# How to Optimize Your YouTube Videos for Maximum Views

> Source: [How to Optimize Your YouTube Videos for Maximum Views](https://youtube.com/watch?v=k-6NOuL_J4s)

## Summary

Ed explains why most YouTube creators fail to grow: they don't optimize for 'audience interest size.' He introduces a system to find high-demand topics, repackage a sample video, and demonstrates tools like One of 10 to identify outliers and craft better titles and thumbnails.

### Key Points

- **Core Problem: Audience Interest Size** [00:00] — Creators overestimate interest in their niche. The Super Bowl example shows how a huge event in the US has little interest elsewhere. Similarly, creators make content for experts, not the broader audience.
- **Super Bowl System Overview** [02:30] — Four stages: 1) Find outliers (videos with 10x+ average views), 2) Analyze outlier titles, 3) Create 3 title options, 4) Design thumbnail and launch.
- **Common Packaging Mistakes** [05:00] — Title too long (>50 chars), random capitals, over-designed thumbnails (gradients, strokes, glows), poor hierarchy/contrast, too many words (19 in example).
- **Finding Outliers: Old Way** [08:30] — Search YouTube for topic (e.g., 'lose weight'), scroll for videos with significantly higher views than channel average, screenshot and collect in a vision board (e.g., Milillo).
- **Finding Outliers: New Way (One of 10)** [11:00] — Sponsored tool that filters videos by multiplier (e.g., 10x average views), subscriber count, median views. Creates a bank of outliers with titles and outlier numbers.
- **Ranking Topics by Demand** [15:00] — For the sample video, demand ranking: losing weight > losing belly fat > quitting sugar > getting lean > why you're fat. The original title started with the least interesting topic.
- **Creating New Titles from Outliers** [18:00] — Copy 5-10 outlier titles, combine elements to create 3 new titles. Example: 'Science-backed ways to go from 30 to 10% body fat' (50 chars).
- **Thumbnail Design from Outlier Patterns** [21:00] — Screenshot 3-6 outlier thumbnails, identify common elements (before/after, percentages, 'never do this'). Apply to new thumbnail. Use Thumbs Up TV to preview.
- **Getting Feedback and Finalizing** [24:00] — Share thumbnail options with target audience. Feedback revealed before/after didn't work due to poor photo angles. Final thumbnail used AI to create a believable before image.
- **Q&A Highlights** [27:00] — Advice for niche with bad packaging: go one wider (e.g., guitar → drums). For underperforming videos, change title/thumbnail but invest time in new videos. Use sans-serif fonts (Montserrat, Roboto).

### Conclusion

The key to growing a YouTube channel is packaging videos for the largest possible audience interest size, validated by outlier data. Use the Super Bowl system to find high-demand topics, craft simple titles, and design thumbnails that pass the '2-second test.'

## Transcript

hello everyone thank you for coming to this live and if you're watching it as a video in the future hope the future is nice anyway let's crack on with this okay so the reason that most YouTube creators don't grow their channels is because they don't optimize their videos for views now I'm not talking about Tags I'm not talking about search I'm not talking about SEO any of that stuff what I'm talking about is optimizing your videos for something known as audience interest size so today what I'm going to do is I am going to show you how to harness audience interest size I'm going to show you how to come up with ideas that are better than 99% of YouTubers I'm going to show the old slower way to come up with ideas the newer faster way and I'm going to talk you through some common design mistakes that ruin your ideas packaging because your idea your thumbnail and your title they're like brothers and sisters they're very closely related and at the end for those of you guys who are in the Q&A who are here live we'll have a bit of a Q&A session first let me let me just check my sound we're looking good all right so who the heck are you I'm Ed I help I help educational and information based YouTube channels grow their followings and their business and I do stuff like this uh I also recently helped a very small group of YouTubers launch their first product and they followed a system and they generated between $900 and $36,000 in just seven days and I have a giant community of YouTube creators Educators and information based channels who have taught thumbnail design strategy pack in lighting and they throw their thumbnails into our feedback Community me me and my team give them feedback and we help turn them into things like this from before and after and they produce beautiful images like this and get results like this and the reason that matters is because I spend all day every day basically talking to YouTube creators I get to see what works and what doesn't and then I get to pass that data on to other creators and that's what I'm going to pass on to some of you guys today a system that's going to help you guys get more views so let's start with what even is audience interest size so we'll begin with the problem actually now there's a problem you have that you can't see as a Creator and it all comes down to the Super Bowl so last week in the states the Super Bowl was on and I imagine when the Super Bowl is going on in the US maybe the two weeks that run up to it it's just Carnage everyone's talking about the Super Bowl night and day the players are on TV there's adverts there's sponsorship the whole of the in the whole of America goes crazy through it right and what happens is audience interest size blows up and spikes so you see this red this red is the audience interest size let's say last week of the Super Bowl and this gray this is audience uh this is the population of the USA now meanwhile in the rest of the world we don't even know the Super Bowl is going on so I don't know the name of the players I don't know the name of the teams I don't I don't even know who won all I know is that Taylor Swift had a beer at the Super Bowl and everyone went crazy and in Australia