# Valheim 1.0

> Source: [Valheim 1.0](https://youtube.com/watch?v=eVG8RV5iCcw)

## Summary

The video is a live stream wrap-up of a Valheim 1.0 playthrough, where the streamer reflects on the overall experience, discusses least favorite biomes, and previews upcoming games like Enshrouded. It includes community interactions, game design critiques, and a look at future survival game trends.

### Key Points

- **Overall Run Reflection** [00:15] — The streamer loved the 70-hour Valheim run, with only single-digit hours of frustration, calling it a fantastic experience.
- **Next Big Game: Enshrouded** [00:32] — After a 10-day break, they will start a major Enshrouded run on the 15th, one of their most anticipated games.
- **Least Favorite Biome: Mistlands** [04:04] — Mistlands is the least favorite biome because it hinders exploration with jagged terrain and a vision mechanic that hides resources, making it frustrating.
- **Mist Clearing Mechanics** [06:58] — The devs added wisp fountains that clear mist in 1.0, but they are not feasible to place everywhere; the streamer suggests a larger radius or player-built towers.
- **Enshrouded vs Valheim Design** [08:44] — Enshrouded is more guided and quest-driven, like a single-player MMO, while Valheim emphasizes exploration and figuring things out.
- **Enshrouded Build Plans** [10:14] — The streamer plans a dwarven-style mountain city with a courtyard, stone arch, vault-like rooms, and NPC cells.
- **Fishing Mechanic Critique** [21:42] — Fishing in Valheim is loose and unengaging, but optional; it offers some unique items but isn't necessary for progression.
- **Future of Survival Games** [32:29] — The next big step in survival games is combining sandbox survival with well-defined main stories, as seen in Grounded and The Forest.
- **Crown of Valheim Reward** [34:14] — The final reward is the Crown of Valheim, which grants movement speed and reduces stamina costs, a fitting end to the run.

### Conclusion

The streamer wraps up the Valheim 1.0 run with positive reflections, critiques specific game mechanics, and looks forward to Enshrouded and other upcoming titles, while predicting a trend toward story-driven survival games.

