[00:03] You've come at a very exciting time because we just acquired venture capital funding, baby. The meeting did get a little dicey there for a sec when they started asking questions like, how could this asinine idea possibly make any [00:18] money? What do you need five meat freezers for if everything you serve is rotten? And people literally can't eat trash anime. It's not food. They would die. But after I showed them our global human traff- uh [00:33] involuntary concierge service network, Mr. Teal's eyes lit right up. Like literally, they were glowing. Then he started chanting in I don't know, Spanish or something. A goat exploded and this massive pile of [00:47] money just emerged out of a circle of flames on the floor. Don't worry though, you have my word that we will not use a single yen of that newly acquired capital to improve our service or ingredient selection even a little bit. [01:02] And you can rest assured we haven't let all of this incredible success stop us from getting another sponsor. This is the hottest trash of fall 2025 brought to you by Honkai Star Rail, which is currently in the midst of a massive [01:17] crossover event with one of Shay Garbage's main suppliers, Crunchyroll. From now till January 27th, the world's largest anime platform is teaming up with the galaxy's most epic free anime RPG to unlock exclusive rewards in both. [01:34] All you got to do is link your accounts to get a free 14-day trial of Crunchyroll's mega fan plan, which you can then use to complete various weekly missions like watching Honkai Star Rail trailers and the gorgeous new Chimeric [01:47] Park animation short on Crunchyroll's event page to earn a whole mass of in-game rewards. One of those trailers will introduce you to Siren, the new character at the heart of this crossover event, personality belies hidden [02:02] tenderness and mysterious connections with the crew of the Astral Express. And naturally, her ice type remembrance abilities will be of great help in the game's snappy yet strategic turn-based combat, which if this is somehow the [02:16] first time you're hearing of Honkai Star Rail, is a ton of fun. If you like me are a sucker for a good JRPG, this is one of the best both in terms of gameplay and world design. I mean, you got waifus on a train in space, baby. [02:31] That's a special interest triple threat. And it's free to play on basically everything, including whatever thing you're watching this on right now, unless it's a smart TV. So what are you waiting for? Scan my QR code or click [02:45] the link in the diddly-do to download Honkai Star Rail, connect your account to Crunchyroll, and start playing today. As always, we'll be starting the night off with a nice light trash petitizer that I think has a little bit of [02:59] something for everyone. For the ladies, a whole load of shirtless hunks. And for the laddies, enough video game references to keep you going references to keep you going until the low-fi vibe of an ED kicks in. [03:12] Adapted from a wildly popular Western webtoon of the same name, Let's Play tells the tale of Sam, a fresh-faced indie dev who finds her dreams shattered one day when her favorite YouTuber, Marshall Law, fantastic handle, by the [03:28] way, plays her game very wrong, very publicly, causing his fans to review bomb it so hard that not itch.io damn near suspends her account. Then, to make matters worse, the e-celeb jerk moves into the apartment next door. And to [03:44] make them even worse than that, oh no, he's hot. It's an inherently compelling romantic conundrum straight out of You've Got Mail. There's someone you really want to bang, but also they're low-key ruining your life. A simple, [03:58] effective dramatic set up that's only slightly undercut by the fact that Marshall isn't actually ruining Sam's life at all. Sure, for most people having the game you spent years making between classes and shifts at your [04:13] shitty, soul-crushing office job buried by one lazy live stream would be a life ruiner, but most people aren't being groomed to inherit their shitty, soul-crushing office from their kajillionaire CEO father, which kind of [04:30] sucks all of the tension out of that particular storyline. Luckily, Let's Play has two more stories to juggle with this cute coffee shop boy named Link who's been crushing on Sam ever since she was a sick little kid stuck in the [04:44] hospital where his dad died, and the diet 50 Shades thing she's got going on with her shitty, soul-crushing office manager, Charles, who also happens to know Marshall from the fencing classes that he stopped taking because his rich [04:59] CEO father was crushing his artistic dreams and making him all depressed and [ __ ] So, I guess no one's actually got any kind of financial stake in the core conflict of this anime. But you know what they do [05:14] got? Rippling abs and huge honkers, which at the end of the day is all you really need in a mildly spicy soap opera like this. I'm giving it two novelty like this. I'm giving it two novelty trash baskets of garlic bread. Now, I do [05:28] understand that