South Africa United Kingdom Japan Taylor Swift had significantly more interest than the Super Bowl in terms of search interest on Google but what the heck has this got to do of YouTube well when you are an educator you are very close to your topic you spend night and day thinking about it planning content researching it making videos about it you probably hang around with other people who are interested in it and one means is it feels like the whole world is just as interested in the topic as you are but in truth there's not there's beginners there's experts there's intermediates there's all kinds of people but you as a YouTube probably one of the most interested people in the world in your topic and the trap we fall into is making content for other people like us not making content for the Taylor Swift fans out there and finding ways to make our topics interesting to as many people possible who we want to appeal to so whenever you make a YouTube video the first thing you need to ask yourself is this what's the actual amount of audience interest size for this topic and then you need to work out well what that audience size is how the heck could you do that well I call it the Super Bowl system I named it yesterday I Was preparing this and there's four different stages to it and I'm going to walk you through these four stages I've also created a planning system for you guys to do this at home and we're going to go through this on a document and you can download this from the link below and you're going to be able to fill out each step for every video you make now and hopefully optimize your videos for audience interest size every time using it so I'm quite excited about that all right now in order to show you how to run this system I asked the subscribers of my email list to send me their videos to repackage so I've chosen a Creator here and we're going to put his video which isn't very well optimized for audience interest size through the system remake the thumbnail remake the title and turn it into something that can achieve more views than the way they've packaged it and this is the video we're going to work on so before I kind of get onto this system what I really want to show you is just some common design mistakes with the thumbnail and the title that are going to hold this video back anyway and you guys more than welcome to play along at home see if you can guess them but the first one we've got title issues so you can probably see this the title has random capital letters the how and the sugars and the efforts to get lean and so on and then the why you're fat they all have capitals really what we want to do is we want to cap we want to capitalize or put capitals just on the first letter and then leave the rest lowercase or have a capital at the the first letter of every letter and it will just read easier so that's a small problem the big problem is how long this title is It's too long we need to keep titles under 50 characters for two reasons firstly it's quicker for people to read them and that's good secondly things get cut off and this title will get cut off in certain places in YouTube especially to get lean and you're going to see in a minute why that is such a big problem so what I've done to this title just to really simplify it is I split it in two I made why you're fat and then I made how sugars sabotage your efforts to get lean and you can kind of see straight away right like these two videos look like they're going to stand a way better chance on YouTube Just because they're simpler and simplicity is really key here the next mistake we've got is over design so if you hire designers on fivera in particular they love to use these sort of like elaborate font Styles and they don't do any good to your thumbnails so this one in particular it's got this like white at the top of the letter of uh they and then it goes down to gray it's called a gradient it's very slight it just makes the text Messier to read and then there's clutter of this orange stroke around the text to know this and again that's over complicating this and there's a glow behind it so there's just too much going on with the text the next problem is kind of similar but it's known as hierarchy and contrast so when you're designing a thumbnail you need to think about what is the most interesting thing in the image to the audience think about audience interest size well the most interesting thing to the audience here right is the transformation of this guy's body but the designers has covered it up with all the text but not only that we've got a very high point of contrast behind so you see this white square and I've put a red X on on it contrast pulls our eye to it and that is a white block next to a dark background so that's a very high point of contrast in this image so our eyes are naturally drawn to it not the result so when you're designing your thumbnails think about what you want to stick out and here it would just simply be by making this background a bit darker and getting rid of that the body would have popped more the next problem is kind of similar to the first one and it's just all down to speed of uptake so there's 19 words in this thumbnail and title including the little Dash which I know isn't a word but it takes about 2 seconds to read it and when you are on the homepage which is what this is all about optimizing videos for the homepage in particular it's just too slow you're competing against all these other creators we've got to get information uptake much faster so that's why these shorter titles work so much better and we want to kind of think about reducing text uh the amount of text we use too there's just too much going on and then finally the big problem here is audience interest size which is what this is all about so optimize this video for views and increase the audience interest size and the first step of doing this is by working out demand for the topic you want to talk about the thing is what is the topic of this video now I'm going to ask you guys in the chat to throw in some ideas here but there is a bit of a problem and that