[00:01] John, this is many a true nerd and welcome to a hyper drop. The latest game in that rapidly growing genre, bigger number makes brain happy. And I'm going to be honest, that is a genre that I've been reviewing with increasing suspicion [00:16] recently because the reason it's growing so rapidly is there's an awful lot of very good games in it. Vampire Survivors and Balatro in particular have spawned literally hundreds of not particularly good knock-offs. So when I heard about [00:30] Hyper Drop, which is basically a bigger number brain happy pachinko game, I went into it wearing my cynical hat. But I was wrong, okay, this one's the real deal. It's got some a real bloody style. But okay, let's just jump on in cuz this [00:45] is much easier to get your head around it if you just see it in action. If pachinko by the way, it's basically what you're seeing in front of you. A bigger into. The ball's going to bounce down to the bottom and when it gets to the [00:58] bottom, that's it. That's the end of the game. The trick being in this game, you get to modify how each individual pin behaves. So yeah, the bombs send the ball flying, sprinklers generate new balls, and four scores better if it gets [01:13] hit really bloody hard. So yeah, if I just quickly slap all these guys down here on the field for a second, we can see that in action. So yeah, I'm just going to drop a ball. There's a score at the bottom down here. Every time the [01:27] ball hits a pin, the blue number's going to go up by one. So yeah, just let's you go. Now alternatively, right, if it actually hit one over my pins over here, the special ones I set, the red number would have gone up. Cuz yeah, we just [01:42] scored what was it, 12, and we need to get to 500. So this here is not a very good layout. Let's just rewind the clock for a second here cuz what we're actually doing here when you think about it is building a machine. A slightly [01:57] chaotic machine, but a machine nonetheless. So, yeah, the sprinkler, for example, if I put that on the top, I can drop my ball straight onto that, meaning that is guaranteed to trigger. And yeah, this one's got a cool down of [02:09] 1 second. So, if it gets hit again, it can generate even more balls. It's going to spin out its water on either side to the left and right. So, naturally, that's where we're going to put the bombs. So, the water hits the bombs, it [02:22] causes them to detonate. The force, meanwhile, goes, uh, sort of, nearby to, uh, the flipping bombs. So, as a result of that, yeah, hopefully, the water will be blasted into the force meter balls, and we'll gain a lot more points. So, [02:37] yeah. This time, we drop you on you. There goes the water, the bomb it goes off, you guys go flying, the ball count goes up, you just about to the bottom. So, yeah, that's a you really basic starting [02:51] machine that works pretty nicely for generating a good number of points. And single ball, I've got five balls to clear the field if necessary. Then yes, I can now choose between tokens to spend in the shop, and perks, which is just [03:05] this game's way of saying it's special pins. So, yeah, I'm going to say it's two and two, converter, please, giving me, yes, a bigger pile of new pins I can put on the board. And yeah, all of these have various different effects. Dark [03:19] Matter, for example, if it gets hit, it summons three additional balls in a triangular ritual. So, yeah, if I put that somewhere, and this thing gets hit, I know for certain it's going to trigger whatever is directly beneath it. And [03:33] also, in general, it's spawning a more balls. So, I'm going to put you right in the center, and then, yeah, pockets can just a gather balls and release them with a bigger score attached to them. Golden ball becomes golden doubles the [03:46] regular supply of all perks activated, or bubbles, which pop and score when a That just sounds fun. So, I'm just going to put some bubbles onto the field just randomly going everywhere. Lovely. So, that was our 500 points right there. But [04:01] yes, naturally, the score goes up in a hurry. So, now we've got to get 2,500. But I get to nip into the store while I'm passing by. Cuz yeah, I could buy >> [music] >> Or alternatively, yeah, I could start [04:16] improving my balls. Cuz right now these are just a basic balls. Medium-sized balls with a well-balanced bounce. However, I could spend some of my money on a different flipping balls. Say for example, a much