## Summary

Alex Berman hosts a live Q&A session on cold email, answering audience questions about prospecting, deliverability, and campaign optimization. He shares practical strategies for finding leads, crafting effective emails, and avoiding spam filters, while promoting his tool Omni.us.

### Key Points

- **Introduction and Setup** [00:00] — Alex starts the live stream in Delhi, India, explaining he will answer cold email questions from Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Twitter. He promotes Omni.us as a cold email sending tool.
- **Where to Find Prospects** [02:00] — Alex recommends Lead Shark for general business leads, Crunchbase for startup leads, Google Maps for local businesses, and Lusha for B2B database and LinkedIn scraping.
- **Getting Responses on First Email** [04:00] — Alex shares that with a strong offer, prospects can respond on the first email. He cites examples like Tesla and McKinsey responding to the first email for Taplio.
- **Avoiding Spam Filters** [08:00] — To avoid spam, use a warm-up tool like Omniwarm, send to relevant contacts, keep bounce rate under 3-4%, use email verification tools like NeverBounce, and ensure emails look personal and relevant.
- **LinkedIn Outreach Strategy** [12:00] — Optimize your LinkedIn profile to stand out. Send connection requests without a message, let your profile speak, then follow up with a direct pitch. Example: 'Hey, just wanted to send you this tool...'
- **Testing and Scaling Campaigns** [16:00] — Start with customized emails until you find a working script, then scale gradually. Test subject lines first, then the offer/benefit statement. Split test with 200 prospects per variable.
- **Email Signature and Deliverability** [20:00] — Include a physical address for legal and deliverability reasons. Avoid links in the signature if possible; one link to your website or LinkedIn is fine. Too many links reduce response rates.
- **Using Loom Videos in Cold Emails** [24:00] — Alex advises against Loom videos because they add complexity (4 steps become 7), making it harder to identify and fix issues. Plain text emails are simpler and more effective.

### Conclusion

Cold email success hinges on a strong offer, relevant leads, and personalization. Start small, test rigorously, and prioritize simplicity to maximize response rates.

## Transcript

my friends I am here in Delhi India and it is currently 9 31 am drinking this cup of uh coffee and I'm thinking why don't we do a cold email q a we haven't done one of these in a while let's go live on Facebook LinkedIn YouTube and Twitter and let's just let's talk cold email so I have this set up here I can present and show you what I'm doing here I have this screen set up where all of the comments from all these platforms are all going to come into this feed and so it doesn't matter where you are on Twitter on Facebook on LinkedIn ask your question here we'll talk about cold email and we'll we'll just make this happen you know uh morning stream for me and a night stream for most of the US and also this is sponsored by omni.us which is our cold email sending tool if you want to send your first cold email for free go on over to omni.us 49 bucks for unlimited sending you could connect 200 cold email domains to Omni right now and send you know a thousand cold emails a day um for or more with 200 you know four thousand five thousand cold emails a day uh for for 49 bucks a month at Omni and it's free for the seven day free trial so honestly you can just get the seven day free trial blast the emails out and then cancel but I don't recommend doing that uh omni.us okay let's jump into this uh atmash says hey Alex where do you find prospects so there's a couple places when you're looking to find prospects first you identify what's Prospect so a prospect is that person that you're sending cold email messages to uh who you actually talking to same with LinkedIn Outreach same with anything um there's a couple different spots that I like to find prospects LinkedIn user says Hello Alex hello so this is a question we're answering right now a couple different places I like to find prospects if you are just looking for a general database I use lead shark that's the company we own that has a bunch of verified leads and you can go in there and just grab leads one by one this is a database so this is this is what it is this is one way to do it um this is for General business leads if you're looking for startup leads I will typically use crunchbase which has a big database of basically tech companies you can start a free trial and you can just download the list there if you're looking for you know more detail more local businesses then what you're basically going to do is go to Google Maps and pull this way so you'd search like dentists in Chicago and you'd basically scrape this way um I feel like I covered almost everything uh and then finally like if you really want to um if you really want to just you know grab everything else you can use a tool like Lusha um Lusha has a B2B database but it also scrapes LinkedIn so you can grab that as well um so there you go there's some free tools for you free instant value uh and there's the answer to the question so waffle law says hey it's me waffle from Pakistan hello uh LinkedIn user says I should