## Summary

Hoovie from Hoovie's Garage impulsively bought a 2010 Bentley Continental Supersports for $30,000 (90% off its original $300,000 price). However, the car immediately exhibited problems including warning lights, suspension sagging, and limp mode. He compares it to his sorted 2006 Bentley Continental Mulliner and takes it to the Car Ninjas for diagnosis.

### Key Points

- **Impulse Buy** [00:33] — Hoovie bought a 2010 Bentley Continental Supersports for $30,000, 90% off its original $300,000 price. It has 620 horsepower and was the first Bentley to exceed 200 mph.
- **Immediate Problems** [00:57] — Upon driving, all warning lights came on, suspension sagged, and the car entered limp mode, making it seem like a terrible idea.
- **Supersports vs. Mulliner Differences** [02:47] — The Supersports has 620 hp vs. 550 hp, sits lower, has more ducting, blacked-out grille, hood vents, carbon ceramic brakes, and a more aggressive interior with carbon fiber trim.
- **Interior Comparison** [04:19] — The Mulliner has classic cross-stitched leather and wood, while the Supersports has Alcantara and carbon fiber. The Mulliner smells better.
- **Engine and Suspension Upgrades** [06:23] — The Supersports has beefed-up internals, different turbos, and a more rear-wheel-biased suspension, allowing the tail to kick out.
- **Driving the Supersports** [10:03] — The car goes into limp mode after warming up, feeling down on power. It has misfires and an exhaust temperature sensor issue.
- **Diagnosis at Car Ninjas** [13:28] — Codes show misfires on one bank and an exhaust temperature sensor. The rear air suspension leaks, with shocks costing $3,400 each.
- **Affordable Parts Found** [17:53] — Hoovie found rebuilt shocks on eBay for $470 and a tune-up kit at Walmart (12 coils and 12 plugs) for $180, much cheaper than dealer parts.

### Conclusion

Despite the Supersports' problems, Hoovie found affordable parts to fix it, including $470 rebuilt shocks and a $180 Walmart tune-up kit. He is giving away his sorted 2006 Bentley to one viewer.

All right. You not working today? Huh? No, just YouTubing.
Nice. >> Good job. Thank you. Welcome to Hoovie's Garage, the dumbest automotive channel in all of YouTube. And I have upgraded Bentleys, I suppose you could say that, but it was more of
an impulse buy of a 2010 Bentley Continental GT Supersports in beautiful crystal blue for only $30,000. This is the first Bentley to go over 200 miles
per hour. 620 horsepower, over $300,000 new, and I bought it for 30 grand. 90% off. An incredible bargain until I drove off and all the lights came on, the
suspension started sagging, and it seemed like a really terrible idea. sorting out and really enjoying this 2006 Bentley Continental Moliner with less horsepower, 550 horsepower compared to 620, and slightly below 200 mile an
Supersports back from Arizona and discovered all of its problems, I couldn't help but think, "Why did I do this to myself? I already had one all sorted out and fixed, and I think these are the best luxury buys on the planet
right now. They're incredible, but the maintenance and repairs can be insane to buy one broken and to sort it out. So, I know this. Why did I do it? Is the Supersport really worth the upgrade? And honestly,
I'm a total idiot. The Supersports purchase rounded out my trifecta of buys Lotus Esprit Turbo V8, which I knew what I was getting into there, quite a Blackwood, which was kind of a surprise having that bad head gasket, but still
it's a Ford, no big deal. This one though, I was so shocked to get for 90% going on with it. And when I got it shipped from Arizona back to Kansas and drove it for the first time, it proved me right. It goes into limp home mode
burst of that 600 plus horsepower. Most of the time it feels like I have half the cylinders. And then when I parked it, even within an hour or so, the rear suspension just completely collapses. So right now it's sitting up. From the
factory, the Super Sports were quite a bit lower than the normal cars, but that is a lot of expensive issues. If it's turbo actuators under the hood, that's engine out. So I'm looking down the barrel of some serious stuff again. And
Super Sports today. In addition to comparing the two to really see the differences. And actually I'm giving this Bentley away to one of you. You can that in a little bit. But let's talk about the differences. Horsepower. 550
horsepower twin turbo W12. 620 horsepower twin turbo. The Super Sports sit lower like I said, and they have a lot more ducting to them. So the grill's all blacked out, but much bigger here as you can see. More room for the inner
coolers. And these vents on the hood. So it's very easy to identify a Super And visually I think it's a major upgrade on the looks. This one has the Mulliner package, so it has the pretty wheels. 20-in wheels, but you can see
steel disc brakes. 20-in wheels on the Super Sports as well, but the brakes massively different. Carbon ceramics that are rumored to cost 40 or 50 thankfully carbon ceramics they hold up really well, last a long time if the car