bigger ball that [04:31] therefore hits a many, many cocking pins. So, yeah, I'm going to buy that and swap out my first ball out for that immediately. And I can also set the interior of my ball. So, yeah, you can mix any exterior with any interior to [04:45] come up with, you know, balls with a very unique, different behaviors. On this occasion, I quite like the idea of, yes, a giant ball with a bonus of bounciness. So, yes, that is now a big, very bouncy [04:58] ball. That's what I spent all my points on. Let's crack on. Because now I've got my new-look board with new pins on it and also a big old pile of bubbles for some reason. So, right. Drop you down. There you are bouncing around a lot, my [05:13] friend. That is definitely true. And yeah, we've got loads of water things yeah, we've got loads of water things are floating around, too. So far, nice and simple. But yeah, the score target is going to rise exponentially. Sooner [05:25] or later, this is a going to cost any more. So, once again, split the points two and two. Get me two perks. And ooh, entropy. I like entropy. By the way, I've been playing this demo a lot. Like this has [05:38] eaten many hours of my life over the last couple of days. So, right. This one, when it gets hit, rolls a random cocking number and then spawns balls equal to that number. Which is slightly ridiculous, yes. The downside being it's [05:55] got a very bloody long cool down on it. After it's activated, it can't be After it's activated, it can't be activated again for 20 seconds. But 100% I'm going to be putting yeah, entropy right here in the center because this is [06:09] what we ultimately want. We want a machine that generates more balls at the However, you may have noticed the balls get down to the bottom they fall out of the machine and we've got to fix that at some point. But you know, finding ways [06:22] to get balls to get to the bottom back up to the top again and various ways we can do that. Like one would be attract beam. Attracts any passing ball and toss So that does sound pretty tempting, yes. So [06:38] rolling down the right of the machine, we will now blast them back up to the top and center if we can. Beautiful. So yeah, now we need 8,000 points. And on top of that [06:52] right. Because this is like, you know, a special boss event or whatnot. I will get a special perk if I win. However, only eight balls are allowed at one time. Extra balls just explode and score plus one to my red multiplier. [07:07] Before that though, yeah, we get to do a little bit more over here. So okay, eight flipping coins. What do I want to buy here? Oh, this will do. Mirror image with a reduced cool down. So yeah, ball hits this and [07:23] it generates two reflections which will become a real full balls within a certain number of hits. So [music] yeah, I'll have that. That could go pretty much right up at the top. That's a okay. So yeah, you just go up there, buddy. I [07:37] don't love these balls, however. Do I like yeah, any of you guys? Blaster. Every third peg hit splits the ball into smaller balls, max of two. [07:50] ball for now, and we'll swap out that basic ball for something better later. But for the time being, yeah. All we want to do really is probably drop you here, and oh, that's that's not that's not working. I mean, you have [08:04] multiplied, that's true. But that's fine. If you make a mistake, you've got a certain number of redrops, okay, to redo one ball. So, maybe just put you here in the center, and that will probably work a little bit better. [08:19] Yes, now we're spawning more balls, etc., etc. So, that was more like, yeah, 139 * 16. Only 2,000 versus the 8,000 we need. Probably cuz, yeah, we can't spawn that many balls. [08:34] I could make this dark matter immediately spawn another dark matter. That might work. So, yeah, drop you right there, buddy. That will spawn many, many, many balls over here. Now, how many balls do we have in play? I [08:50] mean, we've got some, but right. So, once again, that's going to be about 3,000 now. We've got a duplicator. Ooh, a straight-up duplicator. Duplicates the ball, including the modifier. [09:04] Yeah, put that right up top, please. Right up top. And that's only got a cool down of two. That's very generous, actually. So, I've used my good balls, but yeah, just drop you right there, generate more balls, [09:17] and become more balls thanks to the mirror images. Oh, that was That was bad. That's That's not been going