hey everybody looks like we're live it's always a little bit of a a question whether or not that's going to work properly um hey but today the main topic of discussion is the Google gener or search gener of exper experience um I recently did a video where I shared with you what uh kind of what that looked like um early on how we saw content being featured in a way similar to Rich Snippets um except now you have really three or four times the opportunity to get your content to show up um right there in the what do they call it the AI powered snapshot um and so anyway today what I wanted to do is I wanted to take questions but I also wanted to you know share my screen I've got my phone here that I can literally share my screen with you um and just poke around um so really I want to invite you to go ahead and type in here what do you want me to search what do you want me to try what do you want me to do um as well as sort of what questions you have we've gotten the chance to poke around quite a bit um and I have some thoughts and some insights I think about kind of where this takes us going forward um and so anyway uh I'd love to answer questions especially for those of you who have not had a chance yet to get into the Google labs and be able to test it out for yourself so I've got Nathan with me today and we're happy to take your questions so thank you for being here I I know there's always a little bit of a lag and so uh the things I'm saying now it's going to take like 30 seconds to get to you and then it'll you know your questions will get back to us so feel free to Jump Right In um I guess in the meantime if you watched our recent video about this you probably already know that I just am not terribly worried I get a lot of questions or a lot of comments we'll say on these YouTube videos of people saying well of course you're going to say that of course you're going to say that you know um blogging is dead what are you even doing talking about this stuff the the reality is this um one I choose to remain optimistic like always because there's always opportunity we we need to be willing to adapt we need to be ready to adapt as needed and that's what we're doing and that's what we're going to do the biggest problem happens when people see a change coming and they get scared or they get paralyzed and they do nothing right it's like a deer who sees a car coming and they get stuck staring at those headlights and they freeze right or you've seen those um those goats that like they fall over that's that's probably more effective it's probably better to fall over then it totally freeze but like you don't get anywhere when you just fall over and play dead every time something scary happens and what I see coming is different it's going to be disruptive but we've had a lot of disruptive things happen in the past everyone says well this time it's different it's different AI is going to change everything maybe it's going to change a lot of things but people will still need content and um I do think the biggest change that we're going to see um and that I think we're already seeing we've been Google's been pushing this with their updates over the last year but what we're already seeing and what we're going to see more with this is commodity content doesn't work as easily as it used to just producing a whole bunch of content thousands of articles on a website um without adding anything new to the internet it doesn't work the way it used to which means that blogging is a mean to make a really great income on a topic that you know absolutely nothing about personally is just going to get a lot harder so blogging is probably like just blogging as its own thing I think is going to become much more of a um of a thing for people who are passionately talking about the thing that they know about the thing they care about something that they do that doesn't mean you have to be the worldclass expert but it means you need to be you need to know you need to be doing that thing or um you know avidly researching about it I think it's just going to be really really hard to fake it and that's fine the other thing I think that it does is it promotes or it really pushes us more toward being content creators not just bloggers and I mean we've been saying that for years now we've been trying to convince you that you should be making video content too and that you know being engaged in um other forms of media are only going to be helpful so I think we're going to see more of that but there's still so much money to be made and so much opportunity to be had uh in the space of content creation including blog content honestly YouTubers should be also building a website and building a brand around that and creating awesome blog resources on their website it makes you way more money than just having YouTube channel and bloggers should probably be creating some video content uh but that's not new anyway we've got um things coming in here questions coming in yeah I have one here from Steve Jaba who says I'm very curious to see what would display for promo code keywords uh in the new AI snapshot so let's take a look at that so I'm thinking like let me share my screen here like discount codes is kind of what I'm imagining you're asking about um maybe like military discounts or discounts I my immediate thought went to like little SE like a Pizza coupon like that sort of thing um let's see for some reason I don't think you guys are seeing what's actually on my screen it's just showing the Google page so let me fix this real quick sorry about that um um while you were looking at that oh looks like maybe we're making some progress here but Carn says what's your overall feelings about sge now I saw your video that it's about Snippets new thoughts um well over the last few weeks as we've been able to play with it there have been some cool things that we've seen um it's been kind kind of interesting to see other people's thoughts in the industry but um I originally it was something like oh wow this is there's so much new stuff here and it is definitely a new uh it it's a new format for some of this information but it's been kind of interesting to see what Google is doing and how they're utilizing information they already have um or uh formats they've already had like Google Snippets and how they are Translating that and then putting it into to this AI snapshot so overall I think that there are it opens up some new opportunities uh for blogers and I think we're still pretty optimistic about it um there's some opportunity to be potentially featured at the top of the page even if you don't win a Google snippet or even if um you know even if you were on the first page so there's some just different opportunities that are coming about that we just didn't have before and I guess the question is well how effective will those be you know if you are kind of featured at the top of the page in the AI snapshot what will that mean as far as clickthrough we're not 100% sure yet but I would say being featured up there is better than not being featured up there um so anyway there's just a couple thoughts um yeah um and and