[0:00] chainsaw man Jutsu Kaizen and Attack on [0:02] Titan if you know any of these shows [0:04] then you know Studio mappa it's an [0:06] internet buzzword at this point when you [0:07] want to describe anything that has [0:09] gorgeous fluid 2D animations creative [0:12] storyboards a one-of-a-kind style and [0:14] who could forget tons and tons of work [0:18] rated scandals I'm not going to go too [0:20] deep into the situation but in general [0:21] animators that have worked for the [0:23] studio reported to have been given [0:24] egregious inhumane work hours there was [0:27] one instance where an episode director [0:28] for Attack on Titan apparently worked [0:30] for 3 days straight without even going [0:33] home only to be given enough money to [0:35] buy half a copy of Elden ring per scene [0:38] hence when said animators took to [0:40] Twitter to voice their struggles the [0:42] studio graciously told them hey shut the [0:45] [ __ ] up or we will sue you so when mappa [0:47] themselves released an original show [0:49] about an overworked animator this raised [0:51] a few eyebrows a mappa anime about [0:55] making anime yo let's go oh [ __ ] [1:03] are they self reporing this is getting a [1:05] bit too real hey yo what was this some [1:09] kind of meta ironic statement to show [1:11] the struggles of animators or perhaps we [1:13] would get to know the Intensive process [1:15] of making an anime that's what I thought [1:18] that's what everyone online thought but [1:20] instead we got an isekai how the hell do [1:23] you [ __ ] that up zenu introduces us to [1:25] Nao an anime director who burst onto the [1:28] scene after her debut show went Mega [1:30] viral everyone looks up to her skills [1:32] even her Studio's president the great [1:34] director natso is over there trying to [1:36] push a 10 billion yen Blockbuster into [1:38] this world wait I thought her line was [1:40] hey shut the [ __ ] up or we will sue you [1:42] but nao's next anime will prove to be [1:44] her toughest after being told to make an [1:46] anime about love our main character is [1:48] left stunlocked having never experienced [1:50] love before the show is already late for [1:52] production this paired with her stubborn [1:54] unwillingness to let anyone else touch [1:56] her work all she has to show for is a [1:59] blank piece of paper staring right at [2:01] her face just then I felt an [2:02] overwhelming sense of familiarity wash [2:04] over me I've been there before not about [2:07] the love thing I'm happily in a [2:09] relationship [2:10] cap but I know how it feels to [2:13] desperately want to have inspiration [2:15] strike anxiously looking through the [2:16] comments of excited fans waiting to see [2:19] my next work why won't you come I would [2:21] beg no Diddy I just can't let them [2:23] down well time for lunch s Jin W would [2:27] most definitely struggle in a 1 V one [2:28] match against the funer sh Jin wo gaps [2:31] Hitler so [2:39] hard after eating a bad clam Nao [2:42] suddenly wakes up in her favorite anime [2:44] called A Tale of perishing a story [2:46] brimming with interesting characters [2:48] like girl with no emotions horny mascot [2:51] Jarvis tits and of course our lead hero [2:55] sexist Sam apparently this guy's Quirk [2:58] is that he hates being around women and [2:59] unfortunately that's one of the only [3:01] entertaining parts of the show I'd say [3:03] I'm pretty spoiled by anime ever since I [3:05] started watching again in 2018 run with [3:07] the wind attack on Titan jiu Jutsu [3:09] Kaizen Vinland Saga mob psycho doctor [3:11] Stone mushoku tensei ranking of Kings [3:13] Oxi Heavenly delusion dungeon meshy and [3:16] most recently orb not only are these [3:19] animes super high quality in terms of [3:21] Animation but they're also stories that [3:23] manage to Captivate me to the point [3:25] where I can tell you every major plot [3:27] point that happens in each of them [3:29] without GL ing a single time at [3:31] Wikipedia now with zenu it felt as if [3:33] something had to be sacrificed for the [3:35] other in order to achieve great [3:36] animation zenu has a story that's about [3:39] as mid as McDonald's when you're not [3:41] craving McDonald's you ever had fast [3:42] food for the sole purpose of it being [3:45] fast food like it's 2:00 you haven't had [3:48] lunch and you have a meeting in 15 [3:49] minutes that [ __ ] ain't hidden brother I [3:51] don't have time to sit down and have a [3:53] succulent Chinese meal just let me suck [3:55] down a burger fries and coke and dip [3:57] that's what the story of zenu felt like [3:59] to me average generic middle of the road [4:01] 5 out of 10 and look even the characters [4:03] agree with me my big brother was telling [4:05] me that it was the biggest box office [4:07] Club in the hay era I'm not kidding the [4:09] movie that she gets isekaied in is [4:11] canonically terrible if the little [ __ ] [4:13] at the back can't even stay awake what [4:15] makes you think I can I'm not saying [4:16] this anime is objectively bad there's [4:19] nothing wrong with a basic hero story [4:21] but it's nothing to applaud at either [4:22] let me give you a general rundown of [4:24] what an episode looks like spoilers for [4:26] episode 4 if you're genuinely watching [4:28] this anime for its story this