[00:00] Robberies will play a huge role in Grand Theft Auto 6, but there's some things you need to know about them. Let's get into it. Okay, so let's start at the beginning. [00:12] As I said, robberies will play a huge role in Grand Theft Auto 6, and based on what we know so far, pretty much any store you walk into can be robbed. However, there are different tiers to these sorts of robberies. [00:26] So at base level pretty much any convenience store any local small stores you can walk into you can rob. Now these ones are much smaller and simpler by design. They are not marked on the map and they are just stores you come across you see and you're like hey I need some money I'm going to walk in there and I'm going to rob it. [00:45] Now it sounds like these robberies will net you a little bit of cash but if you want to make more you need to look for bigger scores. Now how this works though is a little different. These robberies do show up on your map, however, they don't show up right away. [00:59] So what does that mean? Well, in order to find them, you need to do just that. You need to find them by exploring the map, perhaps getting a tip from a character, maybe overseeing something in the game. We don't know all the ways that these robberies might populate the map, [01:13] but once you have a lead or a tip, they will show up on the map, and you can check them, and it will show you the potential take. Now, this is sort of like how Red Dead Redemption 2 worked, although it wasn't quite as robust. [01:25] In Red Dead's case, every now and then a gang member would tell you about something, or you might help out a stranger, and he'll say, hey, there's a house over here, and they have something there, so you can go check it out and rob it, and you might get money. [01:37] This is a cool idea, and I actually liked it quite a bit, but it sounds like GTA 6 is going to really double down on this, because supposedly there are going to be way more places to rob. And now, some of these higher-tier robbery places, they also have more than just cash. [01:54] Depending on the store you are robbing, you might find jewelry, gold bars, you may find drugs, depending on what it is. And that stuff needs to be stored in a duffel bag. We'll get back to that in a bit, but it seems like the higher tier these robberies get, the more rewards they will be, [02:11] and perhaps the trickier they are to not only do, but also to make money from. Now, based on what we've seen from the extended look and other trivias, the Tomb Raider Rockstar is really trying to make each of these different robberies feel very dynamic. [02:25] One way that they are attempting to do that is by making the NPCs more reactive and responsive to your actions. So, for instance, if you do go in and rob a place, an NPC could see an opportunity to tackle you and mess up the robbery and presumably escape Apparently this happens somewhat often And so when you robbing a place you definitely need to be on the lookout for the people in the store How many people are in there [02:48] What sort of crowd control do you need to do in order to keep them in check? But I think that adds a lot more emergent storytelling in these robberies that I think could be really cool, as long as there are enough variations that can happen within these robberies. [03:02] Another thing that can happen is that it sounds like a lot of these different stores have a backroom, and in that back room there is a safe. Now, you can't just open up the safe as is. You need to find the code, [03:14] and it sounds like there are multiple ways to do this. You could find a code in the environment. Maybe you overhear a character say something, or as TGG mentioned in one of his videos, the person playing actually got a text with the code from a fence. [03:27] So maybe there's some sort of relationship you can develop with a fence, or maybe there's some piece of kit that you can buy from them that'll basically supply you with a code. if you are trying to rob the safe. I'm also curious if you can open it in a more destructive manner. [03:42] In Red Dead Redemption, there were parts where you just put dynamite on safes and you just blow them open. I imagine they don't have dynamite, but they probably have, like, fancier explosives or maybe, like, diamond cutters, I don't know, [03:54] to open it up, like, payday style. Maybe there's something like that later down the line. That's just conjecture, though, but it sounds pretty feasible based on what we know about robbery so far. Now another thing you need to consider while robbing a place are the CCTV cameras. [04:09] Now we talked a little bit about this a couple weeks ago in my video about heat, but if you rob a place and you don't take care of the CCTVs, the police will know what you look like and they will be able to track you using that. It sounds [04:21] like you can find a way to delete that CCTV, but I have to imagine you can also just shoot the cameras too. I imagine that will make you less of a professional criminal when looking at the criminal profile system, which we'll get into in [04:35] another video as well, but I imagine there's different ways to deal with these situations, whether that's crowd control, whether that's the CCTV, whether that's just the layout of the place. Is there a back door you can run out of? Is there a back room? How are you going to open the safe? [04:49] All of this sounds like it adds to that dynamic element, which sounds like it's going to make robberies a lot of fun, frankly. Now, let's say you do manage to pull off a higher tier robbery, and you walk away with a bunch of drugs or jewelry. What do you do with that? Well, [05:03] you need to take that to a specific fence. Throughout Leonida, there are different fences depending on the item. So there are jewelry fences, there are car fences, there are drug fences, and you need to take that to them, [05:15] give it to them, and then that gets converted into money. So this