[0:00] what are the most reliable used cars you [0:02] can buy well in this video I'm going to [0:04] tell you car is teamed up with warranty [0:06] wise which is the UK's leading provider [0:08] of aftermarket warranties and they have [0:10] the data from thousands of breakdowns [0:11] and car related problems they analyze [0:13] the data to work out which cars are the [0:15] most and least reliable they record the [0:17] age and mileage of each car they know [0:19] how much they cost to fix and how long [0:21] the repairs took they ignore cars which [0:23] had less than 100 warranty plans to [0:25] ensure a fair sample size and vans are a [0:27] whole separate thing so they've excluded [0:29] those as well well although you will [0:30] find a pickup in this list somewhere all [0:33] the models in warranty wise's data were [0:34] less than 10 years old and none had any [0:36] of their manufacturers official warranty [0:38] left after all you buy an aftermarket [0:41] warranty once the manufacturer's [0:43] warranty has run out they factored all [0:45] this information into a reliability [0:46] index which gives each car a score out [0:49] of 100 the higher the score the more [0:51] reliable the car is so let's get [0:53] cracking with the most reliable used [0:55] cars of 2024 [1:00] in 10th place it's the Mitsubishi ASX it [1:03] scored 85.3 out of 100 if you were [1:06] likely to have problems with one of [1:07] these small SUVs the stats say the most [1:09] likely area would be the suspension the [1:11] average repair bill paid out by warranty [1:13] wise on these cars was [1:15] £755 but the highest bill seen by one of [1:17] these was for an engine problem which [1:19] cost £ [1:21] 3,343 to put right overall though the [1:24] trusty ASX is pretty reliable so it [1:26] deserves 10th place except it's not the [1:29] only car in that slot because the Honda [1:30] CRV also scored 85.3 points in warranty [1:34] wise's reliability index I'm talking [1:36] about the fourth and fifth generation [1:37] cars sold from 2014 onwards they earned [1:40] their top 10 place with an average [1:42] repair cost of just [1:43] £592 which is a little less than the [1:45] Mitsubishi if anything's going to go [1:47] wrong the most likely area is the [1:49] electrical system although the biggest [1:51] baill warrantywise saw for a CRV was for [1:53] a gearbox issue that cost £ [1:56] 2,819 to fix I should add this is the [1:58] most reliable 76 in this top 10 [2:00] Countdown so it's one to depend on if [2:02] you got lots of mates you can't stop [2:04] breeding onto Ninth Place and it's [2:05] another joint billing this time for the [2:07] Volkswagen up and the second generation [2:10] Kia seed both of which scored 87.1 out [2:13] of 100 the little Volkswagen made owner [2:15] sweat with a common air conditioning [2:16] fault and the average repair cost [2:18] according to warranty wise for all up [2:20] issues was £ [2:21] 554 the biggest bill came to £ [2:24] 1,048 which was to mend a faulty fuel [2:26] system overall though small car small [2:28] problems as for the k the biggest [2:30] problem for owners was remembering where [2:32] the apostrophe goes in the name anyway [2:34] they scrap that name beyond that seeds [2:36] racked up an average repair bill of £ [2:38] 612 and the most common problems were [2:40] with the brakes the biggest bill on a [2:42] single car mind you was £ [2:43] 2,450 for a gearbox fault maybe there [2:46] was a rogue apostrophe jammed in it how [2:48] come these cars share the same score [2:49] when the Kia repair costs are higher [2:51] than the Volkswagen well it's because [2:52] the Volkswagen up tended to be newer and [2:54] have fewer miles on them than the Kia [2:56] when they had issues and when you factor [2:58] that into the results warranty wise gave [3:00] both cars the same reliability index [3:02] score onto eighth place which is [3:03] occupied by the Toyota rensus [3:06] specifically the third generation car [3:08] sold between 2015 and 2018 fun fact this [3:11] model has the highest average mileage of [3:13] any car in our top 10 with over 93,000 M [3:17] on average for the cars according to [3:19] warranty wires the most common thought [3:21] with the Avensis was to do with the fuel [3:23] system and the average repair bill was a [3:25] chunky [3:25] £89 but one events sis actually needed [3:28] £1,950 £58 spending on it to fix the [3:31] turbocharger on to seventh place and [3:33] it's another joint billing this time [3:35] between a pair of small cars it's a [3:37] second generation Toyota iGo and the [3:39] third generation Mazda 2 both scoring [3:41] 88.4 out of 100 the iGo is the smaller [3:44] of the two and as you'd expect has the [3:46] smaller bills the average repair cost [3:48] according to warranty wise was £51 and [3:51] the most common issues with the iGo were [3:53] to do with the clutch meanwhile the [3:54] highest Bild that they paid out for on [3:56] an iGo was [3:58] £590 for a problem with the car's [4:00] electrical system for the Mazda the most [4:02] common issues were suspension related [4:03] and the average repair cost worked out [4:05] to [4:06] £63 the highest bill on a Mazda 2 was [4:09] quite a lot more than on the iigo it was [4:11] a fort with one car's fuel system which [4:13] cost a staggering [4:15] 3,636 to put right one reason why the [4:17] Mazda got the same overall score though [4:19] as the Toyota despite having more [4:21] expensive repairs was because the [4:22] repairs took less time to carry out on [4:25] average so the owner's car was off the [4:27] road for less time and this is another [4:29] thing that is factored into the scoring [4:32] index in sixth place is another small [4:34] car the C it me which scored 89 out of [4:36] 100 it also had the lowest average [4:38] repair bill in this top 10 at [4:40] £489 per fix the most common issues were [4:43] to do with the cooling system and the [4:45] heftiest bill ever seen on one of these [4:46] according to warranty wise was only £ [4:49] 1,296 and it was to fix a gearbox [4:51] problem now you might be thinking Al on [4:53] a sec the Volkswagen up is the exact [4:55] same car as the me so how come they [4:57] don't get the same reliability score [4:59] well warranty wise's data show the [5:01] average mileage on the Mii before it had [5:02] any issues was over 68,000 Mi compared [5:05] to 53,000 Mi on average for the up and [5:08] warranty wise also found that there was [5:10] less chance overall of the seat going [5:12] wrong compared to the Volkswagen which [5:14] is why the seat beats the Volkswagen in [5:16] this list if you're changing your car [5:18] then you got to check out car wow [5:20] because there's nothing quite like [5:21] knowing that you're getting a great [5:22] price both when selling your old car and [5:24] finding a new one car makes all the [5:25] stuff that's hard work about car [5:28] changing like the Hagg [5:30] the no [5:32] shows and the nasty surprise is a thing [5:36] of the past life changing now if you [5:38] want to go a car while right now I'll [5:40] put a link in the description of this [5:42] video and the Ping comment alternatively [5:43] you can click on the pop out Banner ping [5:45] in the top right hand on the screen now [5:47] or scan the QR code on screen using your [5:49] mobile phone to go directly there car [5:52] change car wow now we're on to the top [5:54] five and it starts with the Suzuki SX4 [5:57] specifically the second generation model [5:58] sold after 20 4 this car scored 89.3 out [6:02] of 100 making it the most reliable small [6:04] SUV in this rundown according to [6:06] warranty wise the average repair bill on [6:08] an SX4 is £ [6:10] 1,358 and the most common problems [6:12] relating to the cooling system however [6:14] warranty wise did have to pay out £ [6:18] 6,483 to fix an engine problem on one [6:20] particular SX4 now that sounds very [6:22] expensive compared to the other cars on [6:24] this list so why does the SX4 get such a [6:26] high reliability score well one reason [6:28] is that the Suzuki tends to be older [6:30] than most cars before it encounters [6:31] problems and according to warranty wise [6:33] the average age of these cars before [6:34] they needed repairs was almost 9 years [6:37] old that's as high as any car in this [6:39] top 10 list on to fourth place and it's [6:41] another joint billing shared between two [6:44] very different cars the only thing [6:45] they've got in common is that they're [6:46] both Japanese you're pulling a surprise [6:48] face I can tell you you wouldn't expect [6:50] Japanese to do so well in this survey a [6:52] anyway in fourth place we have the [6:54] second and third generation Suzuki Swift [6:56] and the seventh and eighth generation [6:58] Toyota hux made after 2014 these cars [7:01] both scored 89.6 out of 100 in the [7:04] warrantywise reliability index most [7:06] common problems on the Suzuki Swift are [7:08] to do with its air conditioning and the [7:09] average repair bill on the car works out [7:11] to [7:12] £588 according to warrantywise but one [7:14] person out there saw a bill of £ [7:17] 2,411 because something had gone wrong [7:19] with the car's engine presumably [7:20] something quite big even so the little [7:22] Suzuki hatchback has rightly earned its [7:24] impressive fourth place now on to theux [7:26] the only pickup in our top 10 it's a [7:28] bigger and more expensive machine than [7:30] the Suzuki Swift and the average repair [7:31] bill reflects that coming in at £ [7:34] 1,512 the most common problems are with [7:36] the suspension and in one particular [7:38] case sorting a suspension fault cost [7:40] warrantywise £ [7:41] 3,894 