[0:00] It's the same cycle every WoW expansion. [0:03] You stare at the character screen and [0:04] scroll through the options. You open up [0:06] a tier list and watch a couple YouTube [0:08] videos, hear about what's broken or [0:10] safe, and you make a choice. Then 3 [0:11] weeks later, you're either bored or [0:13] re-rolling. I'm not kidding when I say [0:15] this. A main choice can either make or [0:18] break an expansion for people who don't [0:20] have much time to play. And picking a [0:22] main should not feel like a gamble. So [0:25] before Midnight launches, let's stop [0:26] chasing the meta for a second, stop [0:28] copying the tier list, and definitely [0:30] stop pretending like we're about to push [0:31] race to world first. Instead, let's [0:34] figure out a class that will perfectly [0:36] fit you. Because if you pick a main that [0:39] fits exactly how you want to play the [0:40] game, not just how you wish to play it, [0:42] you won't burn out and you can have an [0:44] amazing expansion experience. Now, [0:46] here's the real issue. There are over 40 [0:48] different specs to play in World of [0:50] Warcraft. Tons of play styles, multiple [0:52] ro types, different levels of even [0:54] responsibility within each spec. [0:56] Different class fantasies, and most [0:57] people try to pick their main by jumping [0:58] straight into the end and asking one [1:00] question. What is the best? And I think [1:03] when you're playing an MMO RPG, that is [1:05] one of the biggest mistakes you could [1:06] possibly make. Instead of trying to find [1:09] the best spec right away, you need to [1:11] start eliminating these specs that [1:13] simply just don't fit your gameplay [1:15] style or feel at all. It's not about [1:18] finding the strongest class. It's just [1:20] simply about removing the ones that are [1:23] wrong for you. So, instead of going with [1:26] what's meta, we're going to attack this [1:27] in a couple layers. Because once you [1:29] eliminate what doesn't fit for you, [1:31] what's left is not random. It's your [1:34] main character. With the first stop [1:36] being figuring out who you are as a [1:39] player. This is the part of the video [1:41] where you honestly have to be real with [1:43] yourself. Are you competitive? Are you [1:45] chill and laidback? Are you someone that [1:47] doesn't have much time to play? It's so [1:49] important to be who you really are [1:51] rather than something you're not. Do you [1:53] really care about being at the top of [1:54] the meters, whether it be for healing or [1:56] DPS? Do you genuinely find a massive [1:59] satisfaction from parsing well, [2:01] optimizing cooldowns, and squeezing out [2:04] that 1% to get better? Or are you the [2:06] type of player who just wants to log in, [2:08] run some keys with your guild or [2:10] friends, and enjoy the experience [2:11] without it turning into a second job? [2:13] Another good question is, are you a [2:16] leader? Are you more comfortable in a [2:18] support role? There are some players [2:20] that naturally want to control [2:22] situations. They want to set the pace. [2:24] They want to pull the packs, make the [2:26] call outs, and organize everything. And [2:28] then there are some other players who [2:29] are perfectly happy enabling the group [2:31] to keeping everyone alive. They set [2:33] things up for other people. They support [2:35] from the background. Again, neither is [2:37] better. But if you pick a class that [2:39] forces you into a leadership position [2:41] where you hate pressure, you're going to [2:43] feel that friction pretty much every [2:44] step of the way whenever you're playing [2:45] World of Warcraft. Then there's that [2:47] question of do you like pressure or do [2:49] you like comfort? I'll tell you one [2:51] thing. After a long ass day of work, I'm [2:55] trying to wind down with World of [2:57] Warcraft. Sure, I love my high-end [2:59] content. Every once in a while, I'll do [3:01] my heroic raiding. I'll do my mythic [3:03] plus high-end keys and I'll be good to [3:04] go. But most days I just want to do some [3:07] solo content like Delves and Prey and [3:09] casually queue up some dungeons and [3:11] there's nothing wrong with that and [3:13] that's coming from a content creator. [3:15] Other players love high stakes moments. [3:17] They love being the difference between a [3:19] wipe and a clear and slightly beating [3:21] that mythic plus timer. And then there [3:23] are other players like