for some of you that's just not going to be game-y enough, no matter how game-y it is. So we've also set aside a generic RPG fantasy trash petitizer for those with uh romance-sensitive palettes, which for [05:43] once isn't an isekai or one of those [ __ ] things, but only just barely. Hero Without a Class, Who Even Needs Skills? is about a hero who, get this, doesn't have a class even though he [05:57] doesn't have a class even though he lives in a job system-based RPG. How embarrassing. Obviously, that puts him at something of a disadvantage next to everyone else who can just download spells and sword skills directly from [06:10] the goddess like Neo learning kung fu, but it doesn't actually stop him from learning kung fu. It just means he's got to do it manually, which in turn means he's pretty much the only guy on the entire planet who actually knows how to [06:26] swing a sword with his own two hands. And also, the skills he can learn aren't limited by his class, just his own physical abilities, which if you've ever seen an isekai or one of those [ __ ] things before, I don't have to tell you [06:41] are completely off the charts. [Music] [06:57] literally every woman he meets immediately drops her panties for him, especially his little sister. Though it is worth noting that most of the waifus in this anime are unusually psychotic about it. Again, especially his little [07:12] sister, but especially especially the daughter of the only guild master willing to take a chance on his classless ass who keeps trying to jump into bed with him and trick him into marrying her, even though all he [07:24] wants to do is ogle the gazongas on his tomboy childhood friend. That makes for a pretty fun gag for like five minutes, which the anime drags out for several hours. This one gets one basket of incredibly stale garlic bread, which uh [07:41] looks pretty much exactly like the other garlic bread, but uh not cuz I embezzled most of our art budget and uh we're trying to stretch the assets as much as just what stale bread looks like. There's nothing I can do about what [07:55] stale bread looks like, right? Don't worry though, we whipped up an entirely new kind of bread to rate our final trash petitizer option {slash} first excuse to plug the uncensored Patreon cut of this menu. Hands off Sawada-nai [08:08] de Kotesashi-kun, a Love Hina-like about a guy who becomes the caretaker of an all-female dorm at a high school for athletic prodigies as part of his quest to follow in his parents' footsteps and become the best sports masseuse to ever [08:23] live. But to make that dream come true, he's going to have to not get fired first, which is easier said than done when his magic hands cause any woman he massages to make perfectly normal Food Wars eating noises. The intended effect [08:37] of which for the presumably horny viewer is only slightly compromised by the accompanying slideshow of Picasso-esque sex homunculi that really make you appreciate the relative animation quality of One Punch Man season 3. If [08:53] you're just going to have to trust that was a real sick burn. In theory, this one's for the gooners, but in practice, it's more the kind of anime you put on cuz if your dad's ever going to finally walk back in with those cigarettes, it's [09:07] going to be in the middle of this [ __ ] I'm giving Hands Off four baskets of our brand new, finally graded jalapeño baguettes. [09:19] Oh, I see. That's a little too spicy for a trash petitizer. Okay, we'll start the main menu off with a nice chill isekai to balance that out. A Wild Last Boss Appeared, the story of elite MMO gamer who managed to take over the entire [09:35] virtual world before losing it all in an epic final battle with his former companions. Soon after, he finds himself summoned back into the game world some summoned back into the game world some 200 years later as his own OP waifu [09:49] avatar, Lufas the Black-Winged Overlord, and sets out in the guise of an anonymous adventurer on a quest to reunite her scattered army and save the world that she once conquered. If that premise sounds familiar to you, hey, me [10:04] too. After literally one episode, I was calling this thing Overlord at Home, but the deeper in I get, the more I'm starting to think that Overlord might actually be this at home. Instead of just being a spooky scary skeleton man [10:18] who showed up out of nowhere to do evil [ __ ] one day, Luphas has deep ties to her world's history that make her return a massive geopolitical deal, which in turn make it make sense that she'd want to hide her identity just to not deal [10:33] with all of that [ __ ] And in an interesting wrinkle, this isn't quite the game world that Protag-kun remembers. Rather, it's the official remembers. Rather, it's the official canonized novelization of the Eve [10:47] Online-style emergent narrative that he and his friends created together, which he hasn't actually read because he got isekai'd right after doing it. So, the avatar he's inhabiting has her own personality, memories, and relationships [11:03] that he discovers alongside