[00:01] on a new video in 24 hours and i struggle if i don't post another video are going to plummet a ton because christmas is coming and that happens youtube less views equals less money and less than desirable christmas gifts [00:18] [Music] so all i've got to do to fix this is to blow up a new video i mean how hard can that be so to blow up in this time frame in the context of my own channel i need to get more than 17 703 views on a new [00:33] video because that would be my previous personal best but that would be tough because well i've been trying to do that for more than three months now but i've got a plan and the first step of this plan was to work out why my previous [00:45] best ever video did so well on release which was called youtube mistakes that not only did it get a higher click-through rate but it got over 100 percent more engagement in each of these key areas compared to this video it's [01:01] previous best performing video in a 24 hour time period so all i've got to do is to get my new video to beat those benchmarks and to do that i need to this is what causes people to like and share and comment [01:18] release otherwise this whole thing is doing so i've got two options my first option is to come up with a completely new title and idea that has incredible potential easy or my second option is just to look at a title that's worked [01:32] well already and adapt it so i went with the latter and decided to make a new version of my previous personal bests title i wrote about 15 different i wouldn't say i was crazy about this but i figure if i can come up with a [01:45] probably give my previous best video some stiff competition longer come up with thumbnails on my own in fact three of us brainstorm them every week this is j alto he's a thumbnail expert i work with and this is [02:00] tyler tyler works for me and is an up and coming youtube pro together we brainstormed the thumbnail concept for about an hour until tyler came up with this genius idea so if the first mistake in the video you talk about is quitting [02:13] blowing up and then point an arrow right before they do saying don't quit i think i've seen cody wanna do that shows this graph of his growth we could try and thumbnail and after a lot of different tweaks and arrows and shadows this is [02:29] tweaks and arrows and shadows this is what we came up with key points one of the first things i always do is write down my comment goals what i want people to write in the comments after they watch the video and [02:44] what it does is if i read my plan and my script back and i think nobody in their right mind would say that i keep working on it until i think i'll get that reaction it's a great way to eliminate the that'll do attitude that holds [02:56] youtubers back and i went big with them and chose this is the most entertaining educational youtube video i've ever watched and this is the best video you've ever made the next part of the plan was to simply write the five points [03:09] i wanted to make in the video and then i had to work out how to turn those points into a fun story my previous best performing video used the theme of time travel to communicate ideas and it was a clear hit in the comments so i decided [03:22] to do something similar but this time cross dimensions in a giant trash can so that's the story sorted now i need to add another level to this and this is what i try to do is to figure out how to make my avatars not just enjoy [03:36] this video but feel something so that they hit comment share or like and one this is to harness the reaction that referencing popular music films tv shows and even sound effects has on people so let me give you an example very early on [03:50] i'm going to use this effect and sound from back to the future because that will make people feel nostalgic i've also added more characters like kylo ren also added more characters like kylo ren from star wars [04:04] [Music] well the good news is it's raining so wheelie bin that's filthy with a pressure washer that's filthy with a pressure washer smells like fire but like rotten fire [04:23] was gone it was time to set up the kit to film could only use the room until 5 pm and it was now 11 30 a.m my plan was to film [04:39] characters in it first and that meant i needed to create this clone effect you can see on screen right now naturally i decided my first clone would speak decided my first clone would speak spanish which meant i had to learn [04:59] quite easy to pull off you just film clone one and two and make sure you never move your camera then in the edit you stack clone two on top of clone one had to get changed into different outfits always making sure i never [05:12] knocked the camera because it would ruin the clone effect which naturally i decided to place right in the way of the door i needed to walk past all day every time i film new characters i had to run upstairs to put the clips into my [05:25] editing software to ensure each time it worked in and out of the bin up and down the stairs until 5 pm came and i'd not filmed half of the video [Music] i set up to film again and i got off to [05:40] a flying start when i dressed up as a new character and applied what i thought was my girlfriend's eyeliner so i've just found out this is not an eyeliner it's like a black glue fake eyelashes now i can't get it off my [05:54] fake eyelashes now i can't get it off my eyes which is it was a constant struggle until six hours later i moved on to my final character for some reason the face paint didn't [06:08] seem to do anything so i put on more and more and ended up looking like a sweaty orange mess and it just wouldn't dry even after an hour well i just remembered why did i bother putting face paint on because you can just do this i [06:22] can isolate my skin just pump up the saturation no need for face paint so hopefully done all the filming um knowing me i won't i'll have to go back and film loads unfortunately i was right [06:35] [Music] i had two days left to launch and a two-day edit minimum and so long as everything went smoothly i'd make it on everything went smoothly i'd make it on time [06:47] suddenly find that half of the video sound is really quiet i can try and turn it up but when i do it adds tons of hiss it sounds awful and i don't need to hop dimensions because i can show you exactly what's happening [07:06] i'm not very good with it so right now i've got two options option one i can film like half the video again or i can see if i can fix this to a point with the latter option [Music] [07:25] i can't believe this so the video is almost done and i've just started there's a flipping continuity error i would leave them but i can hear the smarmy comments now you think you're a pro what a loser [07:38] go and do more filming which means i've got get the bin out and there's trash in then the kylo ren scene wasn't working either so i've got film more there a be that hard to pull off it's become a complete flipping nightmare exhausted i [07:54] had only two hours left to film edit and publish the video because i have to release them before 3 30 pm otherwise i get way less views it's always the same posting one second later would not be an option [08:22] actually a bit sick so i went to chill out for half an hour let's see how this is done it's got nearly 2 000 views in like [08:39] it's got nearly 2 000 views in like 40 minutes [Music] so that's what we're rocking and it did not slow down but not only that the comment goals i'd written came in fast [08:55] too this is the most entertaining educational youtube video god that was seen in fact everything i'd planned from the characters the sound effect the more likes comments and shares and create an emotional reaction did just [09:09] that and it absolutely destroyed my previous personal bests first 24 hour performance over 200 more comments 40 more shares 100 more end screen clicks more shares 100 more end screen clicks 400 more likes 40 oh less subscribers [09:24] 400 more likes 40 oh less subscribers and 6 000 more views for seven days i running up and down stairs and sticking my eyelids together with glue but did it blow up no in terms of youtube channels who get [09:38] millions of views on release it did not blow up but in terms of my own channel yeah it did it annihilated my previous personal best which is what matters yourself on this platform and looking back it's obvious as to why it did so [09:51] well because all i did was take what i already knew my viewers were interested in and then built on that and really that's what youtube is about trying to understand your viewers and then ensuring that each new video you release [10:03] is always more interesting to them but how do you understand your viewers like this well i made a workshop for that and the links in the description it'll teach and if you're not interested in that then at least make sure you don't make [10:15] the mistakes in this video here because they'll really hold your channel back even more than not doing my workshop oh and it's also the video you just oh and it's also the video you just watched the making of