## Transcript

Definitely, definitely working with you.
Did you feel like it was an overall? I did. I love, dude, I love this run overall. It had some frustrating parts, but honestly, like, when you're playing for 70 hours, The amount of time I spent frustrated, the amount of time that I had just a great time is single digit.
So overall, I had a fantastic time this run. It's been an awesome read of the game. What's the next big game we're doing? The next big game we're doing is in Shrouded. We have a 10-day break, and then on the 15th, we're starting our big in Shrouded run.
It's probably one of my most anticipated games right now. Until then, I think I'm going to try to do the Soccer TV LC. I'm gonna probably play some Monsters of Memory, so maybe that's what I have to do, because I got the
doll fear from the devs, so we're gonna give it a try. And, um... We'll probably... we've got some other games coming out that I may look at. I'm not really wanting to start a
big run before Entrapped. I don't want to start, like, a... I don't want to start, like, a Dragon's Dogma DLC. But we might have time for, like, Honey Musha. We might have time for Amnesia?
Like I said, I do want to finish Salker. That's something as well. So we've got stuff to do. We have stuff to do. We got stuff to do. We got stuff to do.
Damn, have you worried about this? Oh, Hellraiser. Maybe. Dragon Balls? I'm not going to try to do Dragon Balls before it's out.
I'm not going to do Fire Emblem before it's out. I think we still have like 20 plus hours of VCOM left. So I have no idea where I'm going to put that in. I don't know how that's going to get back in, but maybe I'll figure that out someday.
Go Jetta! Good morning. I've been a part of this community for at least six or seven months now. I just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
Chat always funny and welcoming. Your mods always knowledgeable, respectful, and act with amazing character. So, thank you to you and everyone involved who helped make this happen. Well, thanks, man.
Jojetta with the 67 months. I really appreciate that. Thank you, Jojetta. Thank you very much. We also have Itheris. Imagine heading home after a long journey and actually being excited to be there.
Can't relate. thanks failed marriage oh there it is thank you buddy I appreciate your tip to the mod team as always dude thank you Ither with six month old twins and not having time
for Valheim 1.0 at the moment among other games I'm glad I was here most of the time thank you for the run absolutely Elder Soul and thank you so much good luck with the twins my dear good luck with the twins
there is a lot um where are we going here This is weird. I feel like we're going to fan bar in here. We try to go through here? I'm going to try. I saw the D.
Oh god, we're about to hit the already. We kind of need to go that way. We've got to get through here.
Oh god, this is a lot. Oh, we're out of water. Is that a... Nope, nope, that's a water mist rose. Nice! Nice!
Alright. What was my least favorite biome? Uh, Mislane. Mislane's my least favorite biome. Now that I've finished it, I can just say that.
Yeah. Mislane's my least favorite biome. Mm-hmm. I honestly kind of like all other biomes. I don't have a second least favorite.
I just didn't like Mislane. And the reason I didn't like Mislands is because I feel like Mislands goes against everything I like in this game. I love exploring in this game. I love feeling like I'm looking at a big open area and I see all these different things I can go see and do.
I like being able to explore without running into walls and falling off cliffs and shit. I feel like Mislands, in a lot of ways, takes away a lot of what makes this game special.
And the biggest thing for me is the vision component. I hate running around Mislands and knowing that I'm probably running literally right next to things that I need. And the worst part is, they don't uncover on the map, and the map uncovers that giant circle.
So, I mean, you could literally just run directly by things you need all the time, never know it. It's just, I hate it. I hate it. I don't, like, I don't... like why why why I don't know it just bugged the hell out of me
it bugged the hell out of me uh we're gonna go right down we can go this way no sorry I'm right side we're gonna go here
I know, big badonkadonk, so here's what's wild, whoa, whoa, okay, I'll say this. We did get times in our Mislans where the mist was clear in big areas, and don't get me wrong, Mislans is beautiful.
I love the rock, I love, like, the greenery on it, the trees look really nice, like, it's beautiful. I still absolutely hate the jagged terrain, though. The terrain seriously looks like an RNG generator gone wrong. It really does.
Like it's just the terrain does not look good in this. It's just like jagged rocks everywhere and like then like a plane and then I don't know. Too many weird crevices to get stuck in.
Like too many... I wish it was larger and flatter. I just don't think we need those. I wish the giant spikes were where the dungeons and stuff were, not just everywhere.
I feel like that would have been a lot more fun, a lot more interesting. Barry O says they should make whiff clamps that you can place. They do, and to be fair,
a credit to the devs, you not only have whiff clamps you can place, but in 1.0, the amount that they clear is like three times larger than it was. So they did put those in,
but it is not feasible at all to think that you're going to place those all over a biome. So, um, like, hey, it would be kind of cool, man, if like, if you put down a mist thing,
and it cleared the mist, like a huge radius around you, so like, imagine if you could get to like the top of a mountain in the mist lamp, and put down a mist lamp, and it like cleared all the mist from around the mountain.
Oh, that got me amazed. Oh man. Then you could like actually clear the mist land file, right? Like you could like methodically clear all the mist down there. I feel like that would be really cool.
