[0:00] Are you maximizing your YouTube video [0:02] description box? Because it's a powerful [0:06] tool. And if you're not putting anything [0:07] in the description or you're just [0:08] copying and pasting random things in [0:10] there, this video is going to walk you [0:12] through what you should put in there, [0:14] how you should structure it, in what [0:15] order you should place those things in [0:17] your description box so that you can get [0:19] maximum results and grow your channel [0:21] faster via the YouTube description box. [0:24] If that sounds good to you, stick [0:25] around. [0:29] Okay. So, let's start by walking through [0:30] a basic explanation or structural [0:33] outline for your description box. Like [0:35] what goes at the top, what goes at the [0:37] middle, what goes at the bottom, right? [0:38] Okay. So, the first thing you want to [0:40] have in your description box is an [0:41] attentiongrabbing first sentence. And I [0:44] recommend having AI write this for you. [0:47] And the reason I recommend having AI [0:49] write it for you is because you want it [0:50] to be very rich with SEO keywords that [0:54] will help YouTube algorithm to [0:56] understand what this video is about and [0:58] who it's targeting. And the reason I say [1:00] use AI like chat GPT, Gemini, Claude, [1:03] AI, whatever to write this is so that it [1:06] sounds human. But the reason I say this [1:08] is because if you're trying to think of [1:10] all the SEO keywords that you could pack [1:12] in that first sentence and make it [1:13] interesting, it's going to be very [1:15] difficult to write that sentence. But if [1:16] you have AI write that, it can create a [1:19] very rich SEO keyword sentence that [1:22] sounds human and makes sense. It's not [1:24] just a bunch of keywords one after the [1:26] other. So that's what I recommend. So [1:27] the first part of your description box [1:30] should be one sentence that's grabbing [1:33] attention and that's saying what this [1:34] video is about and who it can help. And [1:37] there's this thing called above the fold [1:40] on YouTube in the description box. So [1:42] when someone is looking at your video, [1:44] they see a little bit of characters like [1:47] a one sentence, then it says click more [1:49] to see the rest of the description, [1:51] right? So they can watch your video and [1:52] they see that little, you know, one-s [1:54] sentence description and then they start [1:55] to see the comments below it. And so the [1:57] point of paying attention to the above [1:59] the fold is that if you have any lead [2:02] magnets, links to your coaching, links [2:04] to your book, links to your courses, [2:07] whatever it is, something that you want [2:09] this person to to click on once they [2:12] watch your videos, you want to have that [2:13] above the fold. And so you'll have that [2:15] one-s sentence description about the [2:17] video rich with keywords. Then after [2:20] that, you will list your lead magnet. So [2:22] grab your guide here link. And the [2:26] reason why we do it this way is so that [2:28] if they're watching the video, that link [2:30] will be shown and in your video you're [2:32] talking about grab my guide below, [2:34] they'll see that link without having to [2:36] open up the description box. So it'll be [2:38] visible on the underneath the video [2:40] without having to do any extra work. So [2:43] that is a really great place. However, I [2:45] do not recommend starting with that link [2:47] or just having all your links, you know, [2:50] grab your guide, here's how to work with [2:51] me, all these and there's like three [2:53] links and there's nothing else. I [2:54] wouldn't recommend that at all. I would [2:56] recommend that you do the one sentence [2:58] rich with keywords and then have a plug [3:00] for whatever lead magnet you want with a [3:01] little bit of link. And then when they [3:04] open up the description box and can see [3:06] the full description box, that's where [3:07] we start to put more things in there. [3:09] So, for example, the first sentence [3:11] might be, "Want to skyrocket your [3:13] YouTube views? Watch this." Then you [3:15] say, "Grab your free guide clickable [3:18] link." That's all you do for the very [3:20] first part of the description. Next, [3:21] you'll want to provide a summary of the [3:23] video. It could be bullet points. It [3:25] could be just another few sentences, but [3:27] you really want it to be rich with [3:28] keywords and also to explain what more [3:31] they will get in the video beyond that [3:32] one attentiongrabbing sentence. So, for [3:35] example, in this video, you'll learn all [3:38] about SEO and keywords for growing your [3:40] YouTube channel. In addition, we'll also [3:43] talk about basic strategy for succeeding [3:46] on YouTube or something like that, [3:47] right? So, it's a a small little [3:48] description about