we'll go back to the first one but before that um some additional thoughts I have about the search generative experience so far the only real change is this snapshot right excuse me um and this snapshot realistically I think is more helpful for users which a lot of people are afraid of right but I think the things that make it more helpful for users don't necessarily mean that people go to blog content less overall in fact um if anything I think it encourages people to dive deeper so um here we'll use the F the example um that we were just given which is I searched promo code that was it um and Google says gives you an answer here's what a promo code is you know it's an alpha numeric string that online stores offer to encourage purchase on their website so it's giving us a definition this is the thing with keywords by the way when you just put in a really broad keyword without any anything else to tell Google what you want to know about it um Google's always had to kind of shoot in the dark and try to guess at what you're what you're searching for right so they give us a definition and then they helpfully say here's some ways to find promo codes and they give you this list right well where did this list come come from if we click on this little button in the upper right um and you can see right here they're featuring these three four five six seven um different articles uh being one of those first few I think is best CU you're you're visibly seen um but then if we click this little button right it breaks it down it tells us like oh well this list all of these um items in the list are Fe are shown on these four articles um this one is shown in this article this one's shown in this article so Google's actually kind of citing their Source but then since we asked a generic question and really we get this all the time right but especially where we asked kind of a generic or we did a generic search Google has these follow-ups here right um this is kind of like the future of people also ask this is I think where we're going right how to get a promo code how to write a promo code uh how do I get a PlayStation discount code for some reason and that one um is searched frequently enough that Google gave it its own and if I click on one of these it will do that search but it will do it notice how it kept my original search snapshot it does it within the context of the previous search I can also sorry I can also um ask let's see it that disappeared is that the ask followup yeah okay so I see that on my original on the original searches second one yeah but typically um you'll get that option see if I can go back so if I generate that original search again it's got this ask a followup I can click that and I can do an additional search um you know how to um come up with good promo codes people won't guess that's a much more specific question right if I'm writing a promo code for my own online product and I want to come up with a good promo code that's not obvious like um 20 off that's like oh yeah 20% off um now Google's going to answer this but within the context of my original question so I could have said how to write good ones people won't guess and Google would have known I was talking about promo codes these are these are all I think helpful things that will help users want to dig in deeper now here they didn't anything um which is interesting that's actually the first time I've seen that tells me that um Google came up with this but it wasn't specifically citing specific articles right um and as I look at the top search results nine tricks for getting the most out of online coupon codes how to find promo codes basically what Google's kind of telling me here is there's not a great resource on the web for writing unguessable promo codes um oh here's one uh six tips to make promo codes work includes here like um keep your customers guessing don't be too obvious that's a little bit that's kind of on point but it's just not like entirely there so Google didn't site anything because even in the search results we're not seeing a good good answer so there's kind of your the first and second questions a little bit answered I it's just the snapshot right right cuz after that it's just normal Surfers and I did notice as you were talking Ricky after you generated the second uh kind of the second part of that question the ask a followup just stayed there's kind of that bar along the bottom of your screen it's down that just kind of stayed there um so that it looks like it was still there it just didn't generate in the same spot as it did on the first see this is a little bit of users we got to get used to the new stuff okay um let's see uh the next one I see I'm noticing big changes for local SEO only the first four organic sites are shown all other options on mobile are images as anyone else seen this update um let's try that let's do let's come up with a good local search I'm going to share my phone here okay so um all right if I do a local search like uh um uh best or let's see seafood near me right so I get um I get the map well first of all it's generating an AI experience there we go um I'm getting four I got five here um at the top and then I got I think this is what he's talking about right they're not really just images but they're just a short little um it's not is I don't know these top ones are featured more I I would say they have like the star rating they have how many reviews they have they have the little dollar pricing um thing that we have these other ones down below are well these aren't local search results really these are um you know your Yelp your trip advisor um that are ranking the top ones in my area so it makes sense that those would look a little a little bit different and then when I scroll down below that I get normal search results so this stuff down here is not part of sge this down here is just the normal Google search results and isn't changing so if I just search this did a normal Google Search right now this is what I would get um you know I'd get these images here um with kind of the schema markup stuff for the things from Google um reviews uh address that kind of stuff um you know I get the map search results which I wonder if that'll look different um well here here we go we're seeing it here in sge you're going to get the map but and it just looks a little different but down below that we're seeing the current results and that's the map with all that stuff I I guess what I'm saying is I'm not seeing anything that's dramatically different and then if I click into the map um it should take me yeah into like a Google Maps listing and stuff where I can actually go now when I do local searches for like restaurants or whatever I usually search it in Google Maps specifically yeah um but basically what I'm saying is I'm not seeing anything dramatically different y another one here uh from Philip I'm curious how the affiliate keywords are displayed like back like uh best X or X comparison in the ym y l area specifically um so maybe like medical some sort of medical product recommendation or something like that so let's do um best pacemakers for um