Ary and this is everything you need to
know before X-Men 97 season 2. Now we
are not just recapping season 1 of this
incredible show, but we are running
through the original series and all the
details about Magneto Apocalypse and
time travel that will be a part of this
new season. So, let's get started.
Several decades ago, two mutants,
Charles Xavier and Eric Lynch, became
friends, even though they had
differences on how mankind could coexist
with mutants.
>> We must use our special gifts to bring
peace to mankind. You're a fool,
Charles.
>> Eric, a Holocaust survivor, becomes the
super villain Magneto, while Charles
founds a school for mutants and the
superhero team, the X-Men. His first
students are telepath Jean Gray and
Scott Summers. Now, when Scott was a
child, he and his brother, Alex, barely
survived a plane crash that killed his
mother. But his father was kidnapped by
aliens and became the space pirate known
as Corsair, leader of the Star Jammers.
Afterwards, he was raised at an
orphanage that was secretly run by the
super villain Nathan Essex, aka
>> Mr. Sinister.
>> Sinister is actually over a hundred
years old, and his experiments with
genetics have given him shape-shifting
powers, and he is obsessed with the DNA
of Scott Summers and Gan Gray. and from
your offspring, I will control the
future of all human creatures on Earth.
>> Many of the original X team go their
separate ways. Iceman leaves with his
girlfriend Lorna, aka Polaris, while
Warren Worthington III, aka Angel, goes
off to enjoy being rich and doesn't
really want to be a mutant any longer.
They are replaced by new team members
like Wolverine, Gambit, Storm, and
Rogue, who is also raised by the villain
Mystique, and has a secret romantic past
with Magneto.
>> Oh, that's not appropriate. Then a
teenager nicknamed Jubilee manifests
mutant powers, freaking out her foster
parents. So they notify a group called
the Mutant Control Agency. The agency is
actually a front for a sinister
organization controlled by Henry Peter
Guy, who has enlisted a man named
Boliver Tras to build an army of giant
mutant hunting robots called Sentinels.
>> Surrender, mutant.
>> Of course
not.
>> The X-Men save Jubilee from the robots
and then take her in. Then they take out
all the files storing the names of the
registered mutants. However, on the
mission, one team member, Morph,
apparently dies.
>> I'll avenge you, my friend.
I swear it.
>> Magneto reveals himself as a villain and
attacks a military base, but the X-Men
stop him. Reeling from the experience,
some of the team members take a vacation
to Janosha, which turns out to be a
nation that enslaves mutants to help
build Master Mold, a giant sentinel
building robot. With help from the time
traveler Cable
>> my name's Cable.
>> They liberate the slaves and expose
Janosha to the world. Then Warren
Worthington seeks out a clinic on Mure
Island that claims they can cure
mutations, but it is secretly run by an
immortal super villain named Apocalypse.
>> Look upon the future
and tremble.
>> He transforms Warren into his
brainwashed fourth horsemen of the
apocalypse, nicknamed death. Warren,
however, breaks free from the mind
control and swears vengeance on
Apocalypse, who barely escapes the

back to what I was saying. Then we flash
to a not too distant future where the
Sentinels have overrun mankind and the
X-Men are either dead or on the run. The
Inventor Forge creates a time machine
that sends a soldier named Bishop to the
present day where he reveals that Gambit
will assassinate Senator Robert Kelly
and this will lead to their dystopian
future. But the actual assassin turns
out to be the shape-shifting super
villain Mystique. and they prevent the
apocalyptic future. And then Bishop is
sent home.
>> Nothing's changed. It's all just like I
left it.
>> Master Mold comes online and orders the
Sentinels to kidnap world leaders like
Senator Kelly. Magneto and the X-Men
team up to finally destroy Master Mold.
Senator Kelly becomes president. And
then Scott and Gene go off for a retreat
together, but they are being watched by
Mr. Sinister.
>> Sinister knows what your future holds.
>> It turns out that Morph was rescued and
then brainwashed by Mr. Sinister, who
turned him into a villain. However, he
is conflicted. Sinister kidnaps Scott
and Gene and they are rescued by the
X-Men. Meanwhile, Xavier and Magneto are
stranded in the Savage Land, a
prehistoric area hidden in Antarctica.
>> It's a dinosaur.
>> And they are under constant threat of
being captured by Mr. Sinister's forces.
Back in the distant future, Bishop
returns home to find that all is not
well. Although he averted one dystopian
future, now mutants are being wiped out
by a devastating plague. So he returns
to the 1990s to discover that the virus
was actually engineered by Apocalypse.
