## Transcript

I'm John, this is Many a True Nerd, and welcome to a Star Wars Zero Company, which is basically XCOM, but Star Wars, and oh, that sounds bloody good. But
right before we jump in, yes, this game isn't out yet. I've got my hands on it too very early indeed. So early in fact, it came with a couple of conditions, one of which is I'm not allowed to show you more than a certain amount of the game
in terms of literally the number of minutes I can put up on screen. That's a result of that, what you're seeing right now is not Star Wars Zero Company start screen. No, it's a screenshot of the start screen. That doesn't count, okay?
This is not part of my allotted time. Do not send people around to break my legs, oh Lucasfilm. Oh, and just for fun, as we move on to a second screenshot, this still doesn't flipping count. Yes, I've decided to you know, dip my toe in the
water today in a rather brutal fashion. So yes, hard difficulty, no manual saving, permadeath on, let's do this properly, damn it. So okay, you're
given you know, the start of the game is tutorials. Things like, "Hey, have you considered placing your soldiers behind cover? That might be a good idea." This customize hawks any way you want. So I decided yes, he should have a stupid
mustache and also be wearing a dustbin lid on [music] his head. And yes, the way this game basically works is, as you may see up in the top left there, we're dealing with a cycle. Basically days or turns or whatnot. In each cycle, there's
only so much you can do. You've only got so many operatives, so much money, etc., etc. For the most part though, well yeah, you're going to be moseying here to your holo-table. In here, the day's basically divided into two. Operations,
which are very small scale bits and pieces, and then a proper missions, where you actually go down on the ground and shoot some people, etc., etc. But yeah, operations are basically just a way of a gathering resources. The issue
being you need to spend intel to start them. And yes, you've only got so much bloody intel that you gather on actual missions. Though you may want to keep an eye on a yes, what sector a mission takes place in up in the top right here
given investing in particular sectors could get you good rewards. So yes, one of my own friends wants me to do a right here in zone Auric. So grabbing some separatist weapons strikes me as a very good idea. Carry on, my friend.
level operatives to do this because yeah, this is an excellent way of getting them some experience before they hit the field properly. So there we go. They've taken care of that and we found a supply cache. But more importantly,
doing that mission inside that sector has just got me a new reward. So okay, that's actually pretty bloody significant. Plus one roster means I can have an extra soldier on board. So here we go. Let's recruit Hector Quail, a big
into the front line and makes things explode. Done taking care of it, let's move on to missions given this is the real meat and potatoes of the game. And Here we've got more missions available than we can complete in the available
time. But on this occasion, let's turn our attention to an actual big plot mission. Cuz yes, there's smuggling going on, a weird cult, etc., etc. So let's go down and investigate that. And go on then, a new recruit Hector Quail
can come along with us. As in fact, can Astro make drones. I love Astro make drones. They may be my favorite class of the entire game. They're amazing. Oh, story mission, you get to begin it by like, you know, just wandering through
the area, speaking to people, picking up clues, etc., etc. And I think that's bloody lovely. And I kind of get the feeling I'm being a watched and possibly feeling I'm being a watched and possibly walking into a trap right now.
Yeah, I'm definitely being, you know, witnessed as we just uh mosey through here, though I'm passing by. >> The entrance to the tunnels under that it. >> Copy.