adds sort of an extra element to these robberies I have to imagine if you do one of the simpler robberies you just getting cash Maybe something else but a lot of times you just getting cash that going right into your cash on hand and then you can deposit in a bank With these bigger ones it seems like you [05:33] need to plan a little bit more ahead. And part of this comes down to the vehicle, right? Some vehicles can store a lot of stolen goods, some can't. Bikes can only carry what your characters are carrying. So it seems like there will be a loop of finding a place to rob, casing it, figuring [05:49] out where the CCTVs are, figuring out when it's busy, when it isn't, and then determining how much stuff you're actually going to steal, what that is. Once you've stolen it, then you need to plot a course to a fence, and then you need to [06:02] fence all that stuff and get the money. But when you start out the game, you actually don't know a lot of fences, and it sounds like as you progress through the story, do other jobs, heists, you'll start to get introduced to more fences throughout the game. This was kind of similar to Red Dead. [06:15] there were fences, but these fences, you could just sell anything you've stolen to them, get the money back. There's a little more nuance here. But the thing with vehicles is that there's a bit of strategy to the ones you want to use for a robbery, right? If you think about it, [06:30] a vehicle like a van can probably store a lot of duffel bags, but it's much slower and much tougher to get away from cops if you're in a slow, unwieldy van. So you have to weigh the risks with [06:42] the rewards, right? If you don't think you can get away with a heist with a van, maybe you choose a vehicle with some trunk space. You can store some duffel bags, not as much as the van, but you shouldn't have as much trouble getting away from the cops. And then finally, there are motorcycles, [06:56] and we actually got to see a cool clip of this as Jason waits for Lucia and they flee the crime scene. She just has a duffel bag on her back. That's all, because obviously there's no storage on the bike. And I have to wonder how much of this stuff also ties back to vehicle customization, [07:11] right that obviously plays a very big role in Grand Theft Auto 6 and I'm curious if maybe you know can you get saddlebags for your bike so you can store one extra duffel bag maybe you can expand the trunk space I don't know but it seems like all those sort of systems are also [07:27] interconnected as well in some way and then of course we probably need to talk a little bit about money so I talked about fencing stolen goods that shows up as your potential take if you are holding a duffel bag, you can see your cash on hand, and then there's money in the bank. [07:42] The way it works is pretty straightforward. Cash on hand is not safe. If you die, you lose it, or a significant chunk. We actually don't know if it's all the money in your pocket or just part of it. And then, of course, you have a bank account, so you need to get to an ATM machine, deposit that [07:57] money and that money is safe I curious how smart the cops are right Like if you just done a robbery are they going to be waiting by nearby ATMs to make sure you can deposit your money That be kind of interesting All right so let take a step back Robberies in GTA are very different than in previous games There is way more going [08:17] on and it seems like you need to have way more thought going into one. You can't just do what you do in GTA 5, or you know, what I do in GTA 5, where I just mark all the convenience stores on [08:29] the map, I'd go from one to the next, rob them, leave, and just keep moving. There wasn't much of a risk. There wasn't much thought. I just did it to make some quick money or because, you know, it might be kind of fun to pull off a robbery. It seems like in this, the stakes are so much [08:46] higher. There's more things that can go wrong. There's more things that can happen. There's more opportunities to make more money. But at the same time, the way this is intertwined with how money works, you can't just go on a unending robbing spree. Well, I guess you could do that, but the [09:01] risks are so much higher, because if you die, you are losing all that money. So it seems like there's just more planning from start to finish in order to pull one of these off. Personally, I really like that. It's called Grand Theft Auto. It's a game about committing crime, and I feel like up [09:17] until now, it's always felt a little arcade-y in terms of that. You know, you're just causing mayhem for the sake of fun, but there aren't a lot of ramifications that you actually have to engage with. The cops chase you, you die, they're gone, whatever. You escape them, easy. But in this, [09:34] I feel like you always need to be thinking like three, four, maybe even five steps ahead, which, you know, that's what good criminals do, right? They think multiple steps ahead. Now, I would say the one major question I have, and something we saw in the extended trailer, was that you can [09:48] pull off robberies as a team, meaning Jason and Lucia can go in together and pull off robberies. But I'm really curious how this works. Do you issue commands to one another? For instance, if I'm playing as Jason, do I tell Lucia that she needs to work the crowd [10:03] if we're robbing a busier store? Or maybe I'm playing as Lucia and I want Jason to be my getaway and I command him to stay outside? Or is it more dynamic? Do they just kind of respond depending on the robbery you are undertaking? [10:17] I'm not sure. I think that could be really interesting though, so I'm excited to see how that works when the game comes out. So that's how robberies work in GTA 6. Make sure to subscribe because we have a ton more GTA 6 videos in the pipeline, [10:29] especially when the game launches and you're not going to want to miss them. We'll see you next time.
