# Spider-Man Brand New Day TV Trailers BREAKDOWN - Easter Eggs You Missed!

> Source: [Spider-Man Brand New Day TV Trailers BREAKDOWN - Easter Eggs You Missed!](https://youtube.com/watch?v=64HyspunbvQ)

## Summary

The video breaks down Easter eggs and references from the trailers for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, including new villains like Ramrod, the concept of 'spider puberty,' and the introduction of gray Hulk. It also discusses the DODC's potential role in controlling villains and the return of characters like the Punisher.

### Key Points

- **Ramrod's comic origin and DODC theory** [0:29] — Ramrod is a cyborg villain from the comics, blackmailed by a corrupt attorney. His appearance supports the theory that the DODC is behind the new villains.
- **Spider puberty and mutation** [2:38] — Peter's skin becomes impenetrable, a needle cannot break through. A little girl calls it 'spider puberty,' and Tom Holland used that term when pitching the concept.
- **Hormone chart and mutant gene** [5:35] — The trailer shows a graphic indicating Peter's hormones are 50% human and 50% arachnid, and a gene chart hints at the introduction of the mutant gene with Jean Grey.
- **Organic webs reference** [6:20] — Spider-Man is shown testing organic webs on a rooftop, a direct reference to Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man.
- **Gray Hulk appearance** [7:39] — A social media GIF shows a gray Hulk, indicating a split personality. Gray Hulk can speak fluently and has control, unlike the green Hulk.
- **Punisher's boat and comic reference** [9:17] — The Punisher appears, living on a boat called 'The Golden Girl,' directly from Spider-Man #141. Peter brings MJ there for protection.
- **The Persuader villain** [9:42] — The Persuader, a mind-controlling villain, is introduced. He may be working for the DODC, possibly using Jean Grey's powers.
- **MJ at the graveyard** [11:00] — MJ is shown in a yellow sweater at a graveyard, likely Aunt May's grave. This parallels the Raimi film's cemetery scene.

## Transcript

Marvel and Sony just released a series
of trailers for Spider-Man: Brand New
Day and we're here to break down all of
the Easter eggs, references, and little
things you might have missed in these
trailers for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Welcome back to ScreenCrush. I'm Ryan
Arey and Brand New Day just released an
awesome second trailer, but now they're
also rolling out TV spots with brand new
footage featuring new villains, the
Avengers, and even a gray Hulk. In
previous trailers for the movie, we have
seen Spider-Man fighting a series of
low-level villains like Boomerang and
the Tarantula and also recreating
classic comic book covers. That theme
continues here with this show Spider-Man
fighting Ramrod recreating this cover of
The Amazing Spider-Man 221 where Ramrod
is actually crashing into Empire State
University, which is the school where
Bruce Banner is now teaching. In the
comics, Ramrod was the foreman of an oil
rig and was injured on the job. He
received cybernetic enhancement from a
corrupt attorney called Kerwin
Broderick, essentially turning him into
a cyborg. Ramrod was then blackmailed
with a poison inside of his body that
upon release would kill him, giving him
no choice but to do as he was told by
Broderick. This led to Ramrod facing off
against heroes like Spider-Man before he
was eventually defeated by Daredevil and
Black Widow. Now, a character like
Ramrod who was given cybernetic
enhancements and is being blackmailed
and controlled by a corrupt individual
adds fuel to the fire for the theory
that Coulson had in this video on the
channel discussing how the DODC is
behind all of these new villains
including the Scorpion. But I thought
Damage Control was the good guys. Well,
we think that they are using villains to
cause damage for Damage Control to,
well, control and thus it would justify
the agency's existence. In the show
One-Man, we saw that Control's biggest
opponent wasn't super villains, it was
trying to get government funding. Now,
in this shot where we see Spider-Man
jumping off the top of this building,
which is a slightly different version of
this scene that we already got in the
first trailer, you'll notice that Spidey
is doing a different flip this time.
Instead of a sideways roll, he's doing a
bit of a backflip. Now, if you look
behind him in the skyline, you can see
Avengers Tower, the brand new fully
renovated version that has been under
construction. The construction is now
complete and according to those who saw
the Avengers Doomsday trailer at
CinemaCon, this is what the Avengers
Tower will look like in that film. Now,
the last time we saw Avengers Tower was
here in Daredevil Born Again where we
saw it sporting this new spike-like arch
behind it, which can be seen here in
this shot as well. Here we see Peter in
a classroom full of young kids showing
that even superheroes like Spider-Man
need to get their vaccines and that
shots are nothing to be scared of. I'm
sure though that J. Jonah Jameson would
probably disagree. As the nurse goes to
give him his shot, the needle bends. It
can't break through his skin. Now,
Spider-Man has never been impervious to
getting stabbed.
>> I've been stabbed Oh god. [sighs]
>> So, why is a needle now unable to enter
his skin? Well, according to this little
girl,
>> It's probably spider puberty.
>> Hey, hey, hey, come on. And she's not
wrong. Peter is going through some kind
of mutation where his powers are
advancing. Tom Holland is even quoted as
having used the term spider puberty when
pitching this concept for the film. Now,
our own Colton Ausburn is currently
working on a video that will be hitting
the channel soon where we discuss what
secret villain Holland could be
referring to in this recent interview.
>> The villain that we have in this new
movie, which is still very much a
secret.
>> And without giving it away, we think
that villain could be responsible for
Peter's skin becoming impenetrable. Now,
I
>> Oh no, a tree fell down and blocked the
door to the store. No one can get in.
We're ruined.
>> Uh-huh, check this out.
I just got this mini chainsaw for free
and now I'm going to show you guys how
to get your own free stuff from Temu,
the sponsor of this video. Guys, this is
not a scam, not a hustle, this is just
free stuff. Here's how it works. So,

