[00:02] video we're gonna be going over how to assemble and the hardware of the DIY assemble and the hardware of the DIY sawn-off basic are two smart plugs the [00:29] son of basic smart plug is a alright so first up is the Sun off basic r2 and you're only going to need one of these this device has everything built-in so it has the relay the power supply that [02:31] you speedy 266 basically it has everything we need to get this done and it's all in one little package but the only thing with this is that you can't just flash it you need to put in a header so that's why we have this guy [02:43] header so that's why we have this guy over here this is a four pin female the sawn-off there are holes available on the PCB alright and the next up here we're gonna need to cable wire glands and so the way that these work is you [02:57] stick in the cable and then you twist this to tighten it around the cable and this provides a nice secure holder for the cable so that way it's nice and in and so you're gonna need the two cable glands and two nuts they usually [03:12] come together but one thing that doesn't come together is the o-rings now we have gland but we need waterproofing in between the cable gland and the enclosure so that's what you need these o-rings for this provides a nice secure [03:26] enclosure speaking of enclosure we're going to talk about that next so you're going to need one waterproof enclosure what makes this waterproof is it has this gasket and it has these nice seals [03:40] assemble it basically this is just a small waterproof enclosure it has the gasket it has the four screws it has the top and the bottom and so what this enclosure will be able to use this whole entire device outside and it'll be [03:55] weather resistant all right but since the sound off is gonna be inside the enclosure we're gonna need a way to turn on the relay manually just in case we don't have our phone but we want to turn it on that's where this button comes [04:07] into play so this is a small button with a blue LED ring so there's a blue LED ring right here and it is a button which is why it has four connections two of them are for the LED and then two of them are for the button part so you're [04:20] gonna need the button you're going to need the night and the o-ring these usually come together to connect the button to the sawn-off we're gonna need cable which is why I chose this cable this cable has four [04:33] wires in it so it has a blue a red a green and a black which is nice because we can color-code it and it's all nicely together so it's all nice contained with the sawn-off there is only a neutral and line connection most of the wires in the [04:48] USA at least have three you have the neutral live and ground so in order to bridge the two grounds together we're going to use this guy right here this is a push in wire connector so you push down on this and you can stick a wire in [05:01] stick a wire in here another optional thing that somebody in the comments of the demo video mentioned was using a fuse so if you want to use a fuse and give another layer protection go ahead and use a fuse alright those are all the [05:15] parts we are going to need for this sawn-off DIY smart plug alright so what tools are you going to need to assemble this well first off you're going to need a drill to drill the holes for the cable glands and the button to drill the holes [05:29] for the buttons you're gonna need a 7/16 spade bit or a 12 millimeter and then for the cable line you're gonna need an 11 16 or 18 millimeter and then to drill [05:41] pilot holes you're gonna need a three to four millimeter normal drill bit then to mark the holes we're gonna need some tape and a sharpie we're also going to you're gonna need flux so that way the solder sticks better you're going to [05:53] need solder itself I have mine in a nice little spool holder steel wire so you can clean the tip a soldering iron which I just have this well or one right here this is not required but it's good for your health this is a soldering fan that [06:07] I created if you guys want a video on this let me know and to make your life easier helping hands and a PCB holder are great for holding all the different things then to strip the actual wire it's good [06:19] to have some wire strippers wire cutters and then also for the whole marketing smart let's get into assembly okay the first thing that we are going to tackle is the [07:40] enclosure and the gasket so what you want to do is take the little gasket and start putting it in the groove on the top part of the enclosure you just simply want to go around and tuck it into the little trench or groove [07:54] once you've tucked it you're going to have a little bit of excess sticking out and so I'm just gonna take my side cutters and line it up and then just cut cutters and line it up and then just cut a little bit off and then just tuck it [08:09] in there we go the gasket is in so that way when it closes it has a nice seal next we're gonna take the tape and then tape both sides of the enclosure like this then use the razor blade cut off the tape so you want to have the tape [08:25] the tape so you want to have the tape covering the entire side of the if you want and then repeat this process on the other side alright got tape on this side and this side next we're gonna put tape on the top so you want to [08:39] choose one side of the top doesn't matter because they're both the same and then just lay some tape on top of it move it out and then chop it off with side we're just gonna fold this down there we go so now we got the top two [08:53] and both side now we can draw where the holes are gonna go all right so now you're going to want to grab your sharpie and ruler I'm going to be using the millimeter side because it's a lot easier to use and more precise and for [09:06] gonna take the ruler and then if you want to line it up with the side of the enclosure take your sharpie and you want to first mark a dot at 26 millimeters [09:19] then you want to go a little bit further mark another dot at 26 millimeters and you're gonna take your ruler and