well. Continue operation, yes, [09:29] dark it's dark it's dark, please. So, just drop that into there. There you go, the water balls. You guys get blasted up top as well, please. Yeah, the inability to spawn a lots of balls that is causing me trouble. [09:43] Yeah, one more bounce up, please. Let's just get to yeah, balls over here blasted into you to set off the trio of dark matters. So, this is not going to spectacularly well in a way. But there we go, purple [09:57] purple spawning even more cooking a purple and again, not great. But it'll do. I passed the boss, that's [10:09] a-okay. May also get a chaos blessing. Each round a random basic peg gains a random perk. Well, obviously we're going in for Oh, and speak of the devil, right, [10:23] there's another bigger ball right here, which I will insert right now. So, yeah, to split into a smaller balls automatically. And I'll take gasser. For every three hits launching the ball upwards cuz yeah, keeping the ball up in [10:37] probably should have bought the duplicates to be honest, but okay. We are where we are. We've now got mega bouncy ball. Drop you right on the duplicator, please. And now, yeah, purple triggers purple triggers purple. [10:51] That's all absolutely fine. You're bouncing around like a nobody's business. Excellent. So, the blue number is going up in a bloody hurry. 10,000 20,000. Another spring plop. Might be [11:05] start thinking about the bottom. The parachute gives ball, would you believe, a parachute. So, when it hits the bottom, it then floats back up to the top. Now, that's a really bloody important because on its way back up to [11:18] the top, it might trigger more balls to exist. [music] self-sustaining machine. We generate balls up top, the balls score points in the middle, they get down to the bottom, and then basically go back up top to [11:31] generate more balls and going up forwards. So, okay, this time we have more balls. So, right, that's a lot of bloody balls. Some of you, please hit the Yep, there we go. Some of you uh hit the flipping uh parachute though. Kind [11:46] of bad luck there on the way back up. Yeah, they kind of just went off to the left. But, there we go. More balls are going down than going up back up again. 12,000 is fine, so we have passed. I'll take Yeah, one perk and two tokens to [12:03] improve the balls, please. So, more parachutes or more dark matter. I matter. Basically, yeah, the moment this gets hit, two balls you get triggered, two balls you get triggered, two balls you trigger you even more balls. So, [12:18] balls going in every direction. Also, there's an extra bomb here and a battery. So, that gets hit Yeah, everything around it gives more multiplier than it would do otherwise. I'm going to say put another parachute [12:32] down bottom. If I could just line up the entirety of the bottom with a parachutes, that would be a okay. We're up to 70 cooking a thousand at this point. Fascinating. So, okay. [12:45] So, okay. I don't love it Yeah, triangle or egg. Teleporter is kind of cool though. Teleports ball to a random pack. A good way of, you know, taking a ball that's about to leave the field and making it [12:58] go back up top instead. Especially given Yeah, the big ball is very likely to Yeah, the big ball is very likely to actually hit that. buy the teleporter and we're going to put that to just a down bottom. So, [13:13] yeah, hopefully that'll send balls back up top. For the time being Yeah, just drop you right there. I don't really want you being off to the right to be honest. Just hit the cooking. There we go. You have hit the flipping Oh, oh, [13:25] now we're getting somewhere. Now the balls are multiplying and picking up parachutes en masse. So, yeah. They go down bottom, then they come up top, and ideally reproduce. And gosh darn it, we didn't actually hit the duplicator [13:38] there. I need more duplicators up top. This one, however, is sexay. The overcharger. Creates a massive ball storm with only a 10-second cool down. That's not bad, but it needs a battery that's been activated to work. I've got [13:52] a random battery right here. Yeah, let's put you right here in the center, buddy. All right. We're at 65,000 right now, which is a pretty good start. Drop you right there to duplicate you, [14:04] then duplicate you some more, AND THEN OH, THERE we go. Here come additional balls. Them spiky balls are brand new. They're multiplying as well. They're also picking up a parachute. So, right, up