## Summary

This video is a masterclass on weight loss drugs, specifically GLP-1 medications like semaglutide. The speaker, a health expert, aims to provide a comprehensive overview of how these drugs work, their side effects, and the importance of lifestyle changes. She emphasizes that while these drugs can be effective, they come with significant risks, including muscle and bone loss, and that natural methods like diet and fasting can also boost the body's own GLP-1 production.

### Key Points

- **High Usage Among Women 50-64** [00:17] — One in five women aged 50-64 (20%) have used a GLP-1 medication, the highest rate of any age or sex group in the country.
- **Ultra-Processed Foods Suppress Natural GLP-1** [01:29] — Diets high in ultra-processed foods (refined flours, sugars, toxic oils like canola and vegetable oil) suppress the release of the body's natural GLP-1 hormone, which is produced by gut microbes. This leads to blood sugar rollercoasters and increased food noise.
- **Protein and Fiber Deficiencies** [03:17] — Most diets are low in protein and fiber, the two nutrients needed for natural GLP-1 production. Science recommends 1g of protein per pound of ideal body weight, 30g of protein at meals, and 30g of fiber daily.
- **Weight Loss Includes Muscle and Bone Loss** [05:04] — Weight loss on these drugs is not just fat. A semaglutide trial of 140 people showed 15% body weight loss over 68 weeks, with 20% fat loss but 10% lean body mass loss. Additionally, a study of 146,000 people found a 29% higher chance of developing osteoporosis in GLP-1 users.
- **Misconception: Drugs Are Risk-Free** [08:11] — All drugs have side effects. Box warnings mention thyroid tumors in animal studies. Digestive effects like nausea and constipation are common due to slowed gastric emptying. There are over 3,800 lawsuits filed in federal court regarding severe stomach issues.
- **Misconception: Everyone Should Be On Them** [11:00] — These drugs were made for people who are massively overweight, not for 5-10 lb loss. Celebrity endorsements (Oprah, Serena Williams, Demi Moore) don't mean it's right for everyone.
- **Misconception: Nutrition Doesn't Matter** [11:50] — Nutrition is crucial when on these drugs. Dr. Lee Aaron Caneli uses them as a head start for 90 days with a strict diet. Changing diet while on the drugs is essential for success.
- **Natural Weight Loss Can Be Fast** [13:09] — The speaker disagrees that natural weight loss is slower. She claims that with proper diet, you can lose weight quickly without losing muscle or bone. The CDC recommends 1-2 lb per week for healthy, lasting weight loss.
- **Reset Academy Results** [14:20] — In her membership group, they average 5.8 lb loss in 2 weeks using fasting, eating, and walking, which is in the ballpark of the CDC recommendation.
- **Step 1: Protein and Fiber First** [15:36] — Eating protein and fiber before carbs blunts blood sugar spikes and supports natural GLP-1 release. Examples: eggs with microgreens, Greek yogurt with berries, but skip carbs until after.
- **Step 2: Feed Your GLP-1 Factory** [16:49] — Eat oats, barley, cooked potato and rice, prebiotic vegetables (onions, garlic, leeks), and drizzle with olive oil. Snack on raw nuts. Include soluble fibers like dextran (green bananas, cooked and cooled potatoes) and konjac (shirataki noodles, konjac rice).
- **Step 3: Add Fermented Foods** [19:40] — Fermented foods like kimchi, sauerkraut, kefir, and yogurt multiply gut bacteria that produce GLP-1. A 2026 trial in Gut Microbes showed that increasing Akkermansia improved insulin sensitivity by 26.3%.
- **Step 4: Build Muscle** [21:14] — Muscle stores glucose, so building muscle helps prevent fat storage. Resistance training is most effective. Use resistance bands, TRX, push-ups, and weighted movements.
- **Step 5: Strategic Fasting** [22:15] — Fasting naturally lowers insulin and improves sensitivity. Start with 13-15 hours of fasting, e.g., pushing breakfast back an hour. A 2025 pilot study in the Journal of Nutrients showed intermittent fasting with interval training beat a low-calorie diet with the same exercise.
- **Five Action Steps** [24:09] — 1. Flip meal order: fiber, protein, fat, then carbs. 2. Add one fermentable fiber food (miracle noodles, konjac rice). 3. Become a fan of fermented foods (kimchi, sauerkraut). 4. Start resistance training (e.g., 20 push-ups). 5. Start fasting.