Right now it just gives you that now, but it would just take so many of the, what is it? I think every lamp takes one of the lifts, right? So that could get a little bigger. There's a frickin' bot? I'm sitting in front of a bike. What is this?
I didn't know they were here. Kinda like an Ubisoft tower to clear the mist? No, no, no, no. I'm not talking about something you get to the top of the hill and use. I'm talking about something the player builds wherever he wants. That's not an Ubisoft mechanic.
Ubisoft mechanics are go-to-place, hit-button, thing happen. That's Ubisoft. Yep. That's not what I'm talking about here.
Isn't Enshrouded more like a Ubisoft game? Enshrouded is a far more gamified game than Valheim. Yeah. Enshrouded leads the players to things in a much more standard video game fashion.
Where Valheim is more about exploring, Valheim is more about figuring it out kind of stuff. And Shrouded is more about, here's your quest log. Here is the next thing you need to do to get the
next tier of weapons for this thing. You need to go to this place to get this ember so you can make this forge so you can get this upgrade. Like it's way more on rails. But to be honest, I think that fine It not a bad thing it just it more guided is a good way to say it and Shroud is much more exciting Enchirouted have a story you can follow Yes If Enchirouted has a final boss I never even seen it but I know it exists I very little Enchirouted fan so I can tell you that much more All I know is I am looking forward to doing the quests in Enchirouted like in an MMO I literally going to play a single player MMO in Enchirouted where I just log in and I look at my quest log
And I'm like what quest do we get to do today? And I'm just gonna like spend eight hours a day going off and doing quests and shit like that. Yeah, I can't wait. It will be good.
Just in case. What kind of build do you want to do in the Shrouded? Um, I think I'm going to do like a dwarven style mountain city.
I really like this idea of having like a little courtyard in front of a giant stone really well built arch that goes into like a, almost like a Fallout style vault courtyard with like rooms and stuff on each side.
And then it leads to like a grown room and then behind that is like a really nice bathroom kind of thing. So, I got ideas. I got ideas. Yeah. So we'll see if any of them are going to happen.
I don't have super, a lot of experience with the Entrapta Guild System. I've played with it a little bit, but it's very different from other systems. It has some interesting gotchas.
So we'll kind of see how it goes. The cool thing about doing WoW Forever Hardcore with Only Fangs 3, I don't know if that's going to happen. Soda usually announces Only Fangs months in advance.
I mean we're like what? We're less than a month from WoW Forever. I don't know if he's just letting Asmund do his thing or I have no idea. I haven't heard anything about it.
There's no hardcore in Forever Launch? Oh! I thought it was one of the four servers that was being moved. Didn't you talk about that yesterday on DropBrain? Oh well that makes more sense. Cool man. That's like great. I feel like that's great.
All things considered, that's probably a great decision. That way they'll have a few months to fine tune the servers, make sure it's not, you know, make sure they don't have any major server drops that would cause a hardcore character to die.
Looks like you're very smart, I believe. There's a good little packet right around the corner.
Wise Python says, and Shrouded has NPCs that walk around in your base. Don't forget to include them in your plan. So, wait, okay. So, you enter the giant stone archway.
You go down a small corridor with design work and armor stands and item stands on the left and right. And then that opens up to, like, a big rectangular courtyard with a fountain in the middle. And then in the walls on the left and right are, like,
like, we'll call them cells, like in a prison. and then the NPCs can live in those. Yeah. Give me five.
Looks like randomness all to themselves. But what I mean is nice room. That's what I, that's what I meant to say. Nice room, very nice room.
Very nice room. Very nice room. At least as nice as the mod.
Deadman. Can I draw a schematic and tape real quick?
Nah. The mods have beds? What is this the Hiltons?
No no no they have bed rooms. I'm just saying about that.
Yeah, the one thing I really like about Valheim's build system is like, in most games, a panel is larger than a person, it's like big, but like Valheim makes it so like a panel is like a quarter of that.
So like four, if I remember right, and maybe they changed it, it's been a long time since I played it, but like four panels would make a normal size panel. Like it has a bit of a weirdness, has a little bit of a weirdness in the system.
Not bad, just different, just different. But maybe they changed it since I played it. It's been a long time. Oh God. It's been a long time since I played. What the hell is it?
This island is in the middle of nowhere. Rude. Seriously? What? Ah! This is... It's a black forest. Okay. Rude. In the middle of the damn ocean.
Okay. You can't park your boat here. You can't park your boat here! Alright. Uh. Hey! Ok, Ukri getting a coalition embroidered pair of sweatpants. Thank you for great content over the past years.
I have been watching you monthly on YouTube for sometimes lurking in certain curtains. Awesome! Well thank you so much and Ukri enjoy the sweatpants. They're actually super high quality. I was wearing a pair yesterday.
So I appreciate that. Thank you so much.
So all of your enshrouded NPCs will be in cells?
Shit, I couldn't be mad at that one, that was pretty good. That was pretty good. I can't even get mad at that one. That was pretty good. Top of the list. Good job.
