[0:00] hey YouTube this is diaphone today I [0:02] want to do a guide for people that are [0:04] brand new to fighting games you know [0:06] when I first started playing fighting [0:07] games I wasn't a guide like this out [0:09] there and I made a lot of mistakes along [0:10] the way and I want to share the lessons [0:12] learned from those mistakes I also pose [0:14] the same exact question to Twitter and I [0:17] wanted to share some of the results from [0:19] this to help you guys as well so I [0:20] basically asked would you wish you knew [0:22] when you first started fighting games so [0:23] for me it was funny enough it's about my [0:26] controller so I waited a really long [0:28] time to play Funny Games I waited about [0:30] almost a year to play funny games [0:31] because I had to save up enough money [0:33] for a stick turns out this is not very [0:35] important and actually people have won [0:37] tournaments with a variety of different [0:38] controllers including pad which I had [0:40] access to and other controllers such as [0:42] hitbox right personally I wish I knew [0:45] that I could have played on pad honestly [0:46] what controller should you play on [0:48] doesn't really matter just play on what [0:50] feels the most comfortable for you [0:52] so first question I see people say a lot [0:54] is do I need to play an easy game or [0:56] what game should I play or I heard this [0:58] game is hard should I play it honestly [1:00] it doesn't really matter play what you [1:01] want hard games are hard for everyone so [1:03] it's an equal disadvantage right how I [1:05] choose what funny game to play [1:06] personally my criteria are is it fun [1:09] that's number one important and then [1:10] does have people playing it right [1:12] because if you don't have anyone to play [1:13] a fun game it's honestly there's no [1:15] competition it's not fun okay so you [1:17] find your game where do you start well [1:19] generally every game is gonna have a [1:20] tutorial start there right start the [1:22] tutorial understand the game system like [1:25] you can go on YouTube watch a guide or [1:26] two just understand how the game [1:28] generally works then you need to figure [1:30] out who to play generally the same kind [1:32] of rule applies pick you like if the [1:34] character is hard it can't take more [1:36] time to learn the game that is the thing [1:38] just expect that and as long as you're [1:40] okay with that I think it's perfectly [1:42] fine but I do suggest that if you think [1:44] you might get frustrated or if you do [1:45] start to get frustrated and want to win [1:47] faster learn an easier character you can [1:49] learn two characters at once a lot of [1:51] people do this McLean myself so and then [1:53] do tearless matter for new players well [1:55] not really you're basically as a [1:57] beginner you're playing a completely [1:59] different game than anyone else [2:03] you know when you get to a higher level [2:05] you can always just switch a character [2:07] that's not a big deal right but if you [2:09] do win a quick win pick an easy [2:10] character learn what your character can [2:12] do and then you want former General game [2:14] playing of how the characters should be [2:15] played so one of the most stressed [2:18] things to new players is don't Focus [2:20] solely on condos if you want to win [2:22] combos are not what wins you the game [2:24] it's getting into the position to land [2:27] that combo that's way more important [2:29] learn what you do in the neutral game [2:31] that's like when you're far away from [2:33] the opponent if you're a Sony character [2:35] you want to keep them away how do you [2:36] keep them away effectively but you can [2:38] learn the basics you can learn them [2:39] through guides you can learn through the [2:41] games tutorial or you can look at [2:43] matches that other players have played [2:45] that are higher level and just kind of [2:47] copy some of the stuff they do that's [2:49] one of the most effective ways to learn [2:50] a character the other recommendation I [2:52] would make is just go in the matches [2:54] don't be afraid to play you know if you [2:56] play without that much training time [2:58] honestly you'll probably lose right but [3:00] that's okay one of the most efficient [3:02] ways to learn a fighting game is to lose [3:05] honestly so don't be afraid to go online [3:07] lose and you'll get stronger from that [3:10] and so if you do pick up a guide I make [3:12] guides on my YouTube so if you're [3:14] interested in that consider subscribing [3:15] but there's a few things you need to [3:17] know so there's this thing called number [3:18] notation and the idea being that do a [3:22] quarter Circle forward and then a punch [3:24] button that takes a lot of time to say [3:27] right and people don't rate that kind of [3:28] stuff out so the most common thing that [3:31] you'll see when you look at a combo [3:32] Guide online is I'll use a number system [3:34] and the idea being like look down at [3:36] your keyboard and so if you see [3:38] something like a 236 that means quarter [3:40] Circle forward and then you just do the [3:42] motion and there are some games like [3:44] Tekken or Mortal Kombat that the numbers [3:46] are the attacks and they'll do stuff [3:48] like down forward but in general you can [3:51] understand the notation pretty easily [3:52] just don't get discouraged if you don't [3:55] understand it right away the other thing [3:57] you'll run into you'll hear words like [3:58] neutral game [4:00] footsies meaties [4:04] okizemi oh Kazumi and you'll be like [4:06] what the heck does any of this mean so [4:08] they actually have a glossary if you've [4:10] never heard of any of these terms and [4:12] you can literally search like okay what [4:14] does