[00:01] Matt here from MKS - calm and in this video we're going to be talking about video we're going to be talking about the most universal LED strip so this LED
[00:26] strip is from a company called ye light and they call this the ye light light and they call this the ye light light strip plus so it's an RGB LED strip with video I'm gonna cover what the LED strip does all the different configurations
[00:39] you can have what's in the box what you can get along with it how to connect it to the Amazon echo Google home and openhab then to finish off the video I'm home so you're gonna want to stick around for the whole video so this is
[00:52] the most universal LED strip the reason they call it that is because you don't bunch of different things like I mentioned early on it's compatible with the Amazon echo Google home openhab home assistant which I won't be covering in
[01:06] this video but it's compatible with it and you can control it from your iPhone Android literally anything you put your mind to I bet you can control with this LED strip this LED strip has 16 million colors it can play with music you can
[01:20] put it anywhere inside your house this is an indoor not outdoor they have this worldwide it's compatible with everything because it has the little out for any country you're in another feature is you can cut the LED strip so
[01:34] if the LED strip is too long for what you want to do then you can cut it but can pick up these things and make your LED strip even long so like I mentioned before you can pick this LED strip up on their Kickstarter page which is ending
[01:47] in a couple of days and they have blown out of their water their Kickstarter Gold they have their over by something thousand percent they only wanted $10,000 in sales but they've blown it out of the water and I'm so happy cuz
[02:01] underneath their Kickstarter page you will find links to their social media so their Facebook and all their other stuff you can also find the links to my social I'm at Kosinski whatever you decided all right so let's
[02:14] not waste any more time let's unbox everything that it comes with and show you all the different configurations you can possibly have so all of this was sent to me by a light the first thing they sent me was their starter kit so
[02:26] this has everything in the box it has the power adapter the main big LED strip the control box everything you need to get it up and running they also sent me three of their extensions we'll talk about these later and they also sent me
[02:39] this universal adapter but I'm not sure if this is gonna be in the final release the box I guess they maybe didn't know where I was in the world or something but in the box that comes with a u.s. adapter I'm again I'm not sure if that's
[02:53] production but that's what they sent me and all of this is highlighted on their Kickstarter page which is linked in the description below so if you have any questions go ahead look at their Kickstarter page or send them an email
[03:07] I'm sure they will respond to you but let's go ahead and start with this main big box we'll put all this off to the side so to open this you just lift this flap down here and you are greeted with the user manual and the LED strip itself
[03:21] the user manual and the LED strip itself so this is a very nice quality LED strip like everything is all nicely coated there's nothing exposed yes I have you what's in the box just that way you have an idea if you were to get one so
[03:35] we'll put that here then you lift up this main tray and that reveals everything else so first you have the control box right here so it's it's amazing to me that everything is powered off this little tiny box right here this
[03:49] has all of its Wi-Fi capabilities all of its controlling capabilities a little tiny thing and then over here you would just plug in the power adapter which like I mentioned is detachable so where that's why I was saying like wherever
[04:03] you are in the world you just swap out this little thing and you just put it in like that you twist it on movements adapted to your country which is a very adapted to your country which is a very cool idea and you simply just plug it in
[04:15] like this alright that's it for in this box there's nothing else I'm gonna go ahead and put that back oh let's go ahead and look at the user manual actually Oh bunch of nice
[04:29] pictures that's that's how it should be done so it shows you how to install it I'll show you guys all this during the video put this box off to the side put that over there and I want to get to these extension cables so what these
[04:44] extension LED strips do is they make this longer so if you want more of these LED strips you simply just buy these and you can extend this LED strip with up to four of these extensions so I have three right here so in theory I could get one
[04:58] more to open one of these you just pull this back and then you open the box pull this one right out very nice packaging that's one thing that I will give them this is very nice packaging and for the price that they're
[05:12] charging this it's very good product in my opinion okay so we got wow this is I love the feel of these LED strips they feel so good and I guess all of them
[05:24] have adhesive backing so you can go ahead and stick this to stuff but let me show you how these extend which is a really cool in my opinion so what you do is you take the main LED strip and then you take one of these extensions and
[05:38] then you just connect them together like this put them in the holes like that and this put them in the holes like that and then you take this piece you put it on then you take this piece you put it on the bottom and then you just clip it
[05:53] the bottom and then you just clip it over the LED strip and boom now they that I've seen in other LED strips is they come apart very easy here they're secured and they won't come apart which is really cool alright I won't open all
