[00:00] There are indications that there are more sinister events. This film opens with perfect realism, because if the first Final Destination happened to IRL, [00:13] you know there would be tons of conspiracy theories surrounding it. Well, I prefer to call it Death itself. Sneaky, sneaky. Tony Todd got his credit while the guy is talking about Death itself. So when Alex Browning got off that train and took the other survivors with him, [00:26] he basically screwed up Death's plan. I'm sure it wasn't at all encouraging to real-life conspiracy theorists that we conclusively know that the crackpot theory is dead-nots correct. Keeping the nameless sprint thing going, which I hate. [00:39] Sure you've got anything? Quidditch cards, cell phones? Seems ridiculous, I know, but my parents had to remind me to bring my phone places, and that's how you know this movie is pre-smartphone, and I'm old. Roadflares, sunblock, mace? [00:51] Condoms, rips, change? I mean, really, she just gets Andy his joke? He can't even be that mad. Buckle up! And that's how I know I'm a dad. When I saw her just driving away, I said, no seatbelt? But thankfully, he said, buckle up, so the win is for good parenting. [01:06] But the even more important win is the sound spraying a kid in his car. Like the band, the sound. My poor kids. If I see thick red fluid under the car, no one is going anywhere, even though that looks like brand new transmission fluid. [01:19] That's blood. You're all grounded, including me. I felt bad when Todd died. Worst thing he did was give me a new way to say I'm pooping. You've got to go talk away to K-Blood. But Kimmy's friends are laughing at the misfortune of the person collecting cans for money. So it's kind of cool if they die twice in the next five minutes. [01:38] Highway to Hell would obviously seem ominous for Kimmy, who's already feeling like something is off. But the sounds again! Dang it, the band, the sounds! I wonder if they have this problem a lot. Evan's driving a firebird, and the biker has flames on his sleeve. [01:52] I mean, I'm pretty sure this was Drane's van, but it's still a firebird. I don't want to make a joke about the biker lady also being hot, too, but I'm sorry, I'm a parent. I just wish they were both wearing helmets, and she should really zip her leather, otherwise it ain't protecting anything. Kimberly, the car is going to be fine. [02:06] Your dad's going to be fine. You're going to be fine. False on most accounts. What's that guy? Right? Absolutely insane. Someone call Ryan Gosling, because that logo is like wannabe a virus. I think what offends me most is the alternating cases and pale ale. [02:21] Try Heist. It's nice. It's pretty great, though. Getting on the highway without your seatbelt on is something else. I mean, driving anywhere, put it on. But I feel like they tried their best to make us not as sad about what death does in this one, because most of these people are screw-ups. [02:33] We better get a sequel at some point revealing that this kid also had a premonition. He tried to warn you. Never hear the old gunman or asshole! Unlikely, but that didn't stop us from fixing it. This is the smile. [02:45] By annual reminder that the McDonald's coffee lawsuit lady that we were all taught to mock as the quintessential example of frivolous lawsuits, got third-degree burns on her pelvic region, sent eight days in the hospital, needed skin grafting, and two years of medical treatment after. [02:57] All the 79-year-old woman wanted was 20K to cover her medical expenses, and Mickey D said, nah. So her lawyer sued them. Let that be a lesson to you. The corporation is never, ever, ever the good guy. Ever. Anyway, that was more like a cumbie scuffle. [03:14] Oh, brutal. There it is. The exact moment that we all decided to never, ever again drive behind a log truck. It's so classic at this point. Gory but nondescript like it's just a blood explosion. [03:26] But, wait. Think I'm about to change your life. First, I never noticed the chain dragging behind the truck before, and that triggered something in my brain for the first time in 23 years and is a revelation that's blowing my mind right now. [03:38] Because I've worked in this industry and I can't believe I never noticed. It's something that should change this scene and how you feel about log trucks, especially us millennials. Okay. Ready? Prepare to have your mind blown. That's not a log truck. [03:50] Or if it was, they modified it specifically to make this scene possible. You see, when you load a log truck, you need to be able to pile the logs up without them rolling off to size. Thus, bunks, or stakes. These tall posts that every single log truck in existence has. [04:02] I don't even know how they loaded this truck for the movie. My guess is that they removed the stakes after loading and chaining down the load? And yeah, the truck they've been using to promote the new movie is as much of a log truck as this one is. But I'll never notice, as far as I can tell, no one else ever noticed. [04:16] And the entire generation was traumatized. So, that's a win. And while I'm just shattering your suspension of disbelief, the sound is ridiculous. Logs sound almost hollow when they hit the ground because, [04:29] well, they kind of are. Especially softwood like this, with like pine or maybe spruce. It'd be a much higher pitch. That said, the crush sounds that these logs make are way more terrifying. All of these practical garfwoods are out of this world. [04:46] The first Final Destination is special and set the stage for this one, but they really figured out what people gravitated toward and amped