download the app and make this happen
now. So, just click our link in the
description and save with Temu
instantly. Now, back to what I was
saying. Here in Peter's fight with Mac
Gargan Scorpion, remember Mac Gargan is
this dude that the Vulture hit with a
car in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but here
Gargan blames Spider-Man and wants
revenge.
>> You know, take a picture, slice his
throat, put his head in the dryer.
>> In this fight with Scorpion, they cut it
and they attempted to sync Gargan's
lines to make it seem like he's the one
who's saying, "What's going on with you,
Spider-Man?" But this is clearly Tom
Holland speaking and it's Peter saying
this to himself as he questions what the
hell is going on with his body, similar
to this line from Toby Spidey in
Spider-Man 2.
>> Why is this happening to me?
>> What's going on with you, Spider-Man?
>> Spider-Man: Brand New Day is borrowing
heavily from Raimi's Spider-Man 2 and
hey, that's fine with me because that
is, I think, the greatest comic book
movie ever made after Superman: The
Movie. Peter's physical changes are also
very cool, but just like in Spider-Man
2, they are stemming from or are at
least meant to be a physical
representation of Peter's quarter-life
crisis and the struggles with identity
he's been facing due to trying to
balance being Peter Parker and
Spider-Man. That's a struggle that's
been dialed to 11 in this movie with the
world no longer even knowing who Peter
Parker even is. So, Peter is trying to
figure out why he's mutating. On this
screen, we see a graphic that indicates
Peter's hormones are at 50% human and
50% arachnid. We also saw this gene
chart that will play into the film's
likely introduction of the mutant gene
with Jean Grey. Now, we know Peter goes
to Banner for help and in other trailers
we have seen Spider-Man doing a body
scan that I think we can assume Bruce
Banner is helping with because
Spider-Man is in his full costume,
including the mask. I think we're likely
going to see Peter pulling a Mrs.
Doubtfire and trying to pretend that
he's Spider-Man's friend and not
Spider-Man, just like he does in the
animated series with Curt Connors. Bruce
will likely play along, but I think he's
too smart to not put two and two
together. Peter still appears to have an
AI assistant, which makes sense. I mean,
hey, don't we all?
>> What?
>> The voice reads out the following.
>> Organic webs, heightened senses,
increased agility.
>> And we see Spidey on a rooftop
experimenting with his new organic webs
and as he presses down on his arm, some
web shoots out causing him to gag.
And the scene of Spider-Man being on a
rooftop to test out his new powers is
yet another reference to Toby Spider-Man
who has organic webbing and tested its
swinging capabilities on a rooftop in
the first Spider-Man. We see Spidey save
this kid in the midst of a chase with an
armored vehicle.
>> You okay, kid? Yeah, you're okay.
>> That reminded me of yet another Toby
moment from Spider-Man 2.
>> No playing in the streets.
>> Yes, Mr. Spider-Man. [music]
>> See you.
>> Now, in our breakdown of the second
trailer, we actually missed this small
detail here where Peter is holding
Bruce's broken inhibitor wristband and
you'll see that it reads ASM 14. Amazing
Spider-Man 14 being Spider-Man's first
encounter with the Hulk. So, the Hulk is
unleashed and thunderclaps Spider-Man
and we see the two falling out of this
building. Now, what's going on here has
to be some trailer cutting trickery
because when the Hulk hulks out, they
are in Peter's apartment, we think. But,
this shot of this building they're
falling from is definitely not Peter's
apartment building. In fact, this LEGO
set confirms that it is a Department of
Damage Control building. So, I'm
actually not sure about that either. Our
best guess is that when the Hulk is
released, he goes on a rampage through
Manhattan and this building is just one
of the many that we're going to see him
crash through. Now, in this shot from
the second trailer, Hulk is green, but
in a recently released social media gift
from Sony, those with a keen eye noticed
that the Hulk is not green, he is gray.
Now, with this movie exploring mutations
and genes and the Hulk being gray, this
is all the confirmation we need that
Sadie Sink is playing Shatra. I mean,
this is all the confirmation we need
that Sadie Sink is playing Jean Grey.
No, but look, in all seriousness, we are
likely viewing the gray Hulk here. Rumor
has it that in Age of Ultron, when the
Hulk was released by another mind
manipulator, the initial plans were for