to fix now if you're wondering how [7:44] the hux and Swift can occupy the same [7:46] slot when their repair prices are so [7:48] different the answer is that [7:49] statistically the Toyota Hilux went [7:51] wrong less frequently than the Suzuki [7:53] well what do you expect it's a hux after [7:55] all the world's toughest vehicle now [7:57] though we're into the top three and it [7:58] starts with a another Toyota the third [8:00] generation Yaris it scored 91.5 out of [8:03] 100 according to warranty wise the [8:05] average repair bill on one of these [8:07] Toyota Yaris is is £ [8:08] 587 the most common problems relate to [8:11] the car's electrical systems although [8:13] the most expensive Bill to fix a Toyota [8:14] Yaris came to [8:16] 2366 to put a gearbox fault right now [8:19] we're up to the second most reliable car [8:21] according to warranty wise and it is the [8:23] Kia Wenger with a score of 93.6 out of [8:26] 100 the Wenger doesn't seem to go wrong [8:28] very often but if it does the most [8:30] likely issue will be the electrical [8:31] system warranty wise found that the [8:33] average repair bill on a Kia venger was [8:35] £ [8:36] 684 but one person did have an issue [8:38] with their cost steering and it racked [8:40] up a bill of £ [8:43] 2,883 now before I announce the most [8:45] reliable car I want to name check a few [8:47] models that aren't in this top 10 but [8:49] come top in their respective categories [8:51] starting with the most reliable limine [8:54] and it's the Audi A8 specifically the [8:56] third and fourth generation models also [8:58] known as the D4 and 5 in Audi nerd speak [9:01] they scored 59.6 out of 100 so not so [9:04] brilliant really but it's better than [9:06] cars like the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes [9:08] S-Class now the most common problems [9:09] with the Audi A8 are to do with the [9:11] Emissions Control Systems the average [9:13] repair bill on the A8 according to [9:14] warranty wise worked out to [9:17] £1,550 but there was one A8 which had a [9:19] problem with its fuel system that cost a [9:21] staggering £ [9:23] 6,128 to put Right Moving On we come to [9:26] the most reliable sports car and [9:27] surprise surprise it is of course the [9:29] Mazda MX5 as I said at the beginning [9:32] though we're only considering cars under [9:34] 10 years old which means the tail end of [9:36] the third generation NC models and the [9:38] fourth generation ND cars they scored an [9:41] average of 81.5 out of 100 which isn't [9:43] far off what cars in the top 10 are [9:45] getting the average repair bill on those [9:47] MX5 worked out to £ [9:49] 1,4 which is quite High and the most [9:52] common problems related the car [9:54] suspension however one MX5 had problems [9:56] not only with its suspension but a drive [9:58] shaft too and the the total repair bill [10:00] came to [10:02] £351 next up is large Saloon cars and [10:05] Estates and the most reliable in that [10:06] group is the Volvo v90 this car's [10:08] average repair Bill according to [10:10] warranty wise is £ [10:11] 1,120 and the most common problems [10:13] relate to the electrical system however [10:15] in one case a v90 developed a gearbox [10:18] Vault that cost £ [10:20] 5,832 to fix as a result its overall [10:23] score of 65.9 out of 100 was only okay [10:26] finally though we come to the most [10:28] reliable hot hatch and it is the Ford [10:30] Fiesta ST I'm talking about the Sixth [10:32] and Seventh Generation cars here which [10:33] are both absolute crackers to drive and [10:36] you'll more than likely get to enjoy [10:37] them without interruption because they [10:39] scored an impressive 71.5 out of 100 in [10:42] the warrantywise reliability index if [10:44] you're going to have issues with one of [10:45] these cars the most likely area is the [10:47] clutch and if you're getting a bill for [10:49] any issue it'll set you back an average [10:51] of [10:53] 1,297 to fix but brace yourself for this [10:56] one fiester SD had an engine issue so [10:58] severe that it cost [11:01] 9,457 61 to put right anyway now we come [11:05] back to our reliability top 10 and I can [11:08] reveal that the number one car is the [11:10] Suzuki Alto which scored a hugely [11:13] impressive 95.1 out of 100 warrantywise [11:16] did have one case of a gearbox repair [11:18] which cost £ [11:20] 1,584 to fix but on average the repair [11:23] built on a Suzuki Alto came to £ [11:26] 687 and the Really striking thing is [11:28] just how little the Alto goes wrong in [11:30] fact warrantywise has so little data on [11:32] Suzuki Alto problems that there isn't a [11:34] most common problem the data just says [11:37] miscellaneous and I think that says it [11:39] all anyway I hope you enjoyed the video [11:42] if you did give it a like if you want to [11:43] watch some
