## Transcript

This is the new 2026
Mercedes AMG GT63
Eperformance four-door, which is a
laughably long name. So, here's a
summary. This is one of the fastest,
most insane, coolest, best driving
four-door cars in existence. It has
around $830
horsepower and a sticker price of more
than $200,000.
And today I'm going to review this car
and show you all of its quirks and
features.

All right, time for the quirks and
features of the Mercedes AMG GT63S
e-performance
four-door. This car, the AMG GT
four-door, came out back in 2019, and it
was intended to be like a more practical
variant of the AMG GT exotic sports car
that Mercedes was making at the time.
Now, sadly, the name is pretty stupid.
Even AMG GT is kind of silly cuz AMG is
a lot of cars and GT is used in
basically everything. And then they
tacked on four-door because they
couldn't say sedan. This is actually a
hatchback. Sedan doesn't work. So you
got four-door. It doesn't work great.
And then now this version is the 63
performance. So that's the full name.
It's ridiculous. BMW has M5. Mercedes
has AMG GT63
performance four-door. It really rolls
right off the tongue. Thankfully,
despite the naming situation, this car
is amazing. I first reviewed the AMG
GT63 four-door back when it came out
almost exactly 7 years ago. And at the
time, I considered it to be one of the
best handling, best driving four-door
cars I had ever experienced. It was
fantastic. Now, since then, Mercedes has
expanded the lineup and they've added
some more affordable kind of lesser
models. The GT53 and then the GT43. And
for a brief period, the four-door GT63
actually disappeared completely from
this car's lineup. But now, it's back
and there's this new eerformance version
with insane performance. To explain,
check this out. The standard base level
GT43 has about 360 horsepower which is
pretty good. From there you can step up
to the GT53 which has about 430
horsepower. That's very respectable.
Then from there, you can step up to the
GT63
four-door. And that one has about 575
horsepower. And that's serious muscle.
But it doesn't even compare to the GT63S
with E performance. This car, which has
830
horsepower and around 1,50
pound feet of torque, it is a menace.
Now, the powertrain is Mercedes twin
turbo 4 L V8 and a lot of different AMG
models, but here it's also made it to a
plugin hybrid powertrain. So, this car
has all-wheel drive and giant power from
the engine and the electric stuff. The
result is 0 to 60 in 2.4 seconds, which
is massively crazy. Now, you're probably
thinking, "Okay, but it's bulky. It's
probably a big heavy peg of a car. And
indeed, at 4,800 lb, this isn't light.
But it still manages to be 600 lb
lighter than the new BMW M5, the sedan,
and lighter still than the M5 Touring,
the wagon version. And it has more power
than anything. The M5 tops out around
720 horsepower. Again, this is at 830.
The top level Panamera you can get right
now is 770 horsepower. Again, this is
830. The Audi RS6 right now has 620
horsepower. Pretty good. But yeah, this
is 830. Only the Porsche TYON has more
power. There's a version with over 900
horsepower, but of course that's full
electric. This is basically the most
powerful car you can get with four doors
and an engine in today's world. If you
want to maximize your practicality and
your performance, not go electric, get a
big old V8, this is the top dog, king of
the hill right now. This car even has
more power than the new Lamborghini Urus
SE, which is Lamborghini. They're trying
to maximize all the power, make it
crazy. This thing beats it out. But
before you go thinking it's an
environmenting disaster with a big V8
and all its power, keep in mind it's
also a plug-in hybrid. And so it has a
full electric mode and a very generous
driving range of eight electric miles.
Anyway, next up on to the quirks and
features. And let's start on the
outside. I think this car looks great.
It's a great job of turning an
attractive coupe, the regular AMG GT,
into an attractive four-door car that
looks like a coupe. In fact, the Porsche
Panamera has now been on sale for more
than 15 years. But I think that after
all the attempts to make the Panamera
attractive and change it and design it
better, this still looks better. An
aggressive, muscular, very cohesive
design that just looks nice from
basically all angles. I especially love
the flared out hips and back over the
rear wheel arches. Just really makes
this car look special and aggressive and
muscular. It is cool. Now, I will say
few things are a bit over the top. Maybe
I wouldn't do the giant rear wing.
