[00:01] finally arrived. A week early at that, making me wonder, well, if the Doomsday trailer is out now, then what the hell are they announcing at Comic-Con? Hey, Ogburn, and there have been some rumors going around regarding a new Avengers
[00:16] film titled Avengers: Judgement Day, based on a pretty new comic published in 2022. And word on the proverbial street is that the Russos are the ones actively share with you guys what this comic is about, how it could tie into Doomsday
[00:31] and Secret Wars, and what it could mean for the future of the MCU as we go into what I think will be the Mutant Saga. So, this Doomsday trailer featured something I have wanted since I was like 8 years old, and that is the Avengers,
[00:45] the X-Men, and the Fantastic 4 in one movie together fighting none other than the man himself, Dr. Victor Von Doom. Oh, and they're giant sentinels, too. Doomsday and Secret Wars aren't as much of an ending as they are a beginning.
[00:59] Seemingly meaning a beginning of a whole new chapter of Marvel with all of our favorite heroes finally being under the same roof. Except for that Spider-Man guy who is under the same roof, but he's like subleasasing the room. But hey,
[01:12] you know, I have to say this Doomsday trailer, it felt less like an Infinity War or Endgame end of the world. Everything has been leading to this type of movie. And honestly, to me, it had more of an Age of Ultron vibe, a
[01:26] traditional style Avengers movie that wasn't this saga ending event, but more so a next chapter in a bigger story that is yet to be told. And that lines up with what the Russos have had to say about Doomsday and Secret Wars. And this
[01:40] could perfectly be setting up another Avengers film to come after Secret Wars titled Avengers: Judgement Day. So, in the Judgment Day comic, we see the Avengers, the X-Men, and Kevin Feigey's beloved Eternals enter a massive
[01:54] crossover event. After the House of X and Powers of X stories, mutants, they founded the nation of KCOA, and they discovered the ability to resurrect any mutant who dies, effectively making mutant kind immortal. Now, to many, this
[02:08] was viewed as revolutionary, but to the Eternals, it was viewed as a crime against nature. The Eternals, by the way, who were, you know, hypocritically know, really, before we continue, I probably should do like a quick
[02:21] refresher on Eternals and Celestials. So, celestials, they are the oldest and most powerful beings in the Marvel universe. Think of them as cosmic gods. the universe, and they are responsible for creating and shaping life across
[02:36] countless worlds. In the MCU, we have seen them a few times, even before the Eternals movie. The giant being that we saw using the power stone in Guardians of the Galaxy, that was a celestial. And nowhere, the mining colony that we saw
[02:49] in the Guardians movies and in Avengers Infinity War, that is actually the severed head of a dead celestial. Now, in the Eternals movie, we learn their true purpose on Earth. Celestials, they plant the seed of a new celestial inside
[03:02] of a planet. That's how new celestials are created. Now, as intelligent life on that particular planet grows and evolves, it generates enough energy for the celestial inside the planet to be born. That event is called an emergence.
[03:16] The problem though is that when a celestial is born, it destroys the entire planet of which it comes from. Now, the 616 MCU Earth, it was growing a celestial named Tiiamut. But as we saw in the Eternals, they stopped his birth
[03:29] and they saved humanity. They saved planet Earth. And now dude is sticking up out of the ocean. Now the Eternals, they are these incredibly powerful immortal beings that were created by the celestials to carry out this plan for
[03:43] Earth or whichever planet they are on and make sure that the celestial growing within is able to do so. Eternals, they they aren't gods, but they are so advanced and powerful that ancient civilizations often mistook them for
[03:56] gods. Now, each eternal has a unique power set, right? like super strength, flight speed, energy projection, matter manipulation, etc. And for thousands of years, the Eternals on Earth, they'd lived amongst humanity, protecting Earth
[04:09] from these creatures called deviants. >> I first sent the Deviants to exterminate them so intelligent life could grow. >> But what the Eternals didn't know was that they were never truly protecting humanity for humanity's sake. Their true
[04:24] purpose was protecting civilization long enough for enough energy to be created from Earth's population growing and you know advanced civilization and intelligent life growing allowing the celestial hidden inside the planet to
[04:38] mature and grow and eventually be born and destroy the planet. But once the Eternals discovered the truth of what they were there to do the Eternals they turned against their creator Arishim and they prevented this emergence from
[04:51] happening. saving Earth by defying one of the most powerful beings in the universe. And as we'll discuss here in a second, Arsham is pissed and he states at the end of Eternals that he will be back to cast judgment on Earth. So keep
[05:05] that in mind for a little later. So the Eternals, they have like an internal programming and it contains one absolute command, correcting excess deviation. Now normally that means destroying the deviants like I discussed earlier, but
[05:18] the machine which god this is so much to explain. It it's basically this artificial intelligence that tells the Eternals what to do and it's like hidden confused with the celestial growing inside the earth. Anyway, in Judgment
[05:32] Day the comic, we see the machine reach like this new determination of what the Eternals's purpose is on Earth and what they need to do. And this new command is with mutants now being immortal, they
[05:45] have to be stopped. And this new command stems from the reality that mutants are now essentially immortal. So they have now been classified as excess deviation, which means every mutant on Earth has become an enemy of the Eternals. So in
[06:00] the comic, we then see the prime Eternal Druig. He embraces the machine's judgment and he decides to wipe out mutant kind. The Eternals then launch a surprise invasion on KCOA. And their target isn't simply taking over the
[06:13] island. It's genocide. They aim to kill every mutant. The entire mutant resurrection facility is destroyed and some of KCOA's most powerful heroes are killed before they can organize a defense against this surprise attack.