[06:07] late but let's take a look at this adapter because I'm not sure if you were gonna get one of these but just in case I'll show Wow comes in a nice bag whoa I'll show Wow comes in a nice bag whoa so this adapter has every single country
[06:22] Wow it just all pops up and it has every so let's go over the configurations you can have with this LED shirt you can without any these extensions or you can get up to
[06:38] three or up to four more of these extensions and you can extend it for so it's extendable up to 10 meters so the total length you can have is 10 meters each one of these extensions is one meter long so you can have up to four
[06:52] more of these which is four meters but let's get this thing plugged plugged in and set up before we get this thing set up let's take a look closer look at the actual device so on one end you have this detachable power adapter which like
[07:06] power plugs you just press this little button and then twist off and then we get to the control box which it's very small control box on the front you have
[07:19] a button so you can set this to do things you have the ye light logo and then you have some information on the back and it has these like two grips so I'm guessing it's just for providing like a software review and then on this
[07:34] end you have the LED strip and there's adhesive everywhere on this LED strip which is really cool so you can stick this wherever you want and then on the end I already have one of these extensions connected but you can connect
[07:47] more of these extensions using this pin right here alright let's go ahead and get this LED strip set up so I have my mobile the device right here and ready you can either use an iOS or Android device but the first step is take the
[08:00] device but the first step is take the power adapter and plug it into power so now that is connected to power oh so I noticed that there is a little light don't know if you can see that if you're a smart home enthusiast like me and want

[08:27] cool alright so when you tap the button it turns on tap it again turns it off and then in the instructions here it has a little QR code and with this QR code this is what you're going to do to download the app you can either search
[08:42] for it in the app store or just go ahead and scan this and with an iOS you can use the default camera app you scan QR codes so I'm going to go you scan QR codes so I'm going to go ahead and put it over there and it pops
[08:56] up going to tap on it it's loading up their website and I'm it's loading up their website and I'm going to click the app store click open up the instructions off to the side now I'm going to click get and it's
[09:12] installing and now we wait that's cool this button thing I will say it is really cool how you can just tap it and turn it on and off all right it is download gonna hit open sure room management customize light
[09:28] device sharing third party integration that's right oh it's also compatible with IFTTT alright says login I am in the United alright says login I am in the United States agree login alright so I do not
[09:44] States agree login alright so I do not have an account with ye light or a me account all right so now it wants me to confirm my email address all right so I guess now I'm just gonna click the X button and I'm gonna click the log in
[09:59] button and I'm gonna click the log in again and I'm just going to type in the email address and password I created alright there we go I'm all signed in alright there we go I'm all signed in gonna just agree to their policies I'm
[10:11] going to click on device then I'm gonna click Add device I have a light strip click Add device I have a light strip alright it is indeed powered on next alright it is indeed powered on next step select your Wi-Fi network yes that
[10:25] is my Wi-Fi network oh but it says it wants to point 4 gigahertz so I'm going to switch to my 2.4 gigahertz Wi-Fi which is this one alright now that it is
[10:38] connected I'm going to go back to the e Lite app so it wants me to enter the Wi-Fi password I will enter it the next step alright so wants me to connect to step alright so wants me to connect to the actual light strip there we go now
[10:53] I'm going to go back to the app it's connecting alright so I guess it button ooh all right so it works let's go ahead
[11:07] ooh all right so it works let's go ahead tap on it so it has a bunch of different tap on it so it has a bunch of different modes you can change the intensity of modes you can change the intensity of the light strip let's change the color
[11:20] the light strip let's change the color to like blue oh that looks nice nice I to like blue oh that looks nice nice I like that flow mode ooh so it like flows
[11:33] through the colors so you can choose what colors you want so many features what colors you want so many features you know favorites what is this oh this is a bunch of different things about the actual device you have quick
[11:48] Oh so this is like a quick menu so you can quickly choose yellow purple blue can quickly choose yellow purple blue you can do timers you can set a default state so I guess when you press the button what goes on there yeah Wow
[12:04] there's so many features in this app jeez you can spend like a whole video on looking was through this we don't got time to look through all this but now ahead and what should we connect first let's connect it to the Google home
[12:17] first before we connect it to all the other devices let's change the name of the LED shirt because I'm gonna assume that Google home and the Amazon echo are going to refer to it by the name that we said so I'm going to tap on the device
[12:31] then I'm gonna click on these little control looking sliders and I'm going to change the name to just we're just gonna call this test strip there you go I'm gonna name it test strip and now let's connect it to the
[12:45] Google home all right now let's go ahead and open the Google home app all right menu so that's the three lines at the top left then we're gonna click on home control click the plus sign to add more devices and then we're going to scroll
