## Summary

In this episode of The Road to Doomsday, hosts Eric and Jessica revisit Avengers: Infinity War (2018) to analyze how it set the template for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. They discuss the Russo brothers' ability to manage multiple character factions, the villainous parallels between Thanos and Doctor Doom, and the structural lessons that can be applied to the new film.

### Key Points

- **Initial Reactions to Infinity War** [02:12] — Hosts share memories of seeing Infinity War in 2018, including the shocking ending where Thanos wins and half of all life is dusted.
- **Infinity War as Blueprint for Doomsday** [06:01] — Infinity War is deemed the most relevant film yet for Doomsday due to its handling of multiple hero factions and a central villain who wins.
- **Thanos's Early Dominance** [07:39] — The opening scene establishes Thanos's strength by having him defeat the Hulk and kill Loki, setting the stakes for the entire film.
- **Character Faction Breakdown** [09:43] — The film splits heroes into several groups: Titan group (Stark, Strange, Parker), Guardians split (Thor, Rocket, Groot vs. Quill, Gamora, Drax, Mantis), Wakanda group (Cap, Widow, Falcon, Vision, Wanda).
- **Theme of Sacrifice** [14:08] — The Avengers' principle of 'we don't trade lives' contrasts with Thanos's willingness to sacrifice anyone, leading to his success.
- **Applying Infinity War's Structure to Doomsday** [28:00] — Doomsday will feature similar faction dynamics: OG Avengers, new Avengers (Thunderbolts), Fantastic Four, and X-Men, requiring similar balancing.
- **Doctor Doom vs. Thanos** [47:25] — While Thanos was a cosmic threat with no personal ties, Doctor Doom has connections to characters like Reed Richards, making the conflict more personal.
- **Russo Brothers' Greatest Skill** [56:45] — The Russo brothers excel at 'strange alchemy'—synthesizing disparate characters into a cohesive story, a skill crucial for Doomsday.
- **Box Office Success** [58:22] — Infinity War earned $257 million domestic opening weekend and over $2 billion worldwide, setting a high bar for Doomsday.

### Conclusion

Infinity War remains a masterclass in ensemble storytelling, and its structure provides a clear blueprint for Avengers: Doomsday. With the Russo brothers at the helm, there is cautious optimism that they can replicate or even exceed the success of their earlier Avengers films.

We have lots of great episodes to check out, but you're definitely going to want to get seated for this one because when Doctor Strange used the time stone to look into the future, you know the real future that he saw was one of Doom. Of
the ones we talked about, Infinity War is the most relevant yet for Doomsday. The Russo brothers are the best in the sandbox that the MCU has. They are able to get so much more unique synthesis out of combining these pieces in ways that
Coming up with great surprises, great strange alchemy. They're the best at that. And I think Doomsday can deliver. Feige, what did it cost? Everything. as in $500 million or so to bring back
Marvel Studios from the brink in Avengers Doomsday and kind of recreate the magic of Avengers Infinity War. Yes, Eric and Jess here talking about 2018's Avengers Infinity War, the climactic
It's really the movie that the Russo brothers have as a blueprint for Avengers Doomsday. They know this is a part of a two-part event, and they know cliffhanger where the villain ends. Uh, it's going to be a movie that combines
many different factions of Avengers and Marvel heroes to face one huge threat. Last time it was Thanos. This time it's Dr. Doom. We're going to revisit the Thanos example. The movie that really just blew everyone away with how well
the Russo brothers made it work. Uh, Avengers Infinity War 2018. Let's [ __ ] go. It's Comic-Con Saturday. >> Ooh, same time? >> Um,
>> Sling Rings. Sling rings. Sling rings is always the answer. Good to see you, >> I'm so excited and I'm so Wait, you didn't ask that, but I'm excited and I'm >> Yeah, Infinity War. What's your memory of seeing Infinity War back in 2018?
for a very long time and I did not use the bathroom once. Um, it was between seeing this and seeing um Quinn Tarantino's Hollywood >> End Game. That was Endgame. That was End Game. It was Endgame cuz I ended up
first and then seeing Endgame because I was like there's too many people in the the second week I went. [laughter] >> Yeah. I think 2018 was before you and I sketch together the next year? >> Oh, no. You're right. No, it was. Yes.