draw a line from the dot close enough so now I got a straight line next we're gonna line it up with the line and go up 17 [09:34] millimeters and once you find 17 millimeters you just want to draw a line and then the intersection of the two lines is where we're gonna drill the pilot hole now repeat the process on the other side but you want to make sure [09:49] that they line up and you don't want to by accident draw the line on this side the point is the cable is gonna be going in straight through here so you want to have them lined up on the same sides of the enclosure alright so now I've [10:02] intersection points on both the sides now we're going to move on to the lid for this one you want to draw a line forty nine millimeters from the bottom forty nine millimeters from the bottom so make a make two dots and then connect [10:17] them to make a line there we go got a line now we're gonna make our dot which is going to be 19 millimeters from the side so go to the 19 millimeter mark and draw a dot and then you can go ahead and make a little line so there we go we got [10:33] our intersection point on the top now it's time to start drilling I grabbed a block of woods that way I don't damage my desk even more and so we're gonna start off with the lid since that's the easiest then take your drill you want to [10:47] put it in the fast-setting drill and you want it to go forward and you want to take your three to four millimeter drill bit and go ahead and load it up into the drill and you want to drill right on the intersection [11:04] is we are drilling pilot holes for the Spade bits so we got one done and now Spade bits so we got one done and now we're gonna move on to the enclosure all [11:16] the pilot holes are drilled we're gonna go ahead and start with the 1116 spade bit for this one we're gonna go into speed one and we're gonna pop it into [11:29] reverse that way it drills a nice and slow even hole then you just take your spade bit stick it into the pilot hole and slowly start drilling you want to [11:42] make sure that the spade bit is nice and straight or else you'll drill a cricket straight or else you'll drill a cricket hole and then once the hole is drilled [11:55] go ahead take this spade bit pop it into the forward and just clean up the hole a little bit alright first hole done next we're gonna do the same thing on the other side make sure you pop it back into reverse alright we got the two [12:10] holes drilled for the enclosure now swap out the 1116 for the 7/16 and you want to make sure that the drill is on reverse speed 1 and drill so we're gonna [12:23] reverse speed 1 and drill so we're gonna grab the top and just start drilling pop it into forward again and clean up the hole a little bit now that all the holes are drilled you can remove the tape with the tape removed we can see our holes [12:37] and they need just a little bit of cleaning up so I'm going to take my cleaning up so I'm going to take my deburring tool and just clean up the smoother and with the diverting tool you just go around and just smooth out the [12:50] edges you could also use a razor blade and just cut off the little rail part it just takes a little bit longer ok now we're going to put in the cable glands into the enclosure first thing you want to do is take the o-rings and put them [13:04] on the threads of the cable glands so that way it's touching all the way to the end and you want to repeat the same process for the other cable gland next closure you want to make sure it's a tight fit as you can see mine are not [13:18] fitting in that case you can take the drill again and put the 1116 spade bit drill again and put the 1116 spade bit back on and just enlarge the hole [13:32] back on and just enlarge the hole enlarge the hole a little bit you want to make sure that it is a tight fit alright my holes are now good so I'm just going to stick in the cable glands then once they're in I'm going to take [13:45] then once they're in I'm going to take the nuts for each one put it over the cable gland and then you want to push in the cable gland and then turn it to secure it into the nut there we go the cable glands are in as you can see the [13:57] o-ring is making it nice and secure as well as tight so no water or anything can get in next we're gonna focus our attention on the LED button but specifically we're going to solder the wire to the button so grab your helping [14:12] hands and put the button into the alligator clip now we're going to strip the wires to expose the contacts so first you want to spread all the wires then take your wire strippers and slowly one by one expose just a tiny bit of the [14:28] copper or these might be aluminum lawyers I'm not sure they're very very small thread and they're silver which is not copper if you guys know exactly what kind of wires these are let me know or they might be copper but they might be [14:40] tinned alright all the wires are stripped now we're going to put it in the alligator clip then I'm gonna take my flux and put some flux on each wire after that I'm going to take my soldering iron and some solder and put [14:54] my soldering iron underneath the wire and then the solder on top so you want wire alright now just take your steel wire and clean off the soldering tip so on the button on the bottom I don't know if you guys can tell but there are [15:09] markings there's a plus and there is a minus we're gonna connect a red wire to the plus black wire to the minus and then the other two wires don't matter so first up is the plus so we're gonna connect the red wire [15:22] okay so I've put the red wire on top of the pin then I'm simply just gonna take it connect and it makes the solder flow from the and flipped the button and the next wire we're gonna do is the black one so once [15:37] again put the wire on top of the pin you may need to hold it and there we go it's attached and then just solder the blue and green to the remaining two pins on the button the wires are all connected to the button next take the little [15:50] o-ring that's going to go on the button and put it through the wire and on to the