# I Tried Mobility Stretching for 30 Days

> Source: [I Tried Mobility Stretching for 30 Days](https://youtube.com/watch?v=RmjHyFM525Q)

## Summary

The video documents a 30-day mobility training journey guided by a mobility coach. It explores techniques like CARS and Pails and Rails to improve joint strength and range of motion, highlighting the difference between mobility and flexibility. The experience reveals that mobility training is joint-specific strength training, not just stretching.

### Key Points

- **Introduction to Mobility Training** [00:14] — Mobility training is helping thousands live without pain and reclaim full range of motion.
- **Motivation for the Challenge** [00:57] — Inspired by a viral video of Olympic-style lifts, the creator decided to try mobility training.
- **Mobility vs Flexibility** [01:27] — Mobility is joint-specific strength training, focusing on strengthening muscles at mid-ranges and connective tissue, unlike flexibility which is about muscle length.
- **CARS (Controlled Articular Rotations)** [02:31] — CARS involve moving a joint through its full range of motion while isolating the rotation, often neglected in typical training.
- **Day 1 Reaction** [03:13] — The creator expected more stretching but found CARS to be challenging, revealing imbalances.
- **50-Minute Knee Mobility Class** [04:08] — The class focuses on knee joint range of motion, with emphasis on avoiding overcompensation.
- **Pails and Rails Technique** [04:35] — Pails involve rotating the joint into a range; Rails involve initiating force in the opposing direction.
- **Soreness from New Movements** [05:16] — Soreness in muscles not typically worked, indicating the exercises target different areas.
- **Key Advice: Start Right** [06:28] — Regardless of activity, proper technique from the start prevents overcompensation.
- **Progressive Tension** [07:12] — Tension was gradually increased from low to 90% during exercises.
- **30-Day Progress** [07:41] — Improvement in joint isolation and body awareness, though not dramatic, is realistic and positive.

### Conclusion

The 30-day mobility training showed noticeable improvements in joint isolation and awareness, proving that mobility is a gradual process requiring consistent practice rather than quick results.

and it shows. (knuckles and neck crack) of our sedentary lifestyles. and it's helping thousands of people live without pain,
and reclaim the body's full range of motion. and to see how much progress I could make This video is sponsored by Squarespace, more on them later.
I can do this, this, and this. but even with these remarkable accomplishments,
I'm feeling more aches and pains, that have left me feeling concerned. through a viral video of you doing Olympic style lifts
What were you trying to say with that video? One day I was on social media, and I was on my newsfeed, like, X mark/check mark certain movement patterns
And, you can get like a check mark. on how to train various positions and ranges of motion, "This range is completely bad for you, It's dangerous.
to your daily life, and in sports. I'll let you guess why, is a mobility coach - Mobility training, at least in the form that we do it
It's really about joint-specific strength training. it's primarily about strengthening muscles at mid-ranges of motion, whereas in mobility,
the joints and the connective tissue. dysfunction, limitations, imbalances. and resilient body if we strengthen our areas of weakness.
an entire program for me to get me through the next 30 days. I've had in the past, like my knees and ankles, Today is day one of mobility training.
(rhythmic strumming) It stands for controlled articular rotations. through its full range of motion
and awareness of the movement itself, isolating the rotation of your neck, shoulders, hips, elbows, wrists, knees, ankles, and even your toes,
a range of motion that's often neglected This is the baseline of a lot of mobility programs, flexibility, and overall movement.
That was much different than I thought it would be. that it was gonna be more stretching. Clearly, I have a lot of work to do.
to my morning routine. over the course of about 15 minutes. It started to gimme greater awareness
I noticed the imbalance of flexibility And, it also gave me an effective way to loosen up my body But, as I learned this was just one small part
I realized there was a lot more to it. Okay, I'm gonna jump into a 50-minute mobility class now, (air whips)
and today I'm gonna be working out my knees. through its full range of motion. With this one, it's actually really easy to overcompensate,
so you really need to try to focus on that knee joint. I'll rotate my knee and place a few books under my foot
it's onto Pails and Rails, So, for my pails rotation, into these books here, rotating at the knee.
For rails, you initiate force in the opposing direction. Liftoffs, similar to Pails and Rails,
After a few more of these exercises, we finish off with more CARS rotations, than we had at the start of the class.
I thought there was no way I could possibly feel soreness I'm in a little bit of pain. that I haven't actually worked out those muscles
One thing that I've been working on a lot lately by updating my website. Okay, that pun was a bit of a stretch.
I've been using them for over a decade to build they handle all the technical backend stuff and their platform makes it so easy to publish new content.

down below this video that helps to support my channel. My legs are killing me. My favorite advice I've gotten so far about mobility
Regardless of what new activity we're getting into, right from the start. but that usually leads to overcompensation.
My neck moves to the side as I rotate my shoulders, So, I reminded myself over and over again, (gentle electronic music)
targeting everything from my spine and my hips I progressively added more tension. and then eventually moved up to 90%.
you do BJJ, you're a dancer, you're a yogi, having greater joint function like no other form of training that I've seen.
that just means you're a stronger human being. isn't huge from day one to day 30, and I'm doing a much better job at isolating each movement.
but it's realistic, and it's a step in the right direction If you wanna learn more about mobility training And, if you like this video, then please subscribe.