athletes there we go so we'll let it generate an AI I think this will automatically generate right now it's like having me click the button if I want it or not so I mean what we're getting is something very similar to again um non ym searches um it's it's going to tell you I'm not surprised here that it tells you right here there's the AI generated disclaimer like go to your doctor they're going to tell you um but then what do they do they site a few specific websites where they get these um wow all four of them are the same it's just giving you some specific uh specific things another thing in the ym space would be like Financial so like best credit cards for college student students that would be a huge keyword right let's see oh I don't even get an AI powered snapshot um for that one at this point best credit cards for business owners nope they're not giving me anything in the credit card I did De one best credit cards for travel and it looks like it is going to generate me one for that search we'll try that one huh interesting I have noticed that there will be times when you'll search something up and then I'll search something up and our AI snapshots will be slightly different yeah um which makes sense but uh interesting I just added an s best credit cards for travel and it gave me one so here we go um but again I'm getting something very similar I'm getting a list it's not it doesn't have bullets right like a normal bulleted list would have in fact it's giving me each one plus a little bit of additional information right there and then it's citing the websites it got it from I don't think it's substantially different for affiliate um or for ym versus non ym uh if we did something like uh best bicycle for 5 Mile commute it's going to I mean right now we're seeing the snippet with a list but now it's going to generate one for me um anyway I I just okay here's one where it looks a little bit different right and each one of these is actually a link um rather than it just being an item in the list right it's actually linking me to where I can go buy the this bike um and so there's that so the other thing that it gives me here in the AI powered snapshot is it's giving me some specific um considerations if I'm picking a bicycle like I didn't I just said best bicycle for f mile commute it's like okay but you know you know here's things to consider um the design the motor and Battery I didn't say ebike so um but it's it is including that it's just telling me some things I should consider based on what these articles have said and then it's giving me these are by the way these are links to products that are kind of in the Google shopping database which basically e-commerce sites most e-commerce sites on the web are having their products list and show up in in the Google shopping arena there are like millions of updates every minute in that space um and so that's where again that's where these links are coming from um so yeah Google's just trying to provide you a bunch UPF front is all right if we rapid fire a couple of these yeah let's do that okay uh mom van up says hello hey hey how's it going thanks for being here yeah um bad news Jim asks is this live stream going to be available as a video later sorry say that again sorry no you're good bad news Jim says is this live stream going to be available as a video later yeah we'll we'll keep this up um it's when the video is over uh it'll still be here and we'll we'll add time stamps to it so make make it easier and then Marcus says have you started noticing a drop in traffic since this has started rolling out uh no it hasn't started rolling out yet um so yeah and not really the the thing is like it's it's hard to attribute traffic changes to any one particular thing yeah I've had some people say like you know this is going to kill blogging because I don't use um I don't use Google anymore I go straight to chat GPT with my questions right people people say that kind of thing to me all the time I say well that's fine that you do that but if everybody were already already doing that I would have seen the traffic drop on my websites I haven't some people say they've been losing traffic but there have been Google updates in that time too um and so yeah maybe some people are losing traffic especially if you had content that could easily be reproduced by an AI or if you're answering the kinds of questions that could easily be answered by an AI even if you're adding value beyond that but the questions you're answering could you're very fact-based could easily be answered by an AI then yeah you're going to see it dip in traffic we're not seeing drops in traffic because we mostly focus on the types of questions where there's more to it you just people need more information than what the AI is going to be able to to generate uh bony tole said asks can we try a query like how to build muscle or best workout for building muscle be interested to see what come up with there all right so you can see here the results uh bench press squats bent over row deadlift leg press dip concentration curl and it's telling you what it works specifically um the pretty general information I mean this is the stuff I see literally on the poster at the gym um so it's it's nothing super special or fancy but there you go this is the list it generated and again based on articles from Insider bodybuilding.com Health another from bodybuilding that's another thing um when with featured Snippets for the last couple of years if you won a featured snippet you didn't show up anywhere else on the first page of Google that was the deal for a while you could win the featured snippet and rank number one that was really cool um then they started saying well no winning the feature snippet is ranking so you're not going to rank elsewhere um because they're featuring multiple articles that doesn't seem to be the case here is that article from Insider here's bodybuilding here's Men's Health those same articles that are being featured up here are showing up in the search results and I I can't imagine they're going to remove them from the search results like they did when with featured Snippets because this up here is it's not the same thing right it's not featuring one specific article at the top um and so anyway that's kind of a cool thing you're going to be able to get featured here and I think you'll still be able to rank here at the very top yeah Selma asks if you were starting a new Niche site today would you do anything different due to these changes how would you proceed any specific steps some of the things so if you watched my video early this year or even the one we did a year ago about going to getting to $4,000 a month within one year um that plan was very heavily focused on creating a lot of content up front but you'll notice that it also includes um creating video content it includes a lot of Industry Outreach these are things that we teach as part of project 24 um but I think I think that most people focus a lot on the content and then neglect a lot of the other stuff right and by the other stuff I'm not talking about a huge link building campaign and