this is [4:29] freerun from teu she's one of the main [4:31] Squad members and is the designated [4:33] support mage of the team but lately ever [4:35] since the invasion of demons she's been [4:37] acting a little sus so Nao decides to [4:40] follow her want to explain why you're [4:41] sneaking [4:43] [Music] [4:45] around shh I think she's evil what no [4:50] way she's just practicing choir with her [4:52] elf buddies come on I'll show you see [4:55] it's the same old creepy satanic [4:57] Cemetery where they always practice [5:01] [Music] [5:03] are you [ __ ] kidding [5:06] me this is what I imagine Kanye does in [5:08] his spare time so turns out Elfie is [5:11] trying to summon Satan in hopes that it [5:13] will bring upon the destruction of all [5:15] Humanity but why you might ask why would [5:17] she do such a horrible thing I can't [5:20] take it anymore dude since when are you [5:22] a stand for the ultimate void yeah why [5:24] are you trying to Nuke all of us [5:26] apparently Elie's only way to end her [5:28] personal suffering is is to end everyone [5:30] else's lives too and there's no other [5:32] solution she can think of hey here's an [5:35] idea how about therapy turns out we [5:37] don't need it cuz in the end NAA draws a [5:39] K-pop Idol for Elfie so she can fan girl [5:42] instead of killing herself it was pretty [5:50] funny gist is that each episode has an [5:52] end of world gimmick that the characters [5:54] have to deal with and by the last 5 [5:56] minutes nao's ruler will start talking [5:58] which signals to us plus that her Al is [6:00] up finally this is the reward you get [6:02] for enduring all that [6:08] buildup I'm not going to lie this does [6:11] go hard the animation in these few [6:13] minutes puts most anime airing right now [6:15] to shame I can see Sakamoto day's fans [6:17] licking my window pane desperate for a [6:19] fraction of this animation mappa have [6:21] definitely not lost their touch in this [6:23] department but needing to slug through [6:25] 15 minutes of boring plot just to get [6:28] here was a bit much for me I don't care [6:30] about the story I'm just here for the [6:32] sakuga that's really all that zenu [6:34] offers for me too I think what's funny [6:36] is that they just decide to rehash that [6:38] same animation every single episode they [6:41] go through the whole ass sequence over [6:44] and over again bro I've seen this before [6:47] please just stop I reckon I'd save more [6:49] time just by reading the summary of each [6:51] episode and skipping to the end for the [6:53] animation ironically the only part that [6:55] got me invested was when they decided to [6:57] step away from the story and tell us [6:59] about natco's life how she became the [7:01] genius Prodigy that she is and why so [7:04] many people look up to her I just wish [7:06] they put more emphasis on the real world [7:08] and on NATO as an animator because while [7:10] they do try to make connections between [7:12] how NATO acts in the anime and her [7:15] stubbornness in the real world it just [7:17] all falls flat from how quickly they [7:19] Rush the story but in the end who am I [7:21] to yucky y I think a very sweet message [7:24] that this anime imparts is who gives a [7:26] [ __ ] NATO knows that her favorite anime [7:29] was a massive flop but to her that [7:31] doesn't matter for most things you don't [7:33] need a reason to like it it's a feeling [7:35] so just go with it as long as it's not [7:37] illegal if I say I like your name and [7:39] it's one of the best anime movies I've [7:41] ever seen no one can deny me that just [7:44] as much as me saying I didn't like a [7:46] silent voice gives me the power to drown [7:48] out all the death threats no one should [7:49] be invalidating your own experiences on [7:52] an anime not even me I watched gig's [7:54] latest video where he briefly talked [7:56] about zenu and he referred to this anime [7:58] as a love letter to animation as a whole [8:01] loaded with referential scenes and [8:03] drawings from decades old anime like [8:05] NASA you see I'm baby while I have [8:08] watched NASA before I never would have [8:10] made that connection on my own zenu [8:13] attracts a demographic that really have [8:14] a burning passion for anime the people [8:17] who know the ins and outs of the [8:18] industry the culture and the history as [8:21] much as I've spent these past years [8:23] talking about anime I'm not at that [8:24] level gig mentioned that the plot [8:26] reminded him of old school isekai which [8:28] was probably centuries before I was born [8:30] so I'm unable to fully appreciate the [8:32] little nuances this anime has to offer [8:35] and I think that's why it didn't [8:36] resonate with me for me it's an okay [8:38] show that I'll watch just cuz it's [8:39] pretty to look at I like when the comedy [8:41] catches you off guard sometimes when [8:43] natuko uses modern slang but aside from [8:46] those two things I really can't bear to [8:48] watch this show without scrolling [8:50] through my phone looking for the next [8:51] Pokémon card I'm going to buy seriously [8:53] I'm addicted someone stopped me not [8:55] really though I won't try it for [8:56] yourself see what you think and let me [8:57] know in the comments thanks for watching [8:59] as as always see you soon
