[0:00] today we're going to explain healing [0:01] Mythic Plus at four different levels of [0:04] complexity starting with the very Basics [0:06] explaining what healing is like as a [0:07] beginner and then how it should progress [0:09] over time as you start pushing higher [0:11] keys in your journey you gain experience [0:13] as you develop a better understanding of [0:15] what it actually means to be a Healer [0:17] because at the highest level healing is [0:19] kind of weird and in some ways almost [0:21] backwards but more on that later some of [0:23] the information we'll cover today comes [0:25] directly from our courses at skillcap [0:27] tocom our website teaches class [0:29] fundamentals roll specific tips Advanced [0:31] dungeon guides mistakes to avoid and [0:33] much more you can even try everything [0:35] out risk-free since if you don't [0:37] actively rank up while using skill cap [0:39] then you can get your money back no [0:40] questions asked for a limited time [0:42] skillcap members also get one free VOD [0:44] review per month recently mir's reviewed [0:47] a 3500 Demon Hunter and gave 30 minutes [0:49] of gameplay analysis that's one of the [0:51] best players of all time breaking down [0:53] gameplay and providing personalized [0:55] advice a pretty sweet deal so what are [0:57] you waiting for click the link in the [0:58] description below to get the r you've [1:00] always wanted now let's explain what [1:02] healing feels like for most beginners [1:05] okay so maybe something went terribly [1:06] wrong in your life and you decided you [1:08] want to heal Mythic plus we're totally [1:10] kidding of course we love healers anyway [1:12] if you are a beginner you are probably [1:15] paying a lot of attention to health bars [1:17] while having this feeling that they [1:18] always need to be topped I mean that's [1:20] your job right you do the hard work to [1:22] make sure your team is always safe and [1:23] there's no safer feeling than having [1:25] everyone at 100% HP at this point [1:27] healing feels like an arcade game you [1:29] see a bar go down and you want to [1:31] instantly go back up you know that there [1:32] are different categories of heels and [1:34] you know how to use them you have your [1:36] maintenance heels like Hots or Shields [1:38] which you know to keep up all the time [1:40] and then when one person drops low you [1:42] have your spot heel which you can use to [1:44] top them quickly if more than one person [1:46] is dying you then have an AOE heal right [1:49] now we're not too concerned about Mana [1:51] because we can just drink anyway and you [1:53] probably treat your cooldowns like [1:55] powerups maybe you notice someone about [1:57] to die and so you reactively pop a [1:59] healing cool down to save the day at [2:01] this point healing seems pretty [2:02] straightforward this is healing in its [2:04] non-GMO organic form but then you [2:07] realize something wait I need to be [2:08] doing damage too after all we're playing [2:11] Mythic plus and we have a timer to be [2:13] and every time you watch A Healer on [2:14] Twitch they seem to be doing damage all [2:16] the time but this seems kind of weird [2:18] right I mean how can you even find the [2:19] time to always do damage when you have [2:21] health bars to top as a beginner the [2:23] simplest way to solve this problem is to [2:25] just damage Whenever there isn't a [2:27] health bar to Top This makes total sense [2:29] and it works if you play Disc priest or [2:31] mistweaver monk you have a cheat code to [2:33] skip this step automatically but no [2:35] matter what as long as you're hitting a [2:36] priority Target while balancing out your [2:38] heals then you're doing a good job and [2:40] now it seems like we're progressing we [2:42] started with this basic idea that we [2:43] need to be healing and now we've [2:45] progressed to doing damage as long as we [2:47] have some general knowledge about trash [2:48] and boss mechanics we will feel like [2:50] we're doing our job with just keeping [2:51] health bars top reactively using [2:53] cooldowns and doing our damage whenever [2:55] it's convenient so how can we do better [2:57] let's dive into level two and if you [2:59] were paying attention you probably [3:01] noticed we were missing something from [3:02] level one it's our CC and [3:05] interrupts okay priest we know you don't [3:08] have a kick but pay attention anyway mob [3:11] control as a Healer is more important [3:13] than most people realize and we have to [3:15] go back to economics 101 to understand [3:17] why we all have to come to terms that [3:19] DPS players have well Egos and they can [3:22] be a bit sensitive World of Warcraft is [3:24] a game about teamwork helping your [3:26] fellow key Pusher achieve their goals [3:28] and for DPS they want one thing and one [3:30] thing only to get those juicy pink [3:32] parses and if they don't then they're [3:34] going to get their feelings hurt and we [3:35] don't want that so how does economics or [3:38] being healer have to do with DPS wanting [3:40] to do more damage well you can think of [3:43] every Global cooldown as having a cost [3:45] so for a mage to give up a damage Global [3:47] in order to CC or interrupt they're [3:49] losing out on a global that they could [3:50] use to do damage this is what we call [3:53] opportunity cost and for DPS this cost [3:55] is higher than it is for us now you [3:57] might be thinking skill cap is saying d [3:59] DPS should never kick let's be clear DPS [4:02] should be using their kicks and stops [4:04] but there are a few reasons why your [4:05] interrupt is extra valuable as a Healer [4:07] especially in this intermediate level [4:09] number one sometimes you can't even [4:11] trust DPS to use their kicks in the [4:13] first place number two by kicking your [4:15] group can do more damage remember lower [4:17] opportunity cost number three your CC [4:20] causes everyone to take less damage [4:22] which means less healing for you and as [4:24] an added bonus now you can do more [4:26] damage safely it's kind of a neat little [4:28] way you can see secretly carry in the [4:30] background and speaking of carrying at [4:32] this point you're probably doing a [4:33] better job with your healing rotation [4:35] and being smarter about how you [4:36] distribute heals you're probably also [4:37] used to the dungeons by now which also [4:39] means you're thinking about cooldown [4:40] Cadence remember back in level one you [4:42] were pressing your CDs very reactively [4:44] not really planning to use them for any [4:46] specific reason just as an emergency [4:48] button when someone drops low but now [4:50] you have more dungeon knowledge and are [4:52] starting to feel the actual strength of [4:53] your abilities and because of this you [4:55] know how to plan your cooldowns based [4:57] around the scripted events of the [4:59] dungeon you're no longer Panic pressing [5:01] your CDs randomly but instead saving [5:03] them for very specific moments maybe you [5:04] know a boss will do a ton of AOE damage [5:06] so you plann your biggest raid cool down [5:08] in advance or if you play a class like [5:10] Resto Druid you know when and how to [5:13] properly ramp your heels in order to get [5:14] those big flourishes or maybe you know [5:16] there's a boss that does a big one shot [5:18] so you see who they're [5:20] targeting and you use your external to [5:22] save the day this is what happens when [5:25] you start to get better at wow you [5:26] realize that planning for the future [5:28] really pays off the further you can plan [5:30] your moves out in advance the easier [5:31] Things become all right let's go back to [5:33] the drawing board we're still keeping [5:35] health bars topped after all that's our [5:37] job but now we're using our cooldowns in [5:39] a more logical way saving them for when [5:41] they're actually needed because of this [5:43] we're now more comfortable at dealing [5:44] damage especially now since we're [5:46] focusing on Mob control but we're still [5:48] on level two how could we possibly do [5:51] any better than this let's graduate to [5:54] level three and here's where things get [5:55] a bit weird every experienced healer [5:59] starts devel veloping this strange [6:00] superpower that allows them to see a [6:02] little bit into the future but instead [6:04] of being able to do anything useful with [6:06] his power like winning the lottery it [6:07] gives them the ability to feel when [6:09] someone is going to die because the more [6:11] you heal the more you can feel the [6:13] weight of your HPS and you can feel it [6:15] side by side to how much damage someone [6:17] will take at this point it sounds like [6:19] we're discussing some spiritual hippie [6:20] stuff but bear with us we don't have to [6:23] tell you that World of Warcraft isn't a [6:25] balanced game some classes are made of [6:26] titanium and diamonds and could survive [6:28] a nuclear event without pressing a [6:30] button but other classes they'll die to [6:32] a small Breeze as a Healer we can't [6:35] change game balance but what we can do [6:36] is try and change outcomes which will [6:38] involve some proactive play and this is [6:41] the theme of level three becoming more [6:42] proactive in order to make smarter [6:44] decisions this is the exact reason why [6:46] omnic CD is so powerful since it allows [6:48] you to make the best decisions for [6:50] proactive gameplay remember back at [6:52] level one we were only using our [6:53] cooldowns as emergency buttons but then [6:55] as we gain knowledge of every dungeon we [6:57] learned to prioritize them for specific [6:59] moments [7:00] and now at level three our goal is to [7:02] proactively use our cooldowns on [7:03] specific targets making sure that we [7:05] trade efficiently and minimize overlaps [7:08] because of this we need to understand [7:09] that some classes need a bit more [7:10] babysitting and even some players [7:13] themselves need more attention before [7:14] every dungeon starts you should be [7:16] thinking about who is most vulnerable to [7:18] damage some classes will be squishy and [7:20] others are going to be passively tanky [7:22] then there's even some classes who can [7:24] be both depending on the skill of the [7:25] player for instance Mages have an entire [7:28] arsenal of defensive cooldowns but if [7:29] they aren't actually using them then [7:31] they're going to be no better than a [7:33] level one boar in elwin forest and this [7:35] is how Omni CD comes into play because [7:38] it allows you to dictate your externals [7:39] and raid cooldowns in the most efficient [7:41] way possible when there is no [7:42] communication you now have the [7:44] information to fill in any defensive [7:45] gaps being ready to trade before the [7:48] damage happens and to take it a step [7:49] further you'll even use Omni CD to fill [7:51] in the gaps of your team's kicks and [7:53] interrupts by passively monitoring who [7:55] has their stops ready and who doesn't [7:56] you can even avoid overlapping mob [7:58] control even even when