[0:00] getting into manga is one of the best [0:02] decisions you'll ever make but only if [0:04] you do it the right way if you let [0:05] yourself get intimidated by all of the [0:07] different kinds of manga that are out [0:09] there or you just start reading what [0:10] everyone else is reading you're gonna [0:11] miss out on the dozens even hundreds of [0:14] manga that almost feel like they were [0:15] made just for you and for those of you [0:17] who have been reading manga for years [0:19] but you haven't really tried anything [0:21] else you're gonna miss out on everything [0:23] this industry has to offer so whether [0:25] you're completely new to manga or you're [0:27] looking to grow as a manga fan I'm gonna [0:29] give you three easy steps that will help [0:31] you develop a love for the industry as a [0:33] whole and make rating manga as fun as it [0:35] can possibly be the first step as [0:37] obvious as it might seem is to find out [0:40] whether you actually like reading manga [0:42] it might be cool to talk about anime [0:44] with your friends and those covers might [0:46] look really cool in the bookstore but [0:47] until you actually pick up a manga and [0:49] try it out you won't really know if it's [0:51] for you like I said I know this might [0:53] seem obvious but this will be the [0:55] difference between getting into manga as [0:56] a whole or just getting into one series [0:59] you just happen to really like now the [1:01] easiest way to start is by reading the [1:03] manga of your favorite anime for me this [1:05] was Dragon Ball I loved playing the [1:07] games as a kid but that was my main [1:09] source of learning about the story one [1:11] day I saw the original manga for sale [1:12] and decided to give it a try years later [1:14] I was a fan of the one piece anime I [1:17] couldn't wait to find out what was [1:18] happening later in the story so I [1:20] decided to catch up to the manga this is [1:22] the easiest way to get into manga [1:24] because you already liked the story so [1:26] it's really just a matter of reading [1:28] that same story as it was originally [1:30] portrayed but what if you don't have any [1:32] anime you're interested in well then [1:34] that's when you do what I said earlier [1:35] if you go to the bookstore or the comic [1:37] book store and you're like wow I have no [1:39] idea what that is but it looks really [1:41] cool then my suggestion is to start with [1:43] that odds are if it looks cool then [1:45] you're probably gonna enjoy it in fact [1:47] that's exactly how I got into Shaman [1:50] King I kept seeing it at the comic book [1:52] store and this absolutely gorgeous cover [1:54] was just like buy me buy me buy me so I [1:57] said screw it and now I'm in love with [1:59] it once you eventually find that one [2:01] manga you do like then the last part of [2:03] this step is to try out a few other [2:04] manga like I said it might be the case [2:07] that you really just like this one story [2:08] if that's the case then you really [2:10] shouldn't force yourself to Read Manga [2:12] if you've tried a few and they just [2:13] weren't for you but on the other hand [2:15] you won't know until you try it's like [2:17] people who try one crappy beer and then [2:19] they're like yeah it's not really for me [2:20] it's like there's hundreds of beers out [2:22] there and you decided you don't like all [2:24] of them based on this one shitty one you [2:26] owe it to yourself to try at least a few [2:28] more but let's assume you did all that [2:30] and you've decided that you really do [2:32] want to get into manga before I tell you [2:34] the Second Step make sure to like the [2:36] video if it's been helping you so far [2:37] it's the easiest way to support the [2:39] channel and to help spread the video to [2:41] other viewers like you anyway now that [2:43] you know you're a manga fan the next [2:45] step is to find out what kind of manga [2:47] fan you are this might seem kinda [2:49] pointless at first but let me explain if [2:51] you are trying to read more manga then [2:52] you owe it to yourself to get the most [2:54] enjoyment out of that experience as you [2:56] possibly can and the best way to do that [2:59] is to find out what kind of manga you [3:00] like and which ones you don't like and [3:03] to that you might say well aren't they [3:04] basically all the same yeah no that'd be [3:07] like if you said all fighting games are [3:09] basically