him to be gray. Now, gray Hulk is a
split personality of Bruce Banner.
Unlike the green version of the Hulk,
gray Hulk can speak English fluently and
not like a caveman.
>> Get away! [music]
Run!
>> This Hulk actually has control over
himself. And fun fact for you, when the
Hulk was first introduced, he was also
gray. But, following unforeseen printing
issues, Stan Lee decided to change his
color to green. Now, for a long time,
the Hulk has been locked away. The mind
of the Hulk, I mean. Bruce combined the
brain and the brawn by suppressing the
Hulk's mind and taking his hands
completely off the wheel. But, he's
still happy to use the Hulk's physical
form, aka the power of his immense
strength. Gray Hulk could be a flip of
the script here, though. The mind of the
Hulk could retake the wheel, sending
Banner's consciousness back into exile
like we saw in Ragnarok. Only this time,
the same way Banner maintained the power
of the Hulk while sending his mind into
darkness, the Hulk could maintain the
intelligence of Banner while sending
Banner's mind into the darkness and thus
creating the gray Hulk. So, another MCU
alum joining Spider-Man in this movie is
the Punisher. A recent interview with
Tom Holland features him talking about
his friendship with Jon Bernthal and how
the two of them helped each other with
their respective auditions for their
Marvel roles years ago. And how Holland
has wanted this team-up on screen for a
long time. Here, at Frank's hideout,
where Peter takes MJ to be protected, we
see that Frank is living in a boat
called The Golden Girl. This is taken
directly from Spider-Man 141, where we
see the Punisher living in the same boat
called The Golden Girl. And our hope is
that after Peter leaves MJ with Frank
safe in The Golden Girl, Peter will turn
around and thank Frank for being a
friend.
>> Thank you for being a
>> [music]
>> Now, in that same issue featuring the
Golden Girl issue 141, we also meet the
villain The Persuader. He is yet another
Z-list Spider-Man villain, but he does
have the ability to control minds. So,
it's possible that we could learn that
he is the mysterious villain using Jean
Grey's mind control powers for himself.
A recent TV spot subtitles indicated
that the DODC boss played by Tramell
Tillman is indeed the mutant-hating
activist from the comics, William
Metzger. And we could learn that one of
his underlings at the DODC running the
lab that is harnessing the power of Jean
Grey could be Roland Rayburn, aka The
Persuader. And speaking of persuasion,
maybe I could persuade some of you to
check out our merch store
screenrushmerch.com by showing you some
of these really cool Marvel-inspired
designs that we have created for you on
sale right now, like this Nelson and
Murdock Law and Order parody shirt, I'm
a really good lawyer business card, and
many, many more. Links for these are
below. So, in the comics, Rayburn is a
Wall Street trader and a mutant with the
ability to persuade others to do as he
wishes. Roland is brainwashed into
working for the Kingpin, and he is used
to persuade the Punisher to kill a rival
gang that were a threat to Wilson Fisk.
Spider-Man intervenes, and The Persuader
tells Punisher to kill Spider-Man, but
The Punisher breaks through his control
and instead pulls the trigger on
Rayburn. So, maybe in a movie filled
with the low-level Spider-Man villains
that most people have never heard of, it
would make sense that a villain like The
Persuader could be yet another villain
being used by the DODC. Okay, and here
we have a shot of MJ in a yellow sweater
at a graveyard. Now, the yellow sweater
is reminiscent of MJ's sweater from
Spider-Man: The Animated Series. Now, we
can assume that MJ is with Peter at Aunt
May's grave, but what will be
interesting is to learn whether MJ
remembers Peter at this point. We saw in
Spider-Man: No Way Home that Happy Hogan
remembered May and his relationship with
her, and how he knew her through
Spider-Man, but he did not remember
Peter Parker. So, I would assume that MJ
would remember May as well, maybe just
not why she knew her. And this could be
yet another parallel to the Raimi film.
In Spider-Man, we saw Peter in a
cemetery tell MJ the two of them can
never be together. It would be poetic if
come the end of this film, Peter decides
that he can't remind MJ who he is for
the same reason he opted not to at the
end of No Way Home. He wants to keep her
safe. And in No Way Home, even with MJ
not remembering Peter, he has yet again
put her in danger.
>> Put you in danger. You just have to
trust me.
>> Well guys, that's everything we caught