emailing everybody out there but like again going and collaborating with a a YouTuber um you know uh getting interviewed on a podcast is not very hard these kinds of things are going to be able to get you seen it's going to they're going to generate links for you by the way um I'm going to do a video about this soon but um one thing I noticed with like the backlink profile on income school is I go do one interview on a podcast and I get a whole bunch of backlinks because I get a backlink from their website where they where they publish the um the the episode itself right in the show notes they link to it but those show notes appear on all of the different podcast players and each one of those is a backlink and a lot of the podcast players have a much higher domain rating um than than the website itself that interviewed me and so I get all sorts of backlinks from every single podcast that I that I ever do every interview that I do so um anyway I just think it's just a great way to get yourself out there to get seen and to be able to um to show that you know something the topic and that you have opinions and and beliefs and stuff people listen to podcasts and um are going to be fairly likely to come check out the website but also again it just builds up that Authority and I would also say that you might be thinking to yourself well I just I'm not big enough to be on a podcast or I don't have those connections well the reality is there's a there are the very well-known larger podcasts probably in your industry that you're right you're probably not going to get on um but there are so many small creators like you who are doing things like podcast casting youtubing and they would be probably more than happy to have you and yes their reach will be smaller than those larger podcasts but you have to start somewhere um and so it's better to at least get yourself out there um with either YouTubers or podcasters or on you know working with other website or bloggers that are your size and eventually as you grow and they grow you're just going to gain more Authority in the industry that will allow you to then participate in those larger um media opportunities yeah I a perfect example of this comes to mind and a lot of you watching this video especially if you search stuff about SEO on the internet a lot of you know who Kyle roof is Kyle does not maintain a YouTube channel with videos going out every single week and yet he's well known and well respected and authoritative in the area what does he do he goes and he he asks people if they would be interested in interviewing him on their YouTube channels he goes and he's speaks at events and he had to start somewhere right and he did and he doesn't have to manage a YouTube channel and and keep up with a publishing schedule and all that kind of stuff he just has to know enough about his topic to be able to go and do an interview and when he goes and does an interview he says hey I have some thoughts um that we could talk about here's the topic I'd love to discuss and so he can even kind of set the discussion topic of the interview and doesn't have to worry that I'm going to go way outside of that um it's it's brilliant and that's why he does it right he's he's good at SEO and he knows how effective that that is it builds real Authority and so I think that's kind of the number one thing is just making sure that you're getting out there and participating in your industry and again you asked if there's something I would do different it's not that that's different but I think that it's just getting more important yeah yep U millionaire Moxy asks do you think that the headline image in the blog will become like a thumbnail on YouTube to some extent um if you're hoping especially to get featured but also I think um even in the search results I'm often seeing images I mean for YouTube videos of course you're seeing the thumbnail image but I think more and more we're going to see um the search results themselves right now you know you see the logo for the website or their you know their fabricon you see the name of the website and you see a a the headline right I wouldn't be surprised to see results that have the featured images as well much more frequently um so for that featured image itself if something that I would do is try to have some sort of unique image if you're going to use stock photos do something to it to make it unique to make it not look like a stock photo or at least not be an image that Google can easily find a lot of other places um if I'm going to use stock photos I'll often use them within an article but for my featured images as often as possible I'm trying to take my own photo so it's a unique photo and that has that's like directly related to the topic I'm not worried about adding a bunch of words and stuff like we often see on thumbnails um really like the image is very small up here in this space you can see that on your phone um the images are some sometimes well they're still pretty small they're still very small so I'm probably just going to try to take a really good compelling image likewise headlines are really important and I think it's it's going to be important to um probably to try to pack in like the most the the punch in probably the first 40 characters you know for a normal Google search result 60 characters is fine but try to pack the punch in the first 40 characters so you make sure it gets seen yeah crot 16 says my website's uh in the snippet band lost all the Snippets in a day but still ranks in top positions do you think there's any way to get out of the snippet band uh with the SG well yeah I think think that um first of all SG is going to treat it pretty differently um anything that's happened with Snippets I think SG is going to look at it differently I do think that it's I think it's using similar criteria to figure out like what articles to feature because if you think about it like the same logic Google was using to identify a good snippet um makes sense to use to to pull stuff for this little um you know snapshot and so I think it makes a lot of sense that it's going to be very similar logic but it's a different enough thing I I don't think first of all I'm not 100% sure on the snippet ban I know people are using that terminology I don't know um we had cook for folks lost all of its Snippets overnight um a long time ago right uh when when that first started happening when we first started seeing websites just lose a bunch of Snippets um we think it was because of maybe over optimization for Snippets and Google thinks oh they're just they're optimizing for the computer not for people right um but as we wrote new articles we started winning Snippets again and you know so we clearly weren't banned now I know some people are saying like yeah but I never got any back um I did notice that we didn't win back old articles very quickly it was mostly on new content and so if you're not adding a lot of new content now you might not be winning Snippets back um and that could be part of it too so I I do think that there I don't think that Google is saying this website can never have a sniff it again