>> Maybe it was late 2018. This came out in like April. >> Yeah, it came out the end of April. post summer. >> Yeah. Yeah. So, uh, I remember seeing
this movie with New Rockstars editor Devin Clearary. Um, we we saw it at the Arklight Hollywood. Uh, we we were shocked. Uh, it was we were kind of actually pulled the trigger and dusted half of the people. Um, it it started
kind of like a real like hot streak of new rock stars as like a Marvel YouTube channel. like this period after Infinity War leading up to Doom, leading up to Endgame, we were just we started just pumping out theory videos because we
questions about like what was Doctor Strange's plan? Who are the Black Order? How did they come to meet Thanos? Who else dusted in this universe? What would life? And the fact that we were asking all those questions and coming up with
answers to them really just kind of like branded New Rockstars as like the like our most successful 12 months I think that we've ever had. Maybe it was >> It was a big year. >> Um so um we're grateful to the Rooster
Brothers for for making that movie as great as it was and it's really really great as it was and it's really really fun to revisit. Um I remember um uh the marketing for it was insane. Uh we'll get into the full marketing of it, but
like this was a movie where like spoilers were critical. like you really had to be careful about leaks. Even uh like Tom Holland couldn't avoid spoiling the movie happened and said, "I'm alive." And people hadn't seen the movie
yet. [laughter] Like that was insane. Uh and then Ruffalo with Don Cheetel at the previous summer's uh D23, I believe it was, or Comic-Con said like, "Wait till you do this next one. Half everyone dies." And then Ruff or Cheetah was
still out there." And like literally 6 months or no almost a year before this ending. So it was very funny. >> It was up to Don Cheetel to use his funny, dude." Instead instead of being like, "Dude, you could have been like
going to get fired." >> Yeah. Yeah. Of course, Donito was like, "My life's on the line. You're at least Hulk. [laughter] I'm Roie. Dude, please. replacement of someone else." >> They they almost killed me in the last
>> They almost KILLED ME. [laughter] THEY MIGHT make me a scroll if we're not >> Please shut up. Do not let me do interviews with him or Tom Holland ever >> U But it did. We did have a lot of fun interviews with Tom Holland and Benedict
Cumberbatch. They paired these two together on the on the press circuit for it. It was just very fun to see these two English actors with the elder your mouth before you rub. >> Please be quiet. We learned this back in
the theater. We learned this back in the arts. Shut the [ __ ] up." [laughter] lot to discuss for Infinity War and specifically what lessons the Russoa Doomsday. I think this might I keep saying it, this is the most relevant
one, but of the ones we talked about, Infinity War is the most relevant yet will also be super relevant, but let's talk about Infinity War. Uh, so Infinity War, Avengers Infinity War, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, written by
Christopher Marcus, Steven Mcily. It was released on April 27th, 2018. Infinity War picks up shortly after the events of the Thor Ragnarok postredit scene with Thor and Loki and Heimdoll all on the Statesman craft that left uh the ruins
of Asgard. And now they've been approached by the sanctuary to Thanos's ship with Thanos and the Black Order. Um there we hear uh a rescue call by Kenneth Brana as an Asgardian uh just saying uh we we've lost and half of
these Asgardians have already been killed. As the mad titan Thanos steps forward, looming massively over Thor. Heindal has already been killed. And he Heindal has already been killed. And he basically says, "I've I know how you're
feeling. I've experienced failure." That kind of feeling the legs turning to jelly. Oh, what a terrifying speech. Uh the Black Order is there, too. You know, Ebony Ma, Call Obsidian, Proxima Midnight, Corvvis Glaive is the other
>> He's the one married to Proxima Midnight. the one that was in Secret Invasion. >> Remember they like uh showed the people's like bits that were left behind after Infinity War and it was like his
>> Yeah, maybe. Yes, I think so. I think it was his bit. Um so they all serve Thanos. Uh and then there's this great fight where Hulk comes out and just gets boxed >> and his ass beat by Thanos. And that is
like the first time we've seen like Hulk truly KO'ed, not through any kind of like Stark neck technology or anything like that. Like Hulk gets knocked out Doll's dead and that's shocking. There's so many deaths right away. Um and then
Thanos destroys the tesseract that Loki presents uh to reveal the space stone beneath it. And poor Loki dies as well. So right away Thanos has already had two and the space stone in his gauntlet. It's terrifying. Luckily, Heimdoll is
able to blast Hulk to Earth via the Bifrost. But this whole idea of Loki most heartbreaking of them. Um, like opening scene, Heimdoll and Loki dying. once again, brother. A promise that hopefully Doomsday will fulfill, right?