But when he stops the plague, it
destroys another timeline. These
timelines are so confusing.
>> Thousands of years in the future, Cable
is fighting a war against Apocalypse.
But Bishop's actions cause a time
vortex. So Cable has to travel back in
time, fight Bishop, and then they work
out a way to use Wolverine's antibodies
to cure the plague, and everybody wins.
>> Time travel.
>> The X-Men arrive in the Savage Land to
rescue Magneto and Charles. Then Morph
switches back to the good side and
Cyclops uses his powers to completely
decimate Sinister and turn him into goo
for now. Out in space, the Shar Empire
rules over a vast number of planets and
they're being led by the power mad king
Den. His sister, Deathbird, comes to
Earth to find a crash ship, but this
awakens the power of the Macron crystal,
which basically is super powerful and
can reshape reality. Alandre, the sister
of the mad king, steals a piece of the
Macron crystal and flies to Earth. She
is saved by the X-Men, but Gene has to
pilot a shuttlecraft and appears to
sacrifice her life to save Landre and
the team. However, Gene was actually
possessed by an awesome cosmic entity
called the Phoenix Force, and she
basically becomes the most powerful
person on Earth.
>> I am Phoenix.
>> The Ken sends the Shi Imperial Guard to
Earth to kidnap Landre and bring her
home. So, the X-Men pursue them into
space where they meet Cyclops's father,
Corsair, but neither of them will know
about their connection till later in the
series. Turns out Corsair's group is
fighting against the evil Shi emperor
Den. The Phoenix ultimately saves the
universe by destroying the crystal. And
afterwards, Landre is made queen of the
Shar. Archangel is obsessed with
vengeance against Apocalypse, but has to
learn to let go of his hatred and his
quest for vengeance. At least for now.
>> Don't you know WHAT HE IS? DON'T YOU
KNOW WHAT HE'LL DO?
>> EASY, SUGAR. Iceman returns to the
X-Mansion and asks for help hunting down
his girlfriend, who has disappeared. It
turns out that she is working with a
government sponsored team called
XFactor, which is being led by Cyclops's
brother, Havoc. Their chief engineer is
an old friend of Charles, the mutant
named Forge, who has the power to invent
anything his mind can conceive of. The
Phoenix begins to corrupt Gene, making
her more evil and aggressive.
>> It's hopeless. How can anyone live
possessed by another being? After she is
manipulated into joining the villainous
hellfire club, Gene breaks free from
mind control and becomes the dark
phoenix, an unstoppable cosmic force for
destruction. After she consumes an
entire star system, the shi march her
for death. The X-Men intervene to stop
the shar from executing Gene. They are
sentenced to trial by combat on the blue
area of the moon, where Gene ultimately
sacrifices herself to save the X-Men and
the universe. However, she does later
return, but without the power of the
Phoenix, Magneto builds a mutant
sanctuary called Asteroid M, where he
will rule a mutant society. where any
mutant may live apart from humanity free
from its cruelty.
>> However, one of his acolytes, Fabian
Cortez, betrays him and attempts to
murder him. Magneto returns to the
asteroid, defeats Cortez, and destroys
his base, now abandoning his dream of
creating a mutantonly society. A hyper
advanced sentinel from the future called
Nimrod travels back in time to
assassinate young Charles Xavier.
>> It can't be bargained with. It can't be
reasoned with. It succeeds and creates
an apocalyptic present day where Magneto
leads the X-Men against the forces of
humanity. Wolverine and Storm travel
back in time with Bishop to help prevent
the assassination, but Nimrod stays
behind and attaches himself to a
janitor, which will later cause a
mutation in his son, Bastion. But more
on him later. Next begins an arc titled
Beyond Good and Evil, which is an epic
four-parter that was originally meant to
end this series. In the far future of
Cable's timeline, Apocalypse takes
control of a place called the Axis of
Time, a kind of junction point for all
timelines, and he begins to rewrite the
entire flow of time. He recruits all of
the X-Men villains, including Magneto
and Mr. Sinister, who then helps to
kidnap psychics from across the galaxy.
This interrupts the wedding of Scott and
Gan Gray, who feel like they can never
live a normal life. Then, Bishop's
sister, Shard, arrives in the present
day to guide the X-Men. Warren and
Psylock join the team to help eliminate
Apocalypse while Bishop is stranded at
the Axis of Time and gets help from this
weird little guy.