Although, that's what you get if you
choose the top model, the 63SE
Performance four-door. You get a big old
wing cuz you're getting the highest
performance. You also get massive carbon
ceramic brakes. You can see with these
big gold calipers that really shout
performance. One interesting thing I'm
surprised by is the fender vent, which
looks both cheap and fake. I wouldn't
really expect to see something like that
on a car like this at this level. Not
really the most attractive, but it's
fine. Just a little bit of a complaint
there. Speaking of badging, an
interesting component of this car is in
back where you can see the GT63
badge is trimmed in red, outlined all
around. That's because this is an
e-performance car with the plug-in
hybrid powertrain. So, they take your
standard AMG badges and they give them
red trim to signify the plug-in hybrid
boost. Also interesting in back, you can
see integrated into the bumper, there's
a little cutout panel. Looks like a fuel
door. That's actually the charge port
for the e-performance component of the
car, the plug-in hybrid powertrain in
the rear bumper. Kind of an odd spot,
but that's where it is. Also unusual,
this car, of course, is the color. This
bright green flat color. It's called
green hell Magno, named after the
Nurburg Rings, nickname Green Hell. And
it costs around $10,000
extra on this car on top of a sticker
price that starts right around $200,000.
This car starts around 200 grand. You
add options, you add this paint color,
you're looking at maybe $250, but you're
also getting kind of the ultimate
four-door performance car in existence.
And like the exterior, the interior of
the GT63SE Performance four-door is
pretty cool. I especially like in the
center console the dynamic buttons and
switches which have their own screens
and change when you press them. It's
pretty neat. At the top you can see two
switches. On the upper left you have
your drive mode and you can switch
between it and then the little screen
next to the switch actually changes to
correspond with the drive mode. On the
other side, you have your stereo volume
along with a little screen slider that
shows exactly how loud you're listening
right now. That's a pretty cool feature.
But beyond that, the buttons below these
switches are also really cool. They
change various things about the vehicle
performance, various settings like the
transmission and other drive mode,
suspension, etc. Uh, and when you press
each one, it kind of changes dynamically
to reflect the setting that you have
chosen with your press. And I think it's
really cool. It's way cooler than just a
regular button you press and a light
turns on showing that it's on or
whatever. This is a really neat way to
do all of these settings grouped in the
center console. And this one over on the
right with like a little sound graph,
that is your exhaust. This car
unfortunately doesn't rev when it's in
park, so you can't really hear it. But
when you have the sport exhaust on, big
old V8 sounds pretty cool. And you turn
it on with just the tap of that dynamic
button. And you have more cool dynamic
controls on the steering wheel. You can
see kind of hanging off the bottom right
of the steering wheel, this little dial
adjust your drive mode if you don't want
to use the switch in the center console.
And again, as you change it, the screen
in the center changes its color and what
it's displaying to correspond with your
selection. Over on the other side, you
have a similar control. It's split into
two pieces, and you can select what's
displayed in the upper half and the
lower half, whether it's like the
transmission or the exhaust or whatever.
You tap on it to change what's
displayed, and then you use the little
switches next to the display to actually
adjust the setting. It's all pretty
cool. But back to the center console for
an interesting quirk. I think it's kind
of funny. The little tiny hazard light
button mounted right here in the center.
This dainty little button that's
actually kind of hard to even find and
push to turn on the hazard lights. Now,
surrounding that button, you have most
of your infotainment controls. The
infotainment screen in this car is a
full touchcreen, but in case you want to
control it from the center console, you
can do that with your controls located
here. Although, actually, they're not
all located here. And it's a bit of a
hodgepodge this interior. You can bring
up the map here, the radio, your car
settings, etc. But if you want to go to
the home screen, you got to move down to
this pad in the middle where you scroll
around and move things. The little home
button will bring you there. If you want
to pull up the climate screen in the
center screen, you have to press menu up
here further up, this switch next to the
climate controls to pull up the climate
menu. So, it's a little bit odd.
Although I suspect most people will just
adjust the infotainment screen with the
touchscreen. That's pretty standard.
Now, it is nice to see that your climate
controls are mainly separate from the
infotainment screen. Even though there
is a climate menu in the screen, you can
do basically everything using these
physical switches down below, which I
like to see. Although, if you did have
to use the screen, it's a good one. This
infotainment system is excellent. Really
intuitive, easy to use, easy to figure
out, responsive. one of the very best
infotainment systems in the entire car
industry. I've reviewed it in a lot of
Mercedes-Benz models, and I always have
great things to say. It works well. And
that's also true of the gauge cluster
screen, which has just fantastic
configurability. You can change it to
show a full screen map, dial up
different information in different
sections, make it exactly configured to
what you want. this infotainment screen
and gauge screen is a really fantastic
display of technology that's pretty
modern, pretty configurable, and very
easy to use, which is nice to see. Now,
with that said, I must say the interior
of this car, while it is very nice, top
quality materials and a very purposeful
look all around, it's also starting to
feel maybe just a little bit old,
especially compared to something like
the new BMW M5, which has a very
stylish, modern, kind of crazy interior
with a lot of new style and design to
look cool and cutting edge. This one is
again very nice. top quality materials,
carbon fiber stitching, everything looks
good, but it's a little more
traditional, a little bit more
business-like and purposeful, and kind
of doesn't have some of that pizzazz and
excitement that you see in some more
modern rivals. After all, this car is
getting to be pretty old, 7, 8 years in
production. It isn't quite as new, and
that's reflected in the interior design.