two characters finally reunite. >> He can't really do anything. He has to >> Loki. Yeah, he's got to stay. >> You got to stay over there. Actually, >> Don't let go of any of those. let go of any of those goddamn strands, I will sw
I I swear to God, Loki, one job now. One job. there'll be billions of lives. >> A lot of people will die. Yeah, he will be another Thanos situation. >> Um, so, uh, Hulk/ Bruce just blasts
through the cosmos and lands right in the sanctum sanctorum where Doctor Strange and Wong find him. Uh, and he warns them that Thanos is coming. They find, uh, Tony Stark jogging with Pepper Potts in Central Park. Tony's talking
daughter named Morgan, which is something that gets fulfilled in Avengers Endgame. Um, but now the Black Order arrives to New York and their target is the time stone in Doctor Strange's uh necklace. We get this great
speech from Wong explaining what the Infinity Stones are. Kind of an from Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 1 where he talks about there were six singularities that formed during the Big Bang. Uh, and he kind of officially
names what the the six are in the Captain Planet style variety. Um, but then they all confront in uh, New York City. Peter Parker's arm hairs go up as
his Spidey Spidey sense is uh, tingled on his way to a a field trip and then joins the Frey. Tony Stark calls Ebony Mosqu Squidward. It's a lot of fun. Uh, Banner is unable to summon Hulk. Hulk, feeling so much shame from getting his
ass beat, cannot come out to play in this movie. Uh, the Black Order takes Strange into their spacecraft because he's not able to just remove the time that Doctor Strange has put over it. Uh, Tony powers up in his new nanotech armor
to go chase them. Peter has a new spider armor, finally putting on the armor that Homecoming, and joins them. And they're all going to space. So, that's one faction. We got Steven, Tony, and Peter all on the Q ship with Ebony Ma headed
back to Titan. Uh, meanwhile, the Guardians of the Galaxy show up in this the now destroyed ice guardianship and smack into Thor. Thor and Gamora are able to talk about what exactly Thanos is, what his backstory is. We find out
that Gamora, her whole ziller people were killed by Thanos and his forces in little dagger that he bounces on his weirdly mystified by Thor's Asgardian body. Um, Drax is very complimentary.
Peter Quill is very upset at how much attention this space pirate is getting. Navalier. He's got to craft a new weapon to fight Thanos. And Rocket Raccoon's like, I'm in. And Teenage Groot, as he now is, is also in. Meanwhile,
Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, and Mantis are going to head to nowhere to keep Thanos we, as we saw in the postredit scene of Thor the Dark World, that's where the ether was transported. So, on Earth, Wanda Maximoff and Vision uh are
basically feeling each other to use their words as they're in Edinburg, another contingent of the Black Order who are looking to pry the mind stone from Vision's forehead. Uh, and the Black Order nearly gets. Corvvis Glaive
just kind of prize it in there. But Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanov and uh, Sam Wilson Falcon arrive to join the fight. They've been on the run since the events of Captain America: Civil War, and now this faction of Avengers is
reunited. U, meanwhile, back in space, the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive to nowhere and find out that Thanos already has the reality stone. Oh, uh, Benio Del Toro does amazing little cameo there, waving. He's part of an illusion at this
everywhere. The reality stone only gets to be deployed in such interesting ways, used in more horrific ways in this movie. It takes the form of bubbles in movie. It takes the form of bubbles in the form of toys and um you know, he
could have turned them into just like >> Yeah, he could have messed with them >> He could have pulled a what was his name in um Spider-Man, Jake Gyllenhaal's have pulled a Mysterio and just made them go crazy.
>> Yeah. He could have made them think that their own skin is spiders for like the could have stopped them. Um, also the reality stone seems to have temporary permanent. I don't understand why it's not permanent. Maybe it's proximity
based. Seems to be proximity based. >> Maybe a Gamora pleads with Peter Quill extract the location of the soul stone from her, but Thanos turns his gun into bubbles. Like Peter was going to do it. Like it's a heartbreaking moment there.
