## Summary

YouTube has released a new Shorts algorithm update that uses AI (Gemini) to analyze content before pushing it out. Creators must adapt by ensuring their content is original, visually aligned with titles, and optimized for thumbnails and audience targeting.

### Key Points

- **New AI-driven algorithm** [0:00] — YouTube now uses Gemini, a multimodal AI, to watch content before upload, checking for alignment between visuals, text, and title/description.
- **First 3-5 seconds critical** [1:04] — The AI checks if the video shows what it promises within the first 3-5 seconds.
- **Originality required** [1:23] — Content must not be a carbon copy of existing videos; it must provide new information to avoid being flagged as low quality.
- **No reposting or slight modifications** [2:02] — Simply reposting or slightly altering others' content will not work; creators must offer unique value.
- **Promote channel externally** [3:54] — Relying solely on YouTube is insufficient; creators should use strategic external promotion, like directing to specific playlists.
- **Disable auto-dubbing for low-performing languages** [6:53] — YouTube's auto-dubbing can hurt views if certain languages have low watch time; creators should unpublish those audio tracks.
- **Thumbnails now crucial for Shorts** [8:54] — With Shorts appearing in search results, thumbnails have become a key factor for clicks; bright colors and clear text help.

### Conclusion

To succeed with YouTube's new algorithm, creators must ensure originality, optimize early seconds, strategically promote externally, disable harmful auto-dubbing, and invest in eye-catching thumbnails.