read these before I show them up on the screen that's what I just realized uh LinkedIn user says based on your experience could prospects answer on the first email there's usually on the follow-up Space Center data when do you get the most plus okay if you're running your cold email campaign correctly you'll get responses on the first one so here is I'll show you one other example here here is the landing page for a startup that we actually just sold um we sold this for seven figures tap Leo and the reason why I'm showing you this is there is a bunch of corporate logos on here you'll see Tesla McKinsey Moody's Pinterest Prezi um these were all got these were all um found via cold email and Tesla responded on email one McKenzie email one Moody's Pinterest uh all of these were email one and the reason why I say this is when your offer is good enough you will get responses on the first email the follow-ups are just there as a sweetener um and they're the reason why this worked I can actually break down this campaign a little bit if you want to hear about it um the reason why this campaign worked is we identified contacts at these companies that had um big LinkedIn audiences so taplio helps you grow your personal brand on LinkedIn right so identify these people that have big LinkedIn audiences that work at Tesla email them and say hey um would love to get you trialed on uh taplio you know we'd love to help you grow I have this tool would love your feedback on it who would say no to that right a free tool that's going to help you grow on LinkedIn so they respond back you get them trialled and now all of a sudden uh they're signed up then if they want to add other people to their company now there's the product LED growth inside of these Enterprise companies like that so that is one strategy that works very well for us or worked very well for us um and so I I recommend that so if you are waiting till email 3 email for email five for prospects to respond to your cold email campaign I would look at your your offer I would look at your cold email script and I would also look at your um you're offering your cold email script and I would look at your lead quality to make sure that these people actually uh will buy and can buy it's the best q a I've done in a while William what's the maximum number of contacts that can be uploaded into omni.us right this second okay omni.us is still in beta and right this second there are no limits on anything now our AWS team and probably everybody uh that's not me on the team thinks that's a stupid idea but it does not matter right now but right now there's no limits you can connect unlimited inboxes you can have unlimited leads in here um you know 300 400 000 leads whatever onto Omni the only limit we have is per campaign it's 10 000 leads per campaign so you create a cold email campaign you put 10 000 leads in that but you can do that on limited times and we might even remove that limit too that limit seems pretty arbitrary to me thank you uh Saturn how do you avoid getting flagged to spam by Gmail assuming the person's name is changed in the script so in order to avoid being marked as spam you really want to use a warm-up tool the warm-up tool that I like is um is this one called omniwarm it's actually inside Omni same same thing but basically what a warm-up tool does is it will send cold emails from your account to other people and then they'll be responded to here you can see I was running omniwarm we stopped it here because I switched us over to a different account but you can see here on January 3rd we remarked the spam is one and then that was an easy one to clean then we were just in primary right after that so that's one way to avoid being marked as spam second way to avoid being marked as spam is make sure you're sending to relevant contacts make sure you keep your bounce rate low you don't really want your bounce rate to be over like three or four percent another good tool you can use if you're trying to keep your bounce rate low is uh never bounce I like to run all of our emails through this tool never bounce and find the um the valid email so basically let's say you have a thousand emails you would run them through never bounds for eight bucks and it would tell you which ones are actually valid um and maybe there's like 700 valid and then when you send to those the bounce rate is going to be a lot lower so that'll help and then the third thing to avoid the uh the spam box and all that is just look through your email and make sure it looks real and relevant you know uh you'd be surprised how many emails go out with grammar mistakes or how many emails go out when it looks like a like a form letter that you'd send to a large group of people remember when you're in your inbox it's similar to um to this live stream right this live stream I'm not talking to a group of people I'm talking directly to you in your office similar to um similar to an email I'm not sending an email to a group of 30 000 or 40 000 people I'm sending an email from me to you to the recipient and so keep that in mind when you're writing your emails and don't put things in the email that you wouldn't put uh when you're addressing a single person typically I keep it short and I keep it relevant William says what's the best data scraper