[00:03] infected mosquito bites you, the malaria parasite slips into your bloodstream and races to your liver. Hiding from your immune system inside liver cells, it quietly multiplies. Parasites then burst out and start targeting red blood cells. [00:18] Some infected cells become bumpy and sticky, others explode, and both consequences are deadly. In a nutshell, malaria kills you by suffocating your rupture or stop working, there aren't [00:32] enough to transport oxygen. Bits of parasites spitting out of ruptured cells trigger malaria's brutal fever cycles. Meanwhile, sticky blood cells can attach to walls and other cells causing huge pile-ups. Severe blockages can cause one [00:46] or multiple organs to run out of oxygen. In extreme cases, jams in the brain's tiny vessels can cause seizures, coma, and death. Since 2000, we've prevented around 14 million deaths like these, and by 2015, almost half the death rate. But [01:03] today, insecticide-treated nets are wearing out, and the parasites are becoming resistant to drugs. We have a vaccine that's reducing death rates and targeted treatments for vulnerable groups. Now, we need to make sure [01:15] everyone who needs these can access them.
