[0:00] picking your main can be one of the [0:01] toughest decisions you make when playing [0:03] World of Warcraft and it's never been [0:04] more of a difficult Choice than it is [0:06] right now while it may be easy to follow [0:08] Trends and get hyped over tier list [0:09] videos I wanted to make a guide on the [0:11] right way to pick your main that isn't [0:13] going to leave you frustrated if you end [0:15] up picking what your favorite YouTuber [0:16] tells you is some Godly s tier spec now [0:19] in this video I'll be giving you a [0:21] series of questions that you should [0:22] answer that will help you make the right [0:24] choice and will increase your chances of [0:26] success and enjoyment in whatever class [0:28] or spec you decide to play and lastly be [0:30] sure to stick around for the end of the [0:32] video where I'll be giving you guys my [0:34] top suggestions for each role in the [0:36] game that you can't go wrong with so the [0:38] first thing I wanted to talk about with [0:40] this video is going to be the warband [0:42] system now the warband system is going [0:44] to be that new feature that's coming to [0:45] the war within which is going to allow [0:47] us to have shared progression between [0:49] all of our alts and in my opinion I [0:50] think the warband system is going to [0:53] basically make the option of picking our [0:54] main that much easier essentially the [0:57] warband system is alt insurance now [0:59] prior to this expansion I think picking [1:01] your main was probably a more permanent [1:03] and more serious decision but because of [1:05] the warband system it's going to be a [1:07] lot easier because now if you guys pick [1:09] your main and you know down the road [1:11] you're just not feeling it you'll be [1:12] able to swap characters pretty easily [1:14] with the warband system because the [1:15] warband system is basically you know [1:17] shared progression between all of our [1:18] characters and obviously you'll have [1:20] those warbound items that you'll be [1:22] collecting that you can gear up your [1:23] alts with and on top of that I also [1:25] highly suggest that whatever main you [1:27] decide to pick you should always have a [1:28] backup option that means having an ALT [1:31] that you play regularly that wouldn't [1:32] require a ton of time and dedication to [1:35] gear up if you decided to switch [1:37] characters if there's one thing that I [1:39] wanted you guys to take away from this [1:40] video above all else it is this do not [1:43] chase the flavor of the month I know how [1:45] tough this one can be because I [1:46] personally love tearless videos and it's [1:48] always really hard to watch these videos [1:51] you know someone will be like oh yeah [1:52] subtlety Rogues s tier it's going to [1:54] blow everything out of the water you [1:55] guys need to play this and you're [1:56] sitting here watching the video and [1:57] you're just like dang I really should [1:59] play a right now but I'm here to tell [2:01] you guys do not do this chasing the [2:03] flavor of the month is never a good [2:05] option because two things are going to [2:06] happen firstly you're going to spend a [2:08] bunch of time and investment into [2:10] gearing up this flavor the month spec [2:12] only to have it be nerfed into the [2:13] ground later on and you're going to be [2:15] really frustrated on top of that also [2:17] the flavor of the month might be [2:19] something that you don't enjoy playing [2:20] and that's going to burn you out later [2:22] on down the road and I get it you [2:24] probably want to be playing something [2:25] that's op and just does really well I do [2:27] too but the thing is when it comes to [2:29] balance tuning in World of Warcraft it [2:31] just changes way too much for you to [2:34] have that be a consideration when you're [2:35] trying to pick a main a much better way [2:37] to go about this is to find a class in [2:40] Spec that you actually enjoy playing [2:42] because chances are eventually whatever [2:44] you're playing at some point during the [2:46] duration of the expansion your spec is [2:48] going to be really good and that's how [2:49] balance tuning works it's literally a [2:51] roll of the dice on whether something is [2:53] going to be good or not unless you're [2:54] playing something like a feral Druid [2:56] sorry guys so this next question is [2:58] something that is going to to be a [3:00] really big factor in what you guys want [3:02] to play and that is going to be are you [3:04] a more casual player or a more hardcore [3:06] player and what do I mean by this I [3:08] consider a casual player someone that [3:11] you know plays only a few hours a week [3:13] maybe they have like an hour or two [3:14] after work on the weekends something [3:16] like that they do LFR or maybe they' [3:18] dipped their toes into the normal mode [3:21] of the raid or even done a few low [3:23] levels of Mythic plus now if that sounds [3:25] like you you guys have the best choices [3:27] because you can literally pick