isn't tracked and these look to be in very good shape. But you can see massive discs that are almost touching the 20-in wheels and a huge caliper on this thing. You can see the Super Sport badging down the side there. And I do love the color,
crystal blue with the blacked out trim. It is just a beautiful spec. I cannot dollars. Well, I can believe it. But looking at it, I can't believe it. In the rear you have these very wide oval exhaust sort of a darker tint to the
tail lights. Sort of the same on the Mulliner, but not quite as aggressive looking. Not as big in the ovals. The tail lights not tinted, but both of them have this active spoiler right here that deploys in front of the trunk. With the
Super Sports it has a bit more of a lip to it, but basically does the same thing. Now, the interiors are dramatically different and this is a really nice car here a little over 80,000 mi on it. Lifelong California
with this cross stitched leather. Beautiful wood and all very classic looking Bentley as far as the knobs and everything like that. Just rich and supple and very classic looking. A leather headliner. Spacious buckets in
the rear and the smell is just Oh, it just it just smells so good. So, when dramatically different. So, Jeremy Clarkson panned these things back in the ocean liner and making it into a speedboat. And you kind of have to agree
Because they were able to drop the weight a few hundred pounds by replacing certain things with carbon fiber like the dashboard here and the center car and never will be. And one of the dumbest options with the Super Sport in
my opinion is they got Bugatti Veyron seats. This one mercifully doesn't have it, but most of them do where it's a two plus zero. So, rear seats are gone. They have a carbon fiber strut brace instead. Mercifully, this one was optioned with
the standard seats and rear seats that are still usable. But, there's thicker bolstering on the side and Alcantara cross stitched here. Still very the Mulliner. And the smell, unfortunately,
It's not bad, but it's not like that car where it's just I step in the thing and it's it's so nice. Alcantara headliner as well. You Sports logo in the door sill and more of that Alcantara in the door panel. But,
they really don't look all that different. I love that when you pop the hood the B pops out kind of happy to see you and that is the hood release to pull up on, but as you can see, a very tightly packed twin turbo V12 under here
and the same case with with this one. There we go. Okay, up-see-daisy. So, you have the Super Sports badging here and it's all blacked out compared to the normal Continental GT where this is just bare metal, twin
turbo here. Nice that the flying B hasn't all chipped off unlike this one where it's lost all of its chrome, but otherwise they look exactly the same. difference between the two engines. They actually beefed up the internals on the
is dramatically different along with the suspension, beefier control arms so you weight and they made these more rear-wheel drive biased. So, they're Sports you can actually kick the tail out. Theoretically, that is when they're
sorted out and this one this one is this one is definitely not, whereas this one drives exactly like it should. And like I said, I am giving this car away to one of you. By entering to win at fanathom.com, you can buy a luxury
edition mug or little supercar keychain. Just the purchase of one little trinket enters you to win what was the fastest four-seat car in the world when it came four-seat car in the world when it came out in 2004, just shy of 200 mph, twin
sorted out. All the pain and misery has been done by me and the previous owner enjoyment out of this thing. I even had the wheels nicely refinished and they are in great shape overall. This thing buffed out so nice. And like many other
do is click the link below at fanathom.com and enter to win. Fanathom veteran-owned and operated and they've done a great job with all my giveaways so far, but this is the biggest one I have ever done, a Bentley Continental
you don't want to wait and put this off. It is going to go home with one of you. just to show how these are supposed to go down the road, and then we're going to take this one up to the car ninjas and see what's wrong. I really don't
know why I keep doing this to myself, other than my pain is your pleasure. So, other than my pain is your pleasure. So, you're my you're my dominatrix. This is good for me, either. The twin-turbo V12 in the Mulsanne
just sounds so cool, so imposing. from a Volkswagen motor, the VR6, which they took two, put them together, and then you have the W12. Volkswagen bought
transformed a company that was on death's door to something amazing again. It's crazy to think that just, you know, 30 years ago, Rolls-Royce and Bentleys the same assembly line. They looked like they were something from the 1970s, even
though it was the '90s and early 2000s. But, obviously, this took Bentley into the modern era, and I think this body has aged so well. It doesn't look like something that is 20 years old at all, and it certainly doesn't drive like it.