myself that want [3:25] something a little bit more stable and [3:26] predictable where one small mistake [3:28] doesn't feel like I wasted an hour of my [3:30] life because I only have a limited time [3:32] to play. It's important to know, of [3:35] course, these aren't gameplay questions. [3:36] They're simple personal identity check [3:39] questions because if you pick a class or [3:41] spec that goes against your personality [3:43] or identity, believe it or not, you're [3:46] going to end up probably pissed off. I [3:48] know some players who are very, very [3:50] casual, but they love the idea of [3:52] tanking. To be honest, tanking forces [3:54] you into a role of heavy responsibility [3:57] and heavy knowledge checks in the game, [4:00] and it could be a problem for them. So [4:02] before we talk specs, you need to ask [4:04] yourself these questions. Who are you [4:07] when you log into World of Warcraft? Now [4:11] we need to talk about something even [4:12] more important than figuring out who you [4:14] are personally. We need to talk about [4:16] how you actually like to play the game. [4:18] Not how you wish you played, not how [4:20] your favorite streamer or content [4:22] creator plays. How you actually enjoy [4:25] logging in and spending your time. [4:26] Because this right here changes [4:28] everything. I personally want to be a [4:30] rank one gladiator in arenas and get a [4:33] perfect team together for rated RPGs, [4:35] but as I've gotten older, I realize I [4:37] don't really give a about PvP [4:38] anymore. So, you have to be honest with [4:40] yourself. Do you mostly join pickup [4:42] groups? Do you run with a lot of random [4:44] players? Do you like to play solo? When [4:46] you log in, do you like to do world [4:48] quests, the new prey system, delves, and [4:50] maybe if you have extra free time, [4:51] you'll do a mythic plus key? What if you [4:53] want to push high-end content like title [4:55] range for Mythic Plus or Mythic Raiding? [4:57] As you can see, there's a lot of options [4:58] here. simply coming out of how you [5:00] actually like to play World of Warcraft. [5:02] This is why I think copying tier list do [5:05] not work. And the reason we make them on [5:07] this channel is just give you a starting [5:09] point on picking a class or a spec that [5:11] you might be interested in. Cuz I think [5:14] your environment, your IRL schedule, [5:16] your goals, your group setup, or whether [5:18] you play solo or whatever definitely [5:20] helps determine whether a class should [5:22] feel good or just be miserable for you. [5:24] So before you think about anything else, [5:26] you got to ask yourself, what would be [5:28] my realistically perfect woow week? What [5:31] would something like that look like? [5:33] Because your main needs to fit that [5:36] actual reality. Now, the part we're [5:38] diving into now is typically where most [5:40] people start off. But now it would make [5:42] a lot more sense once you understand [5:44] yourself, your lifestyle, and even your [5:46] World of Warcraft playing preferences [5:47] and habits. Now, first and foremost, the [5:50] easiest way to trim the fat with all [5:52] specs in the game, let's talk about roll [5:55] type. You genuinely need to ask [5:57] yourself, do I like the idea of [5:59] potentially healing? Do I like the idea [6:01] of tanking and the pressure that comes [6:02] with it? If you don't seriously like the [6:05] idea of playing a healer or a tank in [6:07] Mythic Plus or raid content, then you [6:09] immediately trim out like half the specs [6:10] in all of World of Warcraft. Personally, [6:12] listen, I love the idea of playing as a [6:14] healer or a tank, but I'm never going to [6:16] pick that as my main character. I don't [6:18] want the stress and pressure it takes [6:20] every time to log in to be a healer or a [6:22] tank. That's why I want to play [6:24] sometimes casually, just play my DPS and [6:26] go about my day. You have to know [6:28] picking a role is honestly about [6:29] ownership. If you're playing a tank, you [6:32] control the majority of what's going on [6:34] in your mythic plus. And typically, [6:36] you're one of the first people blamed [6:37] for pretty much everything. But with [6:39] that being said, you also have the most [6:40] agency and you can determine how you [6:42] want to play. You get instant cues. [6:44] You're in very high demand. are always [6:46] needed 24/7. Now, if you like having [6:48] that