[13:01] devices and then we're going to scroll down till we find Yi light there we go it alright so now it's going to ask us to sign into our me account so sign in with the email address and
[13:14] password you used then click sign in I don't want to remember my password alright it says at the top account now linked so I'm gonna click done hopefully it'll find my test strip alright it did it found it it's right
[13:28] there so I'm not gonna sign it to a room I'm just gonna click done oh and these are some example commands you can do alright let's try them out okay google alright let's try them out okay google make test strip blue okay to blue there
[13:42] we go the Google home is now linked to the Yi light ok Google set test strip to the Yi light ok Google set test strip to off you got it turning the test strip
[13:55] off nice now let's go ahead and connect the Amazon echo which I have over here to the Yi light alright so now let's connect the Yi light LED strip to the Amazon echo so my Amazon and echo is over here I don't know if the camera can
[14:10] this the first thing we want to do is open the Amazon I'm gonna mute my Amazon echo and you should to the Amazon Alexa app now you want to click on the menu app now you want to click on the menu you want to click on skills and games
[14:25] then you want to search for the skill Yi light one word and click search and it's the first option right there I'm going to click enable and just like the Google
[14:39] home I'm gonna guess it's gonna require your me account there it is so type in that username and password again and click Sign In I don't want it to remember my password alright so it says it has been linked so I'm just gonna
[14:53] click done and it wants me to discover devices I'm going to do that I'm gonna devices I'm going to do that I'm gonna click discover devices see if it finds my test strip all right said it found 29 devices so I guess it scanned my entire
[15:05] home again I'm just gonna click done alright I'm going to assume let's click on lights oh there it is it did it found the test strip it's down there so I can click on it I can turn it on there we go that's cool change the
[15:20] there we go that's cool change the brightness set a color green oh this thing is right I like it's very bright and vibrant like these LEDs are very good quality of my painting all right so let's go back but
[15:35] let's see if the Amazon echo so as a fair warning I will be using the word fair warning I will be using the word you know the Alexa word so if you have an Amazon echo I recommend you mute it so I'm gonna unmute mine Alexa set test
[15:52] so I'm gonna unmute mine Alexa set test strip to blue hey Alexa set test strip strip to blue hey Alexa set test strip to yellow that's pretty cool I like this
[16:05] alright now let's do one final thing which is gonna be my favorite thing which is gonna be my favorite thing let's connect this to openhab Alexa turn let's connect this to openhab Alexa turn off test strip all right so I got all of
[16:18] the extensions connected and this is how the LED strip looks it's really long it's really cool I love the way that it looks especially on blue let's go ahead and set it to blue let's go to color and set
[16:35] set it to blue let's go to color and set it that's yeah right there I missed it it that's yeah right there I missed it shoot right there that's cool look at that kind of look on camera it looks kind of like a neon but in person it
[16:50] going to connect the Yi light LED strip to openhab if you guys go to the link in the video description you will find a link to this guide and in this guide
[17:02] yeah we have all the instructions that we need to do in order to get the e light set up so the first thing we have to do is ssh into the server so if you are on Windows you use putty and if you're on Mac you can go ahead and use
[17:18] terminal so I have terminal up right here we're going to SSH into the open web server so this first part that I'm about to do you may or may not have to do it depends on what open have version you are running at the time of this
[17:33] video recording the latest stable openhab build it does not have the e to taking the latest snapshot built so in order to that we're gonna go to open happy and - config and so right here it
[17:49] says install or upgrade the latest stable so the reason it says stable is because I have these snapshots so it would downgrade but if you have the latest stable it'll say get the latest snapshot and you would click enter go
[18:04] installed but since I already have it I'm going to ignore it again if you later steps in this video then get the snapshot otherwise if you
[18:16] see it then just don't worry about this part ok so the first thing we're going to do is create the items that we're gonna bind the e light to so we're gonna gonna bind the e light to so we're gonna go to our items file scroll down there
[18:29] we go we got a nice blank space right here I'm going to copy this right there here I'm going to copy this right there paste it in here click enter let's leave some of this white space yep so let me describe what this is so the first one
[18:45] is the color so this is how we're going to be able to choose the color of what the LED strips gonna be so the that's color the name I'm gonna have it couch LED color cuz this LED strip is going under my couch couch color that's the
[19:00] name that's going to show up in the site map color picker that's the little item that shows up and also so we can access a color picker lighting's that way I can control it from the Amazon echo or Google or Siri and then this next one so
[19:19] supposedly the Yi light is supposed to have a color and a dimmer but for some reason I couldn't get it this to work maybe that's the binding maybe it's not completely set up correctly like the latest build of the binding doesn't have
