[0:02] lately as though one of the biggest
[0:03] anime studios in the world if you don't
[0:06] recognize the name then you probably
[0:07] heard of their shows like Jiu Jitsu
[0:09] kaisen Attack on Titan the final season
[0:11] and Chainsaw man just to name a few
[0:13] mapla has been successful in creating
[0:15] fantastic anime adaptations of the most
[0:18] popular manga on the planet but how did
[0:20] they start and how did they achieve such
[0:23] notoriety well the answer will most
[0:25] definitely surprise you Maple would not
[0:28] be what it is today without masal
[0:30] mariyama who's produced iconic anime
[0:32] films over the years and helped bring up
[0:34] big time directors like mamaru hasoda
[0:36] and Satoshi Khan he's an honorary member
[0:39] of the Beloved anime convention autocon
[0:41] which if you haven't been you should
[0:43] definitely check out and more
[0:45] importantly co-founded Studio madhouse
[0:47] who is responsible for popular shows
[0:49] like Trigun death note and even Hunter
[0:51] Hunter because of this the studio grew
[0:54] into something more corporate than the
[0:56] 70 year old had wanted which is one of
[0:58] the reasons why he co-founded the
[1:00] mariama animation produce project
[1:02] Association or maplin 2011. he also
[1:06] really wanted to get the ball rolling to
[1:08] make the now highly acclaimed film in
[1:10] this corner of the world which ran into
[1:12] financial difficulties at mad house you
[1:14] think this movie would have been the
[1:16] first work map it would have released
[1:18] but you'd be wrong several titles
[1:20] released beforehand like the cincero
[1:23] autonomy directed series kids on the
[1:25] slope and Terror and resonance the third
[1:28] season of the boxing classic Hajime no
[1:30] ippo and the supernatural Harem like
[1:32] comedy punchline in this corner of the
[1:35] world ran into a lot of production
[1:37] problems but it finally released in
[1:40] 2016. set during the 1930s and 40s this
[1:43] film Chronicles the life of a young
[1:45] married woman named suzu who moves away
[1:47] from Hiroshima and she tries to take
[1:50] care of her family this movie won tons
[1:52] of awards including the country's top
[1:54] prize at the Japan Academy and has been
[1:57] praised greatly on his portrayal of war
[1:59] from a respective lesser scene that of
[2:02] Regular People 2016 was a major turning
[2:05] point for MATA just as Studio was
[2:07] gaining traction mariyama reside as CEO
[2:10] in April that year in order to create
[2:11] Studio M2 so that he could focus on
[2:14] personal projects he passed a job to
[2:17] promising young producer manabotsuka
[2:19] later that year the studio released Yuri
[2:21] on Ice which quickly became a worldwide
[2:23] phenomenon for its approach on the
[2:25] portrayal of lgbtq plus and mental
[2:28] health issues the story revolves around
[2:30] Japanese figure skater named Yuri who
[2:32] decides to quit the sport but runs into
[2:34] his Idol Victor who wants to coach him
[2:36] out of retirement Marion Ice is a pretty
[2:39] good series and much to its Acclaim is
[2:41] hailed for its realistic approach to
[2:43] Yuri and Victor's complicated
[2:45] relationship 2016 wasn't all Rose tinted
[2:48] flowers as reports started to emerge on
[2:51] the working conditions at Napa during
[2:53] the production of that series and they
[2:55] were less than ideal with very tight
[2:57] deadlines and low wages this would be a
[3:00] recurring problem for the studio as they
[3:02] grew bigger the post-mariama period for
[3:05] MATA released of resume worthy list of
[3:07] anime like kakaguri in 2017 Banana Fish
[3:11] in 2018 the re-adaptation of Osama
[3:14] tessica's 1969 classic doroto in 2019
[3:17] and an absolute favorite of mine the
[3:20] post-apocalyptic Dark Fantasy Dora
[3:23] hedora in 2020. 2020 was the next
[3:25] breakout year for Matas they released a
[3:28] whoppin eight anime titles within the
[3:30] calendar year and while most were pretty
[3:32] Unforgettable there were a couple
[3:34] standouts Attack on Titan the final
[3:36] season was the most anticipated since
[3:38] mapa announced they would take over
[3:39] producing the anime from with Studio
[3:42] while some people had issues with the
[3:44] show most desertedly how they are
[3:47] dragging out bending by making at this
[3:49] point what 50 million parts now Jiu
[3:52] Jitsu Kaizen is the other anime that
[3:54] stood out and this Supernatural Shonen
[3:56] was a surprising success with its
[3:58] gorgeous animation wild fight scenes
[4:01] crazy characters and amazing EP at this
[4:05] point Napa has ascended to a new level
[4:07] of notoriety but the working conditions
[4:10] continue to get worse as animators
[4:12] directors and producers alike have all
[4:15] reported short deadlines and long
[4:17] working hours an extremely high
[4:20] expectations unfortunately this systemic
[4:23] problem has no immediate answer but the
[4:26] studio has made improvements to combat
[4:28] this like opening a new studio in Tokyo
[4:30] with the aim to improve the working
[4:32] environment for its teams 2022 was the
[4:36] year of Chainsaw man which had become
[4:37] the most highly anticipated anime of all
[4:40] time and much is because of the
[4:42] celebrated reputation of mangaka tatsuki
[4:44] Fujimoto while chainsaw man may not have
[4:46] lived up to most people's locked
[4:48] expectations the series is still a very
[4:51] darn good one and has built the Studio's
[4:53] profile even higher in 2023 Napa
[4:57] released the second season of yet
[4:58] another popular anime Finland Saga which
[5:01] has received strong reviews the first
[5:04] half of the third part of Attack on
[5:06] Titan the final season which just saying
[5:09] that is nearly as ridiculous as the
[5:11] studio actually doing it and I bet you
[5:13] can't say that fast three times first
[5:15] half of the third part of Attack on
[5:16] Titan final season the first half of the
[5:18] third part of attacker Titanfalls the
[5:19] first half of the third part of the
[5:21] attack the fight of season
[5:24] I guess I got a b or an A I guess I
[5:27] don't know thankfully map is planning to
[5:30] release the last half of the third part
[5:31] of the attack on Titan the final season
[5:33] later this year so I'm not to say that
[5:35] Ridiculousness anymore and collectively
[5:37] we can just call it the last season most
[5:41] Paradise is another great series that
[5:43] started in early April and there's more
[5:45] on the horizon for mapo like Jiu Jitsu
[5:47] Tyson the second season and movies for
[5:50] Yuri and ice and Zombieland Saga the
[5:52] possibilities are truly endless for the
[5:55] studio because who knows what giant
[5:57] anime IP they will take or next maybe
[6:00] one piece JoJo's Bizarre Adventure look
[6:03] it could happen besides Ghibli there
[6:06] isn't an Anime Studio as successful
[6:09] internationally right now as MacBook and
[6:11] they've only been around for 12 years
[6:14] it's also important for mappa to
[6:16] continue making inroads and treating
[6:18] their employees better because if they
[6:20] stop trying people will leave and the
[6:23] entire Studio could fall apart mapa was
[6:26] born out of the simplest of reasons but
[6:28] has grown into something much greater
[6:31] than I'm sure any of the founders
[6:33] including Mariam himself ever expected
[6:36] with consistently high quality stories
[6:38] and the most popular anime out there
[6:40] mapa is the Juggernaut of the anime
[6:43] industry right now and seemingly shows
[6:46] no signs of slowing down now if you got