And now know what I need to do. Take out the local enemies uh and drain the canal. So, a mosey forward times and now the fight begins properly. So, just like it's going into turn-based game, I get
to have my turn or my characters have a three action points, then the enemy gets they don't cuz plenty of them should be dead before they even get to move. Like here we go. There's an explosive canister over there. And I did bring
Satan, who's very good at exploding canisters. Go on then, Satan. How about you just to make that happen? Oh, yeah. That'll flipping do. So, yes, that's this guy nice and on fire. Lovely. So, as a result, yeah, you're
going to be going down in no time. But let's get over to BR Warner here. My favorite character of the game. I love BR Warner. So, astromech droids don't have guns. They don't have weapons at all. Instead, they just use items. They
get to spam items constantly. So, for example, I've got a concussion grenade here. I can toss that out of all Warner AP. And get the positioning uh just right here. We can hit both of these people
and knock both of them into nearby walls. Ideally, nearby fire. Will that set you on fire? I don't know, but we're just going to pop a grenade up there anyway and see if that does get you on fire. Yes, it does
put you on fire. Right, that's now two people on fire. And also, it's knocked you out of cover. Oh, and by the way, that was just a one of your three actions. And you've got another concussion grenade and also regular
grenades, so okay, send you a tiny bit of further forward a full one AP and then toss in a one conventional grenade right there. Which, yes, will do a load of damage and also potentially destroy even more of
your cover, you stupid losers. Still, there's no reason to push too much further forward because plenty of you guys are here. Hang on. Melee. That first means melee. So, let's just get some of you into good defensive
uh higher positions and set up a nice overwatch to catch them as they come towards me cuz yeah, this person over here has basically got no choice but to come down the stairs, so just points an overwatch at the bottom of the stairs.
So, that's the end of my turn. Now, we let these guys have a go. And straight burning damage because they're still standing in the fire. Which is talking a hilarious. So, right, they start moving
forwards. You might be about to take a shot. Nope, you failed your shot against the robot. We then took some overwatch on you because we hit you while you were moving and that ends your movement, which is a beautiful. And yeah, everyone
is now sort of a clustering together a bit and that works as far as I'm concerned, so yeah. At this point, okay, you guys are probably about to die to fire. Amazing. And Astra batter
kind of noticed that yes, there's two people, in fact, hang on, three people standing nearby to each other and all of them are in cover. And I'm not talking having that. You just pop a grenade over there and
congratulations, they're all now like, you know, dead out of cover, overwatch canceled. I love droids. Droids are the best. And now we flush these guys out of cover. It's going to be much easier for the rest of the team to start taking
them apart. So, I just send a Satan a forward to do the same and also taunt enemies cuz that's his job as a big heavy front liner. This person now has no choice but to go for Satan. But, yes.
Here's where we bring in one of my favorite characters, the Gunslinger. The thing about the Gunslinger is that the Gunslinger does almost no damage. The blaster pistol is useless. However,
if you get a kill with the blaster pistol, you get your AP back and you get to just keep going. So, they're amazing at mopping up the fields. Oh, by the way, every time we shoot the enemy, you gain
advantage, which you spend on stupid and meager abilities like, you know, a meager abilities like, you know, a gigantic cocking rocket strikes. So, just to get out my RPG and that'll do the flipping job. Yes. And on this
occasion, I'm a bit worried that, yes, possibly you can't quite get the kill. No, you couldn't quite get the kill, but that's fine because Droids can also give other people AP. Basically, yes, they can just hand their AP to
someone else. I love Droids. Droids are just the best. I love Droids. Droids are just the best. Right, buddy. Let's try this again. So, right, this time you are dead, meaning I just get to keep firing because
Gunslingers never stop firing. Yes, who else is left? There's you here, right? We can kill you. You're on fire, so there's another action point. Amazing. Oh, and by the way, just in case you were wondering, yes, you can
use concussion grenades to toss people into other people. 10 out of 10, game of the year. And with that done, the Gunslinger can just continue killing Gunslinger can just continue killing people and never cocking stop. So,
we'll need a crit to kill you. We might get lucky or very good at gosh darn it, we didn't get the crit. But that's fine cuz you can just overwatch straight into this person. So, then again, actually, they go to die to fire anyway, so yeah.
Overwatch over here. The moment you move, that's all fine. outnumbered, but yeah, there's just a bunch of really awesome badass abilities that you can crack out during the fight to level the playing field a bit. But
easily. There are reinforcements coming in from that direction. So, yeah, we just need to move someone towards that console. Right, Satan, you take care of console. Right, Satan, you take care of that, please. Lovely.