for LinkedIn best data scraper for LinkedIn um honestly they're all they're all kind of the same um best data scraper for LinkedIn what am I using right now I like lead hype lead hype is good or scrape hype I guess it's the same company I'll show you I'll show you just because this is the um it's the vibe we're feeling right now it's a screen share vibe spray pipe and what I like about these guys is you don't have to actually scrape LinkedIn with them LinkedIn don't ban me for showing you this um they scrape it for you on their own accounts so then you don't have to touch uh LinkedIn at all and you're safe um okay uh and then the best email verification I like never bounce never bounce Works uh lead shark also has built-in verification if you use the lead shark leads thanks so much Alex your system is life-changing I would love a chance to serve you as a mentor uh reach out to the team yeah we can talk for sure um Psy says what's the best way to make cold emails successful are there any templates attractive subject lines or customers are predominantly into Healthcare retail cloud services and we're into Services you know what I would do if I were you is grab the book cold email Manifesto because it's got literally everything in it by the way put a one in the chat if you're finding this valuable I know this is fun it's kind of off the cuff um cold email Manifesto is 99 Cents if you just go grab this it's got all of our email scripts uh all of our processes basically everything we've we've used with coaching clients Etc um is here for 99 cents so you don't have to you don't got to pay thousands of dollars for this info um and that's everything LinkedIn user love tap Leo amazing very cool we um we got very lucky there we just exited or really six months ago we announced it last night uh MD rasan how do you get clients from LinkedIn by messaging people on LinkedIn tell something about that how do you get clients on LinkedIn by messaging people on LinkedIn so the first thing is you want to make sure your profile is optimized rasan um I can look at your profile real quick let me see if I can find it so we've generated hundreds of thousands of dollars off LinkedIn I was trying to think of the exact number I'm not sure what the exact number is um just LinkedIn Outreach let me just do this MD response MD rasan Raman let me find you here MD rasan okay so number one is make sure your profile stands on its own the whole point of Outreach on LinkedIn is um when we do connection requests we're just connecting without adding any messages or anything and people are are accepting because our profile looks the way it does so if you compare your profile to something like ours like mine um do you see that you can see the differences immediately first of all I'm streaming online um but normally it has a picture up here which you saw for a second profile picture your profile picture is fine but what you're not seeing what I'm not seeing is um what you can do for me and you do have top-rated lead generator but I don't see that I don't see like a lot of value here versus mine you see founder of omni.us asking me about cold email YouTuber Etc as you come down so that's the number one thing is just make sure your profile is relevant this like really low quality picture of upwork um what I think when I see this I'm like if his image quality is this bad how bad is his lead quality you know so it's just like you got to think through all this like little stuff and then set up a tool to send the um the automated messages which I don't think I could recommend because of uh because we're streaming this on LinkedIn you might have to you might have to just Google um LinkedIn Outreach tool uh okay LinkedIn user another question this is one LinkedIn these are another question this one is more about having good offer the service I offer is lead generation Home Services however these guys get a lot of cold emails about lead generation if I were to offer to set up their campaign and only get paid once leads start coming in you think that would be unique different enough to get clients um do I think that would be unique different enough to get clients so most of these most of these questions uh Hey I want to do this thing to this customer base do you think it's a good idea um would be best served actually by you making a list of 100 or 200 of these people and then cold calling and cold emailing them and seeing what they say the best feedback is going to be from the market my gut I could give you my gut feel which is yes it'll perform better my gut feel also says these guys are getting pitched this second service as well a lot get out there and uh and test out the market you know get out there and test it in the market only get paid once the leads start coming in um the main thing so the main reason anybody buys from anybody is they think that they're going to make money they think there's a high chance that they're going to make money and that's the reason any marketing service is hired right High chances are going to make money now there's there's a key to everything that I that I just said there high chance means uh they think that you can deliver or they think there are high odds uh if they think there's a low chance they're going to make money with you they're not going to