currently in the lab, as you can see,

This game is a rogike built around

And so yeah, uh very very interesting
idea. I am super excited to see where
this goes. But I have been playing
around in the lab just kind of figure
out how the game works. I haven't
actually done a real run yet.
And so
that's what I'm looking to do.

and we will set it to standard mode so
that I can actually lose. Well,
actually, I've managed to lose on zen
mode anyway.

going to play on standard.

actually playing the full the the actual

This is a neat little game. It's trying
to be a rogike as a
network engineer. Very interesting idea.

Mostly it's just been schedule shifts
have made it really difficult to find a
good time to stream. But I'm hoping to
start getting more in now.

and I need to make a DNS entry for that
one server or that one service. Uh, I
don't have it marked in there. Should go

You can add items to the clipboard.
Yep. You unlock better networking
equipment
and you
have like um different bonuses you can
receive as you play. Like you want to
put money towards this open-source
project and it will give you a command
later on that you can use to simplify
your network in some way. Or you might
get access to say firewalls early to
deal with worms on the network.
Really interesting ideas here.
And I've already accidentally screwed up
this floor because I ordered all the
same color cable on accident.

or annoying depending on your mood.

Yeah, I I know Unix and Linux
enough.
I can use command line. I can edit and
write in Vim. Um
I've had to write machine code before,
that sort of thing, but it's not an
everyday thing I do. Yes, this the cable
spaghetti is my favorite part. It really
helps sell it. Like it's going to be a
mess in no time.

make a DNS entry for it so that the
users can get to it.

And they're happy.
They have over the number of users they
can handle.

But yeah, there's a couple of things in
here. So, there is
a set of items that you can unlock or a
set of apps within your little tablet
here that you can unlock. One gives you
access to sticky notes that you can
write to leave notes to yourself. Like
if I wanted to mark this is for floor
two, this is for floor one. or if I
wanted to mark on my server that this is
the DNS server, that sort of thing. Uh,
if you hover over them, it does show you
it. But if you need a quick reference,
you can do that. Uh, racking so that you
can buy new server racks, um, new little
shelves to put somewhere.
A music player that is a reference
classic. A network graph system. That is
actually kind of cool.
um socket system. Add more socket to the
wall,
that sort of stuff
in the market. There is everything.
And it continues and you get you find
you get more as the game progresses like
companies release new things.
So, like in the switch category, I only
have these five to pick from right now,
and they're very simple ones. Um, there
are two of them that are rack mount
and
only one of them is mixed media.
uh mixed media being it can take fiber
connections and Ethernet connections,
but it has some good simplifications and
spots. At first, it was a little strange
for me to get used to the whole network
addresses being five digits instead of
the octet system we use, but this is
better. Honestly, there's no need to do
anything else. And when thinking about
it, the octet, the octic system is
arbitrary in the first place for what we
needed. So using an arbitrary system
here works as well, just as well.
But as the game progresses each day, you
get payment from the floors for meeting
their needs
and the tower will expand
and it will tell you when or you can
tell it to do it automatically.
So this one's going to have it looks
like three users on it, but it will only
tell you what one of them is going to
be.
Oh, looks like there's another flow
that's going to happen.
the recycling floor. Okay, so that one
will have a recycling center. I think
all I need to do with that one is
similar to the other, just set it up
with a DNS entry, connect it to the
system.
Yes, in here are proposals. This game
just released into early access, so
I'm really excited to see where they
take it. And I'm hoping they lean heavy
onto the roglike aspect. Um, there's all
kinds of things that they could do with,
say, finding network switches that you
can get them really cheap, but maybe one
or two of the ports don't work
correctly, like they only get 50%
capacity on them. Things like that.
There are little things that you could
do to help
Add those elements of randomness.

links to the other floors. That's kind
of how you manage getting to the other
floors.
Is there a cable management system?
Your own forethought
is the best way to put it. So like color
coding coming up with a standard of
servers are always connected by a green
cable sort of idea or uplinks to the
wall are red while links between
switches are done in yellow.
It's much more old school in terms of
how to deal with it. It strikes me as
early 2000s
network management
before there was a lot of
the understandings that we've learned
and why we don't do it those ways
anymore.
Let's see. I'm going to buy a 10 port
switch
and another five port.
I'm going to get power cable for that
one and a power cable for the other one.
And I'm going to start doing a little
bit more thought into
how I wire these. I'm going to go ahead
and swap some of these out for other
colors so that I can keep it organized a
bit better.

am going to go with these units are in

And I've got a couple of the days to
think it over before it auto accepts the

equipment to use like network routers
where you have to actually set up the
routes. You have to program in the
routes that you wanted to use. And I had
in the lab where I experimented with
just if that's all I had and I wanted to
use it as a switch up towards an end
point, what did I need to do to make it
do that? And you can do that. That's an
option. Don't do that.

the real world is security equipment I

is usually a standard that's used.
Yellow's also typically used for
anything that uses PoE, but with so much
equipment moving towards PoE,
it's kind of become
less used for that reason.
Okay, so with this one, the way it works
is
this user wants access to CCTV footage
and they can't
directly access the device. I think you
have to set up a small server for them.
Well, I say small, it's a fairly
expensive server because it requires
enough storage. PoE is kind of magical.
I agree. I love PoE.
Yeah, PoE has been a fantastic
technology. And the amount of power you
can actually send through them now is
really impressive.

So improvements that could be made would
be an easier method of knowing
when users are unhappy like that. There
is a monitor that you can buy and set up
in your office, but it's a little bit
difficult to read and doesn't really
make a whole ton of sense. So, I think a
more built into the interface kind of
way of knowing when somebody's unhappy
could be good.
Overall though, I really like the
direction this is heading and I think
this is a really fun game.
So, yeah, if you're interested, I
recommend checking it out. I'm actually
gonna go ahead and hop back into this. I

what was the issue with them?

it is multiplayer. It's actually being
designed from the ground up to be a
multiplayer
co-op like economic sim game.
So that's part of what's being developed
out
because yeah, I could definitely see it
being useful the more floors that you
get and managing even just replacing
equipment like this. This is two things
went down.
So both of those need to be replaced and
thankfully it's just a matter of
replacing the hardware.
So, all I need to do is order two of
those switches and that's it. Since I
can just pop them on top and then switch
the cables over since thankfully it
doesn't burn out the cable.
But yeah, having some better ways to
show when there are errors like that
could be useful.
Even if it's just more of a user
complaints like um a ticket came through
sort of idea like a ticket shows up in
the corner of the thing saying oh users
reports network outage and even make
ones where they're wrong like the user
gives you completely wrong information.
That would be great. I would love that.
User states
banking website broken. And then it
turns out it was never anything to do
with the website. They never plugged in
their computer.
I had to I had to drive in one time to
go plug in a phone.
Anybody that's ever worked it knows what
I mean. It's just that that's what it's
like.

of them figure it out.