And also summons in even more reinforcements, so oh, now I'm going to be surrounded on two sides. And I may have made a slight tactical error there. Cuz yes, the one issue with Astrometroids is once they run out of
grenades, yes, they can't really do damage anymore. Though what they can do damage anymore. Though what they can do is, yes, get Satan up and running again so that she can take a shot at the person who's got my captain under
overwatch. And now as a result of that, right, you're free to finish off this person. So, right, situation under control, kind of anyway. So, okay, reinforcements come piling in from one direction.
other. But oh blimey, that's a lot more. But yes, the start of the fight, they're all clustered. So, right. strike. This would have been an amazing time for a rocket strike. Ah, but this
will do. Satan's still got a grenade. Right, just move you the tiniest bit of forward, my friend. Toss that at you. Yep, that hits everyone and also clears out your cover. Spot on. And given those guys have
basically got no one to attack but Satan, let's use my remaining AP to gain a counter against any incoming fire. Everybody else, yeah, just uh hang back here and hide inside a smoke screen that my droids can set up. So, okay, let's
see what's going on over here because as I was hoping before, you're firing at this guy, but he gets to return fire and also therefore does even a more taunting of beautiful. And yeah, you guys are trying
being cuz it's not going to be too much you could do against me in a smoke cloud go, shot number two comes in against Satan though. Oh dear. He's struggling a tiny bit when it comes to yes, the amount of fire he's under.
Satan could be in trouble. Okay, I'm sending the droid over to try and to sending the droid over to try and to back up yes, Satan by one, being a target they might decide to shoot at instead, and two, yeah, putting a bit of
smoke down to protect him. Double down on retaliation. While he's in the smoke, they can't hit me, but yeah, my counter attacks can hit them. So, that works nicely as a combo. And on top of that, I can afford some to attack him and
increase his defense. Screw it. Do that, too. Why not? Okay, so uh hang on hang on, there's I think he tried to move and my guy shot Oh yep, he's just gunning down anyone who goes for him and they can't hit you
this is kind of working out. You guys think Satan doesn't appear to be dead yet? Okay, Satan, I feel like now might be an excellent time for you to just cook it retreat for a second. Okay, Satan might
actually survive this. Especially given with yeah, the guys on the low ground taking care of. Don't worry, Satan, uh reinforcements are coming in. We've got people uh ready to move in on the high ground. Just watch out for that fire I
created earlier. If anything, I'm pretty confident that at this point if I just send to yet Jimmy no knows a forward of bets, which I could easily do by just you know straight up gifting him more AP. Love after Metroid so the best. From
this position we can have finished off hang on. Hang on. You my friend, that's a guaranteed kill. There's my AP back and given there's no one else to take out afterwards we can go over to Yes, they can eventually shot
which is a bit more accurate. And the job is done. Okay, this is pretty bloody good stuff actually. Tragedy as for what secrets are waiting for us down below in the tunnels. We do
certainly run out of time already. So right, back to the start screen. That's screenshot so therefore it doesn't flipping count. So yes, indeed. This here is our first look at Star Wars Zero Company and
honestly it works. Like it's not complicated or anything. It's XCOM but Star Wars but I'd say yeah, leaning a little bit more into the ridiculous silly physics wonky power fantasy with a low level droids just to blast the
enemy's around with concussion grenades. How bloody hell is that fun? So yes, indeed. When this comes out in fall we will definitely be seeing a bit more of this in some way or another. So hopefully you are looking forward to
that. But in the meantime I've been John as been many a true nerd and this has been the delightful Star Wars Zero Company. Company. Thank you very much and goodbye.
on a Saturday night there's large amounts of violence and screaming chaos that's just normal. That's not actually the aliens. Sorry. But on the other hand I have a giant flamethrower robot. Would you not like to potentially let me at
least try that before pulling the funding and power? No? funding and power? No? Okay.
