# I Failed at Trading Until I Understood This (Trading Cheat Codes)

> Source: [I Failed at Trading Until I Understood This (Trading Cheat Codes)](https://youtube.com/watch?v=TOalz3j5Qzk)

## Summary

In this motivational trading video, the speaker shares personal lessons from nearly a decade of failure before achieving success. He emphasizes mastering time, embracing pain, and building a systematic, data-driven approach to trading.

### Key Points

- **Mastering Time** [00:43] — The speaker reframes time as a tool: any struggle is temporary, and if success takes 10 years out of a 100-year life, it's only 10% of his life. This mindset helped him persist through failures.
- **Hard Times Create Good Men** [04:10] — Quoting the proverb, he explains that choosing easy actions (laziness, excuses) leads to a hard life, while hard work leads to an easier life over time. Success requires embracing initial pain.
- **Have a System** [08:23] — Relying on gut feeling is unreliable; a trading system must be systematic and data-driven, ideally 90% black and white, to build consistency and avoid random results.
- **Keep It Simple** [10:10] — Simple strategies outperform complicated ones. The speaker repeatedly returns to simplicity after overcomplicating, emphasizing that simplicity is key to consistency.
- **Understand Drawdown** [10:40] — Every trader experiences drawdowns; it's a normal part of trading. Don't abandon a strategy after a bad week or month; stick with it to see long-term results.
- **Look Inward, Not Outward** [11:42] — Instead of blaming external factors, traders should self-reflect and work on themselves. Focus on what can be improved in one's own trading rather than external circumstances.
- **Keep Risk Consistent** [12:39] — Risk the same dollar amount on every trade to maximize winners and manage losers. Inconsistent risk (e.g., $500 then $200) undermines profitability.
- **Collect Data** [13:22] — Top companies succeed by collecting data; traders should do the same. Data reveals what works, what doesn't, and how to improve, making it essential for growth.

### Conclusion

The speaker's journey underscores that trading success comes from a long-term mindset, systematic simplicity, and relentless self-improvement. By mastering time, embracing pain, and collecting data, traders can overcome initial failures and build lasting profitability.