I just I don't think that's the case I think there are just other factors they put into place and for some reason one reason or another um the Articles you're adding and the Articles you have just aren't meeting that criteria but I I think that this is a different enough thing that I think the snippet band kind of goes away especially because Google gets to pick from a lot more they don't just pick one featured AR they can now feature multiple articles right and I think something that we've kind of seen as we've uh looked through the Google snapshot is when you like click into the different websites that it's featuring it'll kind of highlight for you and show you where it's pulling from you mentioned earlier often times it's pulling from a section on an article that looks either very you know brief and succinct very you know encyclopedic or in some cases it's very obvious that the writer of the article wrote a Google you know wrote for a Google SN or an answer Target and so it just seems to me like Google's re-evaluating the way that they're using these and since there is a change since there is a shakeup there's a very good chance that um anything that has happened in the past that it could change for you and so whether you are able to just participate in the you know Google snapshot or if you do actually start getting symits back obviously we don't know for sure but it would just make sense that there is a change happening yeah I showed this example in our YouTube video but um and it's still right there uh this is the the first article arle published on terrain traders.com um possibly still the the only one maybe we've published a few more since then yeah think but um so published on the website and it was featured and when I click on it and I click into it the section that Google highlights is my bolded answer Target yeah just this is what I wrote to try to win a featured snippet and you know a lot of people when you know they started losing Snippets and stuff even within the project 24 Community people were saying well maybe we need to not optimize so much for Snippets maybe we need to not bold it maybe we need to you you know all sorts of things that people thought might work or might you know might change it in the end I wrote an answer Target the exact same way I always have and I still bolted it and Google still picked it right so I anyway I I don't think we need to overthink that I think the idea is if we can create a really good answer and make it easy for users to find then it's going to get picked right yeah awesome Carolyn asks do you think with the reality/ possibility of losing traffic with sge is it more important than ever to focus on things like conversion strategies video email opt-in lead magnets those sorts of things I think it's worthwhile I think I mean it always was right um but you know may maybe we're going to see maybe we are going to see less traffic overall but we're going to see more traffic that is like our article is actually the right article for them so I think that's one thing that this does is instead of focusing a lot on SEO practices Google is getting better able to dive into what the user is actually looking for and point them toward like here I mean Google's answering the question but very very superficially right so if you actually are trying to figure out a way to save money buying an ATV by picking the best time to do it you're going to want more information than what's here right so Google is going to help you sort of dive in and maybe people will um choose a follow-up question right and that follow-up question will help them dial in further on what they're really looking for and Google will be able to point them to the resource that's the best fit for them not the one that best played the Google game and so are we going to get less overall traffic possibly but I think our bounce rates will probably decrease I think um the people that come to the website are the ones who are going to be that the ones who are currently staying longer they're the ones that are still going to end up on our websites it's the people who get to the website read for 3 seconds and are like ah this isn't what I wanted and leave and those ones were earning you like three cents right maybe um and so I don't think we're going to see necessarily a huge decrease in income even if we see a decrease in page views um but I actually think that the people that do come to our website are actually going to be a better fit audience and so we actually may see our conversion rates just go up naturally on um email lists on uh products we sell that kind of stuff uh simply because it's going to be the more of a right fit audience for for um for our content and so I could see just the numbers changing now I also think that focusing on that and trying to capture email list and all that it's very smart to do um right now I I'm really always we're pretty dependent on search engines um and so if you can minimize or decrease that dependency at least a little bit video is another great way to do that Google still owns YouTube Right but it's a it's a totally different system um run by like a different group of people it's not it's owned by the same company but it's not the same thing right um You video is a great thing to do to help diversify you're getting traffic from um yes email list uh and improving conversions on your website making sure that the content that you create really is kind of sort of it's pointing people toward solutions for them that make you money yep uh Marcus asks how do you feel about Google not citing the sources within the answer itself uh he says I somehow feel like it's unethical what do you guys think um you know of what I've seen from AI so far the Google you know Google sighting right here exactly where each part of the answer came from this is the best I've seen chat GPT isn't doing this right nobody's doing this but Google I mean I don't know I haven't played around with being um so much so maybe being doing something similar um but realistically the fact that I can easily see where all the information came from I feel okay with now the level of okay right it just it it depends on your personal feeling about things um I I personally don't like that now ai can just go scrape the whole internet and can rewrite it and rewrite anything and not give any credit to the original thinker or you know the person that originally wrote it um but that has always been true people have been scraping and spinning content from the web forever and not giving credit uh that's that's not a new thing the other thing to remember is that a lot of what's on the web right now is not really very proprietary right the thing that with copyright the thing that we can copyright when we write an article is the words the structure the words we put together the ideas themselves are usually not very original the things that we write aren't totally original somebody else has thought those there's a reason we think those things um even if you know there's something I just learned from experience by going camping with my dad well I learned that from experience but also