> Source: [I'm Starting a New Series About Financial & Time Freedom](https://youtube.com/watch?v=ivE8rjTFv_8)

## Summary

In this video, the creator announces a new experimental series called 'Freedom Fridays' focused on financial freedom, time freedom, and creative freedom. He shares his personal origin story, explaining how observing unhappy doctors in med school motivated him to build skills for independent income generation and productivity. The series aims to help viewers live life on their own terms by teaching skills not covered in traditional education.

### Key Points

- **Introducing Freedom Fridays** [00:01] — Launch of a new series sharing books, strategies, ideas, and tools for financial, time, and creative freedom.
- **Two Audiences, Two Content Types** [01:05] — The channel has a broad audience; some want only productivity content, others want financial independence. The series is split to serve both without conflict.
- **Avoiding Negative Feedback** [02:07] — Separating money content prevents backlash from viewers who dislike finance topics, allowing focused discussions for those who want them.
- **Mission: Help 100 People** [03:53] — Goal to help 100 people live life on their own terms, tracked via stories submitted at ali.com/story.
- **Sponsor: Trading 212** [04:44] — Trading 212 offers commission-free investing, a card with 1% cashback, interbank exchange rates, fractional shares, and auto-invest features.
- **Origin Story: Doctors and the Lottery Question** [08:15] — Asked dozens of doctors what they'd do if they won the lottery; 50% would quit immediately, others would go part-time due to money constraints.
- **Goal of £3,000/month** [11:06] — Set a target of £3,000 monthly passive income to afford part-time work and time freedom, inspired by Tim Ferriss's 'The 4-Hour Workweek'.
- **Learning Productivity and Business Skills** [12:41] — Discovered active recall and spaced repetition, freeing up time while studying medicine. Built a business teaching courses, eventually earning £3k/month.
- **Independent Income for Everyone** [14:47] — Argues that everyone should learn to generate income independently, not just become entrepreneurs, to have options and security.
- **Security Means Options** [17:36] — Rethinking security: true security comes from having multiple income streams and skills, not being dependent on a single employer.
- **Three Ways to Financial Freedom** [20:15] — Save, invest, and earn more. Most only focus on saving, but earning more (via skills) is the most powerful path.
- **Recommendations and Call to Action** [22:30] — Recommends Alex Hormozi, Dan Martell, and similar creators. Encourages viewers to share their stories at ali.com/story.

### Conclusion

The video establishes Freedom Fridays as a dedicated series for financial independence skills, with the creator's own journey as inspiration. The mission is to help 100 people gain true freedom by learning to earn, save, and invest effectively.