problem is well to me there is potentially four different topics this video could be about so these are what I think they are getting lean sugar weight loss and then why you're fat now the problem with having four potential topics in a video is that well they could all be different levels of interest to different people but it's kind of confusing right so that's a problem and we're going to have to fix that but we're going to keep that in mind for the first step of optimizing this for views and now let's look at how we do that so the first step to work out a topic that is highly in demand is to find something called outliers so an outlier is a video on YouTube that gets significantly more views than the average of that channel but also kind of like the average for the niche so let me give you an example if a Creator is getting 10,000 views per video and then one of them gets a million that's an outlier if a Creator is getting 100,000 views per video and then gets a million that's an outlier and the reason that outliers are so important are is because we need to work out why they worked and they're an absolute gold mine for creators so the more outliers we find the more we can analyze them and the more data we can bring from those videos back to our channel so finding outliers is critical for success but how do you find outliers well the first way is to research the topic and now what I'm going to show you is the old-fashioned way and I'm going to show you the new way this is the way I'm using all my YouTube Nerdy buddies are using and we're kind of obsessing over it cuz it's so flipping good but I'm going to start with the old way because I want to show you a few different options to do this and this is just one of many ways by the way so this is how you are going to find topics the first thing we're going to do is we are going to head over to YouTube search and we're just going to type in the name of our topic so I've put in lose weight which was one of our topics for this video and I'm just going to scroll down and I'm going to look for videos that are may be outliers so I'm going to ignore that one cuz it's a bit old I'm going to keep going until I find something that looks like the kind of video I want to make and we keep going the annoying thing about this is it can take a while um all right so like beer biceps how to lose weight fast at home I'm going to click on it it's quite a let's just have a look and see what the average views are okay the average views are about 300,000 so what I would say is that's an outlier and then I would screenshot that and move on and find it again and I do this for the whole topic and then I'm going to try what was our other topic getting lean I'm going to look for that next so we're going to go over here type in getting lean ah this is looking better so I can see here how to get lean and stay lean let's click on Jeff Channel we can see his average videos getting about 1.5 million views maybe yeah kind of around that so this video has four so I'd say that's a bit of an outlow it's like a 4X so I'm going to screenshot that this is a 10 million view video about getting lean so I'm just going to go through and screenshot all these videos about getting lean that use the words getting lean and what we're looking for is just to establish audience interest size here and then what I would do is the same thing again so I'd do it with sugar this time now this time I'm not going to put sugar it's too broad so I'm going to say quitting sugar so quitting sugar and then I'm going to have another look is this an outlier for this channel average views oh they jump around a lot kind of an outlier for them so I'm going to say yeah screenshot it save it and I'm going to repeat this over and over again and then what I'm going to do is I'm going to use a vision board so this is some software called milillo you don't have to use anything like this you could just use a Google doc maybe and you just drag those screenshots in here and we're going to create a bank which we're then going to dive deeper on in a second and you can see see we've got getting lean ideally we want more than these this I'm not I was doing this yesterday I didn't have time to go and find like 50 but we've got losing weight and then we have why you're fat and you're going to see why this is empty in a second which is a bit of a problem so that's the old kind of slow way of doing this the new way and you might have seen this software blowing up at the moment because everyone seems to be using it is this it's called one of 10 now I do need to disclose these guys are sponsoring this stream but I have been using it for quite a while now and I'm flipping loving it so I'm going to show you how to use it to save you a heck of a lot of time so the whole point of this software is to find outliers that's literally all it does and what we'll do is we'll type in let's type in what was my topic let's say lose weight that's not the tool this is I'm going to say lose weight right and then I'm going to C this filters this is the Smart bit so this is the multiplier so I'm going to slide this up to 10 what that means is it's only going to show me videos about losing weight that have 10 times the average views of that channel now what I'm going to do is I'm going to bring median views down a bit because what we want to do is we don't want to make the search too General but we don't want to make it too specific if it's too General we'll start to bring in videos outside of the niche and if it's too specific won't bring in enough so I'm going to say the I'm going to leave the medium views quite low I'm going to put that around there this one's F so if you bring down the subscriber count we could say only show me Channels with under 50,000 subscribers what happens is smaller channels take more risks and their videos can blow up and what that means is smaller channels often have a bank of outliers on them which we can learn from but I'm not going to do that I'm going to I'm going to say because the fitness Niche is so big I'm going to say let's search between one and 4 mil and then