from my dad and so do I need to say I learned this from my dad every time I write something in an article where it's like well I gained my own experience but the original thought if I go all the way back it came from my dad but it didn't cuz he got it from his dad right and so there's there is a case to be made for the concept that most of what we're wrting here is not original UniQue Ideas now if somebody does come up with something totally original um if somebody does a study and generates statistics that absolutely like if that gets used without citing I have a huge personal issue with that because somebody did original work to to be able to come to a a conclusion right or to prove a conclusion they' already come to whatever um and and that kind of work deserves citation but if I read an idea somewhere but it's an idea I already had um or it's an idea that's just common within an industry having to site that I don't know I think most people don't feel a necessity to do that so it's kind of a personal feel sort of thing people are there's a huge Spectrum some people are like nope AI doesn't owe anything to anyone and I'm definitely not that person either yeah Steve Java says could we look at some alternative keywords like product alternative so the one that I thought of uh like uh like like we use clickup for kind of organization so like a clickup alternative um and kind of see what the what it generates let's see so yeah it just gives me these are huh I wonder what that links to I'm going to open that in a new tab I'm just curious oh it didn't even open it in any tab it pulled out a little box from the side so um oh it's just the image right um it's a Google image search result got and it it's kind of cool that it opens up like in a separate little window um yeah so it just gives me a list and this list is generated from a few articles again very similar to what uh we're seeing for a lot of different searches I think that's a that's a cool one to look at um another one uh could you look up a phone number for a company and see if it generates anything um there we go Idaho Power that one came up in my auto complete um the AI didn't come up with anything it just gave me this that it pulled straight from their website probably from their schema markup on their organization schema um which they have all that over here too so they have their customer service number um right there and Google took that and put it right there you'll notice that it also came up um literally in the search bar yeah right there um let me try another one for like a a different company phone number for Amazon returns okay I'm going to get an AI powered snapshot yeah it's just telling and probably they pulled this mostly from um Amazon's own website where they say here's how you can reach us over the phone um let's see yeah it's telling us you can call them um oh and then here what it pulled from Amazon is actually uh where to go on the website to go do your own return without calling them because they would probably rather you didn't call them um yeah I very interesting it's a good one um Carolyn says I'm noticing that they don't generate the sge automatically on every search I'm wondering what causes that also wondering if they are truly just testing how wanted the SG versus uh traditional search I think that's an interesting thought you know they to some extent that's probably some of it cuz it does seem like sometimes it just autog generates sometimes you can click to kind of open the snapshot and there probably is the that element of testing to see you know are people satisfied with what's on the search result page without it um versus if people are clicking it I guess in this case it's a little skewed because we're going to click it every time but right while we're beta testing it but anyway yeah K I think that's a that's a good thought I think part of it it might be that because it's in testing you know it's like I signed up you know for Google Labs I clicked the little search Labs thing um and I turned on sge right I turned that on as an option um so it gives it to me it gives me that option up here at first I think it was autogenerating now it seems like it almost never does yeah um or it it it takes a you know a few seconds right to generate so on my phone it it I just did the same search the phone number for Amazon returns and it autogenerated it um and I think that's because on my phone I'm using the Google app specifically where I turned on sge in Google Chrome on my phone it's not automatically doing that so I think I think it's in large part because it's it's a beta test uh you know they don't want to automatically generated every time and annoy me um because not only am I getting the the AI powered snapshot but I'm also getting um often a featured snippet and the people also ask which won't be part of the Google experience once SG becomes the norm so I don't know I'm curious maybe they won't autogenerate it every time even in the future it's possible um yeah that that would be interesting um let's see we have a comment from Mom bandup says we are getting this is kind of in relation to something we already talked about um uh working on industry Outreach she says we are getting Great Links from doing local Live Events pretty cool um and it's fun too too that's a good idea kind of working with I just think of like if you do have a local Niche where you could go to like a farmers market or some sort of fair or event or show where you're connecting with other small businesses it's a great place to get some of those things yeah and even for like a non-local if you have a niche that's not local but there are industry specific events I think going to those events is a big deal um on our YouTube channel uh both on income school and on channel makers um our biggest video almost every time are News videos when something's going on and people want to know uh what's what's happening right um and event-based videos on a lot of channels do really well too because a lot of people would attend an event but they can't they're not going to travel uh you know it's just not feasible to attend every event and so if you can go and cover it in some way it's fantastic it's also a great place to get good content to get really good b-roll to potentially find people to collaborate with so you know as you move into a position where you can do more and more and more with your blog um you know bring a camera at least right um and talk to people interview people uh it makes good blog content it makes great video content too Barat says I'm in a low competition niche in outdoor activities I'm focusing 90% on response posts and then the remaining staple do you think that's a good strategy or would you recommend a restructure yeah the response posts um have been really good for you know winning those low competition searches right those are more specific low competition searches and the more searches that you rank really well for the better it actually helps the authoritativeness of the whole site um and so it's actually been really valuable to write response post but if we're not careful those response