the video itself and [3:50] what they'll get inside the video. Now, [3:52] there's two camps on this as well. Some [3:54] people say don't give it all away [3:56] because then they won't watch the video. [3:58] I say give enough away so that you can [4:01] include a lot of key words in the [4:03] description like written in sentences, [4:05] not just keyword stuffing. Do not [4:07] keyword stuff your description. That is [4:09] not looked highly upon through YouTube. [4:11] Um, but create a few sentences about the [4:13] video. And then after the description, [4:15] it's helpful to add timestamps. So you [4:18] want to create like little chapters [4:19] about what the video is about. That's [4:21] very helpful for people when they're [4:22] scanning your video to see if they want [4:24] to continue watching. So if they don't [4:26] know what to expect, they might stop [4:28] watching because they don't know what to [4:30] expect and they don't want to waste [4:31] their time. But if you create chapters, [4:33] they can skim through and see what each [4:34] chapter is and either jump to the [4:36] chapters that interest them or if [4:38] they're on a chapter that doesn't [4:39] interest them, they could skip to the [4:40] next one. But that way you won't lose [4:42] them at if you didn't have chapters. [4:44] Because if you didn't have chapters, [4:45] someone might come to your video and [4:46] they're like, "Oh, they're talking about [4:47] affiliate links. I don't really care [4:48] about affiliate links. Maybe I don't [4:49] care about the rest of the stuff they're [4:50] talking about because I don't know what [4:51] the rest of the stuff there is going to [4:52] be talking about because I don't know [4:53] what the other stuff is that they're [4:55] going to be talking about. So, I think [4:57] um it's better to put chapters in than [4:59] to not put them in. Some people believe [5:01] that if you put chapters in, people will [5:03] just skip to the parts they want to [5:04] watch and watch it and leave. But in my [5:06] opinion, at least they're watching those [5:08] parts that they want to watch, right? [5:09] ando as opposed to coming into your [5:11] video and leaving right away. So, at [5:12] least it gives them the option to jump [5:14] around if they want to jump around [5:16] versus just jumping out of your video. [5:18] So, that's why I recommend doing [5:19] chapters after the description box. Now, [5:22] sometimes I put the chapters at the very [5:25] bottom or near the bottom of my [5:26] description box because I want to put [5:29] closer to the top how to work with me. I [5:31] want to put like a call to action right [5:32] after the description. So sometimes [5:34] you'll see in my descriptions that I [5:36] just put the chapters listed near the [5:38] bottom of the description box because if [5:40] you scroll over the video, you can see [5:42] there's those chapters and when you [5:44] scroll over it and you hover over it [5:45] with your cursor, it will say what that [5:47] chapter is about anyway. So they don't [5:49] need to actually see it explicitly [5:51] written in front of them. They don't [5:52] need to see like the table of contents. [5:54] They can just scan the video themselves [5:56] and see what those different chapters [5:58] are about. Which leads me to the next [6:00] spot or section of the YouTube [6:02] description of your video, and that is a [6:04] call to action. You want to have a [6:06] clear, strong call to action. On my [6:08] channel, it usually says, "Work with [6:10] me." And then underneath it links to my [6:13] website, which allows people to contact [6:14] me for coaching, joining my mentorship [6:17] program, or buying my course. So, you [6:19] want to have a really clear call to [6:21] action as the next step in your YouTube [6:23] description. Below that call to action, [6:25] you can then have all the resources that [6:27] you want to list or anything you [6:29] mentioned in the video. For example, if [6:31] you mentioned a certain YouTuber, if you [6:33] mentioned a certain product, if you [6:35] mentioned another YouTube video, [6:37] whatever you mentioned in the video that [6:38] you need to explicitly show or tell in [6:40] the description, I would put that in [6:42] this spot. Now, so if you're offering [6:44] free tools, free guides, uh affiliate [6:46] link things like TubeBuddy or Vid IQ or [6:50] or um maybe you offering like you have a [6:53] finance channel, so you have like a [6:54] budget calculator link or maybe you're a [6:57] dog groomer, so you have all your [6:59] recommended dog grooming tools that [7:00] people can click on to get access to [7:02] those and purchase those with your [7:04] affiliate link. Whatever resources that [7:06] you want to provide your viewers, that's [7:08] what I would put below your call to [7:10] action. And below that, I would put any [7:11] of your social media