[06:27] Now, the Avengers, they get pulled into it at the lead of Captain America. And what they try to do is negotiate like a peace deal while Iron Man, he is searching for another solution. And then Thor, he is attempting to like keep the
[06:39] conflict from escalating any further. And man, ju just saying that that this story, it really highlights the overall theme of all three of these teams. It shines a light on the Eternals and their eternal struggle to follow their sacred
[06:51] with it. We've got the mutants and the entire theme of the X-Men's stories throughout the decades being one of survival essentially. And then you've got the Avengers who constantly find themselves in these morally gray
[07:04] fighting with one another to determine which path is the right path for them to take. as Earth's mightiest heroes. Okay, so I am doing my best to recap all of this comic without talking for an hour. So basically in Judgment Day, the
[07:18] Avengers, they are currently operating from a base that is the body of a dead celestial from like a previous Avengers run. Now Tony, he proposes an idea. >> That was an idea. >> What if they were able to resurrect this
[07:31] dead celestial and have it order the Eternals to stand down against the mutants? Now, to attempt to make this happen, Tony recruits a very interesting team of characters. We've got the X-Men villain, Mr. Sinister, who I do think is
[07:43] going to have a big role to play in the mutant saga. He is a brilliant but ruthless mutant geneticist, and we actually saw him return in X-Men 97 season 1. The next character Tony recruited was Ajax. She is an Eternal
[07:56] and like a former prime celestial priest who has become disillusioned by the truth of the Eternals creation and their purpose on Earth. Then we have Macari, a speedster eternal. And then there's Fastos, an Eternal, who is a master
[08:08] engineer and technological genius. Now, using the mutant resurrection technology and eternal technology together, they manage to revive this dead celestial. But instead of becoming an ally to their cause, the celestial awakens as an
[08:22] independent cosmic god that cannot be controlled. Go figure. This celestial looks at Earth. It sees the endless violence, the constant war, very similar to what Ultron saw when he came into existence. And this celestial reaches
[08:35] the conclusion that all of Earth must be judged. Very reminiscent of the ending discussed. >> And I will return for judgment. >> So, Earth now has 24 hours.
[08:48] >> You've got 24 hours >> before it will be either spared or completely destroyed. Every single person on Earth experiences a deeply personal vision. We see this celestial confront every individual with their
[09:00] greatest fears, failures, regrets, and moral compromises. It's very reminiscent of the void scene in Thunderbolts. So, some pass this test, but many fail. Steve Rogers is even judged not on his courage, but on whether hope without
[09:14] meaningful change is even enough. The Celestial then questions whether Captain America truly inspires people or merely comforts them while the world remains broken. We see Tony is forced to like confront his lifelong arrogance, his
[09:26] belief that he alone can solve every problem, such as Tony doing something as reckless as resurrecting the very celestial that is now judging him. Now, but another fun one was Mr. Sinister, who receives perhaps the easiest
[09:39] judgment because he is so open about who he is, even if that's a selfish, he is, even if that's a selfish, sinister guy. I know I am. So anyway, everyone is judged and society it begins to crumble and eventually everyone
[09:53] realizes something. The celestial judge isn't interested in hearing arguments. It's already made up its mind. So the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Eternals, they all unite against this common threat, the Celestial Judge. So, in a
[10:07] way, Tony's reckless plan that seemingly put the world at stake, it kind of worked because the very threat that this celestial has brought to Earth is the very thing that has now squashed the Eternals and Mutants feud and brought
[10:21] them together against this bigger foe. And you know, even villains join up and celestial. So, it really is like this unifying moment, but none of it matters because even altogether they are no match for a celestial. So instead of
[10:36] attempt to appeal to the celestial's logic. You see, the celestial, its purpose is judgment. But how can any judgment from a judge be perfect if the judge themsself has never been judged? The celestial is then forced to judge
[10:52] itself and ultimately it fails itself. It determines that no being is capable of delivering absolute moral judgment. The celestial then accepts its own verdict and rather than destroying Earth, it decides to destroy itself.