### Conclusion

The video emphasizes that while GLP-1 drugs can be effective, they come with significant risks like muscle and bone loss. The speaker advocates for lifestyle changes—diet, fermented foods, resistance training, and fasting—to naturally boost GLP-1 production and achieve sustainable weight loss without the side effects.

is [music] grabbing or jumping on to a new weight loss drug. Whether it's a new >> [music] >> walked into your doctor's office and was handed a prescription. I think we need to start looking at these drugs from a
wider lens. [music] And right now what they're showing is that women age 50 to they're showing is that women age 50 to 64, that's one in five [music] of us, 20% of us, have used a GLP-1 medication. We are the
highest use rate of [music] any age or sex group in the country. And what is [music] challenging is we are not presented with enough information as to who should go on these drugs, what kind of lifestyle [music]
should you have with these drugs, what kind of side effects are associated with these drugs, and [music] more importantly, is are these drugs right So in this video, I want to clear that all that up. This is a masterclass
on weight [music] loss drugs, and my hope is by the end of this video, you will have a [music] clear idea of what using these drugs might look like, and if you are even if these drugs are even meant for you. So,
>> [music] >> let's dive in. work, and I want to talk about what's missing.
and I want to talk about what's missing. So, the first thing that we know is that blood sugar rollercoasters blunt your natural hunger signals. So, when you are eating a diet that is really high in ultra-processed foods,
these are your refined flours and your refined sugars. These are your toxic oils, like canola oil and vegetable oil. You like canola oil and vegetable oil. You are actually suppressing the release of
are actually suppressing the release of your G own natural GLP-1 hormone that your body actually makes. The hormone is actually made in the little microbes in your gut. And when you take care of those
microbes, they make the hormone. And when you don't take care of those microbes, they don't make the hormone. And this ultra-processed food diet, what it's doing is it's putting you on a roller coaster of blood
sugar. And you are are are training your body to start to need food every couple of hours. I think it's really interesting work we're talking about this food noise because food noise is not a natural
state of the human body. There is something you did in your environment, this is not a blame game, that actually changed these microbes' ability to give changed these microbes' ability to give you the appetite suppressant we now know
as GLP-1 hormone. And the more we dip into the refined foods and the toxic oils and the refined sugars, the more we destroy our own natural production. Now, the second thing I want you to know
Now, the second thing I want you to know is that most diets are low in the exact two nutrients you need to make your own GLP-1 production. So, and those two nutrients are protein and fiber.
I think it's really interesting that over the last couple of years there's been a real um resurgence of protein love. Uh books are written on it, influencers have been talking about it, and it helped us all
realize that we're not eating enough protein. 1 g of protein for every pound of ideal body weight is what the science says. 30 g of protein at your meals, especially the first meal, is what the
science is recommending. So, if you are considering going on to I want you to ask yourself is what do you are you getting enough protein? Because most people are not.
The second nutrient that I will that is forcing the body to be deficient in this forcing the body to be deficient in this magical appetite suppressant is fiber. And the research is showing 30 g of fiber a day is what we need. So, if you
haven't counted your protein or your fiber, you may be falling into the category of you're on a diet that actually isn't allowing these microbes to make your own GLP-1. You mix that with ultra-processed foods,
and we have a massive hunger problem. We have a massive metabolic problem. Okay, number three, and this is a big one that I'm going to keep bringing forward to I'm going to keep bringing forward to you is that when you go on these drugs,
the fat loss that you see, the the number on the scale, let's put it that way. The number on the scale isn't just fat. And this is a major challenge.
