[00:02] that lets you share your audience with other channels like yours, which is probably going to be amazing. They made a monetization update that let you say and more at the beginning of your videos without having to worry about getting [00:15] demonetized. But then they did it. They made an announcement that set certain announced that they're going to be using AI to predict the age of people based on how they use YouTube. you know, for the kids because it's always about the kids, [00:29] get caught collecting kids personal information and tracking them across the internet and end up having to pay $170 million to the FTC, or of course in okay for kids to drink sugar-filled soft drinks, stuff their faces with processed [00:43] environments where they can go to school without having to wear Kevla. But even out and even trying to get petitions signed like it's actually going to do this means for YouTubers like you and me. Is this going to impact our views? [00:57] Is this going to impact our ad revenue in any way? What's the overall impact understand what's going on. According to YouTube, when the system identifies a their age appropriate experiences and protections, including disabling [01:12] personalized advertising, turning on well-being tools, adding safeguards to recommendations, including limiting repetitive views of some types of content. To be more specific, we already know what personalized ads are, but when [01:24] tools, this is what it means. Some of their digital well-being tools are time watched profile that includes a reminder to take breaks, a reminder when it's bedtime, and an option to turn autoplay on or off on phones and tablets. These [01:38] can use them, too. Let me know in the comments if you even knew this time these tools is what they call a scheduled notification digest. This notifications into one so you don't get [01:52] digital well-being tools, they also have teen specific defaults for the 13 to 17 crowd that they rolled out in 2021, where it's pretty much the items I just went over, plus the addition of disabling YouTube autoplay and adding [02:05] crisis resource panels. These panels are the screens that pop up to help them in something and they need help. This is a good one and I think it's great. Now, let's talk about safeguards. According to this Vive expansion GTM case study, [02:17] idea what that means. They have six categories of content that are safeguard flags. One, content that compares physical features or idealizes some body types over others. Two, it idealizes specific fitness levels or body weights. [02:31] Three, features social aggression, non-cont fights, or intimidation. Four, includes unrealistic or bad financial advice. Five, portrays delinquency or negative behaviors. Six, portrays teens to be cruel and malicious or encourages [02:46] them to ridicule others. Based on that information, here's the content that might have some type of reach or monetization impact. And that's if and only if you have a bunch of young people interacting with your content or if [02:59] YouTube's system inaccurately flags people and they refuse at scale to an adult. And keep in mind that I'm referencing these based on the different these categories. for content that compares physical features or idealizes [03:15] some body types over others. And number two, idealizes specific fitness levels or body weights. Content like before and after comparisons. Content focused on calorie restrictions. Any content that analyzes somebody's looks. Glow-up [03:28] people feel inadequate. Content comparing body types that might frame one as better than the other. Content that focuses on ideal body types. For and you make videos about ways that you can dress to make yourself look thinner, [03:43] depending on what's going on in the videos, possibly some fitness content, framed from the packaging in terms of the thumbnail and title and the video content itself. For the third one, where it features social aggression, no [03:58] and certain type of challenges. Any content where it publicly humiliates off like they're getting ready to fight or something like that. Possibly police cam footage and road rage, that sort of thing, because again, it's violent and [04:13] fighting and intimidation. For the fourth one, it includes unrealistic or self-explanatory. It essentially protects kids from falling for get-rich quick schemes or anything where they're going to pay money in exchange for [04:27] to make money, that kind of stuff. However, I'm not sure how YouTube might have a team of people that look at that sort of thing. I don't know. But when it comes to that, there's a lot open to interpretation. So, for example, [04:39] if you are somebody that's in the crypto space, then in that case, you might have people coming at you saying that what you're giving is bad advice, even though I'm not sure exactly where that line gets crossed, but that's one of the [04:52] things that they're trying to protect kids from. Five, portraying delinquency or negative behaviors. This type of content is content that teaches people how to cheat on tests or lie or deceive people, that type of thing. Content [05:04] behavior, which again, I'm not sure that one. And pranks are probably going to fall into this one, too. For the cruel and malicious or encourages them to ridicule others. Again, pranks are [05:17] as harassing, shaming, or mocking others. Now, I'm not sure where gaming because, as you know, a lot of video games are violent. They do break a lot of these rules, and you also have a lot of young people that are gamers that are [05:32] making content for other young people that are also into those games. So, it's going to have on them, if any at all, or if it's going to be devastating. types, as long as you're not doing anything shady or violent or anything [05:47] that's in some weird gray area, then you're probably not going to notice any things that I just went over have been in place for a while. Some of them since 2021. And these are restrictions that are already on YouTube on teens and [06:01] younger people. So, the only thing that's going to make a difference is if YouTube system starts falsely flagging people as being underage and then those people just flat out refuse to give an ID to take a selfie or to put in a [06:17] age. And that whole thing has to happen at scale for this thing to become an issue. And I'm not sure if premium users even have to think about this because our credit cards are on file with YouTube. So, they know that we're of [06:30] age. So, I'm not sure if accounts that are premium users are going to be impacted by this at all, which is kind of shady, but it's kind of awesome at If you want to see if your content has any restrictions at all, all you have to [06:42] in your creator studio and look in the restrictions area. You can also double restricted mode by clicking on your profile picture while on YouTube. Then it on and then go look at your channel. Any content that you can't see is going [06:57] to be the same exact content that the people who refuse to put in their IDs or stuff that they're not going to be able to see on your channel. And everything else is going to be fine. And to be clear, I am not a fan of this AI age [07:09] identification thing at all. I know their system makes mistakes when it people get demonetized for things that they shouldn't be demonetized and then everything's okay all of a sudden. I know channels accidentally get taken [07:22] down every now and then. like there's all kinds of mistakes that their AIs make and it's going to make mistakes when it comes to this as well. So, it's unfortunate. Unfortunately, there's nothing that we can do about it. But I'm [07:35] just not a fan of this because I know OpenAI is also doing some of this. I know other platforms are starting to implement this. I'm just not a huge fan. I mean, there's nothing we can do, but I'm just not a huge fan of this at all. [07:48] name is Nick. I have a whole entire YouTube channel filled with content that example, I have this video right here that will help you learn how to make ahead and check that out now before you get accidentally or incorrectly flagged [08:02] as a kid and you can't watch it anymore. So, go check it out. I'll see you over So, go check it out. I'll see you over in the next