you go. On your way up, please [14:18] activate some more. There we go. He's just spawned a new ball that's now going back down again. Also teleporting and reproducing. He's going to pick up more parachutes, and gosh darn it, they all missed the parachutes. Bad luck, but [14:31] still 68,000. So, we're doing a fine. I'm going to say, yeah, we've got plenty of money for now, so take two perks and only one coin. And a force field. If that gets hit repeatedly and breaks [14:44] open, then yeah, whacking it massively increases the red multiplier. That might be a good thing to have right about yeah, here. Dead in the center. >> Then the rockets. So, yeah, hit that, and that launches a green ball upwards [14:59] that bursts into a fireball over more balls, basically. So, yeah. Having that in a position, say, here, where that will uh hit entropy in case entropy is ready to go. [15:12] That's potentially interesting. So, right, we've now got magnetized and 125,000 to hit. So, the balls gravitate to a revolving magnet that I've got no control over except hit the switch to stop its movement. [15:27] so I didn't notice that because you know I didn't read the instructions previously. Apparently there's a switch I can use to stop the magnets. So okay. We've got a banana ball which is not [15:40] shaped and may spawn oh more bananas over time. You're a basic that can launch it upwards so yeah, keeping a banana launching upwards over and over again it stays in play [15:52] longer so it can produce more balls. That's interesting. Oh. Sorry, did you just say you a multi-pack of a teleporters? I think we'll just be having yes, a line of teleporters down bottom here. [16:08] What's the cool down on a teleporter? I don't know but that's too hilarious not don't know but that's too hilarious not to take. So okay, another cluster. So yeah, the ball can split into smaller balls. We'll put that on the yeah, [16:20] fourth basic. Move forward. So yeah, there's now a defensive line of seconds but I think it does get exponentially longer as it gets hit over and over again. So yeah, all we need to do is oh. [16:36] Right, that'll be the switch. The thing with the word on written on it. So yeah, I want that to be going upwards in a perfect world. Just wait for the right perfect world. Just wait for the right moment to drop the ball onto you [16:49] when you're like in our up top [music] to pull the balls upwards. Oh here we and go. Right, you have now been turned off. do much but hopefully we can teleport it back somewhere safe, right? Just get a [17:04] little bit inside, get a bit inside. There we go. You teleport around. The teleporters are doing their job, damage. More balls come in including a random More balls come in including a random triangles. Just yeah, to the flipping a [17:17] a parachute. Keep going up. We've got two up top still. There's the nuclear reactor getting hit over and over again for massive increases in at the red multiplier and this is it. This is the machine. The machine is now working. [17:30] Because you guys are just going to keep ideally going up and up and up teleporting a further upwards. As you go further upwards and yeah, reproduce reproduced up top that. So more come down. The red multiplier gets hit [17:44] flipping a lot. You get teleported away, but yeah, the teleport cool down is getting long at this point. You're going up with a flipping or hang on. Hang on. You're going in that direction. Ideally spawn some more purple balls and [17:59] spawn some more purple balls and 2,000 * 361. Oh, yeah. That'll flipping do. That will definitely flipping do. So safety. Oh, yeah. The blue multiplier just goes up faster and faster. Yeah, [18:12] obviously we're not doing a safety. Right, I've got plenty of coins. So yeah, split perks to coins again. Don't hit the bubbles. The bubbles are kind of fun though. Oh. A timer. [18:26] That starts timing when it gets hit and keeps scoring until the ball exits. going to be honest, I really love the background. Like this game reminds me a [18:38] lot of a Tetris Effect. The soundtrack is lovely. There's just lots of cool stuff happening in the background. It's just a very relaxing game as a result of that. So Okay. [18:50] Over here a lot of stuff is happening. So we're going to put a timer round and a duplicator. Yeah. Put another duplicator up there. So there's a duplicator on both sides. Ideally I want nothing but duplicators [19:05] up top and nothing but yeah, parachutes and