All right, listen. We got to talk. We got to talk. So, let's go. Yeah. So, I failed for years when it came to, you know, just trading the markets. So, I know for
a fact I'm qualified to talk about this subject because it took me almost a subject because it took me almost a decade, right? Like eight years. So basically let's talk about
what I learned, what helped me through the whole process, right? So for me the whole process, right? So for me um
process, I mastered time. So what do I mean? I mastered time. So what do I mean? Well, basically I always remind myself that whatever I'm going through right now is temporary.
It's going to be temporary. So every single day I woke up, right? I'm like, yo, you know, this job is temporary. It is what it is.
You know, I'm not going to be here for that long. it's going to be temporary, you know, and that alone basically helped me get through whatever whatever I was going through. Okay? And I also told myself, listen, if it's
going to take me, you know, let's say, I said, you know, listen, if I live up to 100 years old, right, and it takes me 10 years to finally be successful,
that's only 10% of my life. That's it. That's only 10% of my life. So the way I was looking at this was, you know, 10% of my life
10% of my life and all I have to do is just keep going, right? Just keep going. Let's keep going because overall um you know
basically let time destroy you. Like some of you guys are 2 months in, 3 months in and complain about I'm not I'm not profitable yet. I'm not profitable yet. I blew I blew a couple of accounts two
months in and you cla and you complain about how many accounts you blown like come on man. So what I did again I matched the time bro like I said all right bet man 10%
that's nothing right and you have to understand that once you master time and once you understand that things take time to work. Remember we had that lockdown? That was
what 5 years ago. That lockdown was 5 years ago. It don't seem like 5 years ago. No, it that's a half a decade. Went by like this fast.
So that should tell you that you shouldn't even care about time. Time should be it shouldn't be it shouldn't be in in your you know your thought process right now. All you should care about is
right now. All you should care about is how can I master trading, right? Um, so the way I'm looking at this, right, is all right, bet. If I keep going, it's
only going to be 10% of, you know, that's it. That helped me when it came to just keep going and and not giving up. And no one tell no one no one is telling you that things are going to be easy.
I don't guys life is hard. It's just what it is. Life is hard, right? There's a quote um I'm quite sure y'all heard it. Hard times create good men and easy times create bad man.
Something like that. And and what that simply means is simply means is if you want a hard life if you want a hard life just do the easy things, right?
just do the easy things, right? Be lazy. Don't journal. Don't look over your trades. Right?
Always have excuses. Always blaming someone else if you want a hard life. But if you want that easy life, you're going to put in you have to put in that hard work. There's no other guys. There's no other
way. I didn't design life. This is how life works. You're going to have to put in that hard work. But the great thing is things get easier when you put in hard work. So in the beginning, yes, it's hard hard. But eventually you start
to get easier and easier and easier. Okay. um in the song um Mini Man right from 50 Cents he said joy doesn't feel so good without pain right
doesn't feel so good without pain right something like that and it's so true it's so true guys right I when I first got my supercar I experienced that I experienced
I experienced you know just right, the hard work. And when I finally got my super car, man, it felt 10 times
got my super car, man, it felt 10 times better. versus if someone just gave me that, you know, gave me that super car. Let's say
someone just gave me a supercar just because, you know, just because I wouldn't feel special at all. That moment wouldn't be as good as, you know, if you just grind, putting your hard, you know, your your
hard work in and your sweat and tears and all that pain and when you finally get rewarded, man, it's going to feel so good. So the moral or the story is
good. So the moral or the story is there's no success without pain. Okay? pain, right? I don't know what fairy tale life you guys are living or reading or looking at on some I don't know what video you're
looking at, but success is all about pain in the beginning, guys. You can't pain in the beginning, guys. You can't skip that. You have to understand that success in the beginning is going to be ugly. It's going to be painful.
It's going to be like, yo, what I'm doing? But if you really think doing? But if you really think you can make millions or six figures without any pain in the beginning, I don't know what book you are reading,
bro. Like, stop it. It's going to be pain. It's going to be you're going to be doubting yourself. If you're going to be crying, you're going to be doing everything. You know, I I once heard uh some some
comment in the second that was the most funniest comment ever. Dude said cuz I was I think I was talking about trading how painful it is, right? how painful it is, right? And he said, "Yo, listen. Trading would
make an an atheist a Christian and a Christian an atheist." Yo, that joint was mad funny. Yo, that's how crazy trading is, bro. it is it will make you
like just question life like yo what's going on like is this really like this tough so let's talk about the things that basically helped me during the time that I was failing when it came to trading um you know and just what really
made me take my trading to the next level and first thing I can I can say is keeping things you know like having a system, right? Having a systematic way of just doing things. Um, you can't just rely on your on your gut. You can't,
guys. You can't rely on your gut because your gut is going to fail you. You know, you can't even back test that, you know. You can't even collect data based on your gut. It has to be tangible. It has to be some type of data you have to
to be some type of data you have to collect in order to uh rely on your on your on your trading system. So don't think that, you know, you can do things based on your gut. Trust me, yeah, you you will hear
traders say something like that, but I'm telling you right now, that's a waste of time. It has to be as systematic as possible, as black and white as possible. Yes, we all are discretionary traders at the end of the day, but you
want your system to be, I would say, 90% black and white. Um and you know rest is understanding the market whatever the case is but overall guys you have to
understand building a system is the way to go because you have to do things a certain way like for example this week I'm profitable because I was using p basically a system that I'm following every single day right and just because
not going to have losing weeks or days or whatever the case is yes but it what it does It it helps you build consistency. If you do not have a things and random things give you random
results. The next thing is keeping it simple. Always outdo complicated simple. Always outdo complicated strategies, right? So, I always want to keep it simple. Period. Right? I want to keep it simple. I don't care about
nothing else but simple. Every time I always trying to complicate things, I'm always finding myself going right back right back to my simple strategy. So, keeping it
simple always helped me um throughout the process when I was failing, when I was just a horrible trader, I always went back to just keeping things as simple as possible. Now, next thing is um me understanding draw down. Okay,
this is not talked about a lot by a lot of traders, but draw down is is Every trader, I don't care. Show me the best trader in the world, I guarantee you that person goes through some type of draw down. Okay? It could be one
week, it could be one month, it could be whatever, I guarantee you that person goes through some type of draw down. So, you want to understand draw down is is going to be a part of your trading. And don't let it discourage you to the point
where you throw, you know, systems I throw away just because I had a bad week or I had, you know, a bad month. So don't throw away your system or your strategy just because you having a bad week. And I wish I man known that for,
career. But that definitely helped me, you know, um when I decided to say, you know, let me lock in. Let me just stick to one strategy. Now the next thing is but you got to look inside instead of looking outside. Okay? Look inward
instead of outward. What that simply means is you have to work on yourself. means is you have to work on yourself. Stop blaming these imaginary people. Um you stop thinking that somebody's always out to get you when you're trading the
market. Stop thinking that way. Trust me, it's not going to help you. Tr I I you. 100% guarantee you it's not going to help you. um it's going actually probably hurt you more because you're not looking inward. So you have to look
at yourself. What are you doing wrong? Okay, because you you have to understand matter what. No matter what, you're gonna get stopped out. But okay, but gonna get stopped out. But okay, but what can I do to either increase my
winners to make them bigger or what can I do to a point where all right, maybe I won't get stopped out that much or if I still get stopped out at the same rate, next thing that really helped me out was just keeping the risk the same um on
every trade. Okay, you don't want to go too crazy. One trade you risking $500, the next trade you're risking $200, the next trade you're risking $1,000. Try to keep as the same. Try to keep it same because you want to make sure your
winners you can maximize them. You know what I'm saying? Because if you just have, you know, one loser is 1,000, next loser is 200, that that don't make any sense, you know? So you want to keep your losers,
your losers, okay, at the same at the same um amount, dollar amount and then make sure your winners are much larger than that. And uh next thing is just collect data as much as possible. That's it. Collect
data as much as possible, guys. Collect data as much as possible. Um you want to be a data machine, okay? Um, if you look at the top companies in the world, I guarantee you 100% what they all have in common is they collect data. The masters
at that, okay? They have data all over the place. They actually know you more than you know yourself. That's how much data they collect, bro. So, same thing you have to understand uh when it comes to trading, you have to collect data
because the data is going to show you what's working, what's not working, what you have to take out, what you have to uh add on, what you have to do to increase winners, what you have to do to not get stopped out that much.
with everything. So, you're going to have to collect data, okay? You're going to have to know yourself more and more and more. You're going to have to know
why you are on this losing streak. You're going to have to know why um certain trades don't work out or whatever the case is. You're going to have to know a lot. Okay? So, just collect data like crazy and um go from
there. So, that that's definitely those are things that really helped me out uh when it came to just trading the markets. Um and that time thing was a really a big thing. you know, I really understood time. I understood how to
manipulate my brain to just keep going and say, "Yo, bro, don't worry about this. It's only temporary." Um, you know, just keep going. And I understand that, bro, if I if it took me 10 years, that's only 10% of my life. Those little
things, it might seem small, but it helped me a lot. A lot, guys. A lot. So, I just want to share that with you because I know it this probably going to because I know it this probably going to help somebody, you know. Um, and if so,
help somebody, you know. Um, and if so, you know what to do. Until then, guys, stay blessed, stay humble, and keep going. Right. So we