## Transcript

channel. So this is the first episode of an experimental new series that we are calling freedom Fridays. And the whole point of the series is to share the books, strategies, ideas, tools and stuff that can help you on your journey
towards financial freedom, time freedom, creative freedom so that you can live life on your own terms. In this episode, I would like to share the rationale want to share my own sort of like origin story as it relates to financial
And really the whole point of the series is that we want to teach the skills that care about living life on your own terms. The school system, the education system generally trains us for dependency on a single employer. It
risky. It also teaches us very little about how to actually master your own core skill sets of like personal productivity and financial independence. These are like the two core skill sets uh for actually living life on your own
terms. At least in my opinion. Now the reason for starting the series um and doing it as an independent series is because I realize that this channel uh has a broad audience. Thank you everyone for being the broad audience of
the channel. Uh but like broadly people have different goals when they come to this channel. Some people are only here for the productivity stuff. Maybe you don't care about trying to make more money. You don't care about side
independent income generation. and all you care about as it relates to the management, focus, attention, energy, stuff. That stuff is not going anywhere. I still love making content about that
stuff. I'm writing a second book about that stuff. And then there is another sort of like maybe 50% 60% of the audience that does care about making freedom, financial independence, financial security, having the time
spend your time, having the creative freedom to work on stuff that actually energizes you. These are the people who really care about independent income generate income outside of your main job? How do you build multiple streams
potentially becomes optional? And this is the content around how to make money, how to start a YouTube channel to sort of be a creator entrepreneur or whatever. That is the sort of stuff that we are going to be focusing on in the
be honest with you guys, like a big part of why we're putting this in a separate series is because I feel bad when I make videos about money. And there are people don't get to me, but there are always people in the comments being like, "Fuck
this guy. I can't believe you're making a video about how to make money. Stick to productivity. I'm I'm here for the study tips." And I'm like, "Bro, last exam I did was back in 20 2018. I graduated med school in 2018 and haven't
really prepared for any exams since then. Like study tips is not really my it. People have a lovehate relationship with how to make money. Some people and DMs and stuff from people all the
made about starting a YouTube channel changed my life. Or like that video has now helped me go part-time in my job. Like that. Some people freaking love the content about how to make money. Some people absolutely hate the
content about how to make money and have a freaking heart attack and a stroke and they see a video in their YouTube recommendations, which is someone a big part of why we're splitting this out into an obvious series that like
be about how to make money and get financial independence. If you love that That's the whole point of this series. If you don't care about that stuff, just don't watch it. Ideally, don't even comment on it. If it's going to come up,
whatever. That's a big part being honest about like why I wanted to separate these out into two different series cuz like you know over the last few years with some sprinkling of like how to make money type content and the how to make
people being like oh my god this has changed my life but also comments from doing why are you talking about money all right so that's the sort of copium but there is a broader better reason for doing this as a series which is that
I've really realized that um my kind of mission in life uh at least for now, for really want to help people live life on their own terms. I've been doing a lot of soulsearching around what's my why and like why do I continue making
money and I don't need to and blah blah blah blah blah. And a big part of it comes down to my life has been completely and utterly transformed by productivity and building the skills for financial independence. It's completely
unrecognizable how it would have been if I was still working as a doctor. And that's completely changed my life. And I love teaching and I love sharing stuff love the idea of helping other people learn the skills to help help you on
freedom you want. Time freedom, financial freedom, creative freedom, I just freaking love that stuff. That's what I would do anyway. Even if I won the lottery, that is if I were giving a TED talk, it would be about how to live
decided to put a number on it. Our mission is as a team to help 100 people we can help more people than that, but we're going to start we're going to principles I often swear by is that when you're doing something, start small,
the bar over time. Now, how are we going to measure helping people live life on created a page on my website. Um, there will be a link down below where you can share your story. So, if you're watching this and you are someone who's uh who we
own terms, either through our content or our courses or our community or like the book or like my Instagram reels or like anything. So, if you go on that link, um love to hear your story. We have like a little internal dashboard where we're
tracking um our progress towards helping 100 people live life on their own terms and each time we see a story pings into our Slack channel and stuff. Uh please don't spam it. Please don't. But but and that's really the goal. That is the
that's the mission of me and my team to help you live life on your own terms. generating quite a lot of money and you're going to need a way to invest that money, which is where Trading 212 comes in, who are very kindly sponsoring
this video. Trading 212 is a wonderful commission-free investing platform. and my wife have both been using Trading 212 since way before they started a bunch of features that makes investing and growing your wealth straightforward.

