[0:00] Title, description, and tags - these are the 3 pieces of metadata that the YouTube algorithm [0:04] uses to understand what our video is about. [0:06] If you use them effectively, you can easily reach the right audience and get more views. [0:13] But most people don't know the correct way to use them. [0:15] They put things in the title that should go in the description, write in the description [0:20] what should be in the tags, and so on, which prevents their channel from growing. [0:24] So, today's video topic is: the right way to add title, description & tags for YouTube [0:31] videos. [0:32] TITLE: Okay so if there is one factor among these three that is most important, it's the [0:37] title. [0:39] It's because the title is the first thing viewers see along with the thumbnail, and [0:43] based on that, they decide whether to watch the video or not. [0:46] So, it is essential to have titles that are optimized for both the YouTube algorithm and [0:52] human viewers. [0:54] So the first tip is Short & Easy to read Titles. [0:56] We all know that titles should have important keywords, right? [0:59] Yes, they should, BUT it doesn't mean you should stuff the title with keywords unnecessarily. [1:04] Many people think that since YouTube allows 100 characters in the title, they must use [1:07] them all and end up adding keywords without any reason. [1:11] That's not what you should do. [1:13] Try to keep the title under 70 characters in most cases. [1:15] I'm saying this for two reasons. [1:17] Firstly, it's 2023, and the average viewer's attention span has significantly reduced. [1:22] When viewers scroll through YouTube, they don't have much time to read every title and [1:27] thumbnail. [1:28] They just glance at it, and if they feel the video is worth watching, they click. [1:34] So, it's essential to have a short title that captures viewers' attention. [1:36] Secondly, if the title exceeds 70 characters, like 75, 76, 80, it will get cut off from [1:42] the end. [1:43] In the suggested section, titles get cut off after 40-50 words. [1:50] That's why YouTubers like MrBeast always keep their titles under 50 characters to make them [1:57] easily visible on every traffic source. [1:58] Of course, you don't have to be so extreme, but try to keep the title under 70 characters, [2:03] and if it exceeds that, make sure to have the main words at the beginning, so viewers [2:10] can at least see them. [2:12] The second tip is to play with viewers' emotions. [2:14] Remember I said that titles are not just for the algorithm but also for humans? [2:18] That's why it's a good idea to include phrases that evoke basic human emotions like excitement, [2:24] shock, fear, anger, or urgency. [2:26] For example, if I'm making a tips video about something, let's say "5 Tips to Get More Views," [2:33] to add excitement, I can use phrases like 'Instant Results' or 'This Always Works.' [2:39] If I want to create urgency, I can write 'Don't Miss This.' [2:42] To create fear, I can write 'Do This or Never Grow on YouTube.' [2:46] So, this way, you can tap into viewers' emotions to encourage them to click. [2:48] Don't think that just adding keywords in the title will do the trick. [2:53] Titles are as important as thumbnails in grabbing viewers' attention and getting them to click. [3:00] DESCRIPTION: There are mixed opinions about descriptions. [3:04] Some people think they are useful, while others believe they are not. [3:09] I won't give my personal opinion here; I'll tell you what YouTube says about it. [3:12] Go to YouTube Studio> Video details> Description box. [3:16] There's a question symbol, and if you click on it, YouTube says: "Writing descriptions [3:20] with keywords can help viewers find your videos more easily through search." [3:25] So, descriptions are indeed important. [3:26] Whatever SEO work you want to do for your video, you will do it here with keywords. [3:30] Many people end up doing the description's job in the title. [3:32] YouTube also suggests placing keywords in the beginning of the description. [3:34] Let's say my video is about "YouTube Thumbnails." [3:37] First, I need to find other main keywords related to this topic, which I can do by searching [3:42] directly on YouTube. [3:44] I'll put my main keyword in the search bar, and popular keyword phrases that people are [3:49] searching for will appear. [3:50] I'll copy the relevant ones that match my video and add them here. [3:52] Then, I can add an underscore before the first word of the keyword to get more important [3:58] keywords. [3:59] So, you can copy that as well. [4:01] Once you have a list of all the important keyword phrases, now it's time to add them [4:05] to the description. [4:06] The 2-3 most important keyword phrases can be directly added at the start of the description, [4:10] and you can use a slash symbol or vertical slash symbol to separate them. [4:15] YouTube also suggests giving an overview of your video in the description. [4:19] You can write a summary of what the video is about. [4:20] However, you don't have to put too much effort into this because most viewers read the description [4:25] only if there are important links or they have some confusion related to the video. [4:30] The video's overview doesn't matter that much. [4:32] So, you can use the remaining keyword phrases here in an overview format, just like this. [4:38] I have explained the video in summary form, and I have included the remaining important [4:42] keyword phrases. [4:44] You can pause and read them. [4:46] This way, you can optimize your video for the YouTube search engine. [4:50] You can also add timestamps and relevant links if needed. [4:53] Up to this point, whatever we've written in the description will vary for each video, [4:58] right? [4:59] But there are some things that will remain the same for every video. [5:00] This is called the Default Description. [5:01] Just go to YouTube Studio> Settings> Upload Defaults, and there you'll find the description [5:02] box. [5:03] Whatever you write there will be automatically added every time you upload a video. [5:07] So, you won't have to write everything from scratch every time. [5:10] You can add important links to your channel's playlists for more views, social media links, [5:17] and even a contact email for business inquiries and collaborations. [5:20] YouTube also warns against keyword stuffing in the description, which means adding excessive [5:24] tags to your video's description. [5:26] So, keep that in mind. [5:29] TAGS [5:31] : Most Indian YouTube tips channels focus too much on tags, which may lead new creators [5:37] to think that tags are crucial for getting views. [5:42] But the truth is tags do not matter much. [5:45] According to YouTube, tags have a minimal role in a video's discovery. [6:01] YouTube itself says that the video's title, thumbnail, and [6:24] description are more important than tags. [6:28] So, YouTube is clearly stating not to focus too much on tags. [6:40] Even if tags play a 0.1% role, it's still a good idea to add them. [6:46] So, how to add tags? [6:47] There are various ways to do it. [6:50] I manually search and add tags. [6:52] I look for keyword phrases related to the video's topic, just like I did for the description. [7:02] If you find it challenging, you can use TubeBuddy or VidIQ to see what tags other creators are [7:09] using for similar topics and use them for your videos. [7:12] Another website, RapidTags.com, allows you to enter your main keyword, and it will generate [7:16] useful tags for you. [7:18] Remember, YouTube also suggests using tags for common misspellings or variations of your [7:24] content or channel name. [7:25] However, tags are less helpful in 2023. [7:26] In the past, they used to matter a lot, but not anymore. [7:36] Okay, now that we have learned how to optimize our video, the question is, will doing all [7:51] this bring in views? [7:53] The answer is both yes and no. [7:55] Proper SEO will help your video rank, but it's not the only factor. [8:14] YouTube's main goal is to keep viewers on its platform, so it considers other metrics [8:33] like CTR, Average View Duration, and retention to rank videos. [8:37] If a video has a low CTR and poor watch time, even the best SEO won't help. [8:46] So, focus on the right things like title, thumbnail, and making engaging content. [8:51] Improving these aspects will lead you to success. [8:53] So, watch the thumbnail video, learn how to create engaging thumbnails, and I'll see you [8:56] there. [8:57] Bye!!
