[00:00] while Apple just introduced the iPhone 17e, as the flagship iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro, rather than nearly double the price at 1,099, [00:15] and see what you're sacrificing [relaxing jazz music] this is a smaller, more compact phone. [00:29] It's still a Super Retina XDR display, It's very sharp, it's colorful, so you're not really losing a ton here on the display front. [00:41] Now, the camera, Apple calls it a 48-megapixel camera, as the camera on the iPhone 17 Pro. but actually, there's different sensor sizes [00:55] if you look at just the specs, So, the sensors on the Pro version is much larger, and overall much better than the results [01:10] Also, there's more cameras here, with one of them, and you can do ultra wide The iPhone's cameras have come a long way, [01:23] you're either choosing a single-camera system so let's put these to the test [upbeat music] [01:37] and I'm gonna be taking a standard picture And now, let's do the same shot with the iPhone 17 Pro. [01:50] and you can tell that the image from the Pro Max of a fuzzy look on the 17e's image, [02:02] and it's struggling a little bit more in that lighting, the hair, the face, all around in this picture, And again, even if they have 48-megapixel sensors, [02:19] The Pro Max has a larger image sensor, so again, it can capture brighter images, more data, Now, also, you are getting [02:32] so what that enables is the ability to go super ultra wide, something you just can't get with the 17e. [02:44] and the iPhone 17 Pro enables 4x optical zoom. and get a pretty decently sharp photo isn't necessarily something for photographers, [02:59] accepting their diploma on stage Interestingly enough, this phone actually can take so at 8x, it is technically a digital zoom, [03:13] and so the quality should be similar to optical quality, so let's try that, zoomed of the same subject. These ultra wide and the telephoto work best [03:27] but you can still get a pretty detailed sharp shot, or the 8x optical zoom [03:39] So, low light is, again, one area where the Pro camera So, if we can dim the lights, At the end of the day, when you look at these two results, [03:56] nicer skin tones even on the Pro image in its own right, still a good shot, Triple cameras are very important, [04:12] of why you would want a Pro iPhone This iPhone has features like genlock and even has ProRAW capability, [04:27] and all of that essentially means that this can be used For example, "28 Years Later" by Danny Boyle and people are gonna be using those features [04:41] to produce better films on a smaller device. and you can probably be just fine with the 4K 60 FPS capability video recording on the 17e. [04:55] your traveling, all of that still should look pretty good [relaxing music] except the iPhone 17 Pro has the A19 Pro, [05:12] So, overall, performance will be much better here However, for most people, even some intensive games just fine, [05:26] for the vast majority of consumers. Apple in this iteration has actually stuffed However, this battery is still pretty respectable. [05:41] that you're gonna get much better battery life whereas this thing will probably just last about a day. that actually impact the everyday use. [05:57] However, the USB-C port in the iPhone 17e, compared to what you can transfer with the iPhone 17 Pro. When you look at durability, Apple uses Ceramic Shield 2, [06:14] to protect the displays on this phone. an earlier version of its glass technology, that just isn't as durable as what you get [06:29] One of the big new additions of the 17e So, Apple has had MagSafe for several years. on the back of the phone just like that, like a wallet. [06:43] if you use a magnetic charger. and makes this phone match its 599 price because this ecosystem has so many options. [06:57] magnetic car docks, bike mounts, [lively music] and demanding mobile game on these phones, [07:10] so I can check the temperature. for the iPhone 17e. so it's a little warmer right out of the gate already. [07:26] after running that game for several minutes. So, I'm booting up "Genshin Impact" on this iPhone 17e. the more it will use up that processor. [07:43] so let's do another temperature check on the 17e. and when you get closer to a specific hotspot, Let me also just pick up the back of the phone [07:57] I can feel it. of the phone is very, very hot. Pointing it more close to that area, [08:10] That is significantly warmer than what we checked before. The baseline right now is, for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, All right, let's try the same game, "Genshin Impact," [08:26] and see how the thermals fare over there. This iPhone actually feels significantly cooler [08:39] so let's do a little temperature check. Surface here is reading about remarkably 77. towards the top of the phone. [08:52] on the back of the phone. which was operating at about 95 to 100 degrees, so you already are getting the benefit of just not having, [09:08] but also that cooler performance means and still enjoy a pretty smooth experience. the phone will get hotter, [09:22] and maybe some lag that you'll see as you play, [relaxing music] goes for the very old style notch design, [09:37] on the phone, and it doesn't necessarily look super modern, whereas Apple has Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 Pro, look a little more sleek. [09:51] so when you have live notifications, for example, and it'll show how far your Uber is away [10:03] That functionality just doesn't really exist on this phone, is a big thing that is an underrated feature. Apple has 120 hertz on the screen on the Pro models, [10:17] to refresh 120 times per second. so that's only refreshing 60 times per second, which means everything on the screen just feels [10:31] not as smooth and fluid as it does on the Pro Max. Ultimately, what you're looking for I know a lot of people who don't really care [10:44] They just want a really good baseline iPhone And for those people, is a really great place to start. [10:56] who want all the bells and whistles. they want that triple-camera system, All of those capabilities will draw people [11:10] to a device like the Pro Max or even the iPhone 17 Pro. which has a few extra capabilities over the 17e I also do wanna mention that if you don't care [11:25] most people do, has a little bit better value. and this phone starts at 499, [11:39] as the iPhone 17e, So, for example, it has 120-hertz display It does have a dual-camera system with an ultra wide, [11:54] you're gonna choose what ecosystem you want, and they're all still pretty good phones. the iPhone 17e is available now. [12:09] [soft futuristic music]