leadership option, but don't always [6:50] want that pressure every single night, [6:52] maybe you pick a class that can tank, [6:54] but also has another option, whether it [6:56] be DPS or healing. And speaking of [6:58] healing, this role type is all about [7:00] being reactive to the dangers of what's [7:02] going on. This role type is built on [7:05] stress, and it's definitely the role [7:07] type that gets the least amount of glory [7:09] out of all of them. But you have to [7:11] know, it is the most powerful. It [7:14] doesn't matter how amazing your tank is. [7:16] If your healer sucks, your group party [7:19] members are going to die. You feel the [7:21] impact of every decision you make as a [7:24] healer, and it could definitely be [7:26] satisfying. But then again, you got to [7:28] think long term. If all you do is either [7:30] purely tank or heal, it can be the first [7:32] ticket train to burning out in World of [7:34] Warcraft and not wanting to play that [7:36] character anymore. That's why personally [7:37] I like to have healing and tanking as an [7:39] alternate character option and do what I [7:42] like to do most, which is stressfree, [7:44] and that's DPS. DPS has the lowest [7:47] leadership pressure in the game. You [7:49] literally focus on performance. You [7:51] optimize, you compete for damage, and [7:53] it's the most popular role in the game [7:55] for a reason. Now, I will say if you [7:56] don't want that flexibility of [7:58] potentially being able to play as a [7:59] healer or a tank whenever you want, I [8:02] would recommend playing a pure DPS [8:05] class. For example, classes like mage, [8:07] warlock, hunter, rogue. Within these, [8:10] you have three different DPS spec [8:12] options that you can change through [8:14] constantly, which give you a wide [8:15] variety of gameplay. If you know you're [8:17] somebody who likes to reroll constantly [8:19] and you want to get different gameplay [8:20] feels every couple of weeks, then pick [8:22] something stable and flexible that can [8:24] fit your gameplay style. The biggest [8:27] mistake I see people make when they're [8:28] picking a main is that they pick a spec [8:32] rather than a class as a whole. God [8:35] forbid you get bored of that spec or [8:37] that spec gets nerfed and you will be in [8:39] a lot of trouble out of nowhere. Now, a [8:41] minor point, believe it or not, you can [8:43] actually pick a class based on how easy [8:45] or hard it is to play. Some people like [8:48] complicated rotations and mastering [8:50] them. Some people like simple three to [8:52] four button rotations. There's no right [8:54] answer here, but if you pick a spec that [8:56] fights your natural want and I guess [8:58] sort of gameplay rhythm and style, you [9:01] could probably feel pretty drained every [9:03] session. Whether it be because it's too [9:04] easy or it's too hard. Personally, I [9:08] love the idea of playing a retribution [9:10] paladin. I really do. But from a [9:11] gameplay perspective, it's a little bit [9:13] too straightforward for me and I find [9:15] myself getting bored very quickly. I [9:17] love the complicated nature of playing [9:19] Arcane Mage. I played it all throughout [9:20] season 3 of The War Within. But maybe I [9:23] don't want to have a headache every [9:24] single time I log in and play. So, I try [9:26] to find that good middle ground for me. [9:28] And these are questions you need to ask [9:30] yourself. And next up, we have one of [9:32] the most slept on decisions you'll [9:33] probably make. And believe it or not, [9:35] it's based off of class fantasy. Now, [9:38] I'll be upfront and honest. This may not [9:40] be a big decision for most people, but [9:42] for personally me, this is a humongous [9:45] part of picking a class for a season in [9:48] World of Warcraft. For me, my main [9:50] character is my identity for the next 6 [9:52] months. It's the character I see every [9:54] single time I log in. the spell effects [9:55] filling my screen for solo content like [9:57] Dells or the character you try to down [9:59] these epic raid bosses with with your [10:00] guild on. It's the armor and tier sets [10:03] I'm grinding for weeks on end to try to [10:05] collect. It's the sound my abilities and [10:07] characters make over and over again. To [10:09] me, class fantasy as a decision that [10:12] truly matters. Midnight as an expansion [10:14] has a much darker and heavier tone in [10:17] terms of class fantasy and lore