[0:00] hi I'm Mary U and as you may know V [0:03] models are notorious for needing to be [0:05] separated in parts and layers often [0:07] hundreds of them but today that 40 layer [0:10] limit in PR crate is not going to stop [0:11] me from achieving greatness and it will [0:13] not stop you either I'm showcasing some [0:16] of my recent models that I drew with [0:18] procreate and rig and live 2D I have [0:20] been a loyal procreate user since the [0:23] beginning of my aring career all my [0:25] models are drawn completely in prr never [0:27] changed even at the toughest times never [0:30] doubted you want te my G so if I can do [0:32] it you can also create models of this [0:35] quality and I will show you how the [0:37] general solution is to sever your model [0:39] into Parts usually two to five files [0:42] export them as psds then piece them [0:44] together at the end on the computer [0:46] using Photoshop or Clips paint I'll show [0:49] you the complete process and things you [0:51] need to look out for please watch until [0:53] the end because there is one big common [0:55] problem with exporting psds from [0:58] procreate if this is your first try [1:00] making VOR models I recommend starting [1:02] off with a chibi or a half body model to [1:04] keep things easier and to get familiar [1:06] with the overall workflow [1:10] first okay let's start with per cre [1:13] setup when you first create a canvas [1:15] preferably make the width more than [1:17] 3,000 and the length according to your [1:19] character's height I usually give myself [1:21] 4 to 5,000 but try to have more than 10 [1:24] layers available then go to settings [1:27] canvas toggle drawing guide edit drawing [1:31] guide and go to Symmetry and done now [1:35] your current layer should stay assisted [1:37] and everything you draw is symmetrical [1:39] you can go back to settings and toggle [1:41] off the drawing guide to get rid of the [1:43] line and as long as your layer still [1:45] says assisted it's still going to be [1:47] symmetrical but when you make a new [1:49] layer normally you have to turn on and [1:51] off the cyst by clicking on the layer [1:54] but I find it much more practical to [1:56] make this button a shortcut so to do [1:58] that go in settings preps gesture [2:01] controls and in assisted drawing turn on [2:05] the first tap Square setting and it [2:08] might conflict with your default [2:09] shortcut but screw whichever shortcut [2:11] you previously had and now that this [2:13] button is drawing assist you can sketch [2:15] your model out way easier hopefully I'm [2:19] going to put my sketch time lapse as [2:21] examples it's just a sketch but try to [2:24] include all the details and colors you [2:26] need this is because it will be much [2:28] harder to adjust these things later on [2:30] while seeing how the entire model looks [2:33] since your model will be severed when [2:35] you're done with your sketch you can [2:37] merge all the layers by pinching them [2:39] together I mean if you want to preserve [2:41] them you can duplicate your file but [2:43] before we move on I found out that life [2:46] 2D actually desaturates the PSD exported [2:49] from procreate by like 10% so I'm going [2:52] to turn the saturation up in the sketch [2:55] beforehand to compensate for that and [2:58] since everything's one layer it's it's [2:59] easier to do color adjustments and this [3:01] was my final color adjustment and to [3:04] move on to the detailed model going to [3:06] duplicate my file just going to one of [3:09] them and going to crop tojust the [3:15] head and I can turn on snapping to [3:18] center it and crop out all the empty [3:20] space to save more layers similarly if [3:24] you want to move onto the body or legs [3:26] just duplicate the original sketch and [3:28] then crop to get more layers now for the [3:30] reference layers I duplicated to have [3:33] two one on low opacity and one on 100% [3:36] opacity the lower one is for tracing and [3:38] the higher one for color picking so I'm [3:41] going to demonstrate I'm going to make [3:42] some new layers turn on our assisted [3:45] with our short cut and you can watch me [3:47] struggle with line art I do find that my [3:49] line art looks very pixelated a lot of [3:52] times you can turn on anti- aazing in [3:54] your brush settings find a smoother [3:57] brush or make the canvas bigger but I [3:59] just Incorporated it with my sketchy art [4:00] style my first tip is that lufy is your [4:04] best friend is my best friend anyway and [4:07] once you have an enclosed line art you [4:09] can go to select in [4:12] automatic click the outside of the line [4:15] art hold and drag left and right to [4:17] adjust the threshold and to further [4:19] avoid the type of overfilled [4:22] border we can click on feather and have [4:25] around [4:26] 3% and click invert then go into layers [4:30] make a new layer underneath toggle on [4:32] the 100% reference layer hold to pick [4:35] the color turn it off and then color [4:37] drop on our current layer when you color [4:40] drop don't let go and then hold to drag [4:42] left and right for the threshold again [4:44] that's what the feather is for and [4:46] utilize your appropriate shortcuts like [4:48] if I want to Alpha lock this layer I can [4:51] swipe to the right with two fingers on [4:53] the layer and now I can change the color [4:55] of my line art without the color [4:57] spilling outside [5:00] also I have this life-saving hair brush [5:03] Auto line art that I'm going to upload [5:05] along with my whole favorite brush set [5:07] on COI for free Link in the description [5:09] most brushes are not created by me I [5:11] just stole them from different free [5:12] brush sets Okay so the way