links and your [7:13] contact information if people want to [7:15] contact and reach out to you directly. I [7:18] personally do not leave my email in the [7:20] description box because I know that my [7:22] email is listed in my description of my [7:25] YouTube channel so people can find it [7:27] there if they want to. However, at the [7:29] bottom of the description box of the [7:31] video, it's a good place to put all your [7:32] social media handles or any other ways [7:34] that they can get in contact with you or [7:36] other resources like your website or [7:38] things like that. Below that, I would [7:40] put a disclaimer that hey, if you click [7:42] on any of the links below, I may receive [7:44] a small commission based on the fact [7:47] that they are affiliate links or however [7:48] you want to say it. So, for example, a [7:50] disclaimer could be some of the links [7:52] above are affiliate links and I will [7:54] earn a small commission from those at no [7:56] extra cost to you. That way, people are [7:59] fully aware that if they click on those [8:00] links that you might earn a small [8:02] commission from those links. And below [8:03] that, I would list hashtags. So maybe [8:06] four hashtags at most that relate to [8:08] your niche. And below that, you can feel [8:10] free to add a closing statement like [8:12] don't forget to like and subscribe, [8:14] thanks for watching, or something like [8:15] that. It's up to you. So let's summarize [8:18] the main points, the structure of your [8:21] description box. Number one, that [8:22] attentiongrabbing sentence that's short [8:24] and sweet. And then the next thing [8:26] behind that is your grab my free guide [8:28] and your link. Make sure it's above the [8:30] fold. Once you open up your description [8:32] box, below that you will then list a [8:35] brief description about the video. So a [8:38] few sentences that are keywordri about [8:40] the video. It could be bullet points, [8:42] whatever you want to do. In this video, [8:43] you will learn bullet point, bullet [8:45] point, bullet point with all highly um [8:48] packed with keywords. Below that will be [8:50] a call to action, a CTA of where people [8:53] will find out more about you, how to [8:54] work with you, how to get your courses, [8:56] how to get into your workshops, whatever [8:58] it is you want to mention. That would be [9:00] below the description. Also, below the [9:02] description, you can put your chapters [9:04] or like me, you can put your chapters [9:06] lower down in the description box where [9:08] you feel comfortable. So, after you have [9:11] your call to action, then you have your [9:13] resources, links to your resources. And [9:16] so that would be anything you mention in [9:17] the video like, "Hey, you talked about [9:19] this person, mention them there." "Hey, [9:21] I said you could get this free resource, [9:22] put it in the link there." "Hey, if you [9:24] want to use this product that I'm [9:26] using," that's where the link would go. [9:27] So, you have the resource links there. [9:29] Next up will be social media and contact [9:31] information. Below that would be the [9:33] legal disclaimer for any affiliate links [9:35] that you have to make your audience [9:37] aware that you will make money if they [9:39] click on one of those links. And below [9:40] that, you put the hashtags. And then [9:42] below that, you have a closing [9:44] statement. So, there you have it. That's [9:45] how you can structure your description [9:47] box of your video. One bonus tip that I [9:50] would like to share with you is that you [9:52] can prefill this on all your videos and [9:55] then adapt it for each video. So, you [9:57] can't prefill the attention grabbing [10:00] sentence and and those types of things, [10:02] but you can prefill the call to action, [10:04] the affiliate links, all the stuff that [10:06] you always list in your videos, right? [10:08] And to do that, what you need to do is [10:09] go into YouTube Studio, click on [10:12] settings on the lefthand side, then [10:14] upload defaults, and when you're in the [10:17] basic tab, you'll see description box, [10:20] and that's where you can add in, copy [10:22] and paste in everything that you would [10:23] normally have in your videos. So that [10:25] when you upload a video, that will [10:27] automatically be pre-filled for you, the [10:29] description box. And then you just need [10:30] to add in those few sentences, the few [10:32] description that relates to that actual [10:34] video, and the rest will be the same. So [10:37] that helps you to streamline the process [10:39] of uploading your video so you don't [10:40] have to write the description box every [10:42] single time. So hopefully this was [10:45] helpful and if you have any questions [10:46] about it, ask in the comments below. [10:48] Otherwise, I'll see you in the next [10:49] video. Bye for now.