posts are easily just commodity content very much like here's a question let me give you a factual answer and so a lot of response posts just look an awful lot like something an AI could or would generate today right and so even when we write response posts we need to make sure that we're adding something beyond what an AI can do um even if that's mostly just like personal experience when I say you know if I'm reviewing something and I say you know this uh this pocket knife is great for this reason you know yes I can list out all the specs or whatever and compared to other pocket knives but if I say this is the one that I carry like I've used all of these but this is the one that's literally in my pocket every day and I've used it to uh I've used it as a screwdriver I've used it as this I've used it as this it holds it its uh sharpness really really well even though I've used it as a can opener right like if you can say those kinds of things The credibility that it gives to what you wrote about you know just in a generic review um The credibility it adds to that is just enormous whereas when you know compare that to somebody else who writes basically what an AI would write which is well you know reviewers say this and the specs are this and so here's your comparison uh it just goes a long way when you can use that personal experience or when you can add some level of testing or something else on top of it all right we have two requests uh for searches here can we try the query why is discover card a joke see what we get here some say it's a joke because of its poor customer service customers complained about long wait times and trying to contact UM customer service representatives and then they give me a list of issues that have been reported um and then they have their disclaimer this is not professional Financial advice I think we're going to see that a lot in ym um for sure and then uh we have a few articles including one why is Discovery Card a joke um but and there's only three here it doesn't you can see there's no expansion um and of course we can open it up and see which says all four of the things in the list were listed in these two articles um as and then the the paragraph that it wrote came from yeah from here so um another one we have could you search best bulking diet for for skinny guys uh bony to beastly is wondering if the AI will make its own diet or just simply recommend kind of a random list of tips like it did for a previous search yeah I mean it's it's not it's not giving you a full diet right it's giving you generic things like here are some foods to include in a bulking diet um but it's not going to actually give you the diet again you can see that Google's not not diving in deep right the AI is not going to provide you with that full like here's your meal plan um eat these things it's and I think Google's going to be really careful with that too because they they don't want to have their AI be your dietitian uh I think that would give them there'd be a lot of liability there yeah yeah um another one could we do an X versus y kind of comparison query um yeah comparison of two products maybe like a name brand product versus a offbrand product or something like that um let's see yeah or even a model comparison of two different models of something or yeah this here's a drone one these are two different DJI models so you can see it pulls up both it pulls in a few things the pricing a couple of specs and then um it has a paragraph here of just kind of a few specific things like the sensor size and that kind of thing um it's pretty high level right nothing about really usability anything along those lines and then of course it does cite a few articles um yeah that's I think that's what we're getting I I again I don't think it's ever going to do a great comparison it's just going to give you kind of the yeah which this is I mean this isn't that much worse than what a lot of bloggers do right which is like oh let me give you a comparison table but the comparison table is literally just the specs right um so Peter says I see the Articles they feature on the right have featured images that mean I won't be able to get the snippet if I don't display a featured image so you'll notice in this example they didn't um so I don't think that's a requirement but I wouldn't be surprised if that becomes like a factor it's desirable yeah I think Google would prefer that you had one and so if if if they were to pick between two comparable articles and one had a featured image particularly an original image I think it would pick that one over the other but again they do want to make sure that they're providing the helpful information and so I think that's first and foremost yeah um balal asks I'm starting a blog about tech gaming and entertainment can you give me some good tips tech gaming and entertainment there's um I mean there's a lot in that space I'd say it's very it's it's a very broad topic and so probably pick your genre um there are some blogs that do really well that are you know they cover uh that they they're still really broad right they have a ton of room to maneuver and cover different things but they still cover like a genre um there's ones that cover anything comic book related and there's comics for like everything right so every superhero movie and TV show plus like tons of other um things that are comic based and they they cover that kind of stuff so um you know I would kind of pick a space that that's probably my biggest tip is um start somewhere specific and then you can broaden as you go okay couple more requests here for searches yeah um bony deasley says what if you search for a fable such as the Fable of the Lonely toucan and the crocodile will AI paraphrase uh its own version of the Fable did I misspell toucan uh um t o u c a n t o there's an O there we go so it's oh I got to generate here we go uh here's some related information uh in the book Christopher crocodile is lonely and tries to make friends but everyone is scared of him a helpful twocan introduces him to another lonely crocodile and the two crocodiles and happily ever after or together forever sorry um so it like it kind of paraphrased it but like very high level um more like a back of the book summary yeah at most all right another one is could you look up the query flight base F LT base yeah flight base okay um okay so it's giving me some information about what it is it's an Enterprise gr software platform that automates and manages commercial drones the world's first internet of drones platform uh it's platform provides apid driven architecture so it's given me a lot of information um allows easy integration of drones with cloud-based businesses applications like sap slacko um can be used for various applications it gives me a few specifics site security asset inspections emergency response I get a few images um so these may come from flight bases uh website or they may come from some of these articles that um are about flight base again because we are talking about a a product right or a company um it even pulls in some of these reviews these I wonder I'm curious if