[00:01] myself five lessons before I ever made my first sports bet, these would be sports betting, I did what almost everyone does. I watched highlight videos, I listened to handicappers, spent hours researching games, and [00:16] honestly just thought that I knew enough about sports to be a profitable sports better. I couldn't have been more wrong. And after using Odds Jam and learning sharp betting strategies, my outlook on sports betting completely changed. I [00:30] realized that profitable sports betting has almost nothing to do with being able to predict games correctly, and more to do with setting up the math in your favor long term. After using Odds Jam and completely changing my betting [00:44] approach, I realized that profitable sports betting had almost nothing to do with predicting games better than everyone else. So, today I want to share the five biggest lessons that Odds Jam has taught me that completely changed my [00:57] come in no particular order, but every single one of these has made me a better better. So, let's start with one that I probably resisted the most. And that's the reality that you do need multiple sports books. When I first heard people [01:12] say you need to be betting with multiple sports books, I honestly thought that was extremely overrated. I was perfectly happy using the one app that I was most comfortable with. And during college, that would have been DraftKings. Then I [01:24] truly learned what line shopping meant. You see, one sports book could be offering an NBA player to go over 18 and 1/2 points at minus 110 odds, while another has that exact same bet at minus 140. Sometimes one sports book is going [01:38] to have a line price significantly better than the rest of the market. If you're only using your one sports book, you're missing out on that value 100% of the time. And taking a bet at minus 110 versus minus 140 might not seem like a [01:52] huge deal, but over the course of hundreds of bets, when you're consistently getting a better number, your profits are going to add up a lot over time. Now, getting a bet at minus 110 versus minus 140 might not seem like [02:05] a huge deal, but over hundreds of bets, that makes a massive difference. Sharp the winners. They're trying to get the best number every single time. And Odds Jam made me realize that sportsbooks disagree with each other a lot more than [02:20] I thought. And every disagreement can create a ton of value for you as a better. And there's another major benefit to having multiple sportsbooks. You see, every single sportsbook is competing for your business. So, [02:32] therefore, they offer you a nice welcome offer or deposit match bonus to join in your state or area that you haven't signed up for yet, you're leaving money on the table because you're not opting into those deposit match bonuses that [02:46] you can turn into guaranteed cash. Even if you're not planning on using a certain sportsbook long-term, converting their bonus money up front into guaranteed cash can drastically build your bankroll. Now, onto lesson number [02:58] four. A top-down betting approach beats a bottom-up approach. And this is the lesson that saved me the most time. When I first started sports betting, I would spend hours and hours researching games. I'd look at recent games, injuries, home [03:12] and away splits, how a player did in their last [clears throat] five, 10, 25 games. Then one day I asked myself, do I really think that the billion-dollar sportsbooks aren't looking at these direct stats that I'm looking at? Have [03:27] they not already accounted for every bit of information that I could possibly research? Of course, they have. They know everything that I knew. So, instead of starting with research, sharp bettors start with the market. They look at [03:41] where value is. They look at what sportsbooks disagree on the price of a certain line. And that's why my workflow now starts by looking at tools like the Odds Jam Sharp Money Tool, Positive EV screen, and Fantasy Optimizer. Instead [03:55] of countless hours of researching stats to try to predict a player prop or a game where the sports book already has all the information I'm looking at. So, instead of using a bottom-up approach where you're analyzing stats to come to [04:08] a conclusion, simply use a top-down approach where you're looking for market inefficiencies. Over the long run, you're going to make significantly more profits finding market inefficiencies than you are analyzing stats that sports [04:21] books have already baked into their lines. A top-down approach is faster, it's smarter, and honestly, you'll make a lot more money doing that. Lesson number three, you can profit with whatever resources you have available. [04:35] This one really hit home because I live in California, a state that doesn't have traditional sports books like DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetMGM. When I first started watching betting content online, I'd see people crushing the big [04:47] >> [snorts] >> and I felt like I couldn't achieve these same profits because I live in a state that doesn't have these books available. But, that mindset that I had was completely wrong. You see, some states [05:00] have sports books, some have daily fantasy sports apps, some are lucky enough to have both. The important thing is learning how to maximize what you do have available. For me, that was focusing almost entirely on daily [05:13] fantasy sports apps. And once I started researching the best strategies on DFS apps, I started using the OddsJam Fantasy Optimizer and Sharp Money Tool to absolutely crush them. I learned I needed to stop worrying about success [05:27] other people were having on platforms that I couldn't use, and instead just focus in on what I have available and find the best, most profitable strategies. So, don't let your location be an excuse. There are sharp betting [05:39] strategies for every single type of book out there. If you're in a sports betting only state, you can research strategies like arbitrage betting and positive EV betting. And if you're in a DFS only state like me, you can research how to [05:51] profit off of these apps using similar strategies that are tailored to those books. So, figure out what resources you have available, master them, and gain an edge. Don't let your location be a limiting factor to making massive [06:05] profits in the sports betting world. Now for lesson number two, this one was a shocker to me and I fought it for the longest time. Volume is your friend when it comes to sports betting. When I first started sports betting, I wanted to find [06:18] the five absolute best plays every single day. I thought if I researched enough and I worked hard enough, I could avoid losing bets altogether. I think this is a mindset that most every sports better has had at some point. And now, [06:32] I've learned to realize that's just not how sharp better's think. Here's an easy way to think about it. Imagine if I offered you a coin that lands on heads 55% of the time. Would you flip it five times or 500 times? Well, of course you [06:46] would flip it 500 times because you know if it lands on heads 55% of the time, you'd rather win 55% of the time over the course of 500 bets versus over the course of five bets. You want to maximize your edge and that concept [07:01] holds true in sports betting. So, if you can find 20 or 30 bets with positive expected value in a single day, why would you not take every single one of those bets? When you have an edge in sports betting, you want to maximize it [07:14] as often as possible. Because even if you're betting with an edge, it doesn't guarantee that every single bet is going to hit. So, you would rather maximize your edge over hundreds and thousands of bets than one to five bets per day. [07:28] Sharp sports bettors are not trying to go undefeated. They're trying to make as many good bets with an edge as possible because they know that's how long-term profit is created. And now lesson number one and this was a massive mindset shift [07:42] for myself and for thousands of sports bettors out there. You do not need to be get into sports betting, the first thing they do is look for someone to follow. Who's selling picks? Who's got the lock of the day? Who's the hottest [07:57] handicapper on the market? The problem with this is you're depending on somebody else instead of just learning sharp betting strategies on your own. The best bettors in the world have learned to think for themselves. Odds [08:09] Jam taught me it is much better to understand why a bet is good than to blindly copy someone else's card. Once you understand line shopping, expected value, sharp money, and how sports betting actually works, you don't need [08:23] You're making your own decisions based off of data instead of social media differences between recreational sports bettors and sharp sports bettors. One [08:35] group buys picks, the other group learns a process. And the best part about it is There's not just some elite group of sports bettors that are the only ones who can learn this process. Anybody can learn how to become a sharp sports [08:49] better if you know where to look. And the process of a sharp sports better will always outlast the hot streak of a handicapper. Those right there are five of the biggest lessons that I've learned from Odds Jam. And honestly, I wish I [09:03] learned them when I first started sports betting. The biggest takeaway is that profitable sports betting is not about predicting games better than everyone else. It's about consistently making better decisions than the average [09:15] better. Once you start thinking like that and start practicing sharp sports everything changes.
