## Summary

The video discusses the demolition of Akira Toriyama's Bird Studio, the home where he created Dragon Ball, and speculates on the reasons behind it. The creator dismisses inheritance tax as a likely cause due to timing and suggests tourism-related issues or lack of corporate support as more plausible factors.

### Key Points

- **Bird Studio Demolition** [00:02] — Akira Toriyama's home and studio, Bird Studio, where Dragon Ball was created, is being demolished in Japan, sparking concern about the preservation of his legacy.
- **Toriyama's Cultural Impact** [00:16] — Toriyama is described as a legendary and historical figure whose work influenced manga, anime, and global culture, affecting hundreds of millions or billions of people.
- **No Official Reason** [01:14] — There is no official clarification for the demolition, leading to speculation with two main theories: inheritance tax and tourism-related issues.
- **Inheritance Tax Theory** [01:42] — The inheritance tax theory suggests the family must pay taxes on the property, but the creator notes the tax must be paid within 10 months of death, and Toriyama passed away over 10 months ago, making this unlikely.
- **Tourism Theory** [03:16] — The tourism theory posits that fans visiting the site could cause damage or disturbances, and since the house isn't a historical site, the family bears the cost of maintenance and security, possibly leading to demolition to prevent issues.
- **Corporate Responsibility** [05:05] — The creator argues that companies like Shueisha and Bandai Namco, which profit billions from Dragon Ball, should financially support preserving the property, calling it 'shameful' if they don't.
- **Implications for Other Creators** [06:28] — The demolition raises concerns about the future preservation of other creators' homes, like Eiichiro Oda's, and the broader issue of not preserving historical cultural sites.
- **Emotional Impact** [07:20] — Toriyama's former editor expressed sadness, noting that the place where his characters and works were born is disappearing, emphasizing the emotional loss.

### Conclusion

The demolition of Bird Studio highlights a lack of preservation for cultural landmarks, with speculation pointing to tourism or corporate neglect rather than inheritance tax. The creator urges reflection on how society values and protects the legacies of influential figures.