And this is a major challenge. Because what we are now finding is that when you lose weight on these drugs, a large part of that comes from muscle. So, there was a semaglutide trial. Semaglutide is one of these weight loss
drugs. It looked at 140 people. It scanned these people, and they found scanned these people, and they found that these participants had lost 15% of that these participants had lost 15% of their body weight over a 68-week
scenario. The total fat mass that they lost was 20% but the lean body mass, the muscle, dropped was 10%. For me, this is one of the major reasons
you want to try lifestyle first because you are going to lose muscle when you go on these drugs and if you make a decision to get off of these drugs, what
it is going to take you a significant amount of time to bring that muscle amount of time to bring that muscle back. Muscle is hard to build and to me, that we have. But the other piece that we're now
knowing about these drugs is that you're also losing bone. So when you see all the skinny celebrities that are out there, what you're seeing, especially in that Ozempic face, is you're seeing a loss of
muscle and you can see it because they're they're just so skinny that there is bone loss that is going on as well. This is a major problem for women well. This is a major problem for women who are going through menopause because
you may already be at risk of osteoporosis because of a decline in So there's some early data that was recently presented at a 26 orthopedic
surgeons meeting and they looked at records of 146,000 with diabetes and obesity and that they found that people who go on the GLP-1 drugs have a 29%
higher chance of developing osteoporosis. So the next time you hear your friend say, I went on these drugs, say, I went on these drugs, um and I lost 40 lb, 50 lb, 100 lb,
I want you to convert that into your brain and realize that it's fat, it's muscle, and it's bone. And that is not a natural way to lose weight. And again, once you get off of these drugs, you're going to need to figure out how to bring
muscle and bone back. Now, some misconceptions about these drugs that I really want to lay out for you. One is there tends to be this sort of feeling right now that these drugs are risk-free.
There is no drug on the planet that doesn't come with a side effect. Just think of the commercials you're seeing where we know they have to put at the end of the commercial, they have to tell you all the side effects. A recent
piece of information that I learned about that made me so sad is these drug companies now know that the commercials, you have to put the side effects on, but they can pay health influencers to convince you to get on the drugs, and
that health influencer doesn't need to tell you what those side effects are. So, I'm going to tell you. I am not paid by Big Pharma. In fact, I probably make Big Pharma make a little less money so um by helping you empower yourself. So,
here's the misconception number one. That these drugs are basically risk-free. Not the case. If you are on these drugs, go look at the box warning. these drugs, go look at the box warning. The box warning says they saw thyroid
tumors in animal studies. You read it for yourself if you are on on the box if you if you have the box at home, there is some serious worry about thyroid challenges. Um personally, I think this is largely
because your thyroid needs enough calories to work right. And many of you, when you go on these drugs, you're not getting the appropriate amount of calories to allow the thyroid to do what it needs to do.
So, the thyroid ultimately can have problems, and the box says so. Second thing that we is well known is the digestive effects, nausea, constipation. This is because these drugs are made to slow gastric empty
emptying. And when they slow gastric emptying down, it creates that nausea. I also recently read an article that they're concerned about people taking these medication other medications while on
GLP-1s because that medication is going to sit in your gut longer, and it's going to take more time for that medication to break down. They do not know how these GLP-1s match with other other
medications, and one of the challenges is because of this slow gastric emptying. So, in mid-2026, which is right about now, there are more than 3,800 lawsuits that have been filed in a
federal court, most for against these drugs, mostly talking about severe stomach and digestive situations. So, make sure you understand and talk to
So, make sure you understand and talk to your doctor about these considerations. Okay, misconception number two is that everyone should be on these. These drugs were made for people who are massively overweight. They were not made for 5 to
10-lb loss, and that is how we are now using them. So, when you talk to your doctor, make sure you understand if it's right for you because not everyone should be on it. Just because Oprah got a result with
it and Serena Williams got a result with it and Demi Moore got a result with it doesn't mean it's right for you. Misconception number three. That if you're on one, nutrition doesn't matter. This is also one of the worst mindsets
we could take with these drugs. Because a way to use these drugs successfully would be to go on them and change your diet. I did an interview with Dr. Lee Aaron Caneli. Uh you can find it here on
my YouTube channel. In fact, I'll have my team link it right up here. Where we talk about how she uses them as a longevity doctor and she works with cancer patients. She said to me she takes somebody who has a really high
takes somebody who has a really high hemoglobin A1C and is morbidly obese and she says, "I'm going to give you a head start. I'm going to put you on this this drug for 90 days. She puts them on at a low dose and here's the diet you're