Um, meanwhile at Avengers Campus, Roodie is there. Uh, he's talking to Thaddius Ross and uh, Steve, Natasha, and Falcon and Vision and Wanda all walk up and >> "Are them please. >> You're wanted."
>> And then basically Roie just swipes the call over and he goes, "That's a court marshal." Uh, this is when Bruce finds out that there's both an Ant-Man and a news to him because he's been off worlds on Ragnarok the whole time.
um they find out about the Mindstone and they talk about, you know, should we Vision's life? Because Vision's like, "Hey, I've had a good run. I've gotten to eat some pepper cash in Avengers Campus. We've seen Edinburgh. Um I saw
that booth where JK Rowling wrote the first draft of Sorcerer Stone Ser." And he's like, "I'm good. I'm good." And they're like, "No, no, we don't trade it exactly like that. But that's the theme uh that the Avengers cling to in
this movie is we don't trade lives. That's not how we go. And because Thanos is willing to trade lives in this movie, that's why he succeeds. This idea of >> I think also an important theme that's going to be revisited in Doomsday. This
idea of one one hero's life over another. No, we can have an abundance mindset. Uh Thanos is an anti-abundance mindset. He believes that he has an a Malthusian principle of like fewer mouths to feed feed means the rest of us
don't go starving. >> Um the the Avengers probably if they had let's just double the amount of food that exists around like let's double the populate. Like I don't understand why that's but I think Thanos just he's
wrong thinking this way. I think he just I think he hates crowds. I think he's [laughter] >> Yeah. people. someone who like if he were to live in a crowded North Hollywood neighborhood, he
>> dude. Yeah, he probably would. >> He probably would. Rather than just be like, "Hey, you could just move to Wyoming and have like an acre or two for problem. >> Yeah, I [laughter] know. Um, so this
that's going to be the dinner that the Avengers have to eat at the end of this space while this is happening over on Titan actually on the Black Order spaceship. Uh Tony and Peter rescue Strange and you know there's there's
almost gets like these daggers poked into his face. Peter gets kned as an decided to take the fight to Thanos and they're quickly joined by the Guardians. Uh and this is where we get to the why is Gamora quote a wonderful little
moment of all these characters just from different walks of life in the MCU just was the moment when I first watched it, I'm like, "Oh, it's amazing how Marcus and Mcily and the Russos just made this feel so natural and smooth." And that is
kind of like Marvel Studios at its peak. Like when they've had these different directors crafting these characters just with the right amount of humor, every character is being true to themselves and it just works. It's great.
>> Since Civil War, it was only like a bonus to add someone like Doctor Strange and more of Wakanda and Black Panther. Those two are like the voice of reasons Guardians are just comedic relief. >> Yeah. [laughter]
>> Meanwhile, we get what's effectively the sea plot of this movie as Thor, Rocket, and Groot go to Navalier where they find Peter Dinklage as Etri Nitlier is the great armory of the different realms and it has been wrecked by Thanos. But uh
they work with Etri to restart the forge and they have this specific mold for a weapon, a godkilling weapon that Etri calls Stormbreaker. Of course, the hammer, the battle axe used by um Beter Ray Bill in the comics. Um there's a lot
of like this almost feels like a spiritual successor or rather a Guardians of the Galaxy 2.5 because there's a lot in this movie where it's Thanos, Gamora, and Nebula. Like re-watching both this and Endgame like
the Russo brothers devote a lot of time to these characters and give give Nebula >> Well, that's because James Gun started it. Yeah. So it's like if you start if you're building if you're the catalyst for the stones in for the Infinity War
of all or for the uh what do they call the whatever phase that >> but then you're also the man that leads the Guardians you're going to you're going to be the the main part like every
Nebula and Gamora when you talk about Thanos no matter what like those two picture because one has to die to get a stone and one was just there for every part of the mission. Um it it it gets more convoluted in Endgame for sure.