Now, one other thing to mention up here
is the seats, which you can see are
these very thickly bolstered sports seat
affairs. You have holes in the back rest
cut out for a racing harness that can go
through these aluminum holes and thick
bolstering with the AMG logo imprinted
on the headrest. These are some pretty
serious sport seats, although they're
also surprisingly comfortable that
really keep you in place and they
provide good support. They're nice
seats. With that said, one interesting
quirk of the seats, if you go over to
the seat controls on the door panel,
you'll notice your typical seat
controls, which all work just fine,
except for the one for the headrest,
which is separate. In most cars, that
will move the headrest up, down, maybe
back, forward. But here, the headrest is
part of the seat back. And so, this
button actually does nothing. They've
included it. They keep it there, I
guess, cuz on other models it does
something. But here, it's just a blank.
It doesn't move, and it has no function.
You just get to look at what your
headrest button could be if you had
different seats. And next we move into
the back seat where you'll discover just
like up front, you got two very grippy
sport seats back here. There's no rear
bench or you can seat three across.
Instead, two individual bucket seats
with tight bolstering where you really
get plopped in your seat so that on the
racetrack even your rear passengers
aren't sliding around under hard
cornering. Now, in the center between
the seats, you have a couple of kind of
unusual items back here. At the front,
you got climate vents. Pretty standard
stuff. Below that, there's a little
panel that you can open up and it
reveals a very tiny ashtray and
cigarette lighter style outlet for
smoking in back. And even these days in
a German car, you got to have the
ashtrays. Strangely enough, there's also
behind a panel a USBA port back here,
which I'm not really sure people want,
but nonetheless, it's included for the
back seat. It's especially odd because
in between the seats, you have two USBC
ports that are sticking out, very easy
to access, which probably most people
will prefer, and you have a wireless
charging pad for cell phones for rear
seat passengers. Again, rendering the
USBA port a little bit useless. Now,
also between the seats, you can see
there are cup holders here along with a
little switch with forward and backward
arrows. If you flip the switch forward,
you can actually pull the cup holders
out and instead get a little storage
compartment. But if you put the cup
holders back and flip the switch
backwards towards you, it locks them in
place. So, they are officially cup
holders. One thing to note, although it
is relatively roomy back here, decent
space for your head, for your knees,
it's got actually good rear seat room.
You don't get a rear screen of any kind
like you see in other high-end Mercedes
models at this price point. Ultimately,
this isn't an S-Class, even though it's
got a back seat. It's an expensive car.
This is more about performance than
practicality. Practicality is there, but
it's not the focus. So, no rear climate
screen, no rear tablets with
infotainment. You just sit back here and
enjoy the ride. And then we have the
cargo area. Pop open the power rear
tailgate and you can see it is a
tailgate, a hatchback, which is why this
isn't the AMG GT sedan. And you can see
the cargo area in back. Now, it's
actually pretty big back here. You got
decent space, but again, practicality is
absolutely not the focus of this car. It
offers practicality, but it isn't the
main event. One example of that is you
got a really high floor to lift things
to get them into the cargo area. you got
to lift it past the license plate, the
brake lights. It's pretty tall and
heavier items, that's going to be
annoying. Now, when you get into the
cargo area, you can see it's on two
separate levels. So, if you have some
large flat item, it's actually going to
kind of be tilted and some of it won't
be supported in the center. Again, not
really ideal for practicality, but
that's what you get. Under the floor in
this car, there is no additional storage
like you see sometimes in other
practical hatchbacky cars, and you don't
really have extra storage netting over
on the side either. But probably the
biggest proof that practicality isn't
this car's main event is that the rear
seats don't actually fold down for extra
cargo space. So, even though this is a
cargo area rather than a trunk and it's
open to the passenger compartment, you
can't fold the rear seats. Larger items,
sorry, it just doesn't work in this car.
Again, that sort of fits the ethos of
this car, which was like a coupe that
became a four-door. The AMG E63 wagons,
those have all practicality, sort of a
practical performance car. I would say
that this is more of a performance car
with practicality. That's the
distinction. And on that note, it's a
performance car. Let's go see how it
performs. Time to get behind the wheel
of the AMG GT63SE Performance four-door
and see how it drives. All right,
driving the AMG GT63
Performance four-door. And I got to say,
this car is absolutely
sublime. It's absolutely fantastic. It's
kind of funny. Everybody talks about the
famous competition between the M5 and
the RS6 and the E63.