## Transcript

and studio where he created the legendary manga series Dragon Ball is being destroyed? Like what do you mean that the actual home is not preserved as a historical site? Like okay, like I'm getting ahead of myself. We need to
really talk about this for a second. Akira Toriyama is a legendary figure. I think probably it wouldn't be too farfetched to say he's a historical figure in the 21st century. He has crafted one of the most legendary pieces
of work that has affected not just manga and anime, but culture itself around the world, affecting probably hundreds of millions and maybe even billions of people because of just the impact of Dragon Ball itself. And the fact that
the studio, Bird Studio, his home that he used to craft these manga, like Dragon Ball for example, is being demolished within Japan. It really makes me just wonder why. You would think that someone that has honestly just done so
much, they would try to preserve such a legendary figure's legacy, his home, his estate, everything around him because of just his very meaning and the pillar to what manga and shownen jump was. Shuisha, Bandai Namco, and everything.
But it seems like they're just allowing it to get demolished and shut down. Now, this current time there is no clarification to exactly why Bird Studio
aka Kira Toriyama's house is being demolished, but we can only speculate at this time and there is two big reasons for it which I'm going to get into both. First off, the big ongoing conversation of why Bird Studio and uh the building
that Akira Toriyama used before his passing to create iconic legendary series like Dragon Ball, for example, is being demolished is because of inheritance tax. Now, I'm going to be honest, I didn't really know too much
hearing the name tax on it, I was like, "Wait a minute, you're telling me inheritance is being taxed?" I was like, "Of course it is." But anyways, I did this doesn't mean I know everything about it and all that. I'm not going to
act like I do. But doing a little bit of research, basically it means that the site, for instance, Bird Studio, the uh the home of Akira Toriyama, it's not the home of Akira Toriyama, it's not classified as a um like a a historical
historical site. And so, it's up to the people, for instance, the family of Akira Toriyama to pay the tax and all that for the the house. And if they don't pay it, then obviously that means that uh that the house either needs to,
do something basically either give over the land or something. Now, once again, I I I I have a very very bare very bare minimum understanding of inheritance tax the thing. The inheritance tax is supposed to be paid within 10 months
after the passing of Akira Toriyama when they receive it. So I I don't think I need to iterate this but Akira Toriyama has been dead for way longer than 10 months. So those saying that this is inheritance tax that is causing this I
think are probably wrong. Now as I said I have bare minimum understanding of from what I can cross check from multiple different things it's within 10 months. So the point here is is I don't think it's because of some form of taxes
and stuff that is causing it. Now there is another argument another side that people have brought up and that is tourism. So Akira Toriyama obviously tourism. So Akira Toriyama obviously legendary man and with his studio
there would be a lot of people that would even go to Japan for example to visit his home just to at least take a picture of it. And as you can see there is people that have visited near his home and they have like placed like a
figure of Goku for example and took a picture of it. And obviously we know how tourism is and how people can be and how they can get rowdy and even destroy historical sites and monuments if you know they're not maintained and upkeep.
And since technically the actual house itself is not classified by Japan as a government probably isn't maintaining and upkeeping everything with the house, which means it's up to the family to be able to maintain and make sure the house
is a-okay. So, the point I'm getting at is is I don't think it's inheritance tax because obviously there might be getting onto the property and doing
things they shouldn't do because let's be honest, this is the 2020s and we have will do for a little bit of clout, a little bit of, you know, viewership online with streams and stuff. And it wouldn't really surprise me if there's
already been attempts by people to go onto Akira Toriyama's property and basically do pictures or sneak in and take pictures of where he was making Dragon Ball or something. So, them wanting to demolish the house in a way
could be to just stop that from happening to begin with because it might be costing the family a lot to just have security on the house, especially since, like I said, it's not classified as a historical monument. Now, this gets into
the next big detail. The big thing here is is regardless if it's historical or not, you would think that Bandai Namco and Chuisha would offer some form of monetary money to the family to, you know, the family to upkeep the property.
expect. And this is something that I think DBZ Emmeran actually talks about pretty well is that like you know a franchise that is worth billions and he's very correct on this. You know it is shameful that Shuisha and Bandai are
attempting to save the property. Now I do want to clarify we don't know if behind closed doors. We don't know exactly the full cause of why it's being shut down. It's up to speculation. But the point here is is that there is a
possibility if it was money reasons why the family is closing the doors and shutting down the property, demolishing it completely. something. They could have because obviously the amount of money that Akira
Toriyama has made them is astronomical. I mean he's still making them money. He is still making the money even after his passing. You would think that they would do the bare minimum of trying to upkeep his property if it was some form of
money reasons. Now, to be fair, the family could have denied the money or something for all we know and maybe that's why it's led to this. Once again, have no idea. But the point here is is that there is a lot of mysteries, a lot
of gray areas with this, but you would think that would just how legendary of a figure he is. They would want to make this as, like I said, a historical site. And if something like this can happen to, for example, Akira Toriyama, what do
Oda? Oda that writes One Piece. Like, are they going to let his house and his property get destroyed? The the area that he constructed One Piece in, are they going to allow his home to get destroyed years after his passing? I
mean, if they can allow this to happen to Akira Toriyama, then that could obviously happen to Oda, for example. and just like what do you mean you're not trying to preserve these historical moments throughout history? I just it's
wild to me honestly. But uh yeah, I just I wanted to talk about this. I thought I wanted to talk about this. I thought this was very sad to see. And um like I said, we don't have a lot of context to exactly why. But I mean you even have
editors like the previous editor like you know to uh Toriima actually talking it's like man I visit this place once a characters and works were born is disappearing. So, he's really gone. It's
depressing because it's like every character in Dragon Ball pretty much was crafted it there and that's getting destroyed. Like what what do you mean? Like just I I'll leave it at that. I just I wanted
was pretty interesting news. I don't know how many people care about it, but Koreava's works and seeing something like this kind of it irks me honestly. You think that they would try any avenue they possibly could to preserve it, but
doesn't seem like they're trying. But until we get the true disclosure of what it is, and we might not ever get that, then I guess we're left in the dark leave it at that. If you enjoy my content, please subscribe, leave a like