550 horsepower twin-turbo V12, like I said, and the power is endless. It just pulls and pulls, almost like electric car fast. That's the great thing about twin-turbo V12s. You have that low-end torque of the big
engine, and then the turbo kicks in at the top end, and it is properly properly fast, even though this isn't the Speed or the Supersports version. So, this is about it is there's so many solutions for fixing it, so many workarounds, cuz
a lot of people have these now. They're much cheaper than they were new, uh to keep them going down the road more affordably. They made like 10,000 a year There's a lot of rebuilders and aftermarket companies supporting these.
that specific stuff, cuz since it's so rare, around 1,000 a year built, uh not the same case. So, I do kind of feel like I've made a huge mistake making the switch. And honestly, going from this car to that one one current condition,
it's going to one of you, so enter to win. It is linked below, fanapage.com.
>> [laughter] >> Jeez. And then there's the Super Sports. the codes on this thing cuz usually I get one good run when I first set off in
this car before it goes in a limp mode. And all the warning lights go on. Just for now, it's warning lights for bad bulbs and the tire pressure monitor system, but the engine feels good when cold. All right, I've
let it warm up enough. Let's see if we get one clean run. No. It just feels it just feels off. I mean, that's plenty fast, obviously. That is really fast,
but this is over 600 horsepower. It's really weird. It's like there's two thing. One where it just pulls the power back, and one where it feels like a whole bank of the engine is completely gone. And right now we're in sort of the
gone. And right now we're in sort of the stage one of problems. Jeez. So, it's obviously capable of so much more So, it's obviously capable of so much more. Acceleration 0 to 60s was in the high 3s back in 2010. The weight
saving's not much cuz this thing was still almost 5,000 lb. It's that 600 plus horsepower, 620, that gives it that oomph, which is unfortunately. But like I said when I was comparing the two, it's not just the
bump in horsepower and some carbon fiber bits to make this thing a Super Sport. suspension. This thing is a lot more performance focused. It doesn't have quite as floaty comfy as a ride. Still really comfy, but obviously this one
feels a lot sharper. And then the brakes, those work those work really good. The Jeez. Yeah, carbon ceramic brakes. Pretty impressive. Hey, did we just get a good pull there?
That That wasn't bad. But, this thing really just kind of works when it wants you go down the road for like a road trip or whatever, the worse it gets. I getting heat soaked and it just starts flaming out there, which is scary cuz it
could be a turbo actuator, engine out. It makes me not think it's a vacuum leak any hissing or any of that kind of stuff for a vacuum leak, which is good news. the last time I brought a Bentley to the car wizard, he rolled up a newspaper and
bought me on the head and said, "No, I'm not touching these when they need engine work." So, I went to the car ninjas. We fixed the last one. It really wasn't that big of a deal. Uh hopefully, it's the same with this one because the big
issues were with the early kind of GTs and the vacuum leaks, 2004, 2005. Then, they made a series of refinements. So, by 2010, it should be pretty solid. I say should. I guess we'll see when we get to the car ninjas. Ninja!
fixed, ready to go. You did sort out the other one. Yes. And then it becomes fixed, so I got another broken one. But, it's it's a Super Sports. So, It looks much nicer, though. It The blue is cooler. I mean, the extra slots
and things and extra 70 horsepower. Well, it's supposed to. It It doesn't half that right now. It's >> How many donkeys do you have now? It's One side is definitely not getting ignition or turbo or fuel. I'm not sure
mode very quickly when you start driving it. it. Because it's all so tight. Yeah. So, turbos are somewhere deep in there, engine out. Vacuum lines, it's engine
this is the place to bring it with your AMG GT. It would be perfect for this, but I I'd rather not spend that money. You want to see what the codes are? Yeah.
