The goal is to help viewers enjoy manga more fully and avoid getting stuck in a single series or genre.

## Transcript

getting into manga is one of the best
decisions you'll ever make but only if
you do it the right way if you let
yourself get intimidated by all of the
different kinds of manga that are out
there or you just start reading what
everyone else is reading you're gonna
miss out on the dozens even hundreds of
manga that almost feel like they were
made just for you and for those of you
who have been reading manga for years
but you haven't really tried anything
else you're gonna miss out on everything
this industry has to offer so whether
you're completely new to manga or you're
looking to grow as a manga fan I'm gonna
give you three easy steps that will help
you develop a love for the industry as a
whole and make rating manga as fun as it
can possibly be the first step as
obvious as it might seem is to find out
whether you actually like reading manga
it might be cool to talk about anime
with your friends and those covers might
look really cool in the bookstore but
until you actually pick up a manga and
try it out you won't really know if it's
for you like I said I know this might
seem obvious but this will be the
difference between getting into manga as
a whole or just getting into one series
you just happen to really like now the
easiest way to start is by reading the
manga of your favorite anime for me this
was Dragon Ball I loved playing the
games as a kid but that was my main
source of learning about the story one
day I saw the original manga for sale
and decided to give it a try years later
I was a fan of the one piece anime I
couldn't wait to find out what was
happening later in the story so I
decided to catch up to the manga this is
the easiest way to get into manga
because you already liked the story so
it's really just a matter of reading
that same story as it was originally
portrayed but what if you don't have any
anime you're interested in well then
that's when you do what I said earlier
if you go to the bookstore or the comic
book store and you're like wow I have no
idea what that is but it looks really
cool then my suggestion is to start with
that odds are if it looks cool then
you're probably gonna enjoy it in fact
that's exactly how I got into Shaman
King I kept seeing it at the comic book
store and this absolutely gorgeous cover
was just like buy me buy me buy me so I
said screw it and now I'm in love with
it once you eventually find that one
manga you do like then the last part of
this step is to try out a few other
manga like I said it might be the case
that you really just like this one story
if that's the case then you really
shouldn't force yourself to Read Manga
if you've tried a few and they just
weren't for you but on the other hand
you won't know until you try it's like
people who try one crappy beer and then
they're like yeah it's not really for me
it's like there's hundreds of beers out
there and you decided you don't like all
of them based on this one shitty one you
owe it to yourself to try at least a few
more but let's assume you did all that
and you've decided that you really do
want to get into manga before I tell you
the Second Step make sure to like the
video if it's been helping you so far
it's the easiest way to support the
channel and to help spread the video to
other viewers like you anyway now that
you know you're a manga fan the next
step is to find out what kind of manga
fan you are this might seem kinda
pointless at first but let me explain if
you are trying to read more manga then
you owe it to yourself to get the most
enjoyment out of that experience as you
possibly can and the best way to do that
is to find out what kind of manga you
like and which ones you don't like and
to that you might say well aren't they
basically all the same yeah no that'd be
like if you said all fighting games are
basically the same there's 3D Fighters
2D Fighters anime Fighters team Fighters
whatever the heck smashes once you get
into it you realize there's a bunch of
different kinds of fighting games and
those games are for different kinds of
players and the same is true for manga
readers there's battle Shonen fantasy
Dark Fantasy gag comedies romances
Sports Manga romance Sports manga the
list goes on so it's like okay so how do
I find out which ones I like the most
well the best way to start is by reading
different manga by the same author for
example let's go with one of my personal
favorites hiromashima let's say you went
from the fairy tale anime to the Fairy
Tale manga and now you're looking for
something else well before fairy tale
mashima wrote Rave Master Brave Master
is a similar fantasy type story but it
also takes a lot of different approaches
to certain story elements so if you read
that you might like the differences or
you might not the same is true if you
read even zero the manga he's writing
right now you might find out that you
prefer fantasy over science fantasy
personally I came to realize I love the
way this guy writes stories in odds are
you probably will too but even if you
don't at least you will start to see
what your preferences are and why those
are your preferences with that you'll
have a much better idea of the manga you
do enjoy for when you look for something
new and on that note don't stop there
once you read different manga by the
same author reads a manga by different
people you'll come to find which writing
styles you like which kinds of
characters you like and probably most of
all you'll start to see which kinds of
art styles you prefer there's a bunch of
manga with really good art like Dr Stone
one punch man and witch at adelier but
you won't know if you like them until
you try out stories by different mangaka
after that it's just a matter of trying