I'm going to say only show me outliers over 200k 300K in the last year let's hit changes and see what happens now you might have to tweet this and play around with it a little bit but I'm going to search I'm just going to adjust the settings a little bit cuz I think I have probably seen slightly better oh let's change this to losing weight here we are okay so now what we see is all these outliers we see this one here 400x so it's got 400 times the average views of that channel which is insane that is a video we need to instantly look at to work out why because this is really appealing to a lot of people so what I'm going to do is hit bookmark and then I'm going to type in here like losing weight uh hit enter and that's going to create a bank so now what we do is we just go through the list of outliers and we have a look and see which ones kind of look relevant to the content we want to make so this one looks good an 11x a million views bookmark lose weight and then I'm going to go down again I'll call like the look of this one 300,000 it's maybe not the biggest outlier for him a 10x so I'm going to add it lose weight and then let's see if we can find some [Music] more oh this one's great as well a 64x so it's basically just giving us all of the best videos on YouTube to learn from so then we would do it again so let's say quitting sugar come in here and we can start to look and I'd probably adjust the filters on this CU it's a slightly different Niche different niches are going to have different filter size to play around with it's good fun playing with it and sometimes you find some stuff that uh isn't even in your Niche that you could totally use so and type in quitting sugar and here we are we've got more outliers that are relevant this one's a 27x this is a been gold mine so what you end up doing is you end up coming up with topic Banks like this so if we look back at our topics getting lean sugar losing weight while you're fat we've got all these and now when I click on it boom we've got our vision board our titles and the outlier number next to them so this is just incredibly powerful so once we've done that what we then need to do is work out which topic we think we want to make our video about and because we're all about views right now we're just going to make a video that is all about the topic that has the most demand so well which topic has most demand well I did spend some time researching this yesterday and I kind of made this little chart and this is what I think the demand size on YouTube looks like for each of these topics losing weight was absolutely massive it's such a big topic so that's the biggest one getting lean do you know what still a very big topic but there weren't that many videos on getting lean there were lots on losing weight which is basically the same thing but words really matter on YouTube and how you present those words so you're potentially going to limit your views if you use getting lean versus losing weight potentially quitting sugar was huge and then this is the sad bit no interest in why you're fat at all we'll come back to that in a minute so that's the first stage of our system we just need to work out what is the most in demand topic for our idea and I kind of ranked them like this losing weight losing belly fat quitting sugar getting lean and why you're fat now losing belly fat wasn't on his original video but I noticed as a pattern these videos are getting so many views so it just made sense to add it to my potential topic list now what we need to do is go to the next part of our system and we need to work out a title to make and ideally the most interesting title to the most people so that we can get the most views can you see the problem so if our topic size that was of most interest was losing weight and the one with almost no interest was why you're fat this title is just not optimized for views because it's starting with why you're fat the least interesting thing out of everything I could find efforts to get lean which did actually have a lot of interest even though it was one of the least interesting in terms of views on YouTube is getting cut off because the title's too long so really only how sugar sabotage your efforts is there now quitting sugar is a big Niche and it's a big topic sorry but if this was just about losing weight or quitting sugar or losing belly fat we could have spoken about the same content inside this video we just would have packaged it in a way that was optimized for views and a much larger audience so the next step of our plan is we got to come up with a new title so what we do is we go and find five to 10 outlier titles that are going to suit your topic or idea so I'm going to go back to one of 10 if you've done it on a board you can um if you've done it on your board you'll go to the board I'm going to go to one out of 10 cu it's got better data and I'm going to go and look at losing weight because I think that's the video I want to make and now what I'm going to do is I'm just going to copy these titles just something that I think look good so this is a 18x outlier I'm going to add it to my sheet without all the link and then what I'm going to do is I'm going to go to this one looks good A 20x and then I'm going to go back again and I'm just going to keep 1 million views 11x yeah the easiest way to lose belly so I'm going to go through this I'm also GNA I'm not going to say no I'm not going to talk about not quitting sugar I'm going to go look at these guys as well and I'm going to copy some titles here and what I'm going to do is just build up a bank of about 10 because what I tend to find with YouTube is it gets really overwhelming if there's too many options so what I like to do is say look we've got our big Bank of outliers we know that if we are going to make videos around these topics they're way more likely to perform let's just trust that data and come out of a list of 10 which we can then dive deeper on so that's your next task after that all we want to do is create three titles from these 10 and we do that by taking bits of them and piecing them together