whatever [3:29] you want to play balance tuning and [3:31] player perception do not apply to you [3:33] guys now if you're a hardcore player [3:35] there are some things that you do need [3:36] to consider when picking your main and [3:38] that's going to be balance tuning and [3:40] player perception hey there buddy uh [3:42] didn't you just say that uh not to pick [3:44] flavor of the month and play with you [3:45] enjoy yes I did say that but there is a [3:48] big difference between trying to pick [3:50] the flavor of the month and chasing [3:51] Trends versus not picking the DPS that [3:55] is bottom of the barrel when it comes to [3:56] damage and never getting invited to a [3:58] group and that is the main reason why I [4:00] always tell everyone to have a backup [4:02] alt and that is why I think War bands is [4:04] such an awesome feature for the war [4:06] within because again it's going to make [4:08] having that backup character so much [4:10] easier to maintain and have ready in [4:12] case whatever class and spec you picked [4:13] is just terrible the next big question [4:16] you need to ask yourself is do you want [4:18] to tank DPS or heal maybe you want to do [4:21] a couple of things maybe you want to DPS [4:23] but also tank when you need to or maybe [4:25] you want to do all of them some choices [4:27] definitely have more options than others [4:29] for example a druid is going to be a [4:30] really good pick if you want to [4:32] literally do everything in the game [4:33] because the Druid can literally do [4:35] everything it can tank it can heal it's [4:37] got a melee and a range DPS option and [4:39] regardless of the spec that you play on [4:41] the Druid it's got a ton of utility that [4:43] people want in their groups so [4:44] definitely take a look at the different [4:46] classes that you're thinking about and [4:47] see what kind of options they have for [4:49] their specs another thing that I want [4:51] you guys to take into consideration when [4:53] you're picking your class in Spec is [4:55] something that I call reroll insurance [4:57] now this mainly is more focused towards [4:59] DPS players but that is basically [5:02] picking a class that has multiple specs [5:04] at all DPS so that way you know if your [5:07] spec that you're playing and enjoy is [5:09] not very good you still have two other [5:11] options that are more than likely going [5:12] to be a lot better than what you're [5:14] currently using so for example let's say [5:16] you're playing a mage right and you love [5:17] playing Arcane but arcane's not [5:19] performing really well well you have two [5:21] other options there's probably a very [5:23] good chance that fire or Frost are both [5:25] doing pretty good so instead of having [5:27] to reroll to a brand new class you can [5:30] just swap specs and play something that [5:32] just does a little bit better and this [5:33] brings up a really good point and that [5:35] is whatever class you guys decide to [5:37] play make sure that you enjoy playing [5:39] all the specs that it brings to the [5:41] table if you just absolutely love [5:43] playing a shadow priest but you hate [5:45] playing discipline or holy what happens [5:47] if Shadow ends up being really bad [5:49] that's literally the only DPS spec for [5:51] priest so your chances are you're either [5:53] going to one trick and just you know [5:55] stick with playing the shadow priest [5:56] even when it's really bad or you're just [5:58] going to have to play something else [5:59] this this next question is going to [6:00] drastically affect your choice and that [6:02] is going to be simply are you someone [6:04] that plays this game by yourself or are [6:06] you in a guild or just have a group of [6:08] friends that you play the game with the [6:09] reason why I say this is because if you [6:11] are a solo player you're going to be at [6:13] the mercy of player perception a lot [6:15] more than you would if you're playing [6:16] with a group of friends and what I mean [6:18] by this is that you're going to have a [6:20] really rough time if you're playing a [6:22] class in Spec that a lot of people or [6:25] the player perception is sucks so for [6:27] example if people think that in enement [6:29] shamans are terrible you're probably [6:31] going to have a really hard time getting [6:32] invited to any groups if you're playing [6:34] an Enhancement Shaman and then on the [6:35] other side if you are part of a guild or [6:38] you've got a group of friends that you [6:39] guys play the game with regularly who [6:40] cares what the player perception is [6:42] because your friends are going to invite [6:43] you because you're their friend so now [6:46] it's time for me to give you guys my [6:47] recommendations of what I think are [6:49] going to be really good picks going into [6:51] the war within regardless of balance [6:53] tuning now as a quick disclaimer I just [6:55] want to remind you guys my choices are [6:58] not based off of DPS or performance or [7:00] anything like that my choices are