Now, would that be sense? I first became aware of this survey because I saw some arguments and controversy about apparently this survey asked if people are interested in
AI translations and I've talked about this quite a bit. I will get into that in a second, but I wanted to look at the survey. I was actually going to just do the survey, but I was like,

how much would you be willing to pay for one volume? Note, there are currently no plans to implement such a feature as MangaPlus by Shueisha. So, a current manga volume, at least the last time I checked, I bought a physical copy. I think you can get one for like
$9.99, sometimes it can be $8. That's a physical copy, okay, with the actual paper and everything. So, I think $10, no. I would say, honestly, because
it's digital, it would be a lot easier to replicate and distribute. I would say $5 is a fair price, if you wanted to buy something. But, most likely, many would probably say, I would not purchase it, but $5, I think, is fair.
What motivates you to start reading a new manga? Because I like anime, that's one. Because it's trending. You know most of the larkers on TikTok and everything, the past 2020s, click on that one. Because I like the genre, because it was high
rankings because of new sterilization and because of like, uh, basically, I've been reading manga most of my life, I just randomly search and discover new things when I want to read a certain
genre, there you go, how satisfied are you with the quality of translations you currently read, Well, I don't read a lot of Marvel Plus translations, so I can't really say. I'm a little bit indifferent.
I'm going to take an educated guess. Knowing what I know about certain translations is not probably good. I'm going to probably say two. I'm going to say two. If I'm wrong, forgive me. What is your opinion on AI translations?
Here we go. So, this is the one that's causing a lot of controversy. That's getting people in their panties in a twist. So, AI translations are quite a controversial topic for a variety of reasons. Let me take a sip of my coffee before I get into this.
Okay, so, basically, obviously, AI is a touchy subject. People get very upset when you're pro-AI and the anti-AI folks and all that. It's a nuclear bomb, honestly, if you touch the subject matter. But, honestly, I'm not scared to really talk about this. If people hate me for it, they hate me for it.
But I've been very vocal on translations and localization for the last year and a half, two years now, basically, about how translators, localizers, have been outright damaging and destroying anime and manga translations.
And there is a reason why there's a lot of people that are more pro-AI translation now, because of the amount of damage that people with a gen note continuously push. So I think that in general, there is definitely a lot of people that don't care anymore if AI is translating things, because they're so done with the agenda and changing and just the absolute butchering of Japanese culture, that I feel like there is more people leaning towards being AI positive for translations than actually negative.
that's at least from what I have seen and there is a lot of people that are very silent supporters that won't vocally say this because obviously the cancel culture around it but I do think that there's a lot more people leaning towards the pro AI translation than not now obviously there is
negatives when it comes to AI translations I'm not going to ask for is it first off AI translations can be bad and very off and I think that if you were to do AI translations you would need someone to be able to overlook what the AI is translating, and more or less try to correct it. Basically,
just make sure everything is properly worded and there not broken sentences and stuff like that but I think that having one person do that you know wouldn be a problem but I do think in general
AI translations, it's, regardless if you dislike them or you like them, it's probably going to be the future, like, I'm just, I'm going to say it, like, companies are going to use any method they
possibly can to cut costs and make and save money, and AI translations aren't going to be that type of cost-saving measure, where they can cut out translators, they don't have to pay them anymore, they don't have to deal with them taking time off or whatever, they just run
it through an AI and there you go. And I feel like regardless of whatever stance you choose, AI eventually is going to be pushed into translation. But as for my personal stance, I lean more towards a positive AI, it just needs someone
to overview it, and then a positive one. If it has nobody overlooking it, then I think that I lean more to the negative side, but I don't really mind it.
So I'm just going to, I'm going to say positive. I see the negatives and positives here, but there is some nuance to this conversation that a lot of people just don't really want to talk about. Which of the following words or terms gives you a positive feeling or makes you excited?

yeah, shounen manga, shoujo manga, and anime, that's, that's really the main ones, that kind of like, give me a positive feeling, uh, which new features would you most like to see added to the app, choose up to three, So we have official merchandise shop, achievements and trophy system.
An official merchandise shop wouldn't be bad. Reading streaks, reading statistics, better search, reading lists and collections, community reviews, offline reading improvements, more notifications, an option to send a vote for...
Huh, an option to send in a vote for weekly Shonen Jump reader survey. If you would have asked me this question, like, four years ago, I might have been all in on, yeah, they should do this.
I would be like, yeah, they should add an option for people overseas to be able to send in a vote for Weekly Shonen Jump's reader survey. But with the current environment that we are in with anime and manga and just how there's a lot of, like, COVID anime and manga tourists,
I think that this would be more detrimental to anything else. It would outright destroy the Shonen Jump magazine landscape. I really think it would. And let me give some explanation here. So, basically, Japan, when Weekly Showing Up releases their magazine, and there's, like, rankings for the individual chapters that come out, they're ranked by the Japanese Reader Survey. And depending on how well they've read in the survey determines if the series gets asked or not.
And there's been a lot of theories. One that really seems to me to my core is that Red Hood got canceled a few years back. Basically, if overseas fans were able to potentially voice their opinion, Red Hood might not have gotten canceled.
but the thing here is that Japan is more or less responsible for why things get axed or don't get axed because it's the viewership within Japan and so if the actual reader survey was offered to everyone
it would mean that anyone around the world could be able to send in their votes which would create, I feel like, issues with bonding and stuff like that there would be a lot of fake reviews and stuff it would 100% happen
And I also feel like reviews as well would be outright to bombard and review bomb certain things as well, surveys for certain series that people just don't like. And I feel like it would be taken advantage of and destroyed and it would completely destroy the purpose of what the reader survey is Now they probably have systems set up in place to be able to kind of circumvent this within Japan but I feel like opening up to the entire world would be disastrous
And so, this gets into the, like, interesting topic of this, right? If this question was asked to me four years ago, I probably would have been, yeah, we need to do this. But now that I know I'm a little bit more
mature or less naive about the situation with anime among this industry, I don't think this would be a good thing. So, it pains me to say that I wouldn't have a voice, but I also don't want anyone else to, like, have a voice that has just absolute, you know, like, bad intentions for anime and manga.
I'd rather just stay Japanese and have the Japanese audience be able to decide, even if there is things that I love that get asked. It's just, it's a double-edged sword, but it's the price of keeping anime and manga like it always has been, something that stays true to itself.
So, I'm just going to say community reviews. I feel like this could also lead into, uh, probably review bombing, but that's a much better option than whatever this is. Have you read webtoons before? Uh, yes, I have read them often, actually. I do.
Do you use other manga or webtoon platforms and apps besides Manga Plus by Shiraisha, including piracy sites? Um, okay, so, I've used, I've used BookWalker, but not really often.
K-Manga is absolute garbage. Censorship everywhere. Let's see what I like. I actually like that. Um, I guess I've used Tossus as well. Um, obviously Webtoon. I've used Vizmanga.
I do not like the Crunchyroll manga. An absolute dogshit. Completely terrible. And obviously you're wanting me to include piracy sites here. And, uh... I just...

Take what works from them as a way to improve your site and service. I feel like that's fair. I feel like that's a very fair thing to say.
I don't think there is any bad thing here. Just, yeah, look at a piracy site, see what it's doing correctly, and replicate it. I feel like that is the best way to do it. There is a lot of ways that they can learn from it
instead of just being outright nuclear and nuking the sites off the internet. But that's my takeaway. Oh, wait, actually, another one. Recruit fan translators from Piracy Sites to officially translate some manga.
It bridges the gap and allows good PR. I think that's good. Yeah, I think that's good with Easy to Be Said. So I want to submit this.
