[0:00] Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers Show.  I'm your host, Paul. In this video,   [0:03] we're breaking down House of the Dragon. [0:10] The season 3 episode 3 trailer is now out, and  in this video, we're going to be breaking it   [0:14] all down. In it, I want to discuss what happens in  the book, where things could lead to, and also do   [0:19] some theory times about what could be going down.  As always, we are going to play the thing first,   [0:23] though, and then get into the breakdown  itself. Play the clip. Sorry. Play the clip. [0:31] All eyes look to me now. Must justify my  father's faith in me. Rule as he would have   [0:38] wished. At any rate, we must begin. There is  none yet to control. In the matter of the bed,   [0:46] your resources are small and your  hazards are many. Darren Targaryen.   [0:53] He's a claimment to the throne.  You're going to have to kill him.   [0:58] You may not rule and remain yourself. There is in  you a door that must shut. You will do things that   [1:05] your heart would have recoiled from. I dispute  that I must become what I am not. Time will tell. [1:19] Okay, so the trailer opens with Rene delivering a  resolute but strange speech which seems like it's   [1:24] in one of the bedrooms of the Red Keep. She  says, "All eyes look to me now. Let's justify   [1:30] my father's faith in me. Rule as he would have  wished." Now, because of this, I do even wonder if   [1:36] this is for Saras's bedroom, and she's visiting  the place they last properly spoke. We cut to   [1:41] her seemingly talking to Damon in front of a bed,  and it looks like the place the king passed away.   [1:46] For this, Rene appears to be in the throne room  wearing his crown with the small folk before her.   [1:51] Corus is to the right acting as the hand and it  looks a lot like the scene in season 2 where the   [1:56] small folk asked Agon for favors. We know that  Corus is the hand as well because of the shot   [2:01] at 20 seconds where we can see him wearing the  pin. I did and I didn't miss that one. We also   [2:05] see her gripping the chair almost anxiously. This  actually makes it appear a lot like the pictures   [2:10] from the Game of Thrones history special features  where she's seen holding it while blood drips from   [2:15] her hands. The throne cut her in the book and  this was said to show that she was completely   [2:19] unfit to rule. So, I do wonder if that scene's  going to happen here. Quick cuts then show her   [2:25] staff following her, saying loads of stuff, her  hitting the thumbs up, the small council, and so   [2:29] on and so on, and so on and so on. Rene has one  hell of a job right now, though, because she has   [2:35] to rule all while fighting the war. Plus, there's  the rats. One runs by her, and the keep is full of   [2:41] them because Egon had all the rat catchers hanged  after Blood and Cheese, which she kind of, well,   [2:46] not her, Damon caused it in the show, but in the  book, she caused it. Rats of course symbolically   [2:51] also hold lots of weight in the show. One appeared  at the end of the episode when Rairo got married   [2:55] and there were also ones scurrying around Viseris  as the rats started closing in. Symbolically they   [3:00] also show that the throne is being picked at  and there's definitely a feeling of anxiety   [3:05] throughout the small council as well showing  that she has indeed came out and joined her. We   [3:11] then get handing over what appears to be Darren  Targaryen. This is the scene that we saw in the   [3:16] leaks. And because of this, people assume that the  Darren in episode one wasn't actually Darren. Now,   [3:22] that takes us into theory time. Theory time.  Theory time. That's why I [ __ ] your [ __ ]   [3:26] you fat [ __ ] Get theories. Get theories. So, I  actually think that the one in episode 1 is the   [3:34] real Daron, and this one is a fake one. I feel  like Orund is handing over a child to broke a   [3:39] piece while really having his own minations.  I think that Orman will learn of Otto being   [3:45] killed and decide that he doesn't want to work  with the queen. Darren has been his squire for   [3:49] years and years. So I don't think he's gonna be  like, "All right, well, yeah, of course I'm gonna   [3:52] hand him over." He's going to want to protect the  lad. We have seen a night of the seven kingdoms.   [3:56] Knights and squires are like best mates. So yeah,  I don't think he's going to do that. So instead,   [4:00] I think he'll hand over the fake Darren to Reira,  and then he and the real one will continue to   [4:05] fight the war. I even wonder if Rene will execute  the kid like Damon says and then she'll realize   [4:10] she's killed another sudden fruitless endeavor.  The entire trailer seems to center around the   [4:15] idea that Reira must change who she is in order  to rule. She's trying to set out to be like her   [4:20] father, but obviously they're at war and she  needs to be ruthless. But that's good morning. [4:28] Anyway, um, in general, Darren, aka Agon's  younger brother, he's the writer of Tisarian   [4:34] and is positioned as being an active rival to the  throne, not to Aegon. But in the show's timeline,   [4:40] with Agon, the second status being  uncertain to the royals and commoners,   [4:43] Darren becomes a symbolic and literal claimant  for Team Green, especially with the High Tower   [4:48] army led by Almond High Tower. The blunt advice to  assassinate him also underscores how the war has   [4:54] stripped away any true honor or family connection.  