>> Oh, nothing much. He's just screwing
around with THE WHOLE SPACE-TIME
CONTINUUM.
>> IN THE DISTANT FUTURE, Cable leads an
assault on Apocalypse's rejuvenation
chamber. But when the attack fails, he
travels to the past to work with the
X-Men to attack the same chamber in the
present day.
>> They're going to get temporal pins
movement.
>> This attack also fails. Meanwhile, at
the axis of time, Apocalypse begins his
final plan to rule over all of reality.
>> Recreating the universe in my own image,
a perfect universe, a grateful universe.
>> However, when Magneto learns that
Apocalypse intends to erase all of
realities, he secretly turns against
him. The X-Men along with Magneto,
Archangel, and Cable infiltrate the axis
of time and stop Apocalypse's plans.
Sinister escapes into the time stream
while Apocalypse appears to be
destroyed. It turns out though that the
weird little guy that was helping Bishop
was actually Immortis in disguise. And
Immortis is the future version of the
timetraveling villain King the
Conqueror.
>> I AM KING.
>> And Charles and Magneto seem to be close
to putting aside their differences.
>> Perhaps if we could start the world
over, it would be possible again.
>> Aliens called the Failance invade Earth,
forcing Wolverine, Beast, Magneto,
Cable, and Forge to work together to
save the world.
>> I never thought I'd see the day when we
would all be working together.
Apocalypse is now a bodyless spirit who
inhabits the body of Magneto's former
acolyte, Fabian Cortez. Then on the
recently liberated island of Janosia,
Apocalypse conducts a ceremony to give
himself a new form so he can return.
>> Somehow Palpatine returned.
>> But then Henry Peter Guyrich, the
hatemonger who pioneered the Sentinel
program, assassinates Charles Xavier on
live television. The event sparks mutant
outrage, especially on Janosha, which
has become a haven for mutant society.
Mutants gather on the island and beg
Magneto to lead them in a war against
humanity.
>> Nature has made us superior. This world
is our world now. Take it.
>> However, Xavier is not dead yet. The
X-Men know that the Shar have technology
that can save his life, but they need
Magneto's help in order to summon them.
Magneto is now forced to choose, and he
abandons his war against humanity to
help summon the aliens to save his best
friend's life.
I am proud of you all, my X-Men.
So, one year goes by with the world
believing that Charles Xavier is dead,
and this has ushered in an era of good
feelings between mutants and humans.
Cyclops is leading the X-Men, and Gene
is 9 months pregnant with their son.
Privately, though, they begin to wonder
if it's time for them to move on from
the team and start a new life together.
The team rescues a teenage mutant named
Roberto Dcasta from anti-mutant humans
who have been adapting sentinel
technology.
>> No, don't. I surrender.
>> Not.
>> And this leads to the X-Men
interrogating Guy to find out where
these sentinels are.
>> Tolerance is extinction. But when Gene
touches his mind, she sees disturbing
visions. But with the information they
gather, they're able to track down a new
Master Mold and its creator, Boliviver
Tras. They defeat Master Mold and return
home to discover that Charles has left
his mansion and leadership of the team
to their old enemy, Magneto.
>> My X-Men.
>> Magneto works to turn over a new leaf as
the leader of the X-Men, but he is
arrested by the UN for all of his past
crimes. While he is standing trial, Gene
goes into labor at a local hospital
where the human doctors refuse to treat
her.
>> I'll show you a C-section B. Meanwhile,
protesters stormed the UN with part of
the team helping to stem the riot until
an assassin with a gun that's adapted
from a power dampening collar penetrates
the assembly, trying to shoot Magneto,
but instead robs Storm of her powers.
>> The breeze is gone. I cannot feel it,
nor the moisture, nor the air.
>> In a fit of rage, Magneto raises the
judge's panel high above Earth to give
an impassion speech about the value of
working together. that this is a shared
world with a common future and that my
kind like yours have the right to live
in it.
>> But then he ends with a threatening
plea.
>> Do not make me let you down.
>> Afterwards, a woman who looks exactly
like Gan Gray appears on their doorstep.
After conducting extensive tests, Beast
confirms that the woman on the doorstep
is actually the original Gan Gray and
the gene who gave birth to Nathan is a
clone.
>> I'm the original. So, the process was a
success.
>> Furthermore, he can tell that Mr.
Sinister is the creator of the clone.