so what I'm going to do is I'm going to say scienced backed ways to go from 30 to 10% body fat so the original title was the fastest way to go from 30 to 10% body fat and I also noticed that based on science was getting lots of views and I've studied this Niche before I know that science-based content does well so I'm just going to combine them science-based here and then I'm just going to check the length because it might be a bit long 50 bang on 50 we're good everything shows this one I took from here so this was originally called you'll never want sugar again after watching this I just called it never want sugar again after this I don't feel like we needed the word watching and then 15 simple ways to lose weight in two weeks I just changed to five easy ways to lose weight in two weeks so what we've got now is three potential titles which are optimized for a larger viewer interest size and validated by outliers of titles that have already performed formed so it's starting to look much better and what I've done is I've added these titles to his thumbnail so you can see straight away just you should be able to look at these now and already want to click on it more so five simple ways to lose weight in 2 weeks science back ways to go from 30% to 10% and you'll never want sugar again after this this is looking so much better already and now I'm going to have a think okay I'm maybe going to make one of these which one do I think would appeal to the most people if that is the goal at the moment and we're assuming it is so I kind of ranked them in my head I was like do you know what never wanting sugar again after this that's got to have the widest appeal like a 15-year-old could watch that a 90-year-old could watch that if we want a really wide audience that's probably the one I'd go for then we've got in the middle science back ways to go from 30 to 10% now there's still going to be a lot of interest by that because I've seen a validated video with 4 million views on the topic but you need the viewers need to understand what 30% body fat is and what 10% is if they don't know that 10% is all ripped with an i six pack it's going to go over their head so it makes the audience size smaller and then we have five simple ways to lose weight in 2 weeks which is also a really big audience I don't really think you can lose with this but what we've got over the top is the top title is the most General the one in the middle is the more for uh enthusiasts and specific and the bottom one is probably for people who are just starting their Journey so we've got different audiences having different levels of Interest size here so we're just going to stick with that and then what we're going to do is we're going to work out how to make a thumbnail for this thing and that's the next part of our sheet so what are we going to do is it's the same sort of thing to avoid overwhelm I'm going to go to one of 10 I'm going to go to Loser weight and I'm going to scroll down have a look and I'm just going to screenshot a few thumbnails that are on outliers that I think look good now I kind of know the rules of thumbnails and so on so I can see some of them are breaking them here so I'm just going to click on ones that I think are following the right kind of rules and and this one looks good and I'm going to screenshot 3 to six for exactly the same reason as before because I don't want you guys getting overwhelming because this this is an overwhelming task when you've been doing this kind of thing for a while you can look at all this data and spot things straight away but most most people can't so I think this will simplify it and then just put them into your document so what we can do here is start to pull out elements from our outlier bank now one other little call trick we can actually dive into before we do that is when we find an outlier we can click on find similar and then we go in and look boom it starts showing us all these other similar videos and that's a pretty cool feature as well you can really go deep and get stuck in this but back to this so what I'm going to do is I'm just going to look at these thumbnails and ask myself let me zoom in for you guys I can't zoom in what are the elements of this thumbnail and why are they doing so well so what I've written is all of them have before and after comparison style so that's that's the reason I think they might be doing well the text never do this could be helping don't do this is here 93% appears in the title here in the title here in the text there sorry and in the title here and there's more percentages here so percentages that looks like something I should maybe include and then the fastest way up here although I don't feel like the fastest way is that great but I'm going to write it down anyway and then what I'm going to do is I'm just going to think about these titles I've got and how I could use those text and patterns from them in these titles so the before and after I might say this title science back ways to go from 30 to 10% I'm going to make it before and after the one about never wanting sugar again I might have never do this in 93% don't do this and then this one here I might have the fastest way and these aren't to say this is what the design is going to end up like but we're just going to play around with these ideas and then what we need to go and do is go and make this this packaging so just keep in mind when it comes to packaging try and keep things simple like there's loads of really fancy thumbnails on YouTube and they take a lot of time and effort I think most people would be better just simplifying things back and keeping designs as easy as possible and it would stop them falling into kind of the common mistakes everyone falls into so I went and created the packaging and let's go back to milillo and have a quick look at uh where was it here and I came up with these ideas now I don't have much to work with here I only had the photos from Mel's Channel that I could use so I wouldn't necessarily used these photos but let me zoom in for you guys what I've done is I've made some simple before and