the viewer, and which may or may not be overwriting parts of him. As for his own relationships with the seven heroes that defeated Luphas, their in-game actions loom just as large over the world as [11:20] loom just as large over the world as hers, especially their failure to defeat the Demon King after fighting her, which some of them are still living with the consequences of, but only their characters, not the players themselves. [11:34] So, Luphas's goofy road trip to get the evil army back together in a magic talking RV is persistently underscored by a subtle melancholy that she is, in a [11:47] sense, utterly alone in this world. The original author and the animators of this adaptation both clearly cared deeply not just for the big epic battle stuff, but the low-key character moments that give this story its soul. To be [12:03] clear, though, those big battles are epic and fun as too. Hmm. epic and fun as too. Hmm. [Music] [12:21] And despite how artsy I'm making it sound, this show's also got more than enough obligatory hot spring action with smooth jazz and gender stuff to earn itself a trio of golden dumpsters. And if every new party member ends up being [12:37] as fun and memorable as Libra the sassy android, Aries the fanboy sheep, and Dina the sentient piece of in-game furniture from Luphas's old throne room have proven to be, I might even have to bump it up to a four before the season's [12:51] out. If Overlord at Home is what you're craving, though, you're not in luck because all we have is My Gift Level 9,999 Unlimited Gacha Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon, I'm Out for Revenge, [13:05] which, believe it or not, is the short version of the full title Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon, My Trusted Companions Tried to Kill Me, But Thanks to My Gift of an Unlimited Gacha, I Got Level 9,999 [13:20] Friends and am Out for Revenge on My Former Party and the World, which, as the title suggest, uh, directly states, is a dark fantasy edgefest that gets even edgier than most of these [ __ ] things by saying, "Hey, [13:35] bullies, it doesn't matter if you don't come to school I mean, the adventurer's guild tomorrow because I'm declaring war on the entire planet." And not just any [13:47] kind of war. COME ON, BILL. RAISE WAR. BECAUSE THIS Kirito wasn't betrayed by just any kind of party. A whole rainbow coalition of every other fantasy race in the world personally selected Light to [14:02] be lifted up out of the literal mud and represent all of humankind as their trusted friend and companion for literally 3 minutes of total screen time before they were like, "Psych, loser. We're all super-duper reverse racist, [14:18] actually. And the sexy elf was only pretending to want to [ __ ] you because we thought you might have some super OP cheat powers that she could inherit from your sperm, but you don't. So, now we're going to Skyrim reference you and laugh [14:32] at you while you die, then go kill everyone you've ever known and loved just for shits and giggles." But before they can finish the job, he triggers a teleport trap that sends him to the lowest floor of the dungeon, where it [14:44] turns out, you're never going to believe this, he does have a super OP cheat power, actually. It's just that the rates for his infinite gacha skill are determined by how dense the magic around him is. So, while he was pulling literal [14:58] garbage on the surface, down in the dungeon depths, he's basically guaranteed rare drops from every roll. And as the name of the skill suggests, he gets infinity rolls. So, queue up a time skip where he just sits there [15:12] mashing 10 pulls for several years until he's summoned a whole Walmart Nazarex worth of OP warrior ladies who want to him, sexy battle maids who want to [ __ ] him, an entire town of civilians who want to [ __ ] him, and also it kind of [15:26] summoned want to [ __ ] him, too. But instead of doing any [ __ ] Light's going to make them pay. Make them all pay. Starting with the wolfman Garu, who [15:38] gets reintroduced with, honestly, one of the best background character lines in the best background character lines in any anime I've ever seen. [15:51] think he is, this is brain-dead aura farming highest power level wins slop, and Light's power level is literally IT'S OVER 9,000. IT'S OVER 9,000. SO, [16:09] YEAH, after that, while his servants are busy plotting his next revenge, Light-sama decides to go kill time doing the whole Overlord pretend adventurer thing under the clever alias of Dark-sama, and inevitably gets caught up [16:25] in all the expected edgy fantasy anime [ __ ] from befriending helpless woobies who remind him of his past self with just the biggest death flags you've ever seen flying over their heads. Uh, there's some magic serial killers, elf [16:40] pists, the whole shebang. I guess it does slightly mix things up by having an elf do the raping, but that's the closest thing to a narrative innovation you're going to find in this entire anime. Unlimited Gacha is the perfect [16:53] anime for anyone out there who thought