there is no voice [8:00] communication and if you do have the [8:02] luxury of playing in voice omnic CD [8:04] makes you the conductor of your own [8:05] Orchestra you become the inventory [8:07] manager of your group's cooldown budget [8:09] which might seem like a stressful task [8:11] at first but is actually the best way to [8:13] keep a calm ahead because you can plan [8:15] more in advance and speaking of planning [8:17] in advance you are now more aware of [8:19] your Mana this is one place that often [8:21] gets overlooked by healers if you are a [8:23] druid for instance you have probably [8:24] realized by now that innervate is almost [8:26] best used on coold down even when you [8:28] are high on Mana to begin with if you [8:30] plan to ramp your heels then you know to [8:32] use inate to proactively conserve Mana [8:35] as a shaman you've learned by now to [8:37] plan around tidal waves realizing that [8:39] you can't just slam your heels without [8:41] weaving in rip tides here and there it [8:42] might not seem like a big deal but [8:44] anytime you spend drinking is time you [8:46] don't spend doing damage which will slow [8:48] the run down again we have to think [8:49] about opportunity costs now we've [8:51] leveled up again instead of just playing [8:53] cool down usage we're now dictating it [8:55] by being proactive even with our Mana [8:58] but since we started we're still keeping [8:59] health bars topped and maybe we're not [9:01] super confident on when exactly to do [9:03] damage safely we said level three was [9:06] weird but level four is where things [9:08] become [9:09] counterintuitive there's something in [9:11] World of Warcraft that we've called the [9:12] goldilux problem and it's everywhere [9:14] here's how it works with healers some [9:17] healers are too cold they want to sit in [9:18] the back and vape with their heels alone [9:20] damage that's for the DPS but then [9:22] there's the timer and the realization [9:24] that slacking on damage could mean a [9:25] depletion on the flip side other healers [9:28] are too hot with their damage they want [9:30] to press W with their group and pump the [9:32] meters while this can definitely be fun [9:34] it's sometimes a bit Reckless and can [9:35] end in a disaster if people die because [9:37] of it these players sometimes try to [9:39] copy what they see on Twitch because [9:41] there it seems like everyone is pumping [9:42] with their group but it's important to [9:44] remember that healers like royben theer [9:47] and elmir are playing with highly [9:49] coordinated groups everyone is cycling [9:51] interrupts and stops pressing defensives [9:54] and actively avoiding damage playing [9:55] with good DPS is an absolute luxury as a [9:57] Healer and you can't really copy paste [10:00] play styles from twitch into everyday [10:01] groups while it might be tempting to [10:03] play aggressive remember that group [10:05] stability is going to be more important [10:06] than doing marginally more damage if [10:08] your group isn't playing in a [10:09] coordinated way but you might be [10:11] wondering how do I know when it's the [10:13] right time to be aggressive because [10:15] obviously you can't be cold and need to [10:17] do more than just heal to beat the timer [10:19] to solve the gold Deux problem you need [10:20] to rethink how and when you use healing [10:23] cooldowns there's a tendency for healers [10:25] to hold on to their healing cooldowns [10:26] assuming that they will be needed for an [10:28] upcoming boss thinking that because [10:30] damage isn't going to be high then it's [10:32] better to save them for later when [10:33] damage will be high but by doing so it's [10:36] possible that they are losing out on [10:37] multiple chances to press their [10:38] cooldowns these dead spaces might seem [10:40] minor in isolation but over the course [10:42] of an entire run they can cost time this [10:45] is because cooldowns are more than just [10:46] survivability tools but also act as [10:48] safety nets for offensive play watch [10:50] here as royin presses flourish on this [10:52] trash pack which allows her to play more [10:55] aggressive with damage she does this [10:57] knowing that the cooldown is basically a [10:58] throwaway anyway and won't be needed [11:00] until much later and let's go back to [11:01] where we started remember this whole [11:03] time we were concerned about keeping [11:04] health bars topped well here's where we [11:06] can break that rule the best healers [11:08] realize that health bars don't always [11:09] need to be at 100% HP if there's not [11:12] going to be any damage in the next few [11:13] seconds then you can afford to be more [11:15] aggressive and only heal when it's [11:16] actually needed if there is no future [11:18] damage about to happen it's fine for [11:19] someone to hover low and let your Hots [11:21] do the work this is why healing is so [11:23] weird in dragonflight the game isn't [11:25] really designed around rot damage [11:26] anymore like it used to be but instead [11:28] these big isolated events where someone [11:30] might get one shot but as long as you [11:32] know when those events are going to [11:33] happen you have a much better time [11:35] knowing how and when to balance your [11:36] healing job with the other five jobs you [11:38] didn't know you signed up for when you [11:39] decided to become a Healer and as a [11:42] reminder we're continuing to roll out [11:44] brand new courses at skill cap.com you [11:46] will learn everything you need to rank [11:47] up in