afters that harness the things that worked in those other thumbnails and titles and put them together it doesn't take long to change the color red to yellow and what I do is I use a tool called thumbs up TV so I drag my image in here I put the title and you can see the thumbnail and title of this live stream you're watching right now screenshot that put it on my vision board and we have this lovely bird's eye view and now we get a better idea we can start to see okay which one would I click on which one would the audience I'm interested click on and that's where we will then start to think about picking something so we've created our packaging the next thing you really need to do is so remember I said at the start how in America when the Super Bowl is on it probably feels like the whole world's interested and that as YouTube creators we're too close to our topic to maybe understand real levels of interest but also see mistakes so one thing that you guys really need to get into the Habit on is trying to get feedback from other YouTubers or people or it could be anyone really ideally your avatars on your thumbnails so that they can say this is the one I'd click on why so I've threw mine rough examples into my thumbnail community and what came back was really interesting so people said they'd vote they'd click on one and five and two and two and five and two so I get all this data but what it came down to was that most people thought this thumbnail was the best with the guy facing the camera and with this title you'll never want sugar again but Eric came out with this amazing feedback he said this I think you'll probably agree with this it's hard for me to tell the difference in the before and after of the V1 style because he's facing two different directions it almost looks like no flexing versus flexing and good lighting so thumbnail 2 and five work so from this feedback what I established was the one that wasn't a before and after which actually all of the outliers were telling us to make was the better option because the photo wasn't taken in the right way of the before so don't laugh I I didn't have images of him so I had to go to Ai and make him fat uh and I thought well let's if let's pretend I did have images of him uh before so I I photoshopped him it's a bit more overweight and now we can look at it okay maybe this is the sort of Direction I'd go in and this is kind of the Moment of Truth the final part of our system where all we go and do is pick a winner and launch the thing and where's my thing onone for me I don't know which one you guys would go for it be interested and I'm not saying going make this thumbnail exactly like this this is just a demo of course but I actually feel like this one here it's very simple it's it's got a clear result which is the sixpack it's intriguing because it says 93% don't do this we know 93% is an interesting number and you'll never want sugar again after this is appealing to a wider audience what you would then do and this is why making your thumbnail and Title First is so important is design the entire video around this packaging which is why it's much harder to repackage older videos and if you watch my last live stream which is still up on the channel that will teach you how to go from this point on to then write an entire script around your packageing and that kind of brings us to the end of the system so what I'm going to do now guys for those of you who are in the chat fire in a few questions and I'll take some answers and whilst I'm doing that I'm just going to show you another little feature of one 10 that's pretty cool this is a free Chrome extension they have and it shows you outliers there's a link to it in the description by the way it shows you outliers on channels so we can go on Mt devel and be like boom a 10 a 10x outlier and just scan individual channels to see what they've got this is free and by the way there is a 20% discount using the code on the main software in my description probably should mentioned that earlier sorry about that all right so let's jump over to the uh questions now and let's see what people have keep them packaging related or idea related if possible and I'll see if I can get to the bottom of them uh the issue with before and after is people already know the beginning and end so there less likely to care about the journey uh no that's not true the there's not an issue before and after the payoff which you're assuming is people want to know how he lost you're assuming is the six-pack the payoff is how did that happen that's what they want to know excuse me just coughing everywhere uh so I think the Live's a little behind still let me just see if the questions are coming through bear with me guys how can this be done for a podcast about fertility issues where you get doctors and guests talking about their stories all right so you do exactly the same thing what you want to be looking for is you want to be going on YouTube and analyzing channels that talk about medical issues not just volatility issues because it's going to be too small so go a bit wider you can look at channels like Dr Mike you can look at huum any anyone who talks about anything that relates to health and then you would look at their outliers and do the same thing build up a big bank and then look at the words look at the titles and try and take what works from them and apply them to your own content so it works for every Niche this is what pretty much every channel in the world is a professional YouTube Creator is doing or a version of this um what other questions have we got here see if we can find a good one what's the best free thumbnail design software I honestly only recommend Photoshop um to me I would upgrade Photoshop over editing software because the things you can do with it to get a click are so powerful otherwise people tend to use canva but I'm not a fan I would pay the $8 a month for the Photoshop because it's it's so much more impactful um do you have any insights when AB testing do you know or when AB testing will be available to anyone I believe it's this year at some point