going to follow. If you are not changing your diet while you're on these drugs, I'm going to encourage you to go and look for the here. I've done a lot of videos on my channel here about it. But nutrition
matters when you're on these drugs. It is not a free pass. Misconception number four that I think I really want to bring out is that there's a lot of people who are saying you can lose weight just as fast on naturally
and you don't need these drugs. That I I actually disagree with that. I'm a huge fan of natural health and um you will lose weight fast. You'll lose muscle. We just talked about that and it
The question and it'll come off quicker than dieting. I believe if you change the way you eat, which I'll teach you here in a moment, you can get the same quick. But, it will be lasting, and you won't
lose muscle, and you won't lose bone. So, I want to be very transparent about But, what I want you to understand is there is an appropriate amount of weight loss that is healthy for the body. And just this year, the CDC came out and
just this year, the CDC came out and said that healthy, lasting pace of said that healthy, lasting pace of weight loss is about 1 to 2 lb a week. And that losing 10% of your overall body weight over a significant period of
time, not a quick period of time, will improve blood pressure, blood sugar, and improve blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol. Slow, natural weight is best. Now, I've been testing these drugs
against fasting and against eating in a way to increase GLP-1s. And we do a a 2-week experience in my membership group called the Reset Academy, and we are averaging 5.8 lb in 2 weeks using fasting and eating
lb in 2 weeks using fasting and eating and walking to get a weight loss result. That's even a little quicker than this 1 to 2 lb a week, but it's in the ballpark, and it's better. Losing 10 lb a week is not great. So, there there's
the big thing you need to know. Now, how do you make your own GLP-1, which I will tell you when I was in clinical practice, I would always ask my patients, let's try lifestyle first, and
if lifestyle doesn't work, then go on medication of any kind. So, I'm going to I still think that's very cautious and sane advice. If you are in a metabolic mess, and your blood pressure is in and you're at a
risk for a heart attack, then you may need to go on to these drugs first. But for those of you that just want to drop 30, 40, 50 lb, 10 lb, your hemoglobin A1C um is not over six, your blood pressure isn't high, your cholesterol
isn't high, I'm going to recommend that you try these steps. Step number one. When you put a meal together, put protein and fiber together. The research
protein and fiber together. The research is showing that eating protein and fiber before your carbs blunts a blood sugar spike after the meal. And it supports your gut's own natural release of GLP-1, the same signals that
the drugs are giving giving you. This can look like eggs and I put some microgreens, maybe some tomatoes. I do that for breakfast. It can look like Greek yogurt with some berries, um but you're skipping the carbs, the toast
until you eat that first. You might look at your at your lunch and your dinner and you eat protein and fiber first. Protein and fiber first. Keep eating
protein and fiber first in every single meal and you will rehab the microbes that make this magical appetite suppressant hormone. Step number two. I want you to think about again feeding
I want you to think about again feeding your own GLP-1 factory. So, your own GLP-1 factory. So, ask yourself, am I feeding my microbes every single day? Here's what that looks like. Here's a checklist for you. This
is where you're eating oats, you're eating barley, you're doing the cooked potato and rice scenario. Um this is prebiotic vegetables like onions and garlics and leeks and Jerusalem artichokes. This is drizzling your
protein and your fiber with fats like olive oil and avocado oil. Maybe you snack on some raw nuts that are that um still have enzymes and probiotics in it.
There are so many yummy foods that will start to be able to feed these bacteria Now, I want to talk about fiber for a interesting study that was done this year in the Frontiers in Endocrinology.
It was a meta-analysis. So, it looked at over 52 studies looking at a thousand people and there were some standout soluble fibers that you should know about that you're probably not eating. One is a fiber called dextran
and the other one is called konjac. And both of these actually will increase GLP-1 more than anything. Now, I'm sure you're curious, what are those? Cuz I was as I looked into this. So, konjac or konjac is a fiber that you
will find in shirataki noodles. You know those miracle noodles? just probably haven't looked for them. But those miracle noodles have this konjac fiber in it that helps is one of the greatest versions of fiber that will
the greatest versions of fiber that will make GLP-1s. You can get konjac rice. make GLP-1s. You can get konjac rice. Um there are konjac jelly snacks um and there are is also some powder some konjac powder. So, go find some konjac.
You're going to have to do some It's k o n j a c. Now, dextran is found in a lot of supplements. It's found in probiotics. I like to give you all food advice. And so, the closest thing to getting dextran
are green bananas. Remember the green banana scenario we talked about long time ago? And then these cooked and cooled potatoes. You cook potatoes, you warm them up, you cook them, and then you cool them down really quickly, and
they give you a really nice resistant starch that you can that will help to create the GLP-1 microbes. Step number three, you can see there's a theme here. We want to add in more fermented foods.