hire you and so the reason that's that's the reason why a lot of people get pushed back on price Etc is they think I'm going to spend two thousand dollars and there's a low chance I'm gonna make that two thousand dollars back so I'm just not going to to do it or I'm going to spend ten thousand I'm gonna spend 100 000 members so you need to just lower uh the risk for them the money risk and you can do that through case studies you can do that exactly like you're talking about here having them put no money down um and then have them go I would at least try to lower your risk on the other side because if you're working for a client that has no money in the game they're not going to want to help you so I would at least try to get like a thousand bucks 1500 bucks out of them just to make sure that they're validated and they're ready to go hey you doing any email teardowns today I usually do email teardowns only on my uh you know someone's saying my audio is gone is my audio gone or no I doubt my audio is gone let me double check I think my audio is fine yeah okay hey doing any cold email teardowns today uh no not today LinkedIn user for email signature is it necessary to have your address on there I don't have a company address so I just worked for home but I don't want to use my home address I also notice to include links in your signature would that hurt your deliverability um so my email signature does not have links let me see what I'm sending I don't think I can show you my email signature without doxing myself honestly yeah I'm fine okay my email signature I'll show you what I'm doing here so this is my email signature um Alex Berman chairman founder so I have my name my title company name this is not a link uh corporate address if you don't have a company address you can always rent a company address you can always put a different address but you bait you need a um you need an address in your emails for deliverability reasons and for some countries have legal requirements that you need an address in your signature then I've got my email address here I have a link to my YouTube um this link to my YouTube is a replacement for a website I'm a YouTuber so a lot of the emails I'm sending back and forth are for sponsorships on this email address so I this is my website you know as far as anyone's concerned but if you were you know anyone else you'd put like you know your agency website here so I'd put x27 marketing.com here and then I also put my LinkedIn this is completely unnecessary the only reason I like doing this is because my LinkedIn helps get responses on these cold email campaigns does that uh hurt deliverability no it's not Frederick says yes learning new things very good Psy has muted his own PC and now thinks nobody else can hear it's pretty funny uh all right Ahmad hey buddy did you monetize any project using chat gbt3 yet thanks for your time uh not chat gpg3 um and technically tap Leo used an AI uh to to run and to to fuel it same with tweet Hunter but I don't know what the the tool is I don't think we're allowed to say if it's gpt3 or not Kevin congratulations for taplio I've revolved I have enrolled in three courses of yours and would like to know is it necessary to have good knowledge in the skill set that I'm prospecting for uh prospecting no if you're just trying to build a list of like dentists you don't need to know very much about Dentistry um selling to them you need to at least have some base level knowledge to use the words that they're using selling includes writing the cold email campaigns and everything um and then closing them same fulfilling for dentists again I don't think you need like knowledge of how to clean teeth but it would help to know the different services that dentists offer so that you can go out there and sell them effectively really says hey Alex I bought some leads from lead shark thank you um but I have a question here uh what are the clients looking for how do we know that so the way that you so the way that cold emails work is everything's done based on on guessing so uh you use flags to figure out what they want so for instance you would you would say to yourself you're like okay CEOs at uh digital marketing services in the United States are looking for more leads and then so that's what you say to yourself then you'd send a cold email campaign to those leads and you'd say hey are you looking for more leads and then if they say yes or something similar to that whatever then if they say yes then you know that they need that um so what are the clients looking for would come down to what sort of clients you pick you know dentists in Chicago might be looking for you know a better deal on uh latex gloves you know what I'm saying dentists in Chicago might also be looking for more uh you know braces clients and they they can be looking for both of those so it's all about you it's all about you uh Tariq can you review my profile please prote web enthusiast Tariq Islam prati I'll look at it real quick yeah I just don't want to turn into a whole thing all right speak Islam party okay that's my review you don't show up in LinkedIn search so you don't exist that's your that's where we are uh should we pitch in the first connection Quest or build the connection first uh first connection request I usually