[11:07] >> So, look, while a title like Judgment Day sounds like a great follow-up to a movie called Avengers Doomsday, if they're adapting more than just the title, this comic really is a story that would fit better in the Mutant Saga. I I
[11:22] like Doomsday and Secret Wars that comes out immediately after Secret Wars. I think this is something that you need a little bit of buildup to in that post Secret Wars phase one, maybe even a
[11:36] little bit of phase 2. The idea of that world having a KCOA, maybe the MCU could even have it like serve as KCOA and Janosha, basically like an MCU mutant of those together. That would be cool. and then having the mutants be put in a
[11:51] situation where the Eternals who have already been introduced in the MCU, have them now coming after mutants and adding fuel to the flame that has already that I think is going to start in Spider-Man brand new day. You could have
[12:06] the Eternals who know that Arishim is coming back to judge Earth. Maybe they have come to a realization that mutants and their very existence will jeopardize the Earth's judgment. And so we could see the Eternals determine that in order
[12:20] to save Earth from a failing grade, which would result in complete destruction, they must now be met with the trolley problem of, well, which do we do? Do we destroy mutant kind to spare Earth? Or do we do the right thing
[12:32] and just risk the entire planet, mutants, humans, everybody dying? That after phase one or maybe even phase two of the mutant saga where mutants are already struggling to fit in. And then you can have the Avengers and the
[12:45] Fantastic 4 caught in the middle of what do we do? They can either work with the Eternals to destroy mutankind and save the planet. Or they can fight the >> we don't trade lives. >> And if saving mutants means risking
[12:58] Earth's destruction at the hand of Arisham, so be it. We'll fight him. probably lose. But >> and we'll do that together, [music] too. >> Now, the Russo brothers, they did Winter Soldier. They did Civil War, Infinity
[13:10] War, Ingame, and now Doomsday, and soon Secret Wars. But that wasn't always going to be the case. Prior to Marvel's big pivot from Kang to Dr. Doom, the Russos were still like officially retired from their Marvel days. But then
[13:22] >> But the cluster that was the Multiverse Saga and the whole debacle out to his old friends and together Feige, Robert Downey Jr., and the Russos and writer Steven Mcily, they put together a story that they felt was very
[13:37] much worth telling. And so Avengers Doomsday was born. And hey, by the way, in general, we have a lot of really fun Marvel inspired parody merch up on the great X-Men collection. But speaking of Doomsday, my favorite shirt that we have

[14:05] been to have the Russos come back for Avengers Secret Wars Downey as well as Dr. Doom. The only thing that I think really changed was the Kang Dynasty pivot to Doomsday, but I I won't rehash that argument here. And with some recent
[14:19] comments and rumors, it would appear that they are very open to staying on even after Secret Wars is done. Now, I've said for a long time that I think the Russo brothers would be a fantastic choice to come in as like shepherds of
[14:32] the MCU, creative executives who oversee the entirety of a saga and have a hand in every film and every show and then they are the ones who come in and direct the big like culmination films at the end of the saga. Maybe even midpoint
[14:45] films as well, like in the vein of a civil war. And no, I am not suggesting that I want to kick Kevin Feige to the curb. In fact, I think Kevin Feige is do a promotion. I think Feige could be next in line for the president of Disney
[14:58] studios, like every Disney movie studio, overseeing not only Marvel Studios, but Lucasfilm and of course Pixar, 20th Century, etc. Kevin Feige, he he's a big really help a franchise like Star Wars get back on track. He's a bigger Star
[15:12] Wars fan than he is a Marvel fan anyway. So, I I think if he does that, then the and pick up that slack. So, I think Judgement Day would be a dope comic to adapt for the mutant saga. It has the potential to be a really good movie that
[15:25] corners of the MCU. I think the Russos would be a great fit and I hope they stick around as like consultants for all the movies and shows leading up to that potential Judgment Day movie to make sure that everything is properly leading