these come just from like Google yeah they come from the Google Maps review so you know along the same lines I'm curious now what happens if I type in income school um I see now Google knows I own income school there we go generary um there we go so that's kind of cool um I get reviews from Google reviews uh so if you have a business whether it's local based or Not by the way um getting a Google listing will be one of the best ways to get reviews to show up literally in Google we I mean we have uh people that write reviews all the time and and here's you know um from uh Niche Pursuits um Eis fax there's a few here but uh um these ones here that are directly from customers that came up on Google I think are the ones that are going to be the most impactful on income school right um and then it pulls some other information uh this comes from Google Maps the address and it's not our address anymore I need to update our Google Map listing we just got into our new office um and yeah this is actually pretty decent little description here and then it's got all these follow-ups here who owns income school who owns income school what does it say oh look it it does know there we go um that's pretty cool awesome awesome uh Julie asked a question here what about an option like should Public Schools should Public School libraries ban certain books does it have an option for that yeah I'm curious on some of these it's giving me something um here it says some say there's no reason to ban a book others say keeping books with inappropriate content out of libraries protects kids and then it gives me some factual information what the Supreme Court said um says those advocating a band complain typically that the book in question contains graphic violence uh disrespect for parents family sexually explicit exalts evil etc etc uh book bands create a culture of fear in society teachers grow unsure of what they can say in a classroom so it's reasonably I think giving sort of both sides of the argument um I think they're going to be careful to not um Express an overt opinion yeah even if like frankly as I read this I it feels like they're being very factual you know those advocating for this Advocate these say these are the things but then they didn't say here those against book bands believe it creates a Culture of Fear they stated as a fact they create a Culture of Fear I actually think that's fairly subjective uh whether or not that truly creates a Culture of Fear I think that depends on the people in that society and how they choose to view that book ban I'm not giving my opinion either way I'm just saying this to me feels feels like it leans one way but they're not going to overtly Express an opinion there um Aron from arand says hello from Brazil hello welcome from yeah welcome from Brazil and Julia says we are doomed I'm not sure under what context um I don't believe we're doomed um we're not doomed in blogging I think if if blogging is doomed then AI is going Way Beyond what it should and um whether or not you believe AI is leading us on a path of Doom that I don't know I might I might have some concerns there too I've seen a I've seen Terminator you know I we know what happens if we know where this is going um farz asks is publishing content without external and internal link and focusing on publishing content only a bad for a site so content with no links it's not nearly as good as publishing content with links yeah I mean content is most important right but internal linking is really valuable first of all to help users to click through to other articles but also to clarify for search engines the context of these different articles that they are all interrelated um those links do provide a lot of context and can help build that topical Authority um so for a lot of reasons definitely have internal links um external links link to sources that make sense um I don't think you need to overdo it but authoritative sources linking to authoritative sources um can help to corroborate the things you say and and therefore give more credibility those things maybe we can do one final search I think this is a very important one uh Messi versus Ronaldo I think that this one is this is one that we all need to know what the AI says this is very important maybe the most important query of the morning um L Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are two of the most decorated footballers ever they have want to combine 76 major trophies and are the only two players to score over 800 goals each in their careers for club and Country Messi's won more um of those awards has spent most of his playing career in Spain and France Ronaldo scored a record number of international goals and appearances and has played in Portugal England Spain Italy Messi's average is 78 goals and. 33 assists Ronaldo's is 72 goals and .17 assists so again they didn't pick a side but they gave the stats and that last number there like feels like they're kind of picking a winner because of the specific things they chose to to here to highlight exactly um so again it kind of comes down to like maybe they're not going to expressly give an answer but sometimes like the things that you choose to focus on are your like it clarifies what your opinion is and so it sounds like Google's opinion is messy that's just what what it is yeah I guess so awesome well yeah I again this is this is a lot of fun um I I wish we could take all the questions um so uh there's that I wish yeah I wish we had time for everything but the reality is as bloggers we're not doomed um we're not doomed unless all of society is doomed that's the way I feel about it as content creators especially um people crave content uh you know content that we consumed went from all created by Central like companies right they made all the movies they made all the entertainment they created all the news and um then we got reality TV which was still created by those organizations but had more normal people which you know some was pretty good and some's pretty trashy in my opinion um but then we got YouTube blogging so just social media we got normal people democratizing where content comes from and we've reached a day where you know kids and teenagers they don't know the names of the actors in their favorite movies but they do know who their favorite YouTubers are um things have changed and content creators we we hold a lot of power we pretend we say all the time we're all beholden to Google but in reality like we're not totally beholden to Google we as individuals um don't have a lot of individual power maybe but we as content creators as a whole Google it's not in their best interest to throw us to the side um it would be very harmful to Google uh so they're they know that there there are limits on what that they on what they can do and we have a lot more power than we think we do so keep creating awesome content and I think you're going to reap the rewards of that in the future um and now I mean again yeah it's awesome and it's a I don't know it's a fun job awesome well thank you guys for joining us this morning it's been awesome yeah we'll see you all next time