send just uh the default you know I send the default and I let my profile speak on itself on its own and then they connect from there and then we'll send messages after uh the first message that I typically send them is a um is either a link or or something else like here I can show you kind of what we're doing what I was doing recently to promote Omni I can show you here this is all I send I'm like hey just wanted to send you this we just launched a tool for sending emails at scale want to check it out it's omni.us and then I'll follow up I'll be like did you check it out that's very very simple um to try to just drive software leads so I'm always a big fan of direct pitching Carson what's the best tool to make a list of leads I answered this like right in the very very beginning of the um of the Stream if you want to go back there uh short answer is it depends on the leads you want you know you're either going to use you know something like a lead hype if you want to scrape LinkedIn you're going to use Google Maps if you're going to build a list of local leads lead shark if you just want general you know database uh contacts or crunch base if you want SAS Rana should we send customized emails or run the campaign with bulk emails start with customized emails until you have a script that works and then you can scale it up similar to running an ad campaign you wouldn't start the ad campaign by spending you know five thousand dollars a day similar to how you wouldn't start a cold email campaign by sending 5 000 emails a day instead you're going to spend like you know 100 bucks a day or a dollar a day even NSU style um you're gonna send a couple emails you're going to see if you can get responses on them if not you're going to send a couple more and a couple more uh until you get something that kind of works and then you can send in batches of 100 and see if it keeps holding then you can send to a thousand you know whatever keep ramping it up from there does do these email read receipt tracking tools put your emails in spam no uh Philip Daniels is it possible to get b2c leads I don't know that's not something that I do uh not funny so home does the email read receive tracking tools put your emails and spam did you actually go hang on I could I hate on you did you actually go to the LinkedIn stream leave a comment then go to the YouTube stream and leave the exact same comment that's not funny soham that's not funny so huh all right does having hyperlinks hurt deliverability in Goldie Mill uh the more links that you have the lower your response rate is going to be uh and that's because a lot of times if you want somebody to uh do something you want to direct them to only do that thing and when you're sending a cold email that thing is responding to the email so if you have links in the email they're not responding to the email they're clicking the links so what I like to do is have as few links as possible in the body of the email itself uh and as few links as possible really in the email and that will force people to respond so if you need if you're in like a like a business where they need to have a link like maybe you're trying to send a portfolio or something then the best way to do it would be to ask them if they want it so like mind if I send over my portfolios you can take a look then they say yes then you pass the portfolio over hey would love to book a meeting let me know uh you know hey we'd love to book a meeting are you around Monday at 4 P.M otherwise uh I'm also available anytime Tuesday that would be the second email after they respond ramit seti used to call that the ramits one-two punch before he stopped teaching this uh LinkedIn user what are your thoughts on sending personalized Loom videos on email instead of a written email as a form of cold email Outreach um okay you can succeed with the loom video strategy I'm not going to say you can't in fact a couple people in our coaching have made a lot of money using the loom video strategy I don't like it because it complicates the entire process so here's here's the process here's what I'm thinking about you send a a cold email to somebody this is this is the way it could be send a cold email to somebody they look at it they respond they book a meeting right that's one way send look respond okay or actually send response yeah send look responded with four steps uh the other side would be the loom step which is you send they look it over they click they watch a couple minutes of the video they watch you know five minutes of the video then they come back to the email then they respond so that's five not seven so you've expanded the steps from four to seven now what's the hardest part of getting a cold email campaign to work well it's identifying what's broken and fixing it now what is easier to fix something with four parts or something with seven parts and that is why I tend to do plain text cold emails and not Loom videos it's just too much complexity and each layer of complexity makes it harder and harder to fix Uh Kevin thanks Alex you can organize any Meetup in India maybe I am in Delhi right now so maybe I'll do a map in India um have you used Luna AI no I have not Mike Griffin I remember in a video that you looked at company annual reports where they announced their plans