you use this [5:15] brush is that first you draw the hair [5:17] out it's going to be white don't worry [5:20] okay then duplicate the layer so swipe [5:23] left on the layer and duplicate set the [5:26] top layer mode to multiply Alpha lock [5:28] the bottom layer [5:31] and color pick the color you want color [5:33] it in and just continue rendering on the [5:36] same layer now I usually do all the [5:39] shading [5:41] everything oh but one thing to note is [5:43] that the outline brush doesn't work if [5:45] the color you pick is completely black [5:48] yeah but just choose a color that's [5:49] close to it there is so much potential [5:52] with this brush if you're not that py on [5:54] line art consistency I also love the [5:57] fact that you can lufy multiple layers [5:59] together together by swiping right on [6:01] the layer to select multiple and if your [6:03] primary layer which is the one in the [6:05] deeper blue is assisted then your [6:07] liquify is also going to be assisted if [6:10] not then it's not going to be [6:14] assisted when you're done the hair [6:16] layers you can merge those together and [6:18] I'm going to teach you a quick Shadow [6:20] trick which is to duplicate the layer [6:22] select the bottom one go to adjustments [6:25] Hue saturation brightness lower the [6:27] brightness to none [6:29] click on the cursor to select your layer [6:31] move it downwards then go to adjustments [6:35] CAU and blur swipe left and right to [6:38] adjust the blur then go to adjustments [6:40] curves and I usually just turn the red [6:44] up then I can Alpha lock the layer turn [6:47] the opacity down select a bluish color [6:52] and airbrush it on the shadow to give it [6:54] a secondary color for like a cooler [6:57] sense of depth okay it's hard to [7:00] visualize on my balding head so these [7:02] are actual examples of how my bangs [7:05] would turn out using this [7:06] method also if I want to separate these [7:09] two hair strands I can just select swipe [7:12] down with three fingers select cut and [7:15] paste it's really nice quick menu [7:18] shortcut so let's say if I move on to [7:21] the body I would want a copy of my [7:24] rendered head on top of it so that I can [7:26] visualize everything better but I don't [7:28] want to save my severed head as a PNG in [7:31] my album so I can import it into my [7:33] other file so I can just go to actions [7:36] copy canvas go back to my body file and [7:39] I can paste and there it is my head also [7:43] turn on snapping magnetics so that your [7:46] parts move in a straight line and now [7:49] that you have all the tools and [7:50] shortcuts you can continue drawing the [7:52] model I have a cutting guide for you to [7:54] follow some general tips for the art is [7:57] that first try to avoid es pointing [8:00] outwards they're going to look like [8:02] their gaze is not focused and then [8:04] second I recommend drawing some extra [8:07] hair layers on the sides at the back and [8:09] covering the forehead just so that [8:11] there's more volume when rigging and you [8:13] know so that your character doesn't [8:14] accidentally look Bold and the last one [8:17] I found out recently is underfills so [8:19] it's basically instead of line art you [8:21] have a solid color it's great for chest [8:25] torso and hair to give that 3D outline [8:28] disappearing effect if interested you [8:30] can look more into this from other [8:31] artist and riggers they explain it more [8:34] in detail than I do so last thing when [8:37] you're exporting when you're done [8:39] everything you named all your layers [8:41] you've grouped everything into proper [8:43] folders you still need to separate left [8:45] eye to right eye and all the symmetrical [8:48] but non-connected Parts you can separate [8:50] these later in Photoshop but I will just [8:53] go in and select half the face erase a [8:56] half of it because I can just copy paste [8:58] it and flip it in live 2D in fact if [9:01] you're plenty of layers away from your [9:03] layer limit you can even just duplicate [9:05] the folder and flip it in [9:08] procreate so now to export you can go to [9:12] actions a share PSD I'm just uploading [9:15] it onto drive you can also upload [9:17] multiple psds at the same time by going [9:20] back to gallery and click select select [9:22] your psds and Click Share so there's one [9:25] last big important thing it's like a bug [9:28] when you open and exported PSD from [9:31] procreate in life 2D it has this [9:34] invisible border around all the layers [9:36] like right now it's supposed to show me [9:38] the layer's boundaries right but it's [9:40] showing me the whole canvas and that [9:42] will mess up the auto matching by a lot [9:44] because it will not be able to give a [9:46] very detailed mesh and the solution to [9:49] this problem is just to crop your PSD in [9:52] Photoshop or Clips you to a paint so I [9:55] can crop the whole canvas outwards and [9:57] it'll still work technically if you're [9:59] assembling a full body you'll need to [10:01] extend the canvas anyway and the problem [10:03] is fixed so remember never send the raw [10:07] PSD from procreate and crop to a riger [10:09] with the Border because it will mess up [10:11] Auto meshing and trust me I have been [10:13] there in pain and confusion also if your [10:16] PSC does not open in live 2D there is a [10:18] manual page that I recommend you search [10:20] up so yeah now that the art is completed [10:24] if you want to rig the model I got a [10:25] full step-by-step tutorial and if you [10:28] have any questions this discussions and [10:30] want to share your art feel free to join [10:31] my Discord server and I wish you get to [10:34] create the YouTuber of your dreams