She's a little Viagra. She's got a weak spring there. >> [laughter] >> Are these all the modules of this car? Yes. So, green means good and orange means
There is a problem with it. Holy you have six codes on the other one. >> On the second um computer, you have six. Because this 12-cylinder acts like two six-cylinders, so the
side is way more unhappy. Mhm. All right. leak, but no. It's more than that.
other side Anyway, we'll see in a little bit. It keeps Everything's turning orange. This is This is bad. Well, in addition to whatever this computer says, also the air ride in the back within like an
>> It just The front stays up for a long time, but the back almost immediately drops. Which side? Both sides. Oh. Yeah. Yeah. And I think they're special for the Super Sports, the the struts. I
don't think it's the same as the other ones. Is there any conversion kit? What We're not doing that. We're not putting coil overs on this thing. Okay, moment of truth on that module.
module. And It's misfires. Okay. Exhaust temperature sensor. So, then why does it get way, way down on power? Cuz you have misfires.
sometimes? Okay. >> Yes. Yes. So, is that an ignition coil Is it one big bank like on the other V12s of Mercedes where it's all one or is it individual on Well, looks like two, three I mean, we have to see how
the firing order is. They should be individual. Yeah. Okay. And also, I mean, spark plugs, when was the time they were done? Well, that's not engine out. No. It is this stuff off and this stuff off,
>> Yeah. Nothing too crazy. I'm curious though, I didn't notice any drips on the ground. Mhm. But uh it probably has some leaks and then the a smoking gun there. You haven't lifted up yet? No. Mhm.
Okay. Okay, going in. So far good news with the misfires. you? Well.
How many miles on it? It's right at 60 or 69, something like it's been replaced. At least it's a lot more. It looks brand new, yes. Black.
there's an original one. Yes. They didn't do pairs. No. Well, do you blame them? No, probably not. Nice and clean. But yeah, it does look really nice. And this is an Arizona car,
so it is super clean. I like the carbon brakes. Yeah, they're ridiculously huge on the front. Like you can't even see any daylight through the wheels almost. I've
never seen one where the caliper Wow. is so close. But obviously it fits. Uh-huh. But going back since it is all-wheel there's some fun stuff going on, but back here I want to see if we can see
anything obvious with your air ride, but they just look old. So you think the bags are just leaking a little bit? Mhm. Okay. I needed one to not be a total disaster. It really sucked to get this
thing and drive it, have one moment of just incredible power and then just It makes sense that the like plugs or coils are going out when the engine warms up, it it takes it out with it. So um I wonder how much that costs along
If they're they're not going to be Bentley specific at least, the ignition >> No, it's not. No. Yeah. So, this is the part where Johnny's supposed to find Continental Supersports, but they don't have air ride on Continental Supersports
unfortunately. And they don't have W12 engines and all that stuff. So, it's all kind of specific. And unfortunately, here's where I found the shocks. They $3,400 each.
Each. So, we're looking at [music] 7,000 before labor. I think there's some The ignition coils aren't that bad. They're the same for Supersports, same >> Yeah, less than 1,000 bucks for the plugs and coils. But the rear shocks and
they're going to stay leaking for a little bit. But maybe I'll get lucky Googling at home anyway. Overall, not bad. keeping the black one would have made a lot more sense. So, since getting back
from the Ninjas, I did some research on parts and hit the mother lode. First on the shocks. You saw $3,500 each. Well, it turns out they match up with the speed struts. So, the Speed and the Supersports use the same dampeners.
Thank goodness. And that made it a lot easier. So, I found a set of rebuilds on eBay for $470. I hit the buy button instantly because the Arnott versions are like $1,000 each. So, we'll roll the dice on those
comes to the ignition coils, it's the same on the entire first generation of Continental GT. So, it matches up to all of them. And it turns out there is a tune-up kit at Walmart to all places. Yes, Walmart is selling 12 ignition
Yes, Walmart is selling 12 ignition coils and 12 spark plugs for $180. coils and 12 spark plugs for $180. $180. So, on Flying Spares, it's $60 a coil. So, that would be something like $800. This is with the spark plugs for
$800. This is with the spark plugs for $180. So, like less than $15 an ignition It's the same aftermarket coils they're selling on Flying Spares and everywhere else. It all matches up to the same part number. Looks identical. But at Walmart,
a set of 12, 180 bucks. So, of course, we're going to get Walmart ignition coils and spark plugs to try on a car that was once $300,000 because that's how we operate here. Thank you so much for watching.
We are rolling back prices all over the place. Just look for the happy face. place. Just look for the happy face. Always low prices, always Walmart. supposed to like cough So, this is the part where Johnny's supposed to cross
There we go. So, this is the part where Johnny's Tyler. Reference. Cross >> is the part where Johnny's supposed to cross cross-dress like a woman and dance.
dance. >> [laughter] supposed to cross reference to the I can't say it.