Shield Hero's villains were too complex and likable, and I'm giving it a nasty-ass biohazard bin full of Dungeons and Grand Dragons game books. But while that is very clearly the season's most [17:07] morally reprehensible anime, it somehow doesn't have Fall's worst title. In fact, A Gatherer's Adventure in Isekai might just be the worst localized anime [17:19] might just be the worst localized anime title of all time. Like, okay, sure, dictionary now, but you can't just [ __ ] do that, man. It's not a one-to-one loan word you can just hot swap with another world to save a few [17:32] swap with another world to save a few characters. In English, isekai only describes the genre that it's the name of. So, that's like calling a movie The of. So, that's like calling a movie The Sound of Musical or Once Upon a Time in [17:44] Western or Requiem for a hack piece of [ __ ] Satoshi Kon knockoff. Sorry if I'm harping on about this grammatical atrocity too much, but it's kind of the only interesting thing to say about this tropha slop. Protag-kun's cheat powers [17:58] literally just survival crafting game icon spam that helps him find rare ingredients slightly faster, which, as someone who enjoys fantasy stories with memorably lore-rich, contextually relevant loot in video games with actual [18:13] game design in them, just sounds like purgatory to me. Uh, I guess they do kind of shake things up by giving the Kirito this little pet baby dragon thing, but it might just be the most industry plant ass mascot I have ever [18:28] seen in an anime. And okay, I know technically every anime mascot's an industry plant, but just look at this [ __ ] thing. but just look at this [ __ ] thing. [Music] [18:48] old isekai [ __ ] you've seen a million times before. Monsters, magic, dungeons, adventurer's guilds, elf tits, all that jazz. I suppose it is also notable they jazz. I suppose it is also notable they stapled those elf tits to Asmon Gold. [19:12] But that's the last joke I have written in my notes cuz I got bored and checked out before I even found out if she takes a bath or not. I would give this one a trash can full of growing grass and drying paint, but frankly, that's still [19:25] way too interesting, so we'll have to settle for a pile of dirt and some bare And while we're at it, I think I'm going to have to dig up a second pile for Dad's a Hero, Mom's a Spirit, I'm a Reincarnator because, okay, look, just [19:40] imagine that you've been reincarnated as the child of a legendary hero and the queen of spirits, born with the ability to spontaneously generate and alter matter on an atomic level at will. After [19:54] a decade spent recuperating from his near-fatal final battle with the Demon King, your dad takes you on a trip back to his hometown to check up on things and acclimate his new magical body to reality, only to be met with a populace [20:08] struggling under unexpected economic burdens and yearning for his return. What is the first thing that you'd want to do with your cool powers and badass dad? No, seriously, take a second to think about it. Any answer is valid, I [20:24] just want to see where your imagination runs with that setup. Because I am willing to bet not a single solitary person in this entire restaurant said, [20:37] "Spend an entire episode helping my uncle divorce his fat [ __ ] WIFE." [20:56] IT REALLY JUST PUTS AN AWFUL taste in my mouth, and not the kind you come to Shay Garbage for. Like, here you are indulging yourself in some wholesome magical girl dad vibes, fantasizing about conjuring diamond rings from thin [21:11] air, then in stomps this ridiculous caricature straight out of a Reddit creative writing exercise with a design so viciously unflattering it'd make the so viciously unflattering it'd make the Little Britain costume department say, [21:25] "Bit on the nose, innit?" And when I say stomps, I mean every step she takes stomps, I mean every step she takes sounds like [ __ ] GODZILLA'S COMING. [21:45] against fantasy stories focused on political marriages and delicate affairs of state. I love that sort of thing, but to keep that sort of thing from putting most people to sleep, you really need complex, nuanced characters capable of [22:00] unpredictable social maneuvering, not a degraded political cartoon of Marie Antoinette and a crown prince so wicked you can literally see the evil radiating [22:12] off him. So, uh yeah, I'm giving this one the same rating as the last one, except this time the planks are rotten and full of termites, and the dirt pile and full of termites, and the dirt pile is poop. It's full of poop. Now, if you [22:25] are in the market for a smartly written fantasy anime about the delicate intricacies of nobility and statecraft, you definitely came to the wrong restaurant, but but you're still in luck because May I Ask for One Final Thing [22:39] needs to put a whole lot of work into crafting tense, multifaceted political dilemmas to make it as funny as possible when Scarlet El Vandimion ignores all that and elegantly beats the ever-loving [ __ ] out of anyone remotely responsible. [22:54] [ __ ] out of anyone remotely responsible. RIGHTEOUSNESS IS ON MY SIDE. pigs can fly. Don't you see, Prince Julius? Violence is the answer to the [23:08] very trickiest of pickles. Perhaps it will become a common proverb one day. Through a brilliantly conceived plot that I'm loath to spoil, this anime delivers a clever deconstruction of not just the villainess genre, but the [23:21] just the villainess genre, but the entire isekai-adjacent escapist fantasy anime space, sharply critiquing the narcissistic conceit of treating an entire world as your own personal playground. But it doesn't let that stop [23:35] it from having a ton of its own self-indulgent anime fun, surrounding its heroine with a whole reverse harem's worth of uniquely punchable fantasy boys worth of uniquely punchable fantasy boys plus one very good dog, and absolutely [23:49] reveling in bloody and brutal enough action to satisfy any isekai bro who'd normally never look twice at something with ball gowns this frilly. Using her god-granted powers to warp time itself plus her own hard-earned rock-hard [24:05] muscles, Scarlet approaches even the thorniest of diplomatic problems with the same delightfully simple solution. Putting your peers down to raise your own station? That's a bad one. Exploiting the downtrodden to enrich [24:20] yourself? That's a bad one. Manipulating religion to control people? That's a bad one. Participating in the slave trade? Ooh, you better believe that's a bad one. And unlike Jasper, it never gets old. May I Ask for One Final Thing gets [24:36] four thrift store racks of secondhand prom dresses blazing with raw aura. Thanks to the villainess boom, ladies have been making great strides lately in reclaiming the isekai space, which, as we all know, used to be their [24:51] near-exclusive domain, dating back to the days of retro mecha isekai like Escaflowne and Rayearth to the literary classics Oz and Wonderland, and all the classics Oz and Wonderland, and all the way back to the OG yaoi isekai, the Epic [25:06] of Gilgamesh. But one area where villainess anime still trail their male contemporaries is in the realm of cringey self-insert fanfic [ __ ] which Kiritos have had on lock for decades now. To challenge their [25:20] dominance in that particular arena, we'd need a villainess isekai with not just zero, but negative shame. A story bold enough to place its heroine not just in any old generic video game fantasy setting, but a world purpose-built to [25:36] setting, but a world purpose-built to fulfill her own very specific wishes in the terabad self-insert Mary Sue fantasy adventure she started writing about adventure she started writing about herself when she was 12. And that anime [25:49] is called The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess. [26:04] interesting if Konoha Satoru just got to step into the very fancy shoes of Konoha Magnolia, smooch a handsome prince a whole bunch, have a whole bunch of other handsome guys swoon all over her, and ultimately save the world with a [26:18] combination of author knowledge and fabulous secret powers. So, instead, she gets reincarnated as Iana Magnolia, the jealous, evil sister who got her dumb ass banished and assassinated in the prologue chapter of the original story. [26:34] And while she does, of course, avert that first death flag, it'd be a pretty short anime otherwise, that still leaves her with two pretty big problems. A handsome butler guy who's definitely still going to assassinate her if her [26:49] Mary Sue sister is ever hurt or killed, and a Mary Sue sister whose fabulous secret Mary Sue powers haven't actually awakened yet cuz she stopped the traumatic event that was supposed to do THAT FOR HER. [27:04] THAT FOR HER. OH, [ __ ] AND MISS Satoru went through a lot of deeply embarrassing phases writing this story, including a monster [ __ ] phase and an oh yeah, I totally let Sephiroth kill me phase. So, the [27:18] entire foreseeable future for that sister is just a massive minefield of increasingly deadly self-reports, most of which she doesn't even fully remember because she's a grown-ass adult now who hasn't thought about any of this [ __ ] [27:34] for over a decade. However, that minefield is also full of increasingly handsome bishonen boys and plenty of scenic spots for relaxing tea breaks between dealing with werewolves who are also babies. That's right. Plus, even if [27:51] she doesn't get to be the Mary Sue, she is still filthy rich in a world where magic powers exist, so she can't complain too much, and neither can I. I'm giving it three flaming dumpsters full of Mary Sue self-insert fics and [28:05] uncomfortably specific lore notes on monster anatomy. Speaking of monster [ __ ] though, if that sort of thing is your bag, baby, then baby, we've got an anime with your name written all over it. With You Are Love Will Make It [28:20] Through, a tender tale of star-crossed love set in an alternate history urban fantasy Japan that's only just now beginning to relax its centuries-old furry apartheid. Anthropomorphic dog boy Tsunagu Hidaka has studied his fuzzy [28:36] little tail off in hopes of one day becoming the world's first beast folk doctor, but those plans are immediately derailed on his first day in human school by both the expected anti-furry racism and some totally unexpected new [28:52] feelings for his sweet and very open-minded classmate Mari Asaka. How open-minded? This meme sums it up better than I ever could. One minute this show will be puttering along like your typical cute, fluffy shojo romance, [29:07] typical cute, fluffy shojo romance, emphasis on the fluff, the next emphasis on the fluff, the next [Music] Whoa, hey. you get a vivid reminder that the prequel to this thing was an 18+ web [29:22] manga. I mean, I've heard of heavy petting, but this is ridiculous, and also more than a little embarrassing for Tsunagu, who ends up trying to keep Mari at paws length because there's just something about her smell that makes him [29:38] unable to stop himself when he gets too big a whiff. Meanwhile, she's just over here thinking, "I mean, I didn't say stop." To be clear, this show is like stop." To be clear, this show is like 95% just pure Doki Doki shojo goodness. [29:52] Pals hanging out platonically snuggling the oversized floof balls in their class. But for the freaks out there, you know who you are, that 5% will be everything. With you Our Love Will Make It Through Gets Three Dudes in Fur Suits [30:08] on a Smoke Break Next to a Completely Normal Dumpster. Also, just to be even clearer, for a lot of people the other 95% with the giant floof petting is also going to be everything. I mean, what animal lover hasn't dreamed of sneaking [30:21] up to one of the forbidden kitties in the zoo and just burying your face in there to enjoy some bone-rattling XL purrs. Unfortunately, they have laws nature that say there's a very good chance you'll end up in the XL litter [30:36] box the next morning. But that's what we have fantasy fiction for. And now there's finally an isekai with the courage to look beyond your typical dungeons and elf tits wish fulfillment to give the people what we really want. [30:53] to give the people what we really want. [Music] Gorgeous ones I might add thanks to the talented artists at Sunrise who've [31:08] brought not just the elves and their tits, but the entire world of My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Heroes to Life in a vividly shaded art style that evokes the atmosphere of classic fantasy OVAs with modern design [31:24] sensibilities. It's a real treat for the eyes that helps to sell both the giant kitty cuddling fantasy and the more traditional power type one. traditional power type one. [Music] [31:51] been rushing a bit to get to those awesome action beats and kitty cuddling moments especially in episode 4 which despite featuring that kick-ass sword fight was an absolute mess of a story. But as of episode 5 it has finally [32:06] started slowing down to a much more comfortable pace and I'm willing to forgive a bit of initial awkwardness when an anime gives me so much of the good stuff that most other isekai leave me wanting. Not just the big kitty [32:19] thing, but also an intelligent, competent supporting cast of kids from protag's school who don't just exist to make him look cooler and smarter by comparison. And a story that's actually about all of them trying to get back [32:36] home because protag's not just some misanthropic loser with nothing else going on. There's actually a fair bit of that going around this season. Even in that school shooter-iest of fantasy subgenres, those [ __ ] things. The [32:52] Banished Court Magician Aims to Become the Strongest goes through all the typical motions of the underrated hero's journey stuck in a party overlooking his overpoweredness until they callously cast him aside one day which ultimately [33:06] only frees him to be the best Kirito he can be with a much cooler party of waifus. But it deftly swerves the genre's most idiotic tropes. Firstly, by [33:18] creating an only slightly contrived reason that his old party would have missed out on his greatness. Archaic prohibitions against commoners using swords and combat spells while fighting in parties with nobility which being a [33:33] spellblade and all didn't exactly give Alec a lot of chances to shine even though he still managed to quietly carry the prince's whole party with his non-specialty support magic. What's more, while that prince does throw the [33:47] more, while that prince does throw the expected hissy fit and rage about Alec sabotaging him after his squad starts sucking, [34:04] he eventually reflects and realizes that he, his father, and indeed their entire he, his father, and indeed their entire social class may in fact have up royally by looking down on Alec and everyone else born without a silver spoon in [34:20] their mouth. Is that potential for character growth from the arc one villain in one of these [ __ ] things? Will the wonders never [34:32] cease? More importantly, Alec himself and the whole party of old friends that he joins up with on his quest to become the strongest have a real great friend