simply [7:02] what I think are fun approachable and [7:05] very versatile picks that you guys can [7:07] play and have a really good time with so [7:09] starting off with tanks my first pick [7:11] here is going to be the mountain thing [7:13] protection Warrior mainly because I just [7:15] really like the aesthetic of the [7:16] Mountain King from Warcraft 3 so it's [7:18] really cool that they're bringing that [7:19] back into the game and also the [7:21] playaround Thunderclap is really good [7:24] prop Warriors are just generally overall [7:25] really good tanks when it comes to [7:27] taking and absorbing damage so you [7:29] really really can't go wrong here my [7:30] next pick is going to be the San Lane [7:32] blood death knight mainly because I feel [7:35] like with blood death Knights they're [7:36] just really good at self-healing even [7:39] though they just got a massive Nerf to [7:40] that with that last patch but I do think [7:42] the whole idea of a blood death knight [7:45] SL vampire kind of thing fits really [7:47] well with the blood DK and I feel like [7:49] it's just going to have a ton of even [7:50] more self-healing than it has before [7:52] plus blood dks are really easy to play [7:55] and death grip is just so good to have [7:57] my last pick for the recommendation for [7:59] tanking is going to be the Druid of the [8:01] claw Guardian Druid mainly because I [8:03] think the improvements with the shape [8:04] shifting is going to be really good and [8:06] I think it's just going to flow really [8:07] well with Guardian Druid in general plus [8:09] Guardian Druid is just really easy to [8:11] play for our DPS picks I'm going to go [8:13] with the Arcane Mage specifically the [8:15] Spells Slinger mainly because Arcane [8:18] recently just got a massive rework the [8:20] spec in general is just a lot easier to [8:22] play now and the actual like play style [8:24] is really fun it's really Snappy and [8:27] it's actually the spec that I'm going to [8:29] be remaining in the war within my next [8:31] pick is going to go with the Riders of [8:33] the Apocalypse on holy death knight and [8:35] I really don't feel like I need to [8:36] explain why I mean having mounted combat [8:39] out in the world is really cool just the [8:40] overall theme of this hero Talent is [8:43] just insanely cool and also Unholy death [8:45] Knights have historically been in a [8:47] really good spot and then for my last [8:49] pick for DPS I'm going to go with the [8:50] Templar red Paladin the aesthetic of [8:52] Templar red paladins is just really cool [8:54] in general you're just bringing down [8:56] these Hammers and I think the play style [8:58] is going to be really fun to play it's [9:00] really easy and I think it's going to do [9:02] really well for healers the first one [9:04] I'm going to go with is going to be the [9:05] restoration Shaman specifically totemic [9:08] I think the new totems that it's going [9:10] to bring to the table are really cool [9:12] and it also looks like they're kind of [9:13] going back to the whole chain heel play [9:15] style for that healer which I thought [9:17] was probably one of the most fun ways to [9:19] play A Healer and then also they're [9:20] bringing Sky Fury which is a brand new [9:22] raid buff for Shaman for my next pick [9:25] I'm going to go with the lightsmith Holy [9:26] Paladin mainly because holy paladins are [9:29] just one of those picks that are always [9:30] in the group you know when you go to a [9:32] raid you always have a Holy Paladin [9:34] there so they pretty much are guaranteed [9:36] a spot because of their kit and also I [9:38] know that lightsmith has been struggling [9:40] recently I know the player perception on [9:42] the forms has been kind of mixed but [9:44] hopefully they can iron that down and [9:46] make it a lot better and then my last [9:48] pick for the healer is just pure out of [9:50] nostalgia and that's going to be the [9:51] keeper of the grow of Restoration Druid [9:53] mainly because I personally am a [9:55] Warcraft 3 player or was and the whole [9:57] idea of a you know Keeper of the Grove [9:59] coming to the game is really cool I'm [10:00] really interested to see what the [10:02] treants are going to be like for the [10:03] Healer but in general just having some [10:05] Triant out when you're healing is going [10:06] to be just really cool to see now that [10:08] you guys have a couple of [10:09] recommendations to look at when you're [10:11] trying to pick your main why don't you [10:12] do me a favor and click that subscribe [10:14] button on my channel if you enjoyed this [10:15] video because here we covered tons of [10:17] World of Warcraft content and other RPG [10:19] games in general so chances are I'll [10:21] probably be covering a game that you [10:23] like also let me know in the comments [10:24] section what class and spec you guys are [10:26] considering for the war within thank you [10:28] so much for watching today's video I'm [10:30] still solo and I'll see you guys in the [10:31] next one