teleporters down bottom. That's what we really want. So, 300K now. That's more bombs and bloody finally about time you showed up. Yeah, multi. [19:20] Actually splits into a three balls immediately. So, okay, what else can we do with you? After five hits, you return to the top. After five hits, you return to the top. You can only do it twice. [19:37] The grinder plus a five to the red multiplier every three seconds you stay in play. I mean, the multi is likely to stay in play longer because there's like, you know, several of them or whatever. So, [19:53] that's pretty good. And then, yeah, leave your other two points for the time being and drop you right in the center here to ideally hit There we go. Hit all the multipliers. Excellent. You're just bouncing around [20:06] like a crazy right now to come up more flipping balls from this thing right here. And Oh, I'm going to be honest. You have Yeah, fallen out of the field faster than I was anticipating. Do you mind Yeah, just pushing you over [20:20] there? You get teleported up. Come on. Somebody activate something that's going to generate more balls, please. There's a few more balls. The purples generate 10 million balls. And there we go. The purples just saved us. One of those [20:32] little purple balls hit a more important peg generating even more flipping score. Did nobody hit the bloody I think nobody hit the bloody timer at any point. But that's fine. So, right, at this point, yeah, we're kind of running out of stuff [20:47] to buy in the store. So, two and two a straight-up multiplier. If this gets hit, then, yeah, the multiply goes up. Okay. We'll put you up top in a busy position. [21:02] well. Right in the center. This should be the busy point where we wanting 10 million balls. That's fine. So, okay. Now, 500,000. So, ideally I need Yeah, there's a nice big star here. [21:18] replaced with a star. So, we're now okay. Oh my goodness, a multi-pack of duplicators. That's a corking bargain. That's a bargain right there. So, we'll put one over here and one over here as [21:31] well. So, right. Right, right, right, right, right. That little corker do. And then, reverse time. Sends them all back where it was 2 seconds ago. That's a good alternative to Yeah. The teleporter. And then again, if I put [21:46] that like here, there might be a bunch of balls that were like previously up here. Right in the busy center of the world. Right in the busy center of the world. So, [21:59] Cuz then, balls that right at the start and get tossed off to the side, they'll just be teleported back to the center. So, I think that's a good spot for you. So, okay. 500,000, drop you right in here. Need you to hit No, go over to the [22:13] So, eventually get to the duplicators. The multiplier is multiplying. We're nearly into Yes, the flipping and there we go. There's some corking parachutes. So, [22:27] upward. I'm pretty sure the parachute guy just Yep, generated some more bouncy balls. And now, we just want them to self-sustain forever. The ones down bottom are going back up. The ones up top are just multiplying. Eventually, [22:42] won't be able to keep doing this, but it kind of doesn't matter because Oh, yeah. On your way back up, you're going to hit like even more duplicators, There we go. More duplicators. So, one of you managed to Gosh darn it. That's [22:58] still 1 and 1/2 a million points, though. So, I'm pretty happy with that, all things considered. Split it two and two. two. Updraft. Oh, updraft is interesting. [23:10] At that point, we just push balls upwards. That feels like a good thing if I say over here, just pushing them back towards the center. And another force field No, another teleporter. We've now [23:23] got a complete line of teleporters. That is sexy. I would not mind more flipping parachutes, but I don't get more parachutes. So, right. [23:35] got? What else have we got? Another multi. A multi is interesting. I'm going to replace Yeah, this big with the multi, cuz then that's multi with cluster. So, it splits, and then the [23:51] ones that split also splits. So, honestly, I think Yeah, that kind of works. And then Yeah, we've got a bunch of forces. just a multi pack, so therefore, it's nice easy flipping red score. So, [24:06] honestly, yeah, just fill up the top of the machine here, and that's it. That's all we can do. We do, however, have a ghost on the field, who disables a whole bunch of pins. So, right. [24:20] You go right here, buddy. Start duplicating. And