## Transcript

YouTube just released a brand new shorts
algorithm that completely changes
everything because now they're using AI
in order to actually monitor your
content to determine whether or not they
should push it out. They change the
[music] settings that you need to make
sure are turned on and so much more. And
if you simply adapt to the changes that
I share with you in this video, it's
easier than ever before for you to be
able to get subscribers on YouTube. In
fact, I just helped this creator, this
creator, and this creator get over
100,000 subscribers on YouTube by simply
implementing what I'm going to share
with you. Change number one that YouTube
has now implemented is now they're using
Gemini to actually watch your content
before they ever upload it. And
essentially the way that this works is
that Gemini is a multimodal model. If
you don't know what Gemini is, it's
basically YouTube's version of ChatGPT
or Google's version of ChatGPT. And
Google owns YouTube. So now what they're
doing is they're running your content
through that before your content ever
gets posted. And what they're looking
for is alignment on three things. First
and foremost, they want to make sure
that whatever you're creating content
about, you are actually showing in the
video. For example, if I was making
content about an iPhone, I'd want to
make sure that I actually show an
iPhone. And you need to make sure that
you're doing this in the beginning of
your content. In fact, the first three
to five seconds is really where they're
looking for whether or not you're
showing whatever you're actually
telling. In addition to that, they want
to make sure that the text that you have
on the screen, which yes, their AI model
can also see, matches the text that
they're going to find in the title of
your video, in the description of your
video, in the subtitles of your video,
and in the tags of your video. And then
the other thing that they're looking for
is they want to make sure that your
content isn't just a carbon copy of
somebody else's content because if
you're not providing people information
on a topic, well, guess what? Your
content isn't going to get pushed out.
What I'm saying is that you need to make
sure that you can still create content
about topics that are popular in your
niche or topics that are outliers or
that are trending in your niche. But you
need to make sure that whatever you're
actually saying about that topic is
going to be something that's new because
otherwise YouTube's going to say, "Hey,
we have 100,000 people interested in
this, but they've already seen this
information. So if they get shown this
information again, they're going to get
bored, they're not going to watch us,
and then they'll just stop pushing out
your content." This brings me to change
number two, which is kind of
piggybacking on that point. And that is
that you can't just upload content that
already exists on YouTube now. So you
can't repost content, you can't take
somebody else's content, and you can't
just take somebody's content and change
the script a little bit. You need to
make sure that you're actually giving
YouTube new information. And I actually
have a really easy way for you to be
able to do this by leveraging AI. Check
this out. So, let's say for argument's
sake that I wanted to recreate this
video right here about the five best
online business ideas for 2026. What I
would do is I would come over to ChatGPT
right here, or you could use Claude or
any other AI that you want, and you
could say, "I want to create a YouTube
video on this topic." And then you're
going to put in the title right here,
and we're going to say, "But I want to
include completely different
information." And then what you're going
to do is you're going to get the
transcript of this video. You're going
to put this in here and say, "I want you
to give me different information than
other people have thought of." Or what
you could do is just say, "I want you to
give me five things that aren't popular,
but would appeal to a very large
audience." Now, what this is going to do
is this is going to give you other
things that aren't going to be things
that are really popular. For example, AI
inbox manager, it literally goes through
everything that you could do here.
Personal AI setup, goes through
everything that you could do here. And
basically, you want to use AI in order
to be able to uncover things that other
people haven't spoken about on YouTube.
Because if you're just copying what
other people have already spoken about
on YouTube, it's going to increase the
odds that YouTube actually flags your
content and says, "Hey, this isn't
original content. We're not going to
push this out because we already have
two creators, three creators, 10
creators that have said the same exact
thing." That's what you're trying to
prevent, especially as YouTube rolls out
more and more of their AI systems that
are going to be detecting these things
and are going to be blocking content
that is low quality.
Change number three is you need to make
sure that you're not only relying on
YouTube to push out your content because
there's so many other ways for you to
actually push out your YouTube channel.
And guess what? None of these really
require doing that which work. But I do
want to warn you, there's a right way to
do this, and there is a wrong way to do
this. So I want to show you the wrong
way, I want to show you the right way,
and then I want to show you how I'd
actually do this.
Okay, so the wrong way for you to
promote your YouTube channel is doing
what Dr. Jones is doing right here. We
could see it has youtube.drjonesdc.
This is at the end of his description.
This isn't really helping. The other way
that would be the wrong way to promote
your YouTube channel is if you put a
link to a YouTube video in your bio, or
if you just put your YouTube channel in
your bio. Instead, you want to do what
this creator does right here. If we come
over into their content, for example,
this video right here, we could see in
their description they have this right
here. "Start at the start here playlist
on my YouTube channel, or go to the 100%
free course." And then we could see
right here, "Search baddie and business
torrent." So actually, if we grab this
right here, and we come over to YouTube
and we do a search for this, here's the
experience that we're going to have.
When we do this, we're going to see a
bunch of their viral videos. We could
see that they recently dropped this
video. We could click on their channel.
We could come over into their playlists,
and we could see that they have all
these playlists about how to get
started, and a ton of people are
actually coming to these. In fact,
playlists on YouTube don't get a lot of
views unless you drive people there. We
could see this right here, 14 people
every single hour are coming over here
and watching this. I know that that
doesn't sound like a lot. But if we
actually click into this playlist right
here, we could see that all of these
videos are going viral. And more
importantly than going viral, I bet that
all of these videos are making this
creator a ton of money because she is
actually directing people to a very
specific place instead of just saying