investing journey like that. So, if you would like to get started, head over to And there will be a link in the video description as well if you want to check sign up to trading using my link, you will get a free fractional share worth
up to £100, which is basically free money. And you can also check out the 212 for sponsoring this aspect of the video. And let's get back to it. The third or fourth or I've lost count reason to do this as a new series is
because I want to experiment with the format. So, my current vision for this series for Freedom Fridays is that each video will have a clear like topic where teaching something or sharing a skill or a framework or a book or an idea or a
I also want to do like a little Q&A segment where if maybe like I answer previous episode. So, actually, if you would like to ask me a question about anything at all, um, please do stick a comment underneath this video. I just
take questions from the audience and then in each episode sort of answer the of each episode having maybe like a book of the week or a quote of the week or like a app of the week or something like that. So, it feels like a weekly show
rather than just um sort of sort of ad hoc YouTube videos. I like the idea of continue liking it forever, but like for now, I'm committing to experiment with Friday series. That is my quarterly quest for the quarter to experiment with
Hopefully more than that. And if you have any other ideas for other segments Freedom Friday's show, series, whatever we call it. Again, if you can leave a it because this is all experimental and we're sort of making this up than
building it as we go along. All right, let's talk about the origin story. but for people who haven't, basically my whole like the reason I started getting this living life on my own terms stuff like this obsession with making money
and all all of this stuff is because basically when I got into med school and hospitals and placements and stuff, quite quite a lot of them in the UK in of miserable, right? They didn't seem like they were having a good time. And
the famous lottery question, which is that if you won the lottery tomorrow, Basically 50% of the doctors I asked this to, and I must have asked it to dozens of doctors throughout my time in medicine, 50% half of them said that
even said, "I'd quit in the middle of the operation, uh, which is kind of of them would quit immediately if they won the lottery, but the other half would go part-time. They enjoyed doing medicine, but they didn't enjoy doing it
like insane hours and no flexibility and stuff. They wanted to go part-time. They well, what's stopping you from working part-time? And the answer would always be about money. And there were a bunch of doctors who I spoke to um who used
of doctors who I spoke to um who used the phrase that they feel trapped or words to that effect. Um they did everything right. They went to a good into medical school, got through medical school, did all the things, ticked all
the boxes, got the CV points, matched into the residency that they wanted to, blah. They did everything right. And then they ended up in the situation where they were super specialized within medicine. They felt like they couldn't
money to pay the mortgage and the kids couldn't change careers because they were so specialized. And this is a amongst doctors when I was in medicine. I've heard it almost every time I do any
give talks at like these events. I host workshops here in Hong Kong. We do like meetups for our YouTuber academy and for our courses. I often hear successful professionals feeling trapped by their own success because they sort of either
have the golden handcuffs of like h I'm in this job. The job pays well. I need don't really enjoy the job. I don't really look forward to Mondays. But like uh you know I was told that this is just how life is. This is just the way the
trap with the lottery thing and I was like these are doctors I I look up to as well and graduated and they seem really nice and they're really good doctors. This is who I want to be. But if I look at my happiness levels 10
doctors, you know, chances are I will either want to quit medicine completely or I'll want to go part-time. I have met in my time all maybe like two people literally like almost no one who has said that they would continue working in
like medicine. whatever. Half the people say they would quit medicine completely. but they would go part-time. So, I was like, "All right, cool. I need to go in medicine is I need to make money outside of medicine. And this is where
my whole goal, I made a video about this recently about how I became a became £3,000 a month. Cuz I was like, "All right, £3,000 a month after taxes and stuff results in, I don't know, like 2K a month additional like disposable
income." And 2K a month disposable income basically doubles my disposable my life. That would mean if I'm making 3K a month, I could go part-time and week and it doesn't matter if my medical training takes a bit longer then because
rush to fully qualify and be a consultant and all of that stuff. So my goal became 3K a month and I decided to try and generate streams of passive there's no such thing as passive income. Basically I tried to generate streams of
income while in medical school so that I could work towards this version of getting rich. I couldn't have dreamed of flying business class. I would not have dreamed of been of staying in like a really nice house. What I dreamed of was
being able to work 3 or 4 days a week to have one day a week to myself if I had a present with the kids, maybe take them to school and stuff on some of the days. to choose how I spend my time some of the time, which is why the goal became
3K a month. And then very quickly, I read a couple of books, uh, including which famously changed my life. And I kind of realized that oh to make this money you need skills and these are skills that I don't yet have. I'd sort
