I'll let you guess why, is a mobility coach - Mobility training, at least in the form that we do it [01:42] It's really about joint-specific strength training. it's primarily about strengthening muscles at mid-ranges of motion, whereas in mobility, [01:57] the joints and the connective tissue. dysfunction, limitations, imbalances. and resilient body if we strengthen our areas of weakness. [02:15] an entire program for me to get me through the next 30 days. I've had in the past, like my knees and ankles, Today is day one of mobility training. [02:31] (rhythmic strumming) It stands for controlled articular rotations. through its full range of motion [02:46] and awareness of the movement itself, isolating the rotation of your neck, shoulders, hips, elbows, wrists, knees, ankles, and even your toes, [02:59] a range of motion that's often neglected This is the baseline of a lot of mobility programs, flexibility, and overall movement. [03:13] That was much different than I thought it would be. that it was gonna be more stretching. Clearly, I have a lot of work to do. [03:26] to my morning routine. over the course of about 15 minutes. It started to gimme greater awareness [03:40] I noticed the imbalance of flexibility And, it also gave me an effective way to loosen up my body But, as I learned this was just one small part [03:54] I realized there was a lot more to it. Okay, I'm gonna jump into a 50-minute mobility class now, (air whips) [04:08] and today I'm gonna be working out my knees. through its full range of motion. With this one, it's actually really easy to overcompensate, [04:23] so you really need to try to focus on that knee joint. I'll rotate my knee and place a few books under my foot [04:35] it's onto Pails and Rails, So, for my pails rotation, into these books here, rotating at the knee. [04:50] For rails, you initiate force in the opposing direction. Liftoffs, similar to Pails and Rails, [05:03] After a few more of these exercises, we finish off with more CARS rotations, than we had at the start of the class. [05:16] I thought there was no way I could possibly feel soreness I'm in a little bit of pain. that I haven't actually worked out those muscles [05:32] One thing that I've been working on a lot lately by updating my website. My favorite advice I've gotten so far about mobility [06:42] Regardless of what new activity we're getting into, right from the start. but that usually leads to overcompensation. [06:56] My neck moves to the side as I rotate my shoulders, So, I reminded myself over and over again, (gentle electronic music) [07:12] targeting everything from my spine and my hips I progressively added more tension. and then eventually moved up to 90%. [07:25] you do BJJ, you're a dancer, you're a yogi, having greater joint function like no other form of training that I've seen. [07:41] that just means you're a stronger human being. isn't huge from day one to day 30, and I'm doing a much better job at isolating each movement.