So, this is your kimchi. This is your sauerkraut. When you add fermented foods in, you start to multiply the bacteria in your gut that will actually help you make this hormone that people are spending thousands of dollars every year
on to be able to buy. And there is easy ways to do this. This is plain kefir yogurt. This is sauerkraut. This is kimchi. This is all kinds of yogurt. This is rotating your different foods like veggies and
different foods like veggies and legumes, um even whole grains like like uh sour you know, the sourdough bread. I did a great video on sourdough bread. These fermented when you ferment these vegetables and these grains, you are
actually supporting a key bacteria called Akkermansia. called Akkermansia. And there was a 26 trial in gut microbes And there was a 26 trial in gut microbes that looked at 140 people with adults
with metabolic syndrome. And in this study, when people brought in and ate in a way that got them more Akkermansia, they found that their insulin they found that their insulin sensitivity improved by 26.3%.
have to hop on these medications right away. Step number four is to move your away. Step number four is to move your body and build yourself more muscle. Muscle is where your body will store glucose. So, everything I've given you
up until this point has been about stopping the food noise and getting more GLP-1 production, but if you can build more muscle, you are creating pantries for glucose to go into. And if you don't have enough resources
for glucose to get shuttled into, it will be shuttled as fat. So, make sure you are doing strength training. The research shows that it's resistance training that is the most successful at
building muscle. Get yourself some resistant bands. TRX is one of the ones that I use. I don't have any affiliation with them. I just love their product. Um, you start doing some push-ups, um, and and weighted body movements so that
you are building muscle quicker through resistance training. Step number five, my favorite, strategic fasting. kept asking everybody, "What are you noticing? What are you noticing?" And
they were like, "No, I'm not hungry." And I kept saying, "Yeah, that's what a fasting lifestyle will do. That's why this book sold over a million copies because it stopped hunger and helped people lose weight while balancing their
hormones and helping them build muscle, not not breaking the body down." not not breaking the body down." So, fasting naturally lowers insulin. It improves insulin sensitivity and it gives your digestive system the same
gives your digestive system the same kind of break as these GLP-1s do. It There is incredible evidence. There are hundreds of studies showing that fasting is incredible for weight loss and you don't need to go into a
three-day water fast. You can just go start fasting as little as 13 to 15 hours. It looks like just pushing your breakfast back an hour. It'll be hard in the beginning, but then the more you do
it, it gets easier and easier. And then you push it back another hour, and then you push it back another hour, and pretty soon you will be in a 15-hour fasting window, 9-hour eating window. There was a 25 pilot study in the
Journal of Nutrients that showed that intermittent fasting mixed with interval training over 8 weeks, that combination beat a low-calorie diet with
the same exercise with interval training. So, while improving body training. So, while improving body composition. If you are on these drugs, please look at adding cuz you're already not hungry. Let's just compress your
eating window and leave the rest for for fasting during the day instead of grazing all day long. Here are your five action steps to do right now, today.
First, you're going to flip your order of your next meal. fiber, protein, fat, and then the carbohydrate. Two, you're going to add one fermentable fiber food in today. Go find yourself some miracle noodles. I
promise you're thinking you can't find them, go find them. Go find konjac rice. know you will. Number three, let's become a fan of fermented foods. Let's get some kimchi and some sauerkraut into our grocery
Number four, let's start doing resistance training. It can be as simple as after this video, go do 20 push-ups. That's resistance training. And number That's resistance training. And number five, let's get you starting to fast.
You have so many [music] possibilities. Don't give up on yourself. Don't give your power over to these medications. If [music] you feel like you need the medication, pair it with the lifestyle that I just taught you. [music]
But most importantly, we have to understand how important and how powerful the human body is. And it is modern-day living and modern-day food that has destroyed these the the production of this miraculous
appetite-suppressing [music] hormone. And so you can change that. And so that you start to [music] make your own for free. And most importantly, do not give up on yourself. You are living in a miracle.
And if these drugs are not the path you want to go, you can do it on your own. the solution. And if you're getting on the drugs, I hope you at least know all the ramifications. And [music] you now know the lifestyle
that goes with it that many doctors are not going to tell you. As always, I hope that helps. If you like this video, you're definitely going to want to check you're definitely going to want to check out the next one.