Then, clone Jean's mind suddenly flips
and she is under Sinister's control when
she attacks the X-Men. The real Gene
tries to fight her off, but she delivers
baby Nathan to the super villain, Mr.
Sinister. Sinister's plan is to create a
genetically superior child with the DNA
of Scott and Gene, but then expose it to
a technoorganic virus to strengthen its
DNA even further. Sinister was likely
exposing Nathan to it in the hopes of
making him invincible.
So, Clone Gene fights the X-Men, but
overcomes Sinister's control long enough
to save baby Nathan. However, Sinister
has infected Nathan with this virus, and
he will die. Bishop then offers to take
the baby into the future, where his
advanced technology can save his life.
Clone Gene leaves the team and gives
herself a new name.
>> Call me Meline Prior.
>> While Storm also leaves the team to cope
with not having powers, Jubilee and
Roberto want to celebrate her 18th
birthday, but instead they are pulled
into another dimension called Mojo
World. It is run by a mega maniacal
villain who is always chasing higher
ratings.
>> They want entertainment.
>> He makes Jubilee run through video game
levels of her past before they are saved
by an older version of herself from the
simulation. And then she and Roberto
escape together and make out.
>> Meanwhile, Storm meets Forge who offers
to attempt to restore her powers. The
two of them begin to have a romantic
interest in one another until Forge
reveals that he was partially
responsible for creating the weapon that
robbed her of her powers. This dramatic
moment is interrupted though when a
demon arrives and attacks Forge. Months
go by and Magneto is invited to the
island of Janosha, which has become a
safe haven for mutants and the UN is
about to recognize it as an official
nation. Reporter Trish Tilby is at the
exion interviewing the team for a fluff
piece while Scott is still coping with
losing his son. I gave him up because
you can't say thank you. Because I have
to stomach your questions and prove that
I'm a person.
>> Jean also discovers that Scott and
Meline are having secret intimate
meetings via telepathy and this strain
starts to hurt their relationship. She
even kisses Wolverine.
>> You're Jean Gray. He's Scott Summers.
Those are the rules.
>> Jean shares a psychic report with
Meline, so she has all of her memories,
but Scott is not sure which of them he
actually loves.
>> This is brilliant, but I like this.
Meanwhile, on Janosha, Magneto is
offered a seat on the ruling council and
accepts only if Rogue will join him. In
a tearful scene, she tells Gambit about
her secret past relationship with
Magneto and says that she is going to
join him.
>> The mutants have a grand gala and Cable
shows up to warn that something awful is
about to happen. And then Meline touches
his mind and realizes that this is her
long-lost son, Nathan, from the future.
Then the party becomes a catastrophe
when a giant kaiju sized sentinel
attacks. Magneto then leads the fight,
but he is presumably killed defending
the Morlocks. Rogue is ready to die to
win the fight, but she is saved by
Gambit, who then sacrifices his life to
save the island.
>> Remember it.
>> And afterwards,
>> you know what happens when I touch
somebody? You want to end up in the
hospital.
>> I need a minute.
>> Gambit loves you.
>> Rogue is finally able to touch him.
I can't feel you.
>> Moving away from that, Storm and Forge
are able to fend off the demon's
influence over them while Storm has to
overcome her fear of close places to get
a rare plant to save Forge's life.
Facing her fears and her trauma restores
her powers. But then she sees Janosha on
the news and knows that she has to
rejoin the team. Meanwhile, in space,
Charles has been cured and he has fallen
in love with Landre, Queen of the Shar.
>> To the might and glory of the Imperium.
However, the racist colonizing Shi
empire doesn't take well to having their
new emperor be a human. So, Deathbird
demands that Charles erase all memories
of Earth and the X-Men from his own
mind. Charles chooses another way to
educate the Shar that colonialism is
stupid. But the psychic classroom is
interrupted by visions of Janosha, and
he decides to return home.
>> It is time I return to my X-Men.
>> The X-Men bury Gambit and are still
reeling from the aftermath of Janosha.
Nightcrawler has joined the team,
helping them dig Meline's body out of
the rubble. While Rogue tries to hunt
down the people responsible, Roberto and
Jubilee return to his home where his
wealthy mother admits that she always
knew he was a mutant. But she still
wants him to keep his abilities a
secret.
>> Have you tried not being a mutant?
>> The X-Men successfully hunt down Bolivar
Tras, but after Rogue throws him off a
building, he is resurrected as a living
sentinel.
>> What in the name of all heaven?