like money-making schemes while in school but I was pretty [ __ ] and like so I basically had to take my education into my own hands. And firstly, I had to personal productivity because it was like, you know, when you're at
the day and you want to do loads of stuff like I wanted to do sports and try dating and stuff and I also wanted to like do well in my studies and all that jazz. I realized that there are only 24 hours in the day and if I try
don't have enough time to try and build income streams on the side. And so that was a big part of what got me into like the world of productivity, trying to get hacker and like trying to figure out how to optimize my calendar. And then I
that changed my life. And then a year like in my second year of med school, we techniques. And that also completely freaking changed my life. And I was like freaking changed my life. And I was like wo like if I had just done the right
been able to study way less and get better grades and free up way more time to be able to build a business and do all this other stuff. So, I sort of became obsessed with how to be productive and I also in somewhat in
building a business that could make me an extra 3K a month and that was my first I guess moderately successful business. I was running courses helping making about 3K a month doing that. Um,
skills. It taught me the skills of personal productivity and also the made. And I realized that these are skills that school never teaches you. how money actually works. It does not teach you what a mortgage is. It does
not teach you how to invest. It maybe you get one class about like the there's just no sense of like, hey, you can actually generate income independently by yourself. All of this stuff is the stuff that I sort of
figured out through reading a bunch of books and at the time there wasn't that Alex Wuzzi wasn't doing content and like there was there was a lot less like business education stuff on YouTube. So I was paying for online courses. Uh I
at coding so I could build like a software thing and I taught myself the and the university holidays. I taught myself the skill of how to make money and I was able to parlay that skill within 2 years of making my 3K a month
business grew and then I sold that business in like 2019 and then my YouTube channel started and sort of it's just been a blossoming sort of like uh flywheel snowball rolling ever since. But really what it comes down to is that
entrepreneur. But I do think everyone should have the skill set to be able to generate some amount of income independently. Even if you have a very secure job and you don't want to start a business because like maybe you think
or entrepreneurship, he's like you might lose all your money. It's like this is another narrative that school and society teaches us that like either you have a secure job or you're a risky entrepreneur who like gambles their
to Mars or any of this sort of stuff. That's just not just not it's just not how it works. Like most business I think like 70% of businesses have like one or two employees if you look at the US stats on this. Like there's loads of
businesses out there that are not the sorts of businesses you would see on sort of businesses that would raise venture capital funding and try and send businesses like that. And one concept I came across in Tim Ferrris's book around
that time is the concept of a lifestyle business. A business where it's not about growth at all costs. It's not about like trying to get super big or optimizing for fun, freedom, flexibility, and fulfillment with enough
too much about money. And that was what I realized I wanted. I wanted a lifestyle business. I did not care about becoming a millionaire. I did not care was a nice business on the side that makes me 3K a month so that I can go
I'm doing something I enjoy on the business thing and not doing something I hate. That was the goal. And so like school and society presents this sort of you can either have security or you can take all this risk and become an
entrepreneur. But actually, you can have a day job like I did on the side in the hours a week, 10 hours a week, maybe even less than that, 1 hour a day, like whatever. You can start to slowly learn the skills of independent income
product, what that even means, how to build a website, what that even means, processor, how to find people to want to buy your stuff. And my whole take on that everyone needs and that school should teach you, but it doesn't because
teach you these skills. The school system was designed. I was doing some then a sort of like industrial revolution happened and then sort of the point of school becomes to educate the population on mass to become employees
the word independent when it comes to how what they want their kids to be. I'd for some reason we teach kids in school and at university that the way you and then your employer pays your salary and then once a year you can maybe
negotiate for a 3% raise or a 5% raise and that is independence. that's independence. I think that sounds like dependence rather than independence. It sounds like basically you have all all of your eggs in one
held by you. It's being held by your employer and so you know maybe you get employer and so you know maybe you get replaced by AI. Maybe there's 2008 happens and there's a recession and sort of your fancy finance job goes kaput. I
especially now that I've had a kid where I'm like, "Okay, I don't think the the the thing to teach the kid is that security means being dependent on a single employer. I personally think security means having options. Security
means knowing that you know how to make money even if you got laid off or even even if you might have the best job ever. It might be super secure, but maybe your boss changes and now it's a super toxic workplace."