dynamic going not just with the waifus, but also a male friend who is as cool as [34:49] protag-kun. It's a party full of big egos and contrasting personalities with a penchant for giving each other [ __ ] penchant for giving each other [ __ ] lovingly, but also a deep rider-die bro [35:01] bond where they always have each other's backs. If this anime were say a Tales of game, you better believe I'd be watching every last party skit that pops up and [35:14] maybe even looking up a guide to trigger the hidden ones. Most JRPGs wish they had character writing this good. They all have distinctively creative fighting styles too even though they're all working within the same magic system and [35:29] class framework and that goes for people outside the party too who are also competent and interesting characters. And the fights themselves look REALLY [35:41] And the fights themselves look REALLY DAMN GOOD. [35:57] single best one of these [ __ ] things ever made which I mean, the bar is somewhere around the Mariana's Trench, but still I'm giving this one and Astarte's three [36:10] wastebaskets each full of all the Kleenex boxes they didn't use to constantly wank off their respective Kirito's. And then two more dumpsters full of all the Kleenex they did still go through. [36:23] Dusk Beyond the End of the World got off to an amazing start with a 10 out of 10 banger first episode that thrusts its man out of time hero right into the conflict at the heart of its lushly fascinating post-apocalyptic dystopia [36:37] all while introducing one of the most breathtakingly beautiful battle waifus in recent memory boasting mathematically perfect absolute territory and armed [36:49] literally with an even breathtakinger giant [ __ ] off laser. [37:05] the political intricacies of the setting alongside an even sexier non-battle waifu. We're talking not just Shell Dorado influenced character design here, Dorado influenced character design here, but specifically the rejected concept [37:19] art Shell who wore nothing but a poncho. Someone, please get the Pixiv artists on this series. Holy [ __ ] All of which sounds like primo shagarbaj ingredients to me, but the problem was the world building and adventure story were so [37:36] well executed I was starting to worry the trash FDA might label the whole thing art. Thankfully, PA Works came to my rescue in episode 3 by rescuing that second waifu from episode 2's cliffhanger in a few very rushed minutes [37:51] so that it could immediately jump into a multi-part storyline about protag-kun's sexy android companion who looks exactly like his dead fiance trying to make him jealous by inserting herself into a love triangle that's also a mafia succession [38:07] triangle that's also a mafia succession dispute between blood related siblings. You see that, Reggie? You [ __ ] coward. THIS SHOW ISN'T EVEN ABOUT incest mostly and it still had the balls to completely [ __ ] up its tone and [38:20] atmosphere with the real thing. Ah, who am I kidding? He's too busy redesigning Kazi to look exactly like himself so he can finally let him Shizuru to listen to me. But uh if anyone out there knows Mr. Miajima, please pass the message along [38:35] next time he comes out of his goon cave to hydrate. As for me, I'm going to show my appreciation for robot waifus battling Tommy gun toting gangsters with battling Tommy gun toting gangsters with Gundam bits. [38:53] World three golden dumpsters. Though, my colleagues in the Mother's Basement Restaurant Group's fine dining department may need to reconsider their recommendation if the show spends any more of its scant 12 episodes on this [39:07] sort of delightfully plot derailing anime [ __ ] On that note though, I do need to correct the record on some of their premature promises regarding Chitose is in the Ramune bottle which I was very let down to learn is not the [39:24] season's most beautifully animated piece of harem trash after all. In the bargain bin section of the latest ones to watch menu, we incorrectly labeled this [39:36] stunning work of art as an ultra pretentious My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU clone that swaps Hachiman out for an insufferable popular kid who loves waxing poetic about himself about as much as he loves negging all the hotties [39:51] who want to bang him. But that was tragically a clever ruse playing into the story's core theme that some of the best people you'll ever meet make the worst first impressions by literally doing that to its own audience in a [40:07] genius narrative flourish. This is the kind of bold move you can get away with in the early chapters of a light novel volume the readers already paid for but a pretty big gamble in an episodic anime that people might drop at any moment [40:23] especially one that takes a four episode test just to see that fully pay off even with production values this gorgeous that is a mighty tough sell for anyone who's not dumpster diving for ingredients like I was when I watched it [40:38] ingredients like I was when I watched it but at least I can get some value out of my own immeasurable