type in my YouTube channel. Because what
if other people made content under that
or something along the lines of that,
they might not actually go to your
specific channel. And you want to make
sure that they're searching for it, not
just going in and trying to find your
channel because they might not be able
to find it. Now, if you want to make
doing this as easy as humanly possible,
I would strongly suggest that you use
Metricool because Metricool's going to
allow you to publish your content to
YouTube shorts, Instagram, to Facebook,
to TikTok, to almost every single social
media platform you could think of, all
from one click. On top of that, they're
the only platform I've ever used that
doesn't actually decrease your views
when you schedule out your content. And
if you go to the pinned comment below
right now, you could get 30 days free
access to any of Metricool's premium
plans with code Robert. In addition to
letting you schedule out content and put
content across all these different
platforms, they also make it incredibly
easy for you to be able to figure out
exactly what's trending in your niche,
and you could respond to all your
comments and all your DMs from all these
different platforms from one place, so
you never miss a message that your
audience sends you. So what are you
waiting for? If you want to grow faster
on YouTube while spending less time
creating content, I would strongly
suggest you go to the pinned comment
below and get started with Metricool
today. Again, use code Robert for 30
days free access to any of their premium
plans.
Now, change number four is you need to
make sure that you stop YouTube from
auto dubbing your content into any
languages that are destroying your
views. And I can pretty much guarantee
you that this is probably happening on
your channel, so you need to make sure
that you stop everything right now, see
what I'm about to show you, then look
into this for yourself. Okay, so in
order to actually figure this out, you
want to come over into your analytics.
From here, you want to click on advanced
mode. You're now going to come over into
breakdown right here. You're going to
click on geography, and this is going to
show you who is actually watching your
content the most right here. So if we
come over here, we could see average
view duration 46 seconds. Now, this is
including both long-form content and
shorts, which is why it's showing so
low. But we could see right here that
the United States watches my content for
59 seconds. India watches my content for
30 seconds. The Philippines, 38 seconds.
And if we scroll down a little bit, we
could also see that some other countries
are really poor like Nepal or
Bangladesh. And I'm not saying poor
monetarily, I'm saying poor in terms of
watch time. So if we actually come over
here, what we're going to notice is if
we come over into one of my videos, for
example, this video right here, and we
come over into languages, we could see
right here that we have all of these
different audios that my content is
being published in Arabic, it's being
published in Dutch, it's being published
in French, Hebrew, Hindi, Indonesian. So
what I want to make sure that I do is
actually want to look at those analytics
and see if there are any countries that
are really holding things back. Because
the last thing that you want to do is
have one of these languages turned on.
In fact, you could literally just come
over here and unpublish it or delete it,
and it will stop YouTube from serving
content to those people. Because what
you don't want to happen is for YouTube
to be showing your content to a specific
language, it lower your average view
duration or lower your click-through
rate, and then as a result, YouTube
thinks that your video wasn't good, and
they stop pushing it out. That is the
last thing that you want to happen. So
please make sure that you're going
through, you're fixing these, and you're
adjusting these. Because if you're not,
this could silently be holding your
content back, and I see this happening
to so many people's channels. Change
number five is that thumbnails on
YouTube are quietly becoming the most
important part of you getting views on
YouTube. Because here's the deal. In the
past, the main thing that required you
to get views from a YouTube short was
one, that people watch your video past
the first three seconds, aka they didn't
swipe away, and two, that your average
view duration was high. But now we have
a problem because YouTube shorts are now
getting shown in Google search results,
they're getting shown in Gemini, inside
of ChatGPT, on the homepage, inside of
search. And now guess what? This
introduces a new metric that YouTube
needs to care about because before
somebody ever gets a chance to swipe
away from your video or they ever get a
chance to watch your video all the way
through, they're now going to have to
click on your video, which silently made
YouTube thumbnails more important than
ever before. So I want to show you a few
examples of how you can do this
correctly. Now, the first example of
this that I want to show you is actually
going to be looking up something like
how to upload a YouTube thumbnail. So we
could see right here that all these
videos have done pretty well, but this
one right here has a custom thumbnail.
And look at it, it got 1.4 million
views, which is quite frankly almost
more views than every single other video
here. Reason for that is because they
put text here that says how to change
your YouTube Shorts thumbnail and they
circled it in bright green. That
captures people's attention and it makes
them think, "Hey, I need to click on
this." Now, if we come over here and
type in something like YouTube settings,
we could see something very similar
here. This video right here crushed it.
It's actually my video that got 3.3
million views because I did the same
thing. I pointed with my finger. I have
bright red text. This creator right here
did something similar, but they're just
showing their laptop. And this one right
here has Mr. Beast, which is why it did
well. And this one right here also
pointing their finger, it just wasn't as
bright, so you could see that these
different types of formats that capture
people's attention do lead to people
getting more views. And if we come over
here, we could see the same thing with
squats right here. We have a squat
checklist right here. Captures people's
attention. We have this woman. Looks
like she's not actually squatting
correctly and green check mark, which
captures people's attention. And then
fix your squat mistakes also has this
red. So, you can see that the creators
that are getting the most views are
choosing a very specific frame inside of
their content. They're adding in very
bright colors. And this is all capturing
people's attention to increase the odds
that people click on the video. As a
result, they watch your video and the
YouTube algorithm pushes out your
content more. Now, if you enjoyed this
video and you don't still have your
first 1,000 subscribers on YouTube, I
would strongly suggest you check out
this video right here that walks you
through how you could get 1,000
subscribers on YouTube in 24 hours or
less. That sounds interesting. I'll see
you over there.