This car is better than all of those. It
is
It is absolutely magnificent with every
single aspect of its existence. Let's
start with power. Unbelievable power
figures. Over 1,000 pound- feet of
torque. 0 to 60 in the mid 2C range with
a V8. You know, you can go faster, full
electric, or you can just have a V8, be
a little slower, and still get the feel
and the sound and the fury, which I
think is what most people in this world
of cars wants. And it delivers.
Mercedes twin turbo V8 is a great
powertrain, though. It's a lot of the
AMG cars, and it's fantastic. Combined
with the electric stuff, it has even
more power. It's even more responsive.
I've always felt it was a tremendously
responsive, very potent engine, kind of
always available of mid-range power.
Now, it's even quicker. It is amazing
just how athletic and dynamic this car
feels on the road. Uh, given its size,
it is a really, really quick car. The
moment you need to change what you're
doing, you put your foot down and the
car is just gone and you can get
yourself in or out of basically any
situation you want. Which leads me to
the next thing, which is steering and
handling. When I first drove the AMG
GT63 four-door six years ago, whatever
it was, I truly felt that it was one of
the best handling four-door cars I have
ever driven. It's been a long time since
then. I have driven a lot of four-door
cars since then. I still feel this way
driving this car. I'm astonished cuz I
figured it's been so long that other
cars probably have usurped it and I'm
probably remembering it as better than
it was. I am not. This car is such an
athlete. Despite its size, both physical
length and just weight, it doesn't give
up that much to the actual twodoor AMG
GT, the like exotic performance car.
It's incredible that that's the reality,
but it is in fact the reality. And the
chassis is just so good. I am truly
shocked by what an athlete and what a
performer this car is when you start
throwing it around corners. It is
really, really amazing to me that
they're able to make a car this
relatively large feel so tossable and so
quick and so fun and so enjoyable. Now,
there are obviously some drawbacks. Ride
quality is one. When you go into any
sort of sport mode, you are reminded of
just how the suspension is able to make
this car feel quite so athletic. And
it's because it's harsh and tight. Uh,
it really feels harsh and tight. It's
not crazy. It's not like a 911 GT3 or
frankly even like a 911 Carrera S. It's
not quite that tight, which is
surprising because it really does such a
good job to make the car handle well.
You'd think they would almost have to go
to that level of discomfort in order to
give you that, but they don't. But
nonetheless, it's not it's not as
comfortable as a comfortable car. This
car definitely you're making some
sacrifices in order to have the
performance level that you want. With
that said, I am astonished at how not
sacrificing you have to be with regards
to uh the sound. This car, it may not
ride as smoothly because of its
performance level, but it really feels
luxury car quiet. You don't hear that
much going on around you. You don't hear
a lot of tire noise, wind noise, etc.
They've made it feel like short of the
suspension, which you could go into
comfort mode and dial back a little bit,
but it's still somewhat harsh. Short of
the suspension, they've really given you
kind of a luxury car feel for this car
in a pretty impressive way. And uh I'm
honestly surprised by it. It really is
amazing. This this car does not get
talked about that much. I think part of
the reason is because its name is so
ridiculous. It's just kind of like this
sort of forgotten corner of the Mercedes
lineup. There's nobody nobody out there
has a poster on their wall of a GT63
four-door e performance. Like that
doesn't M5 or GTS. It doesn't it just
doesn't have like the ring to it. It
doesn't inspire emotion. But when you
drive this car, you are driving one of
the great practical performance cars of
our existence. And I include in that
statement the RS6, the M5, the E63. I
love all those cars. I love this one
more. Um, I am amazed by just how good
this car is. If what you're looking for
is performance with four doors, I
struggle to really feel that there is a
better car on the market. Panamera TYON.
This car delivers just an unbelievable
level of refinement and luxury,
attractive styling in my opinion anyway,
uh, and just amazing performance all
combined into one. The drawback of
course being when you start combining
all of those things into one car, you
got to pay a lot of money. And it is a
lot of money. And so that's the new 2026
Mercedes AMG GT63
Eperformance four-door. This car is not
going to be common. You're not going to
see them everywhere. they are not going
to find many buyers because it's
tremendously expensive and vast overkill
for most people. But if you're looking
for the ultimate performance car with
some practicality, this would be at or
near the very top of my list. It's an
amazing car. And now it's time to give
it a Doug score.
And the Doug score is here. 72 out of
100, which puts the AMG GT63 four-door
e-performance here against some similar
cars. It earns the same score as the
regular GT63 four-door. The e-erformance
adds a point for acceleration, but it
loses a point for value. It's just so
expensive. But regardless, this car is
near the very top of the overall Doug
score spreadsheet. One of the best
overall cars I've ever tested, and it
deserves to be. does an amazing job of
combining performance, luxury,
practicality, and tech in a way that few
other cars ever have. If only they could
do something about its ridiculous name.