there we go. Please duplicate. More balls come in as a result of Yes, teleported back up top. Some of you get [24:33] flipping Yeah, taken up top by the parachute. So, okay. This is a fine start. At this point, I think we've done it. I think we have built a machine. A machine that reproduces up top and saves [24:46] down bottom, with plenty in the middle to keep more small balls entering the No. Some of them are flying out literally out of the top, which is unfortunate. So, okay, we're down to our last green. [24:59] But, it doesn't matter cuz that last green is now cooking 17 greens. Because, why wouldn't it be? They just teleported back up top. They are flipping Yeah, using parachutes to get up top, too. Oh, yeah. Oh, flipping yeah. Cuz yes, [25:15] while this looks chaotic and random, it is actually a machine I have built. It's doing what I want it to, just in a slightly chaotic nonsense fashion. But, you know, I very much built it to do the thing it's doing. That's what you're [25:27] Pachinko, you're building a chaos machine. And I quite bloody like it. So, right. All we need to do is just keep this running it forever. And I think [25:39] we're off to a very, very good start here. Which I mean, yeah, we're just going to win in a single ball. Because, why wouldn't we win in a single ball? Oh, yeah. Here come more flipping balls, too. Just keep flipping multiplying. [25:53] generate more balls in just a second. There we go. I believe that is a wave number four of balls coming in from the top. There's also just a spiky balls that floating around, too. And there we go. I think we [26:07] are almost Never mind, wave number five comes in. I like this game. Like this game a lot. Cuz it's not just turned into absolute not actually control anymore. But, you know, as I say, it's actually a machine [26:22] that I have built to do a specific thing, and it's doing that thing. It's just delightful to watch it happening. It's like the board game Mousetrap. But, you know, with music and a nice light show and whatnot. However, I think we [26:34] show and whatnot. However, I think we might have finally be coming to No, the last one is rising up. And yeah, that was the end. was the end. Nine cooking million. [26:47] I'll take 9 million. 9 million's pretty damn solid. Thank you very much, game. I appreciate that. And that gets me a spectacular spectacular S rank. Oh, yeah. That machine works. [27:00] Tragically, however, I cannot take all my machine building skills into yes, a higher difficulty challenge for the simple reason this is just a demo. This understand it, it's not even going to be out this year. However, it being a demo, [27:15] you can play this yourself all right now for free. Including a whole bunch of different stunts so you can play around with different, you know, ways of playing the game. I went for demolitions because obviously. But yeah, there's [27:29] keepie uppie, which is a focused on a just keeping balls a circling right from the get-go. Wizard, which does all sorts of weird stuff manipulating a time and whatnot. Or island, more about yes, just a spawning of balls on the regular using [27:43] a coconut and just a gently pushing them upwards with updrafts and using bridges to guide them in the right direction, etc., etc. So, yeah. There's a lot of different ways you can try and play this game. In general though, yeah, I've just [27:56] had a really bloody nice time playing this. And as I say, I've been playing this for hours over the last day or so. It's really bloody compelling. It looks great. It's got a fantastic soundtrack. And just in general, I really love the [28:09] idea of a building a machine out of chaos of physics parts that in the end does what you want it to do while playing a nice tune to you and showing you a fireworks display. Just yeah, I like this. Well worth a look. See link [28:23] to the demo in the description below. And when it comes out next year, we may well be seeing this again. So, keep your eyes open and we shall flipping see. But in the meantime, I've been John. This has been many a true nerds. And this has [28:37] been the delightful Hyper Drop. Thank you very much and goodbye. Captain John's awesome at that Wait, hang on. That was supposed [28:49] to be a pirate pun, but actually comes across more as an ass pun, doesn't it? park. Let's not do that, actually. There we are, counting John's non-sexual pirate adventure. That's That's better. Just to make sure people understand.