[laughter] >> Certainly multiple Nebula is the only person not afraid to kill herself. Uh like there's Yeah. And without the Guardians,
we'll talk about with Endgame. It's wild that we cut away from the Battle of Earth in Endgame to just these scenes with like two different nebulas. It's it like twice. They do it enough that I was like, "Oh, yeah. There's two
Gamoras, two Nebulas. One Gammora is dead, so it's easier to track this one, me up because they're using the memory bank of the other nebula to figure out >> Yeah. I mean, they devote It's like a proper Dtory line in Avengers Endgame
multiple times throughout the movie. And I think that just goes to I we'll sidetrack a little bit here. The Russo brothers are not the kind of Marvel directors who are just kind of have these obligatory appearances by Marvel
characters the way Valkyrie just shows up in the Marvels. No. Yeah. They every like character that they use in their stories has their own arc. to see how they were able to take these characters that like I mean nothing
these characters in what was kind of a heist plot for the orb in Guardians of introduce more dimension to the characters in Guardians of the Galaxy were able to bring as much dimension to Nebula and Gamora in Infinity War. And
all these other Marvel characters. >> Again, I think they work really well in >> Yeah, if you give them if you give them the like all the tools, if you give them make something better than IKEA furniture. [laughter] They just need
they just need that that it's not a con. I just need them. They just need the You them. >> So Thanos all tortures Nebula. We got this great shot where we see it looks like and then they they pan around her
and her body is separated out uh like these human body exhibits that you see these human body exhibits that you see in Vegas. And it's just it's horrible to see her go through this. And Gamora has to watch it. And he does this to force
soul stone. The soul stone is on the planet Vormier. And here in Bormier is the one character that you could say is like the random Marvel cameo. Red Skull comes back. He's now voiced by Ross Markwan because Hugo Weaving's like I'm
>> I'm coming to be a boy. Yeah, I'm solid. >> And Ross Markwond is an amazing impressionist and does a great job. We we get some um ancestry for Thanos where he goes son of Allars implying that Thanos and his brother Star Fox Harry
Styles are the son of Allars and he has to sacrifice something on Vormier in order to get the soul stone. So, of course, Thanos sacrifices Gamora, and time, he's got her dagger poked in his belt, but then when she reaches for it,
it turns to bubbles. The whole time, he has been using the reality stone just to minute out, and she >> and that's also and that's the manipulation, horrible tactic of like a forced father. But it's also just like,
>> look, I don't we I this is the only way I can get you to go. Like, I know you that well. I know you so well, which is already so demented. The Avengers on Earth head to Wakanda where they're greeted by Tchala. Yeah, a
big chunk of this movie is just in the universe that Ryan Cougler made, a movie earlier. Uh, it's the safest place on Earth, arguably. Uh, and they're preparing to keep Thanos's army at bay outside of the dome protecting the city
while Shi tries to separate Vision from the Mind Stone without killing him. Uh, she's like the smartest scientist on Earth. like, "Why didn't you just easier to extract?" And they're like, "Cuz we didn't think of it."
about it. She's just kind of asking like, "Is there a reason why you kind of like strung this together with duct tape and bubblegum?" They're like, "We just >> Also, not not to be this person, but uh you guys closed yourself off from the
know that the leading scientist is in this [ __ ] bubble? have shared your stuff earlier. Maybe we would have been come to you first. We just had to we had to use a Bruce Banner who can't even get his powers to work
and Tony Stark. Like, god forbid, girl. >> We just zapped gamma radiation at this came to life. >> She's like, "Uh, so you made a zombie." you could have helped us, we wouldn't have shared a little bit.
using this. We probably wouldn't HAVE USED THE STONE TO BEGIN WITH." they gave vibranium to these white of Oakland or anywhere else? >> Yeah. No, 100%. But sure, he's not
thinking that way. >> She is now. She is now. She's come >> At the beginning, everyone was like, "I just don't see the problem. These black >> asking for a handout." >> There was, "Oh, and here they go again.
everything on Earth is going on, the other faction of Avengers is on Titan, and they're using Doctor Strange's time stone to look ahead to 14,65 different outcomes. And Doctor Strange, there is one where they defeat Thanos.