Can you play some Galactic Racer tomorrow so I feel if I will like it? Sure! How about tomorrow morning at 8am? Does that work for you? Let's do that. Let's do Star Wars Galactic Racer tomorrow morning.
I want a Power Ranger. Let's pencil that in. Wait, can we actually play it tomorrow morning? When is it actually out?
What about Silver Pines? We can check out Silver Pines 2 actually tomorrow. I don't know if we're gonna do full runs, but I mean, sure. Yeah, absolutely. We can check it out.
I don't know when the Star Wars thing is out. I'll have to look in. It's called Galactic Racer, right? Galactic Racer. I think I just heard a big rake turn. Let me see if I can do this without it.
Oh yeah! Wait, what? Oh wow! So wait, there's been footage out about this game.
People are already showing the game, right? Hold on one second, let me read it. Oh, no, no, no, no.
Okay, apparently it was like a big multiplayer event. Okay, okay. I see. Official launch is 2 p.m. PDT, October 6th.
So 5pm tomorrow? Uh, that's better. That's better.
Yeah, so unfortunately we're not going to be able to play that tomorrow morning. But, um, we'll play it soon if we can. Oh, hi big guy!
He's just coming to say hi. hours. Really? Yeah, fair, that'd be great. Yeah, yeah. If we can't play it tomorrow,
we just play it the next day No problem Yeah we can I mean we got nothing big going on on Wednesday
this is fine this is fine this is fine this is fine this is fine this is fine he's just he's just destroying us You just got poisoned because you ran into a puffer fish.
Ha! Get this, son. All right. I think I got a little bit of a
Hmmmm. Take it up some speed, take it up some speed.
Oh thank god. Oh nope, he's coming back, he's coming back. We're going to go ahead and hug the coastline a little bit I think.
Just in case. Thank you, Greg.
How is fishing in Valhalla? Oh, this is in the game.
Yeah. Valkyne fishing. This is game.
What's wrong with fishing? Um, it's...
The fishing mechanic in this game is kind of a good analogy for the entire game itself. Where it's like, you can tell there was an intent,
you can tell they wanted it to work in a way, but then it but then you do it and you're like what?
like it's there was an attempt yeah there was an attempt and once that attempt was taken I think they forgot the game had fish in it
and that's kind of that's kind of where we are yeah But one of the reasons I didn't go around and do a lot of the fishing is honestly like
the fishing in this game is not fun for me. It's not engaging, it's funky, it's very loose. Like you have to hold a fish onto the ground and then pick it up and sometimes they get
stuck in stuff and sometimes it's just it's just it's just it's a it's a very loose thing and and it does not feel good to me so I'd rather just it doesn't if there was like a big benefit to
fishing then I would do it but to be honest and you know thanks to Deb for this to be honest um you don't really need to fish there's there there are there are some cool things that you
get fishing. There's certain fish that will give you like weight quotients and like there is some cool unique stuff in fishing but you don't need any of it to have a good time in the game. It's not like the best feed is in fishing. It's not like you have to fish to get a certain cranket.
So you know and I'm very glad about that. I feel like if that was the case they would have wanted to spend a lot more time on the system right but it's kind of optional right now and that's fine.
That's okay.
Azumat has his own fishing game for Valheim? See? That's awesome. That's super cool. I've liked everything that Azumat has done. I wonder if Azumat's in game dev. Although I don't know how he has time with all the mods he has.
Dude, I was looking through his mods and stuff. Azumat would make a great game dev. Like, he's... The kind of stuff that he adds and the way that his mind works and he can clearly adapt him.
I... I should see if he's looking for a job. Let me see how successful Emberville is. And how much... If we can afford to hire some new folks.
Oh. Collected One says, and so the game studio begins. Well. Amber, Amber, Cygnus Cross, the makers of Emberville,
were around before me. I joined Cygnus Cross, you know, as a co-owner and a creative director. But, I mean, there's lots of things going on these days.
So, you know. Anyway. This has been a really fun run, guys.
Thanks for being here for us. You have fought well, warrior.
Thank you for taking care of your war. And this world once again to be right with the rest of the Ingressills. But that is a story for another time. For now, you have a cleaner reward in Valhalla, don't you think? You've claimed all the prestige to improve yourself, word to get to the hall and I'll
open you. All you need to do is what's about to be carrying you there, but every night you will always be welcome here in the chance the world should be wished to return. Wait what? Wait how- what? Turn? Wait, what?
Wait, how? What? As the blood coated the ancient stone, it rippled through the world tree,
to itself in every realm. In Valhalla, Great Odin raised his head and saw a vision.
He saw how Valheim, as the just difficult Satan nurtured its roots, would once again join the vows of Istriville.
He saw how new tribes would venture over the crest of the world to reclaim the realm that
the All-Father once taught to me. He felt the sacrifice that had restored not only the branch, but the fate of all the world.
And he heard its leaves whisper a song of their heroes, who had brought it all to pass. Their song rose the wind, echoed in the thunder, and hummed through the soil of the earth.
Every bird tolled at a step in the journey of determination. and survival.
Desolation, hope, suffering, and heart-threatening. All these files are offering in the name of Odin.
The glory and cruelty of his will has been their guide. At last their efforts would build to a crescendo that he could finally be word is As the vision faded he turned to the gate