it up to 11 in this one We very clearly know who dies and how Goodness her hair whipping around through the sun This is brutal [05:05] Also, the number of way over-the-top explosions is insane. I mean, it's three, but still. Actually, four if you count this random one in the background. I think these others are recent. Again, just on called for. I'm glad to get to go out with this reno. [05:17] Sick transition out of her eye. Forget Toby Todd is deaf, I think this lady might be the one. I'm going to cheer. I'm going to cheer. Don't worry about that. Adam Strange here giving anyone else pure Tyler Durden energy? [05:30] Oh, cars just start flying in every direction. Expectations aversion. They've clearly set up all the characters that will be saved by her vision, so we assume her friends are safe from the first wreck, but just like Alex, she loses her friends first. By the way, this is the same truck that kills her and her friends in the premonition. [05:44] You guys all heard about Flight 180, right? I love that everyone knows about the flight because of course they would, and that she sounds totally bananas even though we literally know she's right. [06:01] She's 100% right even with the story of what happened in the first movie. No way I'd believe any of it, and even less way I'm going to let you all freak out my kid, which I understand has implications about my head and elevator doors. I actually love how clearly who's next is telegraphed. [06:15] We had an inkling with Todd, but Evan is just trying to exit this life. Check out Mom's Spaghetti. Hello, Death Wind, my old friend. I've come to cook everything in a frying pan for some reason again. [06:29] Now that the H has fallen in his noodle, the fridge magnet's spelt I. Classic, I don't actually want a nice watch, just one that looks expensive, lottery purchase. Amazing bait and switch. I know he gets his hand out unscathed, and I'm still clenching. [06:43] It's also what I think some of the later films in the series get wrong. They'd have his hand get eaten up and then have his whole body munched by the disposal and we'd see it all and it'd be gross and stupid. I made an exclusive video for Nebula on why that is. [06:57] And that's why you don't throw food out the window? This wasn't death, this was karma. Death just picked up where karma left off. But another incredible fake out, a love that he still has time to move, but doesn't. Seriously memorable death, quick and brutal. [07:10] But I'm not afraid of these kinds of ladders. I'm still way more afraid of the garbage disposal, because this might be the most avoidable death in the series. Even the slowest, most casual reaction time for me does not watch the latter come towards my face. [07:22] That's a fight rule, and we're good. But it's not like he's the brightest. Yeah, ironically, the subtitle feels extra cruel. Ah, man, you don't have to have that stuff in your house. I swear, you don't. And this kid, hey, bro, maybe don't read Stephen King right before bed after almost dying that week. [07:36] Ah, MapQuest, the gold standard in printed directions for so long. Also in the well 7.0, aim 4.7, it's like a time capsule. Who directed this? That smooth transition from road to inside the Bissell Brink? Ah, David R. Ellis, a man who did stunts from 1976 to 2010. [07:51] Is she dangerous, this is you? No, honey, she affects you a lot. It's just great line delivery. Clear Rivers? I cut a wing from last week about how I thought her name was Claire, not Clear, [08:03] until like the third or fourth walkthrough, but the icing on the cake is that her name is Clear Rivers. They're just amazing parents. Amazing naming. I hope she has a sister named Roaring and a brother Moonlit. Watch out for the signs. [08:16] Recognizing those signs usually means a difference between life and death. Tell that to Carter Zavinga. You're a coward. You hide out in here because you're too damn bitter and selfish to help any other person. Hashtag team clear on this one? [08:28] Like, way team clear. I'm not saying I don't get it. Kimberly only thinks that because she's at the start of her ordeal with death. If I was clear, I wouldn't have even let her in the room. And I'd have been right, given what happens. Dope birds I shot of a padded room. Kind of looks comfy, actually. [08:41] Like, you're telling me there isn't a safe way for me to play PS5, wireless controllers, keep the system outside the room, TV behind plexiglass? Huh. Clear may be onto something here. [08:56] Can you see that? Literally the scariest moment in the entire movie. I'm not even afraid of birds, but it makes me jump every time. Excellent camera timing and sound design. Also, I truly love the reveal that Clear was already suspecting death those cracking skulls again before Kimberly showed up. [09:09] And again, masterful setup. The crane is literally how he dies, but it's not until he leaves, and so we start getting paranoid that we're about to have an Amazing Spider-Man 2 moment, but at this point, we've also been trained to assume it's a bait-and-switch, and who even knows anymore? [09:22] That little blub sound effect when the water tension was broken between the two streams? That's definitely Foley. Water doesn't make that sound when that happens, but now your attention is drawn to it. I love these movies. Dentists are super important because oral hygiene is super [09:35] important, but really? We really needed more reasons to fear this chair, honestly 90 minutes of this would effectively be a horror movie. It's a build up again. I hope that Gengler thinks he's gonna die from the fake fish but it still so intense and