button and simply just roll it up so it sits nice at the top of the button then take the top of the enclosure and put the button through as you can see [16:03] mine is not fitting so I'm going to have to take the spade bit and just like the enclosure make it bigger alright I have enlarged a whole little bit just gonna thread the wire through with the button and the button sits perfectly nice and [16:20] little bit like that then you want to take the nut for the button put it over the wire and then tighten it so the button is tight to the enclosure go ahead use some pliers or even a wrench and just tighten it down a little bit [16:35] because if it's tight then no water will get in and there we go nice and tight as you can see there's no gap at the top of the button that's because of the o-ring next we're going to work on the sawn-off so just take everything off of the [16:52] sawn-off take you a flat screwdriver and simply pry at the bottom to separate the bottom part of the case to the top part so at the bottom off to the side set the actual sawn-off off to the side and we're gonna work on the top part of the [17:06] we're gonna work on the top part of the case now grab your drill remove the spade bit grab a four millimeter drill drill bit put it in the drill we're where's my block of wood gonna take my block of wood again set it on top so [17:22] what we're gonna do now is drill two holes in the top put that two holes are big hole and the reason we're drilling this hole is that way we can feed the wire in from the button so we're gonna drill one hole right here then we're [17:35] gonna drill a second hole overlapping the first hole you don't understand watch and I'll show you there we go we got one hole done then we're gonna drill the second one overlapping a little bit of the first [17:47] one all right there you go as you can see I made two holes that made one big one I'm going to take my deburring tool again and just clean up the sides there we go so now we got a hole in the top of the sawed-off enclosure now we're gonna [18:01] work on the Sun off so take your PCB holder and put the sawn-off in it then take the 4-pin female header and put it into the Sun off using the four holes next to the button so you want to put it in these four holes so that way there's [18:17] one hole remaining right here at the bottom so closest holes to the button then what I like to do to keep the to keep the header in while I'm soldering I like to use this stuff called wall tack it's meant for sticking stuff on walls [18:31] but I like to use it for keeping components on PCBs while I solder there we go nice and secure gonna flip it over gonna take my flux and put some flux on each of the pins coming in from the header now take your soldering iron and [18:46] solder on one side of the pin put the solder and then on the other put the solder and then on the other put the soldering iron there we go they are [18:59] soldered right there so now we can just remove the wall tack now put the sawn-off off to the side and we're gonna move back to the button take the top of the Sun off case and thread the wires through it now we're going to strip [19:14] these wires so first we separated them and now we're going to strip each one okay there we go they're all stripped now it's very important that you have the sawn off case threaded through the wires first now we're going to move back [19:27] to the sawn-off and start with the button wire now for the button wires I recommend grabbing your helping hands again first I want to put flux onto the green and blue wire and then I'm going to take my soldering iron and some [19:39] solder and put some solder on these wires again only the blue and green ones gonna thread through the PCB okay we can put this guy off to the side now this next part is going to take some patience so what we're going to be doing is [19:54] green and blue wiring and soldering it to these two pins on the PCB alright so I'm going to cut a little bit of this green wire because a little bit long then I'm also going to I'm going to add some flux to the two parts of the button [20:11] button and I'm going to take the green wire place it on the solder and take the soldering iron and it perfectly went in same thing with the other one put it on the solder take the soldering iron and attach nice and secure perfect alright [20:28] so there is a close-up of what we did we put the wires on the buttons alright now we're going to flip this around then we're going to strip through red one or separate the red one a little bit more alright so this red wire is going to so [20:41] this red wire is gonna go right next to the four pin terminal you just want to thread it through the little tiny hole then bend it back a little bit to keep it in place as you can see the wire is coming out right there so next take some [20:55] flux put it on the wire and the soldering pad and take your soldering iron and solder and put the solder down there's too much wire so I'm going to here's a little close-up the wire went here and then we soldered it in right [21:10] there then finally we have one more thing left to do and that is this black wire right here so this wire is gonna go to go into this pin right here it's the pin that's the or the hole that's closest to the relay we just want to [21:25] stick the black wire into that hole flip the PCB around bend down the wire so it stays in place take some flux put it on the pen take your soldering iron some solder and solder it in there we go the wires again a little bit long so we're [21:38] just gonna take these side cutters and cut the excess off here is a close-up so the wire went right right here and then the soldering is right here alright that is it we've assembled as much as we need to I'm not going to be putting on the [21:52] case and assembling it just yet because we're gonna be flashing taz mota onto the sawn-off so we're going to be able to need to access these pins right here soldered in but if you're not going to be flashing it with as moto firmware [22:06] everything up again since I'm flashing we're gonna need to access this port
