[00:02] Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man, that is about unity, world healing, My most recent channel, Speakeasy Sophisticated Sports Talk, is a sports show. Hot takes, debates, we make you [00:16] do you do when you feel like you didn't idea didn't hit the way that you want? The first thing I asked myself is why. Why didn't it do what I thought it would do? The second thing I asked myself is [00:29] do I care? You know what I mean? Like Why is the first thing? Cuz like, okay, to make it reach more people, that's on me. Second is do I care? Because if it's a more niche conversation, right? Then it's just not going to get as many [00:43] views. Was there a moment when you realized that you could do this as your livelihood? Yes, I when Oprah agreed to produce it. That was a that was a moment. [00:56] >> That was a moment that I was like, oh, you know what? I must be pretty good at Uncomfortable Conversations. I drop it on YouTube. I don't know what's going to be of it. I have no subscribers at the time. Um I get a call from Oprah. She's [01:09] like, "Hey, are you free to FaceTime later today?" I'm like, "Am I free to >> "Are you free to FaceTime?" Was there any advice you got early on from a creator, maybe Oprah, that really helped you or like really clicked for you as a [01:22] >> Oprah said, "Don't build a show based upon famous people, cuz eventually you'll run out of famous people." Um and so that told me build a show around the so that told me build a show around the content, not around the celebrity. Cuz [01:35] celebrities. And fascinatingly enough, though you may never run out of celebrities in this era of content creation, celebrities are oversaturated. So you need to find a way to make sure people care about your content or how is [01:49] your content unique? Cuz celebrity has a movie and they're hitting every single platform. So why do I want to watch you? And what are they saying on your saying on anybody else's? >> Right. Cuz there's some people who watch [02:01] and choose based on the guest. >> Bingo. And you want to be somebody who >> Bingo. And you want to be somebody who they watch for the host or they know the culture that the host is going to create. So even if I'm watching the [02:15] celebrity on that host's channel, I know that host is going to do it in a different type of way. >> Oh, I love that.