I think they're just rolling it out slowly so everyone's going to be getting split testing pretty soon apparently the link to the Chrome extension doesn't work in that case just Google 1 out of 10 Chrome extension I don't know why it's working I'll change it after the stream could changing a title too many times after upload hurt your views uh well yes and no so it if you change a title and YouTube picks it up and then it starts pushing it to more people because it's seeing that the content's getting a better reaction you you wouldn't want to change it you would just let it sit so it would only hurt a video if it was suddenly getting more views and you changed it to something that wasn't as good otherwise you could change it a million times it's not going to do anything I just wouldn't recommend doing that change the title let it sit for a while and then see what happens before you make your decision but there'll be no sort of damage at all how would you adapt this for a niche with atrocious packaging and production value an entire Niche with with bad production and packaging um I would just do exactly what I just showed you I would be thinking about photos design to level up the quality but oh I see what you're saying so the niche is okay so what you're saying is if you're trying to research the niche with bad packaging how do you get better ideas well what you would do is you would go to The Wider Niche so let me explain if you were a guitar Channel and let's just say all the guitar channels had B thumbnails and titles go to the drumming Niche and see what they've got because they're very kind of closely related so take the outliers from there and then relate them to guitars or music production so go one step wider and that's actually a good question Maurice CU there are quite a lot of niches where the packaging and the ideation not great so always go one wider and then you can actually go to the widest Niche too which is kind of like self-help and just general education and you can still find patterns and outliers that work there and bring them back to your content but I've only showed you how to do it within your Niche today uh as a new I had a video perform well for my size and the following video flopped should I repeat the success or keep trying new stuff well the reason that it would have flopped is because you might have packaged it or come up with an idea that wasn't that interesting to the new audience you'd started to build the People YouTube tested it with new people so you might want to just look at your old video and ask well why based on everything I've shown you today ask yourself was there actually real interest in this put it through the system and try to work that out but yeah it's always smart to just repeat what already worked so if a video did well make another version slightly different slightly different thumbnail and title uh and and put some different information in it what analytics is the most important views it's kind of it really look you can get really caught up with click through rate and watch time and all this stuff the way YouTube works is a high click fre rate isn't necessarily a good thing could be a bad thing it's all to do with who's seen the video so YouTube pushes your video to a new audience and they don't click it it's going to shut it down but it might push it to an audience that is enjoying it so the click for rate goes up but the views don't increase much because it's only pushing it to one audience type so the best metric is just views uh the Google Doc I was using there's just a link to it um in the description are there any circumstances where you'd recommend using any AI to help with ideas yeah I use AI a lot for this it's a bit deep um but you can take data and analyze it in AI um I don't want to BG people down with this right now the other thing that you can do that's kind of useful for is you can put in titles and maybe get it to make some suggestions but talk to it pretend it's a coach and be like why wouldn't you click on this video you know is there any reason my audience is um let's say my audience is interested in hockey is there any reason people interested in hockey might not click on this but the other AI stuff's a little bit Advanced I don't want to overwhelm people with that because the foundational stuff that I've been showing you today is more important um you look like CM Punk to me I get that a lot thanks for that um do you use the research Tab and audience tab for IDE ideation I find the research tab uses no I literally just do exactly what I've showed you today uh there's different variations of this so this is one version so I use one out of 10 to try and establish topics and outliers and patterns um the search method I showed you on YouTube is part of a method I would use but really what I've just showed you is pretty much what I do time and time again how do you determine what's an outlier on your own channel well looking your channel and if your average video gets 1,000 views and one got 10,000 that's kind of it so if you got average views is 1,000 and your next video got 2000s not really an outlier just a bit better we want to be finding things that have got like significantly more views if possible but there's different multiples obviously a channel that always gets 5 million views if that gets a video of 10 it's only double the amount of views but i' probably still look at that as an outlier just because the sheer volume of views was crazy but in smaller channels I probably wouldn't class a 2,000 view vide as an outlier if the Channel's average was one can you give an example hello Meadow can you give an example of how to start on one of 10 if you're not sure what to search for just basic keywords okay so you can actually use this in so many different ways I've only given you guys a brief overview today in their tutorial section there's tons of tutorials showing you how to use it it's really good but what I do is sometimes I just type in a title of a video sometimes I type in a general topic sometimes I type in a slightly less General one so in your Niche for example