we all waiting for the other shoe to drop And kill someone Awful But yeah I think it meant to be a little funny This movie knows what it doing To be fair I remember being totally grossed out by it [09:56] but watching it in slow-mo it gets even funnier because it's clearly a dummy filled with a raspberry sorbet or something and the arms are way too long and his belly is distended, again, probably because it's filled with fruit pie blood. [10:09] And I can't help but wonder if Oogway knew this was coming. We are going to take some hits and we're going to take some riddance. Would she have saved him by not yelling pigeons and calling his attention to them? People are always most alive just before they die. [10:23] Don't you think? I guess Bloodworth was just as bummed as we were that the nip ring didn't somehow initiate Evan's death. I didn't know my name. Oh, that's my go. [10:35] Because he's death, or he watches the news. I don't know. A simple reminder from death that Clear is still on the list. All of these weird little things that could easily be the first step in the Rube Goldberg machine of my demise would be rare. [10:50] But everything is a death trap when death yearns for you. It yearns the wrong word. Hungers. Aches. Thirsts. I'll let you pick. She could push her baby that would have died in that car crash. A brand new soul that was never part of death's design. [11:04] If there's a whole list out of black and you start over with a clean slate. It's like a bit of a race, don't you think? I do. My assumption would actually be that death would come after that baby with the force of a thousand demons. or that it could be the Antichrist, I guess, or a death's child, little Nicky, if you will. [11:17] Decapitation shadowing. Hey, does anybody know Zion? It's absolutely bonkers that she is there. Her kid literally got flushed that day. You remember, right? [11:34] Rube Goldberg, doom dispenser. That would probably make me a convert. It's sort of like an infomercial for electrical tape. Do you hate when you use the wrong thing for something you shouldn't even be doing? We're here to help. This one really is just a group that hates being alive. [11:46] Electrical tank is aptly named, but if you want fire, use duct tape for electricity instead. I control my life, alright? Not some crazy list that death has put together. Carter says what? By the way, in rewatching scenes from my horror sequels video, I noticed that Carter peed himself after the trainings of it, [12:00] and I feel just a tiny bit worse for going so hard on him. Just a tiny bit. Rory's finally starting to get it. Disgusting, but perfectly in line with Death's MO. Again, these ways rolling in his spirit world. [12:14] If Rory hadn't seen the hook man's shadow, and Clear hadn't rushed to press the elevator button, and they hadn't called, making Nora drop the phone and get hooked, and had Burke not told her hook man was going to kill her, would Nora have survived? She only gets hooked because she drops the phone, [12:27] she only freaks out because she thinks he's trying to kill her, and the elevator only goes up because Clear called it. My insider theory from last week is starting to fall apart. I think death is messing with them. But I appreciate that after Tim's tragic but goofy death, there's a concerted effort to make the next death pretty rough and sad. [12:40] Eugene, you've got to chill out. I like to think there's at least one person on Earth who would respond correctly to, chillax, bro, but it's not Eugene. The guy who went from, y'all are crazy, I'm going to live forever, to, never mind, I'm out, in a matter of minutes. [12:52] You're going to keep it loaded? You're all done. Six in a row? This proves that death is definitely sadistic, and the only answer is to just go along with it, because even Clear got sucked back into this world. [13:04] It wasn't his turn to die. Also that the Rick and Morty fortune cookie episode rules are canon. Guys, let's not panic. He's embellished it. How do you know? You said she was going to drive into a lake. How can she if she's in protective custody? [13:17] Well, clearly Burke is new to this. Might as well say, I'll be right back as he walks into a haunted forest. Whoa, officer not trained to flag in a pregnant woman? Twice? Friendly reminder that you never point a firearm at anything you don't intend to shoot [13:29] and always act as if it floated. I need the car! You're repairing, I need the car! My van! My van! Take my van! Big mistake. Chief isn't really an operator. You should have found Boomer. Even Saul would be a better option. [13:41] I don't know. I never made it there. It took a bus. I was on the spot with some girl all over the road. I know where it is again. It's by the small inside of the teacher armory place. Her name was Val Lue. She was from Mount Abrams. She died near the close. [13:53] The call about the train wreck that saved my life. Or the night I shaped up Billy Hitchcock. Wait a minute. What are these people? People got us inside one of these. This is such a clever way to connect the stories and take it from, uh-oh, death at it again, [14:06] to realizing that death never finished cleaning up from the first movie, giving the whole thing more meaning and an extra eerie feeling. And it makes sense. People not dying when they're supposed to would create a butterfly effect. Also, the writers of this movie wrote the butterfly effect. [14:18] Being alive after we were supposed to die, it caused an outward ripple, a rift in death's design. Also, I love that we got a hint at this about the scariest scene in the movie interrupted him. Until last