the same there's 3D Fighters [3:11] 2D Fighters anime Fighters team Fighters [3:14] whatever the heck smashes once you get [3:16] into it you realize there's a bunch of [3:18] different kinds of fighting games and [3:20] those games are for different kinds of [3:21] players and the same is true for manga [3:24] readers there's battle Shonen fantasy [3:26] Dark Fantasy gag comedies romances [3:29] Sports Manga romance Sports manga the [3:33] list goes on so it's like okay so how do [3:35] I find out which ones I like the most [3:37] well the best way to start is by reading [3:39] different manga by the same author for [3:41] example let's go with one of my personal [3:43] favorites hiromashima let's say you went [3:46] from the fairy tale anime to the Fairy [3:48] Tale manga and now you're looking for [3:49] something else well before fairy tale [3:51] mashima wrote Rave Master Brave Master [3:54] is a similar fantasy type story but it [3:57] also takes a lot of different approaches [3:58] to certain story elements so if you read [4:01] that you might like the differences or [4:03] you might not the same is true if you [4:05] read even zero the manga he's writing [4:07] right now you might find out that you [4:09] prefer fantasy over science fantasy [4:12] personally I came to realize I love the [4:14] way this guy writes stories in odds are [4:16] you probably will too but even if you [4:18] don't at least you will start to see [4:20] what your preferences are and why those [4:22] are your preferences with that you'll [4:24] have a much better idea of the manga you [4:26] do enjoy for when you look for something [4:27] new and on that note don't stop there [4:30] once you read different manga by the [4:32] same author reads a manga by different [4:33] people you'll come to find which writing [4:35] styles you like which kinds of [4:37] characters you like and probably most of [4:39] all you'll start to see which kinds of [4:41] art styles you prefer there's a bunch of [4:43] manga with really good art like Dr Stone [4:45] one punch man and witch at adelier but [4:48] you won't know if you like them until [4:50] you try out stories by different mangaka [4:52] after that it's just a matter of trying [4:54] out different genres obviously the big [4:57] one is Battle Shonen which is the more [4:59] DBZ type story but like I said there's a [5:01] bunch of genres there's Sports manga [5:04] like haikyuu gag comedies like [5:07] and there's romances and you might be [5:09] like okay bro I'm willing to try out a [5:11] manga about volleyball but I'm not about [5:13] to try all that romantic stuff but trust [5:16] me I didn't think I'd be into it either [5:17] and now I love romance manga it's just a [5:20] matter of finding the one you like or [5:22] maybe you really don't like romance [5:24] again try everything out try as many [5:27] different manga as you can by figuring [5:29] out what your preferences are and [5:31] stepping outside of your comfort zone [5:33] you'll be able to enjoy everything you [5:35] possibly can out of the medium okay so [5:37] now to the best of your ability you [5:39] figured out what kind of manga fan you [5:41] are the final step is pretty [5:43] straightforward but it's one that a lot [5:45] of people Overlook the third step is to [5:48] become a more knowledgeable manga fan [5:50] that probably sounds so pretentious but [5:54] let me explain what I mean not too long [5:55] ago everyone was claiming that the manga [5:58] Phantom Seer was definitely going to [5:59] blow up but then everyone was shocked [6:01] when it got cut well if you had been [6:03] paying attention to the magazine then [6:05] you would have seen it coming Phantom [6:07] Seer had good sales but it often placed [6:09] in the lower spots of the table of [6:11] contents and weakly Shonen jump and it [6:13] almost never got color pages color pages [6:15] are how the magazine promotes its manga [6:18] for example Dr Stone was Often [6:20] overshadowed by manga like one piece and [6:22] jjk but it got tons and tons and tons of [6:25] color pages even more than those two so [6:28] you knew it wasn't going anywhere so if [6:30] you ask me becoming a better manga fan [6:33] means becoming as knowledgeable about [6:35] manga as you can so you can see all of [6:37] the different Trends and get a better [6:39] appreciation for the industry the first [6:41] way you should do this is one I just [6:43] mentioned you should follow the magazine [6:45] rather than a few manga you happen to [6:47] like for example let's say you like one [6:49] piece jjk or my hero Academia those are [6:52] all published in weekly Shonen Jump so [6:54] the first thing you should do is check [6:56] out all of the manga that are currently [6:58] running in weekly shown jump that [7:00] includes all of the four new manga They [7:02] just added and that includes the [7:04] incredibly over hated me and roboco now [7:07] do you have to catch up to every single [7:08] one you should try but at this point you [7:11] know what kind of manga fan you are so [7:13] there's no point in forcing yourself to [7:15] read a series you clearly don't like at [7:17] the very least you'll be able to follow [7:18] the trends and jump and get an idea of [7:20] how it compares to other magazines and [7:22] on that note the next thing you need to [7:24] do is check out other magazines so for [7:27] example I mentioned hiromashima earlier [7:29] well Eden zero is currently running in [7:32] weekly Shonen magazine so you can check [7:34] out the other battle Shonen from that [7:36] magazine like fire force which actually [7:38] ended not too long ago or its spiritual [7:41] successor gotchi Akita it also has its [7:44] own batch of romance manga as well as [7:46] whatever the heck Ranger reject is I [7:48] really like Ranger reject I just feel [7:50] wrong for some reason calling it a [7:52] battle Shonen it could be a battle [7:53] Shonen I just I don't know I'm stupid [7:55] point being there's a whole other world [7:57] of manga outside of weekly Shonen Trump [7:59] and these other magazines have their own [8:01] Trends going on you owe it to yourself [8:03] to check out the different magazines [8:05] that way you'll be able to follow all of [8:07] the different Trends in the industry but [8:09] once you're on the up and up on things [8:11] in the industry the next thing you [8:13] should do is check out the classics [8:15] again pretty straightforward but still [8:17] essential manga has been around for a [8:19] while and there's a lot of manga that [8:21] inspired the ones that are out right now [8:22] Dragon Ball obviously inspired the big [8:25] three but there were other great manga [8:27] out at the time like JoJo's Bizarre [8:28] Adventure and Fist of the North Star [8:30] they might be a bit different from the [8:32] manga that are currently running but [8:34] they're still really good plus once you [8:35] read those manga you start to appreciate [8:37] the trends in manga as a whole you'll [8:39] see what it was like in the earlier [8:41] decades and how it's changed over time [8:43] then when a new manga comes out you can [8:45] be like oh wow they're really changing [8:46] things or Okay cool so they're going for [8:49] more of a bobobo type story they're [8:52] definitely not doing that I just really [8:53] want you to check out [8:55] anyway the only thing left after all of [8:58] this is something you're probably really [8:59] already doing at this point especially [9:01] if you're subscribed to this channel [9:03] that is make sure you engage with the [9:05] community don't get me wrong one piece [9:07] fans are the worst thing about one piece [9:09] and Twitter makes everything worse but [9:11] talking with everyone else about what [9:13] they're reading is going to help you [9:14] become more knowledgeable as a reader [9:17] you'll see what other people like and [9:18] don't like you'll see how people react [9:20] to new chapters and you'll challenge [9:22] Yourself by coming across some [9:24] recommendations and New Perspectives on [9:26] some of your favorite stories and [9:28] characters but at this point that's all [9:31] I can suggest see if you even like manga [9:33] find out what kind of manga fan you are [9:35] and then challenge yourself to get a [9:37] better appreciation for the industry as [9:39] a whole if you follow those three steps [9:41] not only are you guaranteed to fall in [9:43] love with manga but you will get as much [9:45] fun out of it for as long as you [9:48] possibly can now those were my three [9:50] tips at this point I want to hear your [9:52] thoughts what do you think is the best [9:54] way to get into manga how can you become [9:56] a better manga fan share your thoughts [9:58] and see what everyone else has to say [10:00] down in the comments I'll pick my [10:02] favorite and share as a comment of the [10:04] week on my community Tab and if you'd