So, that's where Thanos arrives now on Titan after getting the soul stone. Uh, and now he's trying to get the time stone from Doctor Strange. There's a Doctor Strange uses the reality stone to show what Titan used to look like. And
questions, Thanos. Why couldn't you just figured there's going to be some dummies who have like 18 kids. >> Well, he probably, you know, how like, >> oh, you're going to have some oligarchs
>> I Well, I know. I think he's like he in the way of like oh I can solve the over here on this planet also suffer from it and people from this planet also people are like hey please don't get involved in our [ __ ] we can figure it
I have to kill a lot of people in the process of doing it. That's how I Stones, you can do kind of like this Reed Richards utopian thing where you have like countless planets where people can just have adequate resources. You
socialist planet for all the people want to live that way. You can have another planet where it's like a cutthroat atlas shrugged capitalist society for people [laughter] You'd be like, this is this is the
to do it, they're not going to do it. So that's why he's taking it away. I'm not saying it's an act of good reason. I'm saying that like, oh, he knows that like >> I mean, he's not even fascist, though. He's just basically like too many
people. He's basically like us when we walk through CityWalk or Downtown Disney or or Time Square or like a parade or we're stuck on the 405 and we're just half of these cars >> because it's it's it's murdering them.
through. He was like, we didn't have enough resources and I see all these help them. I'm going to be their god. I just I'd be curious to know if after culling half of Gamora's people or half of any of these other people, did they
follow up to see if it actually helped them? Because if if the zoo beret were mad at the time, but you know what? substantial. >> It worked really good on Viltro for the
Viltromites. Our kids can all get literally killed the weaker ones and was we're the strongest people in the world. We have less things to have to like >> Right. Right. So if if that works somewhere then okay Thanos snap away.
>> Killing half the half the universe would absolutely help a lot of things. It's not his choice to do it [laughter] AND THAT'S THE PROBLEM. I DON'T GIVE A [ __ ] why the problem is there. >> I I think he has tried all these other
this is step one. Step one we got to call everyone and then step two we can build our little Marxist planet and our and our little and you killed my mom and choose that? Like everyone's like, I have a family. Why did you kill my
>> Maybe his idea is he's the Old Testament God who just basically has a flood on earth to just call away all the wicked and or just but even being fairer, he's >> Yeah. And that's why there's a lot of people that aren't Christian and there's
religions. I'm like, we just would get so mad at him still. We'd be like, "Hey, coin. Get out of here. We're all going to die." As we see in the movies that there are some people peeing in urinal in New York. This is right.
there's a lot of people that were like, "Hey, you guys made the world [ __ ] group of people that are always going to be voting for like any side." mentioning the Flag Smashers, cuz you know, their Google alert finally pinged
>> No. By you mentioning Flag Smashers in the metadata and the the captions of our video. No one's ever talking about the >> Why not? Why did you guys >> Because they're boring. Um, they're the
closest thing to us. So, remember that when you're watching Thor. You're a Flag Smasher. [laughter] >> No, you're not even that. >> Why can't I be Hulk?
>> Is he rich? >> Yes, he was really rich. That's how he got like the the Dorme sword. Like he was he was [laughter] just buying money. have to be like the guy on the whatever
the report, the BB report that's eating pizza and being like, "Yeah, I'm fine [laughter] >> I would be one of those guys hot dog. Yeah, he's doing a good job to anti- vigilante beat up my neighbor. I
>> This is my fear of being a normal citizen in the MCU is there's too much secrets. So, I'm afraid I'll be on the wrong side of history because there's too many secrets. Like I would literally actively probably hate Tony Stark and I
I would hate him as a billionaire and then I'd be like wait a minute you guys didn't know this [ __ ] >> I I think you would just be Mr. Delmare's cat in the bodega. >> You just be sitting sitting on the
>> I'd probably be a villain because I would I'd want money. [laughter] I'd hard way. >> Hey, don't we all? So Thanos gets there. We get this great wizard duel. I love the wizard duel in this movie. I could
another half hour in the wizard duel. Please. There's a black hole. There's shards turning into butterflies. It's delightful. Uh, but Thanos succeeds. He nearly kills Tony Stark. He nearly kills Peter Parker. It's vicious. And Doctor
Strange surrenders the time stone. He kind of had it hidden in the astral background. And he surrenders it to Thanos. And this was a big question we I'm sorry there is no other way. And I