and [10:19] theme and is substantially more [10:20] atmospheric than things like, you know, [10:22] Dragonflight and the War Within. You got [10:24] dark void energy, ancient powers, [10:26] Everong woods, we're going back to [10:28] zalot, the world potentially being [10:30] succumbed to an entirety of darkness. If [10:32] your class does not fit that class [10:34] fantasy for you in your head, it could [10:36] definitely throw you off. So, the [10:38] question is, does your Vulpira monk [10:40] really fit that vibe for you this [10:42] expansion, or are you looking for [10:43] something different? For example, during [10:46] season 2 of the War Within the Undermine [10:48] patch, I was playing a blood elf rogue [10:50] at the time. I really liked my blood elf [10:52] at the time, but I didn't think the [10:54] class fantasy or my transmog and [10:56] character feel fit into that undermine [10:58] seasonal patch. So, believe it or not, I [11:01] race changed him to an engineer Vulpira [11:03] rogue that was a master at racing down [11:05] in the undermine, and it completely [11:07] changed the entire way I played that [11:09] patch. My point is is that when the hype [11:11] settles down after an expansion launches [11:14] and you're logging in after work or late [11:16] at night, you're not staying around [11:17] because you're 1% better than the DPS [11:20] next to you. You're staying because you [11:22] have a real attachment to the game and [11:25] your character because the animations [11:26] feel good. Because it feels good when [11:28] you hear the sound design, the transmog [11:30] looks good, and the character feels like [11:32] one you can head into Midnight with and [11:34] save the world. You see yourself teaming [11:37] up with characters like Er, Anduin, [11:39] Zoljara. If you do not vibe with how [11:42] your character feels from a thematic [11:43] standpoint, to me, it's a problem for me [11:46] mentally down the line. So, I think when [11:48] you tie something like that together [11:49] with, you know, the play style that fits [11:51] your schedule, a role type that fits [11:53] your personality and then, you know, the [11:55] philosophies that help you pick a class, [11:57] whether they're safe or the best or easy [11:59] or whatever, I think that's when you [12:01] know you found your main. So, before you [12:03] click the create character or lock in [12:05] your main for midnight, here's the [12:07] priority order I want you to think [12:09] about. Number one is identity. Who are [12:12] you as a player? Are you competitive? [12:14] Are you chill? Are you a leader? Are you [12:16] a support? Do you prefer pressure? Do [12:18] you like comfortability and chilling [12:20] out? If your class fights your [12:21] personality, you're going to feel it [12:23] every single session. Number two is [12:25] lifestyle. How do you actually play [12:28] World of Warcraft? Do you like to join [12:30] mostly pugs? Do you only play solo for [12:33] Delves and Prey? Do you like to push [12:35] high-end content? Do you like to do [12:36] casual content? Your main has to fit [12:39] your realistic schedule and environment, [12:42] not some fantasy version of yourself [12:44] that's not realistic. Number three, [12:46] responsibility and flexibility. Do you [12:49] want ownership and control? Do you want [12:51] low pressure? Do you need ro flexibility [12:53] in case you, you know, want to try out [12:55] tanking or healing? Pick a class, not [12:59] just a spec that gives you room to [13:01] breathe across an entire expansion. And [13:03] finally, number four, fantasy. Does your [13:06] character actually excite you? Do the [13:08] visuals, the hero talents, the armor, [13:10] and the overall vibe fit Midnight in [13:13] your head? Because when the hype fades, [13:16] I think attachment and fantasy is what [13:18] could keep you logged in. I think if you [13:20] follow that order, I think you guys will [13:22] be just fine. You'll land on the right [13:23] one. I hope you all got some benefit out [13:25] of this video. If you did and you found [13:27] it at least a little bit useful, leave a [13:29] comment below this video saying midnight [13:31] hype and then follow it with the class [13:33] you were supposed to be maning heading [13:35] to the new expansion. I love you guys. [13:37] God bless every single one of you. By [13:38] the way, if you're interested, check out [13:39] the new merch, man. We just released it [13:40] last night on stream.