disappointment by letting anyone who accidentally wandered missed a good one at our sister location. This is a harem anime where [40:53] it's actually believable that all these beautiful women would want protag-kun beautiful women would want protag-kun because he's just that hot nice and talented which goes out of its way to subvert the antisocial tendencies of the [41:06] genre with a large supporting cast of male friends and rivals who are just as well developed as every one of the waifus where the romantic relationships [41:18] all have established chemistry from the get-go and actually go places almost immediately. If you're suffering from harem fatigue a condition I'm [41:30] conceptually familiar with but will never experience myself Chitose is in the Ramune bottle is the perfect antidote. So perfect that I cannot in antidote. So perfect that I cannot in good conscience give it a trash rating [41:44] but luckily we romcom trash connoisseurs won't have to go without this fall because my friends little sister has it in for me is exactly the kind of navel-gazing self-important gratingly self-aware Oregairu-like slop Chitose [42:00] had me expecting with its charismatic yet unpopular male lead going around fixing mostly manic pixie dream girl classmates lives using his immeasurable talents as Japan's youngest indie game producer. For that you see is the theme [42:17] of the piece a good producer helps people make the most of their potential and of course the first people he does that for are the aforementioned friend as well as his aforementioned little sister who once fixed becomes about as [42:32] sister who once fixed becomes about as manic as pixie dream girls get. [42:54] the anime that we actually see him fix her through a very clumsily framed flashback because first the show's got to set up all the other anime [ __ ] it's got going on all of which is so wildly out of pocket I'm genuinely [43:09] baffled they're trying to sell this thing on the nonexistent appeal of [ __ ] Teemu Takagi-san over here when it's overly descriptive title could have just as easily been my rich uncle won't publish my video game unless I pretend [43:23] to date my cousin or I found out my homeroom teacher is an actual literal file so I'm blackmailing her into making art for my indie studio. [43:41] exactly enough far too much going on to ever go anywhere with any of its romcom [ __ ] thus ensuring that you'll walk away with a big old pair of emotional blue balls to go with your steadily growing sense of terror toward whatever [43:56] kind of twisted mind could come up with this insanity. At present the story's building up to a big twist where the Nisekoi cousin's going to turn out to secretly be the anonymous novelist who's been writing protag-kun's indie game [44:09] stories for him that I was able to predict from literally the first episode with my genius level who's that Pokémon skills. That said the story is built around a pretty helpful core theme of you miss every shot you don't take which [44:24] is the kind of thing that the kind of people who'd watch this kind of thing probably need to hear though there have got to be better mouthpieces for that idea than protag-kun's uncle trying to [ __ ] a waitress half his age while he's [44:39] out for dinner with his daughter. I did enjoy how he phrased it though. [44:53] characters all act like psychotic aliens and never [ __ ] shut up about how the tropes that are happening to them are just like one of their Japanese animes this is definitely another thing you can watch instead of going to therapy. My [45:07] friends little sister gets three flaming dumpsters full of the entire printed out Google Doc that will no doubt be written about this indie studio one day. Now with our final main course out of the way it's finally time to wind down with [45:21] a scrumptious dessert and this season we've got a sugary sweet magical girl we've got a sugary sweet magical girl dish that's just to die for. [45:44] What? No this is definitely a magical girl anime. You got teenagers with secret double lives power of friendship with homoerotic undertones and crazy monster of the week fights out the wazoo. [46:03] WHAT'S THAT? I FELT A SHOCK WHAT THE HELL IT'S MY HAND THAT GOT SHATTERED. YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING. Sure there's also some stuff in there about a centuries-old blood feud between shinobi [46:16] and yakuza but ninja versus gokudo is definitely a loving homage to pretty cure first and foremost. [Music] [46:38] SEE fun for the whole family. I'm giving it two trash baskets of cinnamon rolls and I'm giving you everything you ate tonight on the house as thanks for celebrating this massive milestone with us. Also we were kind of running out of [46:55] organs that you've got two of and my new friends taught me how to make way more money by harvesting your personal data. Anyway it's time to send you back so I'll see you next season and um if they ship you to the island by mistake just [47:11] didn't see anything and they'll send you right on your way. right on your way. Bye.