>> It turns out that someone else has been
behind all of these events. This
somebody killed Guy, and he's holding
Magneto captive. And his name is
Bastion. He was born as a mutant with
Nimrod's advanced technology attached to
his body, giving him the abilities of a
technopath to control machines. And he
has a plan to end mutant kind. Cable
returns to explain what's at stake. In
the future, Bastion builds an army of
humanoid sentinels, and mankind is
enslaved to build a human utopia.
>> So, another dystopia where Logan's the
last to die. Cable has tried to prevent
this future, but we learned that Janosha
is what's called an absolute point in
time that can never be altered. More
importantly, it's revealed that he is
actually Scott and Jean's son, Nathan
from the distant future, although he's
got a chip on his shoulder about this at
first.
>> A couple centuries late in the
overprotective dad bit, huh?
>> Both of you, stop it.
>> All around the world, the Sentinels are
activated and the divided X-Men fight
them off on several fronts. The
Sentinels wreck the X-Mansion and Cable
begins to accept his long-lost family.
Let's show these toasters why you don't
screw at the summers.
>> It turns out that Mr. Sinister has been
working for Bastion to help create these
organic sentinels. And Bastion also has
the support of the world's governments.
However, UN worker Val Cooper has a
change of heart and frees Magneto from
Bastion's jail because she has a
realization.
>> Magneto was right.
>> Enough.
>> Magneto goes into space, resurrecting
his base, Asteroid M, and knocks out all
of the electronics on planet Earth.
temporarily shutting down the Organic
Sentinels. Charles then returns to Earth
and finds that the X-Men resent his
absence and that he gave control of the
team to a super villain.
>> Well, you were wrong.
>> Magneto then arrives at the X-Manssion
and offers the team a choice to defect
and join his war against humanity. And
Rogue and Sunspot accept his offer.
Beast and Forge create a power dampener
to defeat Bastion. And they decide to
fight a war on two fronts. One team will
take out Magneto while the other fights
off Bastion.
>> Am I going to war or a circus? What' you
expect? Black leather
>> on Asteroid M. Magneto lashes out
against Wolverine, ripping the
adamanthium from his body and forcing
Charles to shut down his mind and enter
Magneto's psyche. So, this reactivates
all the electronics on Earth and unlocks
all of the organic sentinels, just as
Mr. Sinister takes control of Cable and
forces him to fight Gene. Bastion helped
his army of Sentinels attack all over
Earth and announces his plans to control
every world government.
>> Tolerance is extinction.
Then when all seems lost, Gene calls on
the power of the phoenix to burn the
mutant DNA out of Sinister, making him
look his age.
>> And just die already.
Die.
>> And then she places the dampener on
Bastion, which ends his control of the
organic sentinels. But Bastion will not
accept defeat. He rips off Cable's arm,
hits him with it a little bit, and then
uses it to evolve into a higher form.
His new plan is to hurl Asteroid M at
Earth to destroy everyone on the planet.
>> They stole IT FROM ME, CARMINE. THEY
TOOK IT. THAT WAS TODAY. TODAY
>> IN SPACE, the X-Men fight off Bastion
while the world governments decide to
send nuclear weapons to destroy Asteroid
M.
>> New gun.
>> This plan fails. Asteroid M is still
falling to Earth and it's soon to be
destroyed. But then Scott tries to
reason with Bastion, explaining that,
hey, you're a mutant just like us.
>> You're not alone.
>> But Bastion would rather destroy the
world than admit who he really is.
Bastion disappears in an explosion, but
Asteroid M is still hurtling toward
Earth. So, the X-Men decide to sacrifice
themselves to save the world. So, Scott
and Jean share one last telepathic
conversation with their son.
>> They're good eyes.
>> And now they're yours.
I love you, son.
>> This whole time, Charles has been inside
Magneto's mind where they finally come
to an understanding and decide to work
together.
>> A dream that made us a family. And like
that dream, any family worth having is
worth fighting for. Eric wakes up, helps
the X-Men stop the asteroid, but then
everyone mysteriously disappears. 6
months later, Bishop arrives at the
X-Mansion to tell Forge that the X-Men
are lost in time. Then we see 3,000
years in the past that rogue
Nightcrawler Xavier and Magneto arrive
in ancient Egypt to encounter a young
apocalypse.
>> My name is N Sabanor.
Thousands of years in the future, Scott
and Gene meet young Nathan while in the
present day, Apocalypse visits the ashes
of Janosha and digs one of Gambit's
playing cards out of the Rebel.
>> So much death.