You see, Darren is also one of Iseras's kids as   [4:59] well. And I think he's half brother, like half  brother to her and like nephew, brother-in-law   [5:06] to to Damon or some [ __ ] No idea what that is.  So, one of those things. But in the book, he's   [5:12] portrayed as valiant and honorable due to winning  at Honey Wine. His fate isn't really a happy one,   [5:16] but he doesn't die the way the show seems to  be setting up, which again makes me think it   [5:21] isn't him. And I won't do the theory time jingle  again. Now, in Fire and Blood, Darren is never the   [5:25] primary rival while Egon the second lives, but he  represents the surviving Green Male line. Calling   [5:30] for his death reflects the Targaryen's descent  into total ruthlessness and how bad things are   [5:35] getting amongst the households. We've had deaths  and battles and such before, but never them just   [5:40] coldly executing each other. That all changed with  Otto, and I think Rey might get a taste for it,   [5:45] but Reneer is going to have lots of conflict  because of this. Allison says she can't rule and   [5:50] remain herself and that she'll have to do things  she would have once recalled from, such as killing   [5:54] a kid, I imagine. We know that eventually Rene  becomes Rene the cruel and that the common folk   [5:59] hate her. This was because the bank was robbed of  its money by the master of coin and so Rene has to   [6:03] put taxes up if she starts killing kids as well.  It's going to look bad. But yeah, upon taking   [6:08] King's Landing, ReeroRa was initially welcome, but  the treasury issues, riots, and what happens with   [6:14] the dragon seeds fractured her support and  ultimately left her at her lowest point. We   [6:19] then see her having a big banquet, which probably  won't go down well with the common folk and also   [6:24] snuggling up to her hubby/ uncle at night. This  is all going down while people are starving, and   [6:30] it makes her rule extremely unpopular. She moves  through the kingdoms and we see the green banners   [6:35] being torn down. We also see the dragon seeds at  one point as well. This is all likely building off   [6:39] the scene in the weeks ahead trailer where we saw  them being kned. There's also lots more stuff on   [6:44] the floor there as well. Anariniro was getting all  her new cloths. Now, if you want to look good in   [6:49] some brand new cloths, too, then why not check out  our merch store right below the video there. We've   [6:55] just launched our brand new Sheep Steeler inspired  shirts that your friends will be dying for. Hey,   [7:00] hey, hey, hey, hey. We also have our Caraxis  inspired one as well and lots of different TE's   [7:05] inspired by the show. Plus, we've got big sales  and discounts on as well. And the more you buy,   [7:10] the more money you save. Anyway, the lines  throughout the trailer capture the core theme.   [7:14] The show is about the erosion of the Targaryenss  and the death of the dragons during the Civil War.   [7:19] Though the dragons aren't wiped out entirely, the  species is sent to a place that they don't really   [7:25] recover from. Rene also resists becoming a tyrant  or monster. And unfortunately, the circumstances   [7:31] demand ruthlessness. It all builds to the  burning of the green cloth, which is the last   [7:35] symbol of their hold in the kingdom. Allison and  Helena are prisoner at this point, as is Daron,   [7:40] if that is really Daron. Aemon is at Harrenhal as  well, dying from a stab wound, and Aegon is badly   [7:46] burned and lost to the wind. Bira is trying to  put things back in order and expelling the Greens   [7:51] from within. However, it will all come at a big  cost, and if she has to kill a kid, then that's   [7:56] really going to sit with her. think it's going to  be even worse as well if it turns out this wasn't   [8:01] even Darren and that he remains with Orund and  also has a dragon. In the end, Rene's arc here   [8:07] positions her not as a flawless hero, but as a  ruler forced into doing bad to try and do good.   [8:12] This aligns with Mon's theme that power exacts a  terrible price. Overall, this trailer captures the   [8:18] rough road ahead she has when it comes to ruling.  It's exhausting, morally complex, and it all comes   [8:24] with a cost. The show has kind of shied away  from Reneer going into her full villain arc. But   [8:28] it does seem like that they're setting the stage  here. So, I think that will be what they kind of   [8:33] lay the groundwork for. And if she has to kill  a kid, it's like, "Oh, are we are we the baddies   [8:37] now?" And then it'll all kind of go from there.  Episode 3 seems like it's going to be handling   [8:41] the escalating stakes though. As the war grinds  forward at Tumbleton, it'll also probably set   [8:46] the stage for the riots and the eventual mutual  destruction of both Targaryen factions. Reneira   [8:51] must decide what and who she is willing to become  to not only claim the throne but also to keep it.   [8:57] I think this is going to be the first episode in  which we really see what would happen if Rene was   [9:02] in a position of power. And it's going to be  interesting to see how heavy bears the crown,   [9:07] how heavy wears the crown, how heavies are the  spoilers, that sort of thing.