out different genres obviously the big
one is Battle Shonen which is the more
DBZ type story but like I said there's a
bunch of genres there's Sports manga
like haikyuu gag comedies like
and there's romances and you might be
like okay bro I'm willing to try out a
manga about volleyball but I'm not about
to try all that romantic stuff but trust
me I didn't think I'd be into it either
and now I love romance manga it's just a
matter of finding the one you like or
maybe you really don't like romance
again try everything out try as many
different manga as you can by figuring
out what your preferences are and
stepping outside of your comfort zone
you'll be able to enjoy everything you
possibly can out of the medium okay so
now to the best of your ability you
figured out what kind of manga fan you
are the final step is pretty
straightforward but it's one that a lot
of people Overlook the third step is to
become a more knowledgeable manga fan
that probably sounds so pretentious but
let me explain what I mean not too long
ago everyone was claiming that the manga
Phantom Seer was definitely going to
blow up but then everyone was shocked
when it got cut well if you had been
paying attention to the magazine then
you would have seen it coming Phantom
Seer had good sales but it often placed
in the lower spots of the table of
contents and weakly Shonen jump and it
almost never got color pages color pages
are how the magazine promotes its manga
for example Dr Stone was Often
overshadowed by manga like one piece and
jjk but it got tons and tons and tons of
color pages even more than those two so
you knew it wasn't going anywhere so if
you ask me becoming a better manga fan
means becoming as knowledgeable about
manga as you can so you can see all of
the different Trends and get a better
appreciation for the industry the first
way you should do this is one I just
mentioned you should follow the magazine
rather than a few manga you happen to
like for example let's say you like one
piece jjk or my hero Academia those are
all published in weekly Shonen Jump so
the first thing you should do is check
out all of the manga that are currently
running in weekly shown jump that
includes all of the four new manga They
just added and that includes the
incredibly over hated me and roboco now
do you have to catch up to every single
one you should try but at this point you
know what kind of manga fan you are so
there's no point in forcing yourself to
read a series you clearly don't like at
the very least you'll be able to follow
the trends and jump and get an idea of
how it compares to other magazines and
on that note the next thing you need to
do is check out other magazines so for
example I mentioned hiromashima earlier
well Eden zero is currently running in
weekly Shonen magazine so you can check
out the other battle Shonen from that
magazine like fire force which actually
ended not too long ago or its spiritual
successor gotchi Akita it also has its
own batch of romance manga as well as
whatever the heck Ranger reject is I
really like Ranger reject I just feel
wrong for some reason calling it a
battle Shonen it could be a battle
Shonen I just I don't know I'm stupid
point being there's a whole other world
of manga outside of weekly Shonen Trump
and these other magazines have their own
Trends going on you owe it to yourself
to check out the different magazines
that way you'll be able to follow all of
the different Trends in the industry but
once you're on the up and up on things
in the industry the next thing you
should do is check out the classics
again pretty straightforward but still
essential manga has been around for a
while and there's a lot of manga that
inspired the ones that are out right now
Dragon Ball obviously inspired the big
three but there were other great manga
out at the time like JoJo's Bizarre
Adventure and Fist of the North Star
they might be a bit different from the
manga that are currently running but
they're still really good plus once you
read those manga you start to appreciate
the trends in manga as a whole you'll
see what it was like in the earlier
decades and how it's changed over time
then when a new manga comes out you can
be like oh wow they're really changing
things or Okay cool so they're going for
more of a bobobo type story they're
definitely not doing that I just really
want you to check out
anyway the only thing left after all of
this is something you're probably really
already doing at this point especially
if you're subscribed to this channel
that is make sure you engage with the
community don't get me wrong one piece
fans are the worst thing about one piece
and Twitter makes everything worse but
talking with everyone else about what
they're reading is going to help you
become more knowledgeable as a reader
you'll see what other people like and
don't like you'll see how people react
to new chapters and you'll challenge
Yourself by coming across some
recommendations and New Perspectives on
some of your favorite stories and
characters but at this point that's all
I can suggest see if you even like manga
find out what kind of manga fan you are
and then challenge yourself to get a
better appreciation for the industry as
a whole if you follow those three steps
not only are you guaranteed to fall in
love with manga but you will get as much
fun out of it for as long as you
possibly can now those were my three
tips at this point I want to hear your
thoughts what do you think is the best
way to get into manga how can you become
a better manga fan share your thoughts
and see what everyone else has to say
down in the comments I'll pick my
favorite and share as a comment of the
week on my community Tab and if you'd
like another video like this one then

best Manga for starters you can find
that video in the playlist linked right