Okie mean and it says Okie also [4:16] knows okisemi and it's the Mind Games [4:18] the mix-up that occur around attacking [4:20] and blocking so if you ever hear any of [4:22] these terms and like a guide or when [4:23] you're communicating to like friends or [4:25] looking up stuff for the game just go to [4:27] this website it's amazing and it'll [4:29] really help you out when you're learning [4:30] a game so once you get the basics down [4:32] you know you play some online matches [4:34] you start to you know train look at some [4:36] guides and some matches how do you [4:38] improve well just like anything [4:40] repetition is the mother learning so [4:42] just keep doing those things a few other [4:44] tips I would recommend if you want to [4:46] get better and then enjoy yourself more [4:48] is number one join a community one of [4:51] the coolest things about the fighting [4:52] game Community is like very accepting [4:53] and they want to teach people about [4:55] fighting games because well fighting [4:57] games are really cool we want to share [4:58] our passion right so how do you find a [4:59] community well I recommend starting with [5:01] your local community so not sure how to [5:03] do that so I used to be from Pittsburgh [5:04] so if I just Google piss for fighting [5:06] game Community it's literally the first [5:08] result so try that in Google those [5:11] bigger cities have a fine game community [5:13] and they're all really cool at least the [5:15] ones that I've seen a couple other [5:16] discords that I recommend for new [5:18] players is a Discord called New [5:19] Challenger and then there's also a [5:21] Discord called wasd gaming links down in [5:24] the description below but there's also [5:26] many great streamers that have their own [5:28] Discord so find the community that works [5:30] best for you I also recommend joining [5:32] the Discord for your specific game right [5:34] so if you're looking to find people that [5:35] play the game especially if it's a less [5:37] common game in my experience one of the [5:39] best ways to level up is to have someone [5:42] that you can communicate and learn with [5:44] as you play the fighting game a couple [5:46] other things so there's this thing [5:48] called Frame data basically the idea is [5:50] is that think of fighting games as a [5:52] turn-based game [5:55] so if you block a jump in for example [5:58] generally it's not your turn because the [6:00] opponent has an advantage which means [6:02] you should not press a button however [6:03] there are some moves that are what we [6:05] call myosin block which means it is your [6:07] turn so when you block a move like that [6:09] you can press something so you don't [6:11] need to know specifics but you want to [6:13] learn the basics that there's some moves [6:15] that you don't want to press a button [6:16] after and there's some moves that you do [6:18] when I press a button after and you'll [6:19] pick that up as the game goes on but [6:21] just understanding that concept is [6:23] really important and if you search for [6:25] Frame data guides you can learn more [6:27] about the subject a couple things I [6:28] would also recommend is your mentality [6:31] matters a lot there's a Twitter page [6:33] called scrub quotes these are people [6:35] that get really salty at the game and [6:37] they say things that are not helpful [6:39] towards their own progress so whenever [6:42] you see things like this if you ever [6:44] have this thought in your head that like [6:45] someone's spamming d1d1b that's doing [6:48] crowd shab over and over and you don't [6:50] know how to deal with it and you get [6:51] salty the thing you shouldn't do is [6:53] everything that's on this page scrub [6:55] quotes the thing you should do is try to [6:57] learn from it if someone is spamming or [6:59] if someone's doing tactics that seem [7:01] really cheap the cool thing about [7:03] playing games is this is almost always [7:04] an answer so take your loss and learn [7:07] from it and just recognize that like if [7:09] you are losing learn to be okay with [7:10] blaming yourself for the losses because [7:12] again you're new right so it's okay to [7:15] lose and recognize you have the ability [7:16] to get better just like anything and [7:18] overcome your previous faults so make [7:20] sure you persevere because fighting [7:22] games are truly a rewarding and fun [7:24] genre and the one last thing I'll say is [7:26] trust yourself right trust your [7:28] instincts you know believe in your ideas [7:30] and test them out but also like if you [7:32] get advice from other players doesn't [7:34] mean it's necessarily right so trust [7:36] your instinct and if in your gut you [7:38] don't think it's good advice it might [7:40] not be good advice right but yeah so [7:42] welcome to fighting games I hope this [7:44] content was useful I honestly think [7:46] playing games aren't as hard as you [7:47] think just like anything it takes time [7:49] to learn so be patient with yourself if [7:51] you like this kind of content consider [7:53] like sharing and subscribing really [7:54] helps out the channel [7:55] um I really like helping people that are [7:57] new in the fighting game scene because I [7:58] want fighting games to grow so I hope [8:00] this helps if you're looking for a [8:02] community to engage with I also stream [8:04] on Twitch I have a Twitter and a Discord [8:06] links down in the description below [8:07] consider following me on those platforms [8:09] as well and if you have any questions or [8:12] anything that you want new players to [8:13] also know leave it down in the comments [8:15] below thanks everyone and have a great [8:17] day [8:18] oh and don't forget an ethernet cord [8:21] don't play on Wi-Fi new players don't [8:22] play on Wi-Fi
