knowledge and number three is practicing the technically exam technique intelligence you can't do anything about it's fixed you're pretty much born with it you know blah blah blah that's fine however knowledge and exam technique other things we can work on when it comes to two weeks before the exam you won't be focusing on the exam technique because two weeks is not a long time to get a lot of knowledge if that makes sense why are you bored from the front I've just been losing my hair overtime it's really sad I get really very insecure about him most admirable quality in people I really like it when people are inclusive when they bring other people in like you know I'm having a pizza night in my room and I know that you know some new persons in the house I would invite them over and really helped me in life there's no really getting getting around that none of my success is anything to do with me it's you know it's a matter of circumstance I happen to be born into a good a good family I happened to be born with decent genes and I didn't squander squander the head the hand that was that I was dealt that's just kind of my general attitude towards any kind of positive quality in people or any kind of any kind of success we can't we can't take any credit for our successes because obviously it's just a result of the circumstances we happen to been born into havens necks might as well cut that long I should have force myself to study and not study three days before a test you talked about the myth of motivation yeah I can't talk about the myth of evasion I'm planning motivation motivations myth right so I'm gonna make a video where I talk about this and won't draw a diagram it's like on this side there's going to be stuff that we we should do we think we should do this okay I think I should revise some chemistry on the other side is actually revising the chemistry so thinking that you should do something and then doing something okay and they're separated by gap right now in the middle of that gap people have this concept of motivation motivation is where you feel like we're in in order to do in order to revise chemistry I have to feel like revising chemistry right so my feeling like doing it is what's important for motivation and this is a complete myth because obviously if I need to revise chemical chemistry then discipline is the way forward right so how I feel about revising chemistry is completely completely irrelevant I do not give a how I feel about chemistry the point is I need to revise chemistry so I'm going to revise chemistry and this discipline is where we cut up motivation completely so for me I don't like using the word motivation I try and scrub it from my vocabulary because I think it's unhelpful anytime I find myself thinking oh I'm unmotivated I think no I'm not motivated because motivation doesn't exist if I need to do something I will do it because I'm disciplined but having said that there are things we can do to increase our motivation because this discipline thing is like an ideal state of affairs I don't subscribe to this ideal all the time I think it's important to have us like an ideal that we're looking at as like this would be the ideal state of affairs but they're not beating ourselves about it too hard so how do you improve your motivation I think there are three ways of doing it number one is if you increase the amount of fun that the activity is number two is if you reduce friction and number three is if you increase the salience of the of the outcome and increasing the salience of the outcome is what a lot of people do so for example I've got messages from people saying they watch my videos cuz that motivates them that our life as a med student at Cambridge is awesome I want to get to Cambridge or people watch if snow or watch you know other YouTube youtubers my brother used to have a wall paper of Oxford as is like desktop wallpaper because that used to increase the salience of the outcome it's like ah the outcome is so important to me that I'm happy to do this thing that is unpleasant like revising for my exams that's one way of motivating yourself another way of motivating yourself is making it more fun so some of you might know I run a company called Six med we get lots of emails it quite boring replying to those emails if they're like logistical things like oh I'd like a refund I'd like to change my course take the stand the other it's fun replying students I do that all the time but it's boring replying to admin emails so if I need to reply to add an emails for two hours I'd go to cluster get myself a flat white make it more fun make it a fun process put some music and reply to the emails you're making it more fun but oh ho Zahra holla'd Annika recommended you to me sick I love Annika he's a great guy I want to do a singing collab with him did you think he would get into Cambridge did you know anyone who went there before yeah I knew a couple of people who weren't there before I thought I had a reasonable chance but it's always it's always just a chance at Cambridge I got I was very lucky to get him is it easy to get a job after you anymore because now we're at the size where you have to stop charging people you've got to pay v88 in corporation tax and all this stuff so yeah I used to make a reasonable amount money from six med I'm not really sure anymore I don't really care about making money to be honest a little I'm comfortable enough where the money I've made from six Medan for my family and that you know I do what I want to focus on is getting good at medicine being a good doctor and be just making YouTube videos and trying to give stuff away for free and people even jinns any stories I'm not actually sure not sure I do Hannah says what was your favorite a level maths say hi Ava hi Ava the people look down on non Oxbridge do you people look down on all three people no of course not how do I learn five lectures in one day for an exam depends what they are what do you think of doing specialist training abroad not for me personally but a lot of people are doing it oh gosh so many so many comments this important myth you don't need to be well-rounded if you want to get into Oxford Cambridge all you need to do is be a massive massive nerd and be really good at your subject that's all there are looking for they're not looking for well-rounded people to have like gradient and diploma diploma in piano and like Team GB rowing all that stuff is cool but they're also many looking for massive nerds so if you're a massive nerd then you'll do well to come to Oxford Cambridge how do I go in less flustered in exams treat them like a game exams are a game I've written about this on my on my website do you have a girlfriend yes I do how difficult is it to practice your religion was telling me you need not that hard really depends who you hang out with if you hang out with the Islamic society people and most of your friends are a nice dog then it's very easy to practice your religion how to be more confident in public speaking oh just do it I guess how do you deal with feeling incompetent and I never really feel incompetent there's an important thing there's an important thing as well that I think people people struggle with the duration with it shouldn't struggle with I think confidence and compelling a confidence comes as a result of competence if you are good at doing stuff then you'll be confident they're doing it but confidence is like domain domain-specific UK me so I've got some friends who would say that oh I'm generally in the friends would say that they are generally unconfident people right they would say that they're generally unconfident and that would kind of permeate through all aspects of their life I would say I'm not confident at dancing because I'm not very good at dancing but I'm pretty confident at the stuff that I know I'm good at so like I've you confidence and competitors being very domain-specific I would never say that oh I'm incompetent generally or in confident or non-confident generally because I think that's an unhelpful