generate income so you can say [ __ ] you to the boss, right? A lot of people talk and like doc there's always a demand for doctors and doctors are never going to Medicine is a very secure job if you are really optimizing for security. But the
problem with optimizing for security is generally the more secure the job is the less freedom the job gives you. So for example as a doctor yes you can have a very secure job but that's that doesn't necessarily mean that you have a secure
job where you want to work. I know lots of doctors who would love to work in nice and fancy and because their family lives in London and because their spouse London. So, you know, they would love to work in London, but there are no jobs
specialty training for the training programs that those doctors want to go into because those those those jobs are mega mega mega competitive. And so, yes, you have a job for life as a doctor, but sometimes that means being shipped out
Scotland or being shipped off 4 hours away from your family and having to be didn't manage to place into one of the super competitive specialty training thing might be. We are trained to pursue security and like I get it like you know
if in if if your parents were in financial insecurity then they will then be very keen on security as being the ultimate thing in life, right? like you know I come from an immigrant family. My mom moved to the UK. It's like financial
security was the most important thing. Freedom, freedom to live life on your back in the day for our parents' generation because they were like they were just focused on security. And I think for our generation, for us, if you
watching this video and you vibe with my stuff, maybe you don't just want and also a bit of flexibility. Maybe you want financial security and also a security. Of course, I want financial security. I'm not saying security is
bad. I'm saying that if your only way to get security is the thing that school teaches you, which is that get a job in a very secure profession, you're potentially sacrificing quite a lot of freedom and flexibility for that
to make that choice. But there is actually another way, which is to like I say, learn the skills of independent income generation. Okay. So, basically, that is why we're doing the series. Coming back down to the down to this new
series. Um there's so many skills around independent income generation, financial freedom, financial independence, financial literacy, how investing works, mortgages, but it's sort of like there are basically three ways to get rich or
sort of become financially secure. There's save money, invest money, and earn more money. And what school and society teaches most people is only the first one. Save lots of money. Make sure you are saving. Make sure you're not
Starbucks lattes. Make sure you are saving. And this obsession with saving and budgeting and stuff misses the fact that the richest people, the people who through saving. They got there through earning way more money than they
quite a lot of it and investing the difference. It's earning and investing freedom. Not saving. You cannot save invest your way to financial freedom very slowly over a long period of time.
Um, and that's the sort of, you know, you have a highpaying job, you invest, I don't know, 30% of your paycheck, and then when you are 55, you'll be a stocks. And what no one taught me at university is that the the the best way
to become financially independent is to do the third thing, just earn more just there are certain skills that allow you to earn money. And there are certain independently of what your employer says. If you are a neurosurgeon, for
earns you money. you know how to do neurosurgery and you you have the right neurosurgery and you know how to talk to patients so that a hospital will employ or whatever and then you can make six figures maybe seven figures if you're in
it privately but okay what if you had the skill of neurosurgery and you also had the skill of building uh sort of engineering medical hardware because you in university and you did some internships at like a medical
money is drastically higher than someone who is just a neurosurgeon because you can then spot all the issues that are in neurosurgery and you can like invent new of money you can make and the way you make it is basically dependent entirely
set of skills, you can make a lot of money. If you have the wrong set of And the nice thing about skills is that every everything that is a skill can be learned. And what I would love to do is help you live life on your own terms by
Um, lots of other people on the internet are teaching these skills as well. I watch literally literally every video he puts out. Dan Martell is really good as channels that do really good content around the skills to become financially
free and I've benefited a lot from that content. Most of the books I've read in the last like 10 years are about like business and about the skills of making is the sort of stuff we're going to be talking about in this series. And like I
journey to living life on your own terms, please go to ali.com/story and be awesome. If you have a question or any thoughts on what you'd like to see I'm going to be active personally. It
actually be me reading through all the comments. Um, if I hot comment, by the this point in the video and you've not seen the video I made last year about my financial freedom, you should click that video over there. It's got like 2.5
people have gotten value from it. And that's like a good foundation in what financial freedom actually means and how I would go about like thinking about it if you want financial freedom. So, thank you for watching and hopefully see you
you for watching and hopefully see you in the next episode in the series.