for the upcoming year for leads can you explain the process again Mike the best way to get that explanation is probably to re-watch that video you gotta find the Alex in that exact moment that recorded that video but basically what I was saying was every year maybe every every quarter um these public businesses go through and they announce their their plans for the year uh or for the quarter even they'll announce their plans for the quarter and so what you're what you want to do is look at what those plans are so for instance let's say like Walmart in 2022 2023 wants to be more sustainable with what they do well you see that and then you can email somebody on the Walmart team uh with your sustainability offer you can just be like hey notice Walmart was trying to commit more to sustainability uh we help clients you know offset their carbon footprint you know we'd love to do the same for you or whatever whatever it is you know what I'm saying like identify what they want create your offer around that and then pitch them that offer based on what they were talking about the annual report that that was the strategy uh LinkedIn user I am about to start an email campaign with a list of a thousand prospects how would you split the testing 200 per change variable um okay so when it comes to a b testing you really want to do big changes uh big big changes uh at first now the uh the hierarchy of a cold email is um they're gonna look at the so first lead quality is the first thing I would test so if you have a thousand prospects make sure they're all in the same market right don't make so make sure that they're all in the same Market same criteria and then you can test that later uh second is going to be subject line because if they're not opening the email they're not reading the email so that's the first thing I would test is 200 for change it variable is fine um you know five tests of just the subject line to find something that works uh second thing you want to test is the uh offer itself the benefit statement so what I'll normally do is cut our offers uh nine different ways so I take like okay I'll think about what does omni do Omni helps you send cold emails out at scale great now what are nine different ways to express that well you can cut it down uh three different ways so the first one is how does this help people save money how second is how does this help people make money and the third is how does this help people uh save time so if I think about it through those lenses I can come up with three different benefits for each one so for instance uh make money so Omni helps you make more money by booking your sales team solid Omni helps you make more so number two Omni helps you make more money by um Omni helps you make more money by allowing you to send 10 times more cold emails than you're sending right now for the same price um so those are two make money ones save time uh Omni helps you save time by allowing you to test 10 campaigns at once in the time that normally uh one campaign would be tested right so basically you come through those save time and then I'll do the save money Omni helps you save money by firing your sales consultants and creating your outbound campaigns for free as part of the trial right so now you've got a bunch of examples of those each one of those benefit statements would then be a cold email test that you would send cool Saturn by the way guys sign up for Omni hang on I'll do that I'll do the Omni break mid-stream because if we don't get any if we don't get enough signups for Omni this stream was a big old waste of everyone's time just my time not a waste of your guys time uh let me see who's signing up for Omni here going over to omni.us and sign up trials free go down here this is for you fellas this is for you folks okay with that said let's go back to the Stream if we don't get another Omni sign up in the next 60 seconds I will end the Stream let me set the timer all right 60 seconds if we don't get an omni sign up next 60 seconds I'm going to end the screen startup isn't it it's like what if every time somebody signed up for Omni we got another minute on the stream kind of like how twitch does it um here let me read this how much more value do you think pitching a client by video has versus just a video call um first voice call uh always always you need to be on video they need to see your eyes they need to see your background no blurry background um they that that's the connection that replaces uh the in-person connection they need to be able to to see you and you know feel your uh feel your essence feel your Vibe it's not just enough to talk uh Ariana hey great job your Channel's in the maturity stage where it needs to have verified YouTube badge for more uh so Ariana what you don't know is we're at 96 000 Subs on YouTube so we get the badge automatically uh with a 100K so four more subs let's say we got five seconds left Who's Gonna Save The Stream Who's Gonna Save The Stream and sign up for Omni hold on I'm hearing it let me let me double check see if anyone signed up in the last minute hmm nope I see no all right guys well you voted you voted with your Wallets on that one I'll talk to you later have a great day have a great uh rest of your morning or rest your night and I'll talk to you soon take care
