[00:00] What's up everybody? Damian here and in today's gaming and movie news, we have a new God of War Lao Fei screenshot, the next Star Wars movie has the director, and Avengers Endgame does a victory lap at the box office. This is your Daily Fix.
[00:21] Fans are discussing a new God of War Lao Fei screenshot featuring Kratos in a setting resembling ancient Greece. The image was revealed today via the PlayStation blog, alongside details of the game's pre-order bonuses in Digital Deluxe Edition.
[00:33] The screenshot shows Lao-Fei with Kratos as the pair stand in what looks to be a Greek temple. Why is this interesting? Well, because Lao-Fei is supposed to be dead and separated from Kratos, and she never visited Ancient Greece during his time there, which occurred long before they met.
[00:46] So what's going on? Well, while Lao-Fei is very much the star of this new game, fans have already seen Kratos pop up a couple of times. He can be seen burning Lao-Fei's body on a funeral pyre, an event which took place at the start of the 2018 God of War game.
[00:58] Lao-Fei then reawakens in the Everywind, a heavenly place that serves as an afterlife for gods of all mythologies, and it's here that Kratos visits her again in a moment of need, albeit only momentarily. Today's screenshot poses more questions.
[01:11] What version of Kratos is this? Is this Greece? When does it take place? In any case, we won't have to wait all that long for answers. God of War Lao-Fei is less than six months away, due in February next year. Moving on, Disney has reportedly picked Spider-Man director John Watts to helm the first movie
[01:25] in Simon Kinberg's new Star Wars trilogy as it plots out the next chapter in the Skywalker saga. Information about a new series of Star Wars projects from Lucasfilm was first reported by Daniel Rickman and later corroborated by The Hollywood Reporter.
[01:37] Although Watts is best known for leading the charge on the MCU's Tom Holland's Spider-Man trilogy, his work on Star Wars would represent his return to the franchise following his time as co-creator on 2024's Skeleton Crew. The yet-to-be-named new films, which are said to be the next chapter in the Skywalker saga,
[01:52] being written by Star Wars Rebels and Mr and Mrs Smith veteran Kinberg Story details remain mostly shrouded in mystery though it is said that Daisy Ridley Rey I not going to call her Rey Skywalker will play a role in the story Watts has only been picked to direct the first movie of the new trilogy so far
[02:07] When this next chapter will begin is also unclear, with The Hollywood Reporter sources noting that Disney has not given the new project the official green light as work on its foundation continues. Although still early in development, the site stated that it is further along than most
[02:19] other Star Wars projects. The only one ahead of it for now is Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling's Star Wars Starfighter, which has a May 28, 2027 release date. And finally, Endgame Encore dusted off an estimated $86 million at the box office
[02:32] as new scenes helped bring MCU fans back to theaters to prep for Doomsday. It's a gargantuan opening weekend for Disney and Marvel's Infinity Saga ending re-release that saw it rank atop global charts. Of its $86 million debut, it earned $26 million domestically and $60 million internationally.
[02:47] There are a few reasons audiences have shown up in droves to watch the seven-year-old movie. First and foremost, the encore re-release comes with a few minutes of extra footage that ties directly into this December's superhero crossover event film, Avengers Doomsday.
[03:00] With director Joe Russo previously setting up the new clips as critical to the next movie's plot, it seemed inevitable that at least die-hard fans would show up. Avengers Endgame has now soared to an unbelievable 2.885 billion worldwide total.
[03:12] Disney has marked it as the second-highest debut for a re-release ever, falling only behind 2012's Titanic 3D. While Marvel and Disney take a victory lap, Zack Kreger's Resident Evil proved it has some staying power on its second weekend in theaters.
[03:24] It brought in another $23 million domestically and $27 million internationally, with its two-weekend total sitting at $196.5 million on a reported $75 million budget. Despite facing an uphill battle with some fans, the Capcom video game-turned-horror