[19:33] this feature but just in case I added it in here but I couldn't get this to work I only got the color one to work but anyway here it is is dimmer color couch anyway here it is is dimmer color couch the temp couch color temp because it's
[19:47] temperature of the light I didn't really understand it but I made an item anyway this is what in theory should work light and switchable alright so that's light and switchable alright so that's it for the items file drawl XY and enter
[20:02] and now we are going to edit our sitemap so we can see the actual items alright so this is going in my living room couch I'm going to copy this and where is my
[20:17] right there oops this one didn't line up correctly boom there we go so what this is the first one is the color picker item so
[20:29] this is this is the couch LED color this is gonna be the color picker where we can choose the color as well as adjust the brightness of the leds and then this is that slider item press control X then Y and enter quote that's it from there
[20:44] Y and enter quote that's it from there and oh I forgot to put in this guide but and oh I forgot to put in this guide but let's go ahead and give open have a little restart it's good to give open app a little restart whenever you do any
[20:57] changes to the sitemap file or the items flower or any of the configuration files that's something that I need to start doing because I usually just leave it and it somehow figures it out but I should be restarting there you go all
[21:09] restarted we won't be needing the terminal or SSH window anymore so we can terminal or SSH window anymore so we can go ahead and close that so next we want to go to our interfaces or our web user interface for open hub main user
[21:24] interface there we go wait for it to load up all right there we go all of our interfaces are loaded up let's click on paper UI now we want to go to paper UI now we want to go to configuration system and then we want to
[21:38] make sure that this is enabled you want access we remote repository to be access we remote repository to be enabled now we're going to the add-ons then we're gonna go to bindings loading there we go we're gonna type in Yi light
[21:53] there we go we're gonna type in Yi light there it is Yi light binding then we're gonna click install alright the binding is now installed now three lines we're gonna go to inbox we are going to
[22:06] click on the plus sign and click the ye light binding there we and click the ye light binding there we go already found our ye light stripe so now you want to click on the checkmark you can name it whatever you want I'm
[22:19] just going to keep it as the default add as a thing now we need to now that it's added as the thing we need to link it to our items that we created in the items file so click the three lines again go to configuration then things alright
[22:35] there it is let's click on the ye light alright so this is the e like thing and within that ye light thing it has two channels right here so it has the color Channel and the color temperature which are the two items we created so we need
[22:50] to link these two channels to the items so you just want to click this circle right here click on this little drop down and there it is our item that was in the items file so click on it couch color then click link we're gonna
[23:06] click on this second one the color temperature click the drop-down couch temperature click the drop-down couch color temp and link there we go so now items and the Yi light is now controllable from open app web portal
[23:21] controllable from open app web portal again then go to Paton basic UI here it is right here the couch color and couch color temp let's go test it out alright guys here is a demo of the open hip app i just opened the app and let's go ahead
[23:36] and turn it on there we go open up the color picker and we can open up the color picker and we can choose any color we want let's go for a choose any color we want let's go for a nice green well there we go it doesn't
[23:55] look as on camera it actually looks kind of blue but trust me in real life it's green then we can choose a bunch of colors and that is open app control for
[24:07] the Yi light as you can see like the color temperature slider it doesn't really work which maybe that's like a software bug from the e light binding color picker works so that's all that matters you can turn off
[24:21] the light using the down-arrow turn it on using the up arrow alright so i've gone ahead and installed the LED strips in my living room i put it underneath if the couches and i think it brings a whole different light to the living room
[24:36] whole different light to the living room so all i did was simply just lay them underneath the couches I didn't even attach them or anything which i think is good enough and it's pretty easy so if I even if I wanted to relocate them or
[24:49] when we get the new couches it's simple all I have to do is just take them off all I have to do is just take them off and it's really cool it provides a nice glow not only to underneath the couches but to the floor itself and I just put
[25:03] the wires over here I don't know if you can see them the power adapters right here and then the little control box is right there and then it simply just goes right there and then it simply just goes underneath and it shines let's go ahead
[25:19] and have Alexa change the color if you have let's see here have let's see here Alexa set test strip to orange there we Alexa set test strip to orange there we go nice change the color alright guys
[25:39] now I'm going to show you a couple more of the different effects that we can do so let's go ahead and click on night mode dating night about movie candle flicker birthday party I wonder how that looks I don't know why birthday party
[25:53] would be orange yeah let's play around with the colors go through all the with the colors go through all the different colors you can have let's go on the flow how does that look alright I like that alright thank you