year when I was dispatched to clean up one of the Flight 180 survivors. [14:32] Cleaning, but I don't... Easy, easy, easy. I think you have a collapsed lung. Okay. Now I'm getting spooked, because I wrote a whim that I already decided to cut from earlier. David did you also have a spontaneous pneumothorax when you were 16 A collapsed lung for the non because I have three scars that look almost exactly like that on my back from the surgery [14:52] I cut it mostly because he's only got the one scar and I don't see a chest tube scar on his side, but now I'm starting to worry I've pissed death off by making these videos. I think it's okay. I don't smell any gas and I'm zipping. First, that means nothing for those on the list. [15:05] Second, Noel Fisher never ceases to amaze me. How is this Mickey Milkovich and Michelangelo? Watch out for dynamite! Ha, she'd know. Although I think you should warn them about bricks, too. Oh, I'm sad now. [15:17] Way to extend the ripple, Rory. When you know, it feels so obvious, but it absolutely slipped by me the first time I watched this. Really, the best part of these movies are the fake-outs that are only like half fake-outs, because we see liquid like this, we assume explosions, [15:30] but that's because we don't have death's eccentric imagination. When I die, it's gonna hurt. I wouldn't say it's gonna be totally painless, but Nora's was way worse, and pretty much everyone's death was worse in the original pileup, [15:42] especially yours, and this will be quicker, so that's something. And if I die, um, short on my porno, it's going to kind of break my mom's heart. Aw, what a gross way to be concerned for your mom. [15:54] This one stuck with me, possibly because I've been known to smoke clothes at the time, smoked my clothes in a smoker for that smoky smell, but it works so well because it's so quick. There's obviously some buildup, but we're still so focused on the gas [16:06] that it comes out of nowhere. It's all so gnarly. Good thing it's Archie Kimberly. Also, I spent much too long watching this frame by frame to see why his left arm and hand both get severed, but his right stays intact, and yes, it does make sense, [16:18] and no, I shouldn't have spent time doing that. But it's because his coke hand was above. Also, another death scene that's iconic now, but I remember my first viewing having no idea what really happened until... So everyone's confused face makes sense. [16:30] That is a beautiful forest. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. A plus take out. [16:43] They got a new life with a newborn. Death is satisfied. No! This death did surprise me. [16:55] I think we all hoped Clear was going to be our protagonist moving forward. But yeah, she's no longer a blonde and that's why she died. Whether to get that reference from my first video or not, I think I hate Bruna. Self-sacrifice. and I do enjoy that Kimberly took the correct lesson from the circumstances around everyone's death, [17:09] even if she doesn't have all the information that we do. But she had to see that she wasn't preventing anything by yelling out her premonitions after the crash, only making them happen, so embracing it would feel like the right move. [17:22] Incredible. He slaps his arms like he's doing an incredible dive and then belly flops hard. Also love that she mistook being defibrillated with being choked. Sounds about right. They were screaming and they're trying to choke me. Thanks to you, we cheated death. [17:35] Still crushing it with the lines, Burke. Might as well throw in a What's the worst that could happen while grilling on the grill called an exploding grill for good measure? But seriously, it makes for an A-plus ending. [17:47] Takes the basic concept to the first one and makes it funnier, grosser, and adds the twist of it not being someone in the original crew. And the pacing and timing are so tight, it's so ridiculous. You're a man, yeah [17:59] Hard to beat a song called My Name is Death for the credits. Final Destination was just a bunch of random students and a teacher, and it was kind of a bummer when each one died. But Final Destination 2 went out of its way to make sure we did not care about most of these people. [18:14] Tim's friends mocked this lady, Evan was too stupid to keep living, Tim smiled when this fish got stuck, and he clearly ate too much strawberry jelly. Nora was all alone in the world and ready to die anyway. Kat was a smoker. [18:26] Ew. Also, she was mean to sweet little Brian. Rory said chillax, and Eugene was flitting lanes in the rain. Jokes aside, none of them were super-duper likable, and it allowed this movie to lean into the comedy a bit more. Even if some of the deaths were among the most brutal in the series, conceptually at least. [18:40] Both this and the first are special movies to me, so I don't think I could pick a favorite. Personally, I think two goes right up to the line with the over-the-top gore while not going bonkers like the next three did. And as I've said a few times, I have a Nebula exclusive video discussing those sequels as well as the Saw and Resident Evil franchise. [18:56] It was a fun video to make, and if you're squeamish, we kept most of the vitra to a minimum. But sign up with my link and you can get 40% off an annual plan. Oh, and you can also watch everything great about Final Destination since it's currently blocked on YouTube. Yay, copyright claims! [19:09] My videos will always be live on Nebula, unfensored, ad-free, all that great stuff. So check it out, link is in the description, and next week a complete and total change of pace. Thanks for watching!