Carried by the Valkyrie one last time, the warrior rose again. I love the main character in Tower of Armor
I love it Tower of Armor Tower of Armor Come on.
That's it, right? through the cutscene
it was such an amazing call by the devs oh man just love him
Let me carry. Thank you. Oh. There we go.
Man, that was good. Man, that was good. Oh, it kicked us to title. Really? Okay. Interesting. Chris Abbott says,
Will Emberville eventually have cut scenes? You know, it's a funny aspect, Chris. Um, we are, we are doing what we're mostly doing in the prologue, where there's not, there's not cutscenes like that, as of now.
Um, there, we've been flirting with an idea of something like that by 1.0, but, no, pretty much most of that takes place in-game. Okay. Did you find out who did the Valentine cutscenes and hired them?
You know, that, I, it, I, no, it wouldn't really fit what we're doing. Yeah. But, yeah. Man that was so good. Let's go make the crown before we're done.
Oh! You're supposed to do a quick face tour. Thank you. I couldn't catch the live stream of Valhalla until this one. Although I have been watching the video. I was a little sad until you said in Shrouded, smiley face. Thanks to all the team.
Thank you for the 20 bucks man, appreciate you tipping our mod team. Thank you so much. Alright mods, did you get a flag to the YouTube guys? I think we're going to go ahead and do this real quick.
Before we do... Uhh... Let's see... Share...
Hmm. You want to make sure things lit up and nice and down.
Okay. I love it.
Free range chickens. You love to see it, Dad. Okay. Let's start it right?
Mods, you can let them know. I can see this version. Super Chat, what do you think is the next big step in survival game evolution in the next five or ten years that you hope to see or you think we might see for new survival games to come?
So the biggest thing that I think we're going to see in survival games in the future is I think we're going to see more survival games that have well-defined and fun main stories.
And what I mean by that is that I think that a game like Abiotic Factor that was made for a more modern-day age would be one of the bigger games out there right now.
But there's some reasons that Abiotic Factor is never going to be mainstream. But I feel that there is this new realm being explored explored where you take a sandbox survival experience and you attach it to
like a very cool main story progression and five years sounds just about right
okay kind of like grounded yes grounded is it one of the reasons that I feel that Grounded was as successful as it was is because of the main story background.
Yes. Grounded is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. I think we're gonna start seeing more Grounded. Yep. Forest was a great example earlier that, but I
think that's like that's I feel like that's like the big next step. Yeah. Um, where is this helmet? What is it called?
It's not the witch crown. It's called like the... ...helm of something? Oh, here. Crown of Valheim.
Whoa! The creatures of Valheim will not harm the one who mastered them. Movement speed 5, attack stamina minus 20, turn minus 20, shoot minus 20, run minus 20.
Bro. That is so hard. I love it. Okay, let's get started. Okay, and that's the end of the video.
Hold on one second. Oh, hey, I got to go real quick. I'll be back in one second, guys. Always a good time when your HVAC guy comes in and he's like,
Hey, I know that we were just doing some quick work today and leaving, but I figured I'd want to come down and tell you, did you want to see the leak in your roof? Did you know you have a leak in your roof?
Let's go take a look. Let's go take a look! So yeah, sure enough there's a little tiny leak somewhere across the insulation. We'll have to get that all dealt with. The joys of home ownership.
Anyway! Okay! Um, let's see. Let's see, what else do we want to do? I think... Hmm... I was raided?
Oh no, I was raided. What happened? Is everything dead? Oh, that's pretty good. What kind of way was it? Good to see that you're still alive. We heard noises.
Maybe my chickens defended the realm. Oh, the door wasn't even open. What? What was it? Next wave says rich person problems?
A leaky roof is rich person problems? Is it? Is that where we are these days?
Jeez. Okay. I mean, I guess poor people, the poorest people don't have roofs, if that's what you're asking for, but I mean... Jeez. A roof in this economy? I know! Jeez.
Oh my lord. Anyway, you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to take a quick lunch. And I think I'm going to come back, and I do want to play some Monsters and Memories this afternoon. I was talking to the devs yesterday, and they said the servers are holding tight.
They just increased the queue limit, and things are looking okay, so might check out a little bit of Monsters & Memories this afternoon. Maybe what we'll do, I'm going to go take a lunch. I'm going to come back.
We may start with something else. I kind of want to see if End of Abyss is going to grab me anymore. I kind of want to give End of Abyss, like, one more stream and see if there's something in there.
that makes me really want to finish it. I feel like I'm close to a hook in that game. Matter of fact, has YouTube been on hold? Oh, no, I did the YouTube bid before I left. Right before I left.
But, yeah, we may get that tried. But, again, I want to end the stream this afternoon with a little bit of Monsters and Memories and go from there. So what I'm going to do right now, Chad, is I'm going to radio over to Pascoe, twitch.tv slash co. I will be back in, like, not too long, honestly.
Probably about half an hour, 45 minutes. And when I get back, we're going to go from there. And it should be fun. I'll see you guys soon. Have a great one, dudes. Thank you again for being here for Valheim 1.0. This was such a fun run, dude.
Really appreciate it. See you guys soon. Bye-bye.