um I would probably start off with something just like narcissists just write that generally uh then I'd try something like how to spot a narcissist but you when you find it click on the button that says find more like these and it's going to widen the search it's one of these things that you can get really lost in when you've been going a lot deeper so start general and kind of Niche down so leis you're getting videos outside your Niche on of 10 so the adjust the filters so that they become a little bit more specific basically so you've probably got you're probably searching for videos that have got up to like 400 million views like bring that down to like 2 million or something like that uh and then bring the subscriber size up and down and just play around with it and you'll start to get more but if you depends if you've just searched crypto um or and if you've searched Ripple or crypto or how specific you've gone just play around with different words in there hello Sim if I make a one-off video that's a wild card for my channel will this negatively affect the next video that's normal for my Niche if so how to mitigate this okay so if you make a video for your channel if I make a oneoff video that's a wild card so when you say wild card do you mean you've gone and made something that isn't necessarily of interest to your existing audience or the audience you want to grow or do you mean you've just taken a risk and made something more creative they're interested in if you make a video that's going to bring in the wrong type of audience then potentially the next time you release a video YouTube's going to test it with them first and they might not click on it so I've had videos blow up that have brought in the wrong audience and then the next video tanked and it felt like it took a bit longer for that video to then find the Right audience again so sometimes it happens uh in terms of mitigating this you just want to keep making a videos for the audience that you want to attract if you want to go one step wider this is often where people try to go broader and they they struggle for a bit it might take a while to break out but unless you've uh made something that's going to bring the wrong people I wouldn't worry too much uh you can hit me up in Discord by the way want more chat on that recommend changing the Fone title for an underperforming video and how long would you give it a chance to work uh depends on benchmarks uh let me give think of the simplest answer for this in day one I'd probably be more aggressive with my changes just based Bas on if I didn't think it was doing as well with the kind of people that YouTube impressed it to straight away give it Impressions with sorry straight away over time I slow things down because changes take longer so now if I go back and change the F TT old video I'll leave it a few weeks I don't expect it to move and you might see an initial uptick and click through it and a few more views but it's usually just the people that YouTube are testing it with doesn't necessarily break out to a new audience so what I would ask you is where are you better investing your time work working on new videos or working on Old thumbnails and titles I don't have the answer for you but that's one thing to think about and I'd probably never test more than a few at a time just to see what works because if you change loads and none of them work you've wasted a lot of time if you change two or three and one works then you can go and take that information and change some other thumbnails and apply it to new videos too what are your thought this is a good question what are your thoughts on developing your own style with packaging versus copying other successful YouTubers how do you balance that so at the moment the packaging industry is pretty stale the thumbnail packaging industry um everyone's copying each other and that's kind of because it's frustrating as hell but it's like it's just people just do what works over and over again and it works over and over again if you can be the person that comes up with a new Innovative style that breaks out then everyone will copy you anyway so you just end up in the same situation what I do is so me and James Kelly spent month trying to come up with a new style and when I launched the video we put the new style on First and within the first few hours we'd be like nah this don't work and then we flip it to the old style that always worked and same thing happen so we spent quite a long time trying to come new thumbnail Styles so you're you're just taking more risk if you look at what worked on other channels and then you do what I did today and take one thing from one video and apply it to another and then use your own fonts and colors you'll end up with something that looks a little bit unique anyway but I would would probably say it depends on your appetite for risk and I would encourage you to do more of what works than try and make every video unique that's a big crap people fall into they're always trying to make thumbnails and titles that look radically different to everyone else and if you don't have the skill to do that it's just never going to work so it tends to backfire all right last question let see what we got um any common fonts you would recommend for readability on thumbnails yeah so monserat robot or Roboto Poppins I quite like um what I would recommend is use Sans serif fonts rather than serif so serif is like the old school type that you would see in newspapers when computer screens came along that sort of font wasn't as easy to read so Sans serif was developed which are kind of thicker Bolder more curvy fonts so any kind of sans serif font is usually good but just make them clear and easy to understand uh and the live streaming software I'm using right now is called ecam all right guys thank you very much I hope this has been useful do check out one out of 10 uh if you want that planner it's also in the link below and I'll fix the link so you guys can get the extension I'll do that straight away take care guys have a great day night evening wherever the heck you are
