[0:00] what is rpm youtube has recently added [0:02] the new metric [0:04] into the dashboard under analytics under [0:06] revenue you'll see [0:07] the old-fashioned cpm and now [0:10] rpm rpm is new and rpm has been placed [0:13] there [0:14] because it's important for youtube in [0:16] some way shape or form [0:17] to teach you that that's why it's been [0:19] given such a high priority [0:21] normally when they do something like [0:22] this it's something that you need to pay [0:24] attention to just like when they moved [0:25] watch time [0:26] to the top and they started talking [0:28] about watch time more it meant that [0:29] there was focusing on [0:30] watch time more often rpm is what you [0:33] earn [0:34] from your channel this is exactly what [0:36] you get from the slice of the revenue of [0:38] every ad and every sticker and every [0:41] super chat [0:42] that is sent to you so how is this any [0:44] different to cpm well cpm [0:46] is your entire channel and the [0:48] advertisers [0:50] before youtube takes money away [0:53] from you when you sign up for an adsense [0:54] account you'll have a deal of around [0:56] about 35 to 40 percent [0:58] of the income the other 60 to 65 percent [1:02] maybe even up to 70 goes to youtube they [1:05] find the ads [1:06] they serve it against your specific [1:08] videos they take a large cut [1:09] you get 20 30 40 now the longer you've [1:13] been on the platform [1:14] and the more high priority your channel [1:15] happens to be you may get a better cut [1:17] of that cpm including things like super [1:20] chats [1:20] donations that kind of thing so how is [1:22] rpm calculated you get your adverts [1:25] and let's say it's a 70 30 split you get [1:28] your 30 [1:29] of the revenue they take the rest if you [1:31] get a super chat [1:33] once again youtube takes their 70 just [1:35] to simplify it if you have a super [1:37] sticker [1:38] at some point during your super chat [1:39] thing then once again there goes the cut [1:41] and nowadays if you'll see below here [1:44] i've got a shelf of all of my [1:46] wonderful t-shirts and mug designs you [1:48] can get a start creating mug a start [1:50] creating t-shirt [1:51] leggings phone cases that kind of thing [1:53] all of those down there also have some [1:55] kind of [1:55] revenue share so rpm actually means what [1:58] you [1:58] earn from it all for example i might be [2:00] getting a 10 11 12 [2:02] cpm so for every 1000 views in theory [2:05] my videos or my channel earns 12 13 14 [2:09] bucks [2:10] but my rpm is what hits my bank account [2:12] in a month's time [2:13] so let's say my rpms are around about [2:15] four dollars [2:16] for every 1 000 views once youtube's [2:18] taken out all of their cats and my [2:19] t-shirts and my super chats and stuff [2:21] like that then [2:22] i would get that three four dollars was [2:24] youtube [2:25] makes the remaining seven eight nine [2:27] dollars from the rest of the cpm [2:29] why is rpm important well it's important [2:32] because it now clarifies [2:33] exactly what you earn for a very long [2:35] time you used to look at the cpm [2:37] and then kind of guess or you'd look at [2:39] your thousand views per month [2:41] and then you'd have a look at a figure [2:43] and then you'd realize okay [2:44] 10 000 views gets me x amounts 100 000 [2:47] views got me x amount and then you [2:49] started working out in your head that [2:51] that's your channel average and it would [2:52] go up when you got more views [2:54] that's why most people suggest that it's [2:55] maybe one two or three dollars per [2:57] thousand view when [2:58] truly it's not because if a video is [3:01] seen a thousand times it doesn't always [3:03] have adverts against it every single [3:05] time and if you're [3:06] doing live streams for example you're [3:08] sat there for three or four hours maybe [3:10] getting a load of channel donations then [3:11] you may not get thousands of thousands [3:13] of views but you might be getting [3:15] a good few super chats that boost that [3:17] as well so you've seen a creator get 50 [3:19] quid in a super chat [3:20] but what that actually means is they [3:22] made a run about [3:23] 25 bucks maybe less but for youtubers [3:26] it's very important to understand what [3:27] your rpm happens to be [3:29] especially if you're going to turn it [3:30] into a business so it can expand and you [3:32] understand [3:32] how much money you're putting in how [3:34] much you get out per thousand views [3:36] and then you can tweak it accordingly so [3:38] how could you [3:39] change this value how could you make [3:41] more money how could you raise your rpm [3:43] first of all [3:44] increase your cpm because the more [3:46] you're earning then you get a percentage [3:47] of that pie [3:48] the larger that piece of pie becomes [3:50] monetary value-wise [3:52] if you're creating content that's very [3:54] edgy that gets demonetized all the time [3:56] then [3:57] that's going to hurt you in the rpm [3:58] bracket but here i talk about business i [4:00] talk about money and i talk about [4:02] youtube so it's a [4:03] safer topic for them to place adverts [4:05] against against a slightly [4:06] higher cpm i tend to find the [4:08] entertainment stuff [4:10] so gaming and lifestyle gets a slightly [4:13] lower [4:14] cpm because it's common and there's [4:15] loads of it whilst if you're getting [4:17] very very specific and you're people [4:18] like graham steffen in which you're [4:20] talking very specifically about [4:22] tax and real estate and investment and [4:25] that kind of thing then [4:26] because you are a rarity they'll pay [4:28] slightly more [4:29] for it also you've got to think of the [4:31] companies that would advertise against [4:32] that [4:33] if i'm talking about finance then banks [4:36] and insurance companies are going to be [4:37] placing adverts against me banks [4:39] and insurance companies aren't going to [4:40] be placing adverts against me playing [4:42] with a kid's toy [4:43] because a toddler or a 10 year old [4:46] doesn't really want to buy [4:47] home insurance and life insurance that's [4:49] not the target market to increase your [4:51] rpm you can also look at sales [4:54] therefore the more t-shirts you buy the [4:56] better cut you might get [4:57] this is thinking on the youtube platform [4:59] in itself if obviously you sell stuff [5:00] outside the youtube ecosystem youtube [5:03] doesn't take a cut at all [5:05] so if you wanted to buy some thumbnail [5:07] templates for example or you want to use [5:09] any of my affiliate links there's links [5:11] down below where you can buy those kind [5:12] of things and you have those kind of [5:13] arrangements elsewhere or if you hire me [5:15] directly as some kind of coach then [5:17] i would not have to give youtube their [5:20] 70 [5:20] slice and you get an hour of my time for [5:23] example the rpm is only calculated on [5:25] the platform [5:26] here what they earn here what is [5:28] funneled through [5:29] youtube and adsense and spat out at the [5:31] other end but you can boost that by [5:34] selling more t-shirts or encouraging [5:36] more super chats you've got those funky [5:37] little stickers you can look for [5:39] donations you can figure out some way [5:40] that you can do a q a with them [5:42] super chatting you or you can do channel [5:44] audits some channels do that but once [5:46] again anything that comes through the [5:47] youtube platform will then be sliced [5:49] down into revenue shares which then [5:51] create their rpm but in theory if you've [5:54] only got a video that only has [5:55] adverts then that would have standard [5:57] cpm but if that video then also has [5:59] super chats [6:00] and merch sales then that will raise the [6:04] cpm [6:05] of that video and then overall the rpm [6:07] of that video because that video in [6:08] itself becomes more of a [6:10] sales magnet i hope that makes sense but [6:13] there are other ways that you can boost [6:14] cpm in fact i boosted my cpm like 10 [6:17] fold [6:18] just by focusing on certain tweaks [6:20] there's a video here [6:21] that can help you with all of that go [6:22] and check it out i'll see you in the [6:24] next video