think that's part of the one path to a victorious plan is he has to let Thanos win. He has to concede so that Thanos winning they're able to undo it in a Avengers Doomsday could >> that theme is I think that theme can be
because there is no beating someone taking a bunch of realities apart. Like if we're getting Secret Wars, we know he's going to be successful. So it's to take the L are going to be like we have to just work with what we got. And
from Endgame and Infinity War is what the three main pe or what Steve Rogers They'll be like we lived this before. This is exactly what we have to do. >> Meanwhile, the battle of Wakanda is raging on. We got Tchala shouting Ibon
Bay. Daniel Kuya is nowhere in sight. Uh but is there uh we have uh Cap and we Black Panther's a little bit faster, which makes sense. He was able to outrun
him in Civil War, and he's a panther. Uh, and he's got the heartshaped herb, >> which is probably stronger juice than >> Oh, 100%. I would also rather take the >> rather [laughter] than a medically scientifically produced thing. Give me
Rogers. We'd get all the shitty ones. >> We'd get the bad one that turned us into >> We know what we're doing. The John Walker thing. He did that. He did that. our favorite guy in Doom today did that. Um, and then uh the the fight is raging
on. Roy's using some massive explosions of the war machine armor. It's a lot of together to fight Proxima Midnight. Uh, and at one point Natasha gets her face splattered. Hulk's kind of useless in this fight for most of it cuz he doesn't
armor, but he is able to defeat Call Obsidian, which is pretty helpful. The our feet. The first time we all applauded, maybe the only time we all applauded in this movie, uh Thor arrives with Rocket and with Groot with
Stormbreaker from the Bifrost saying, "Bring me Thanos. The Avengers theme is cooking." It's great. Uh Rocket talks to Bucky. Which we get to see these little "Hey, how much for the arm?" Later says, "I'm going to get that arm."
>> I like He goes, "This is my friend the tree." And he goes, "I am Groot." And >> It's so funny. [laughter] It It just works so well. >> Yeah. They get these little laugh moments, but you know, they're getting
operation's happening. It's getting kind of scary. Uh Thanos arrives and oh [ __ ] Uh because now at this point, Thanos has five out of six Infinity Stones and it's
just basically a death march. They all try to face him one by one. Steve Rogers bit and Thanos is like, "What?" >> And he's getting punched in the face in the face. He should have had his face cracked open. Okay. A piece of me was
like the fact that we saw the damage it took on uh Hulk in Hulk form on the ship. How the hell is he not like ripped to shreds from those hits? a little bit? >> Maybe on like I'm about to snap half of
>> I do think there is that weirdness about Thanos that a lot of us always overlook weird sincerity about humans. Like he it wasn't like they were bugs. It was like even when he goes to Wanda, he's like, "I understand, little one. Like, I lost
why are you consoling her? You're the reason she had to kill her, man." LIKE, NO ONE HAS TO KILL ANYONE HERE EXCEPT FOR you today." And I was like, "Oh, I think he does like have this like, hey, they'll choose which half go, but like I
have been pulling his punches back. >> I mean, he kind of like with when Black Panther jumps up, when Bucky jumps up, he kind of just is like, "Stay in the weeds. I'm just going to tangle you in these uh roots over here. Okay. And then
you'll just, you know, some rocks will just kind of lightly trap you over here. Okay, great. Because he's he's just singularly focused on that mind stone. He goes, Wanda says, "I can feel you." Vision's like, "I can feel you." And she
remember that all these heroes were willing to violate Steve's rule of we don't trade lives. They were willing to sacrifice each other and it didn't matter. Thanos used the time stone uh using the same maneuver that we saw in
terrified of what he could use the time stone to do. And then it is the worst it. >> Reforms an infinity stone which just shows that even the destruction of Infinity Stone can be undone by another
Infinity Stone. Mindboggling. Uh reforms it and then cruy rips it out and makes his Vision's death even more brutal. and again leaves the dead corpse that will
>> Yeah. Turn into White Vision. >> I love that. I will say I love in the aftermath for all the Marvel television shows they did come back and go well of things were cleaned up during these battles. Uh and we use them eventually
they must have had to help. >> I think the Wakandans took everything that was theirs. Um, but then wouldn't it be up to the DODC to him take like [ __ ] >> I mean, technically what's theirs is
they take that corpse? >> Well, that's not that's I would also be like, well, that was still kind of a person to me. I guess I I wouldn't take did not care about these people. I'd be like, well, that wasn't really like that
>> And his wife is like right there or his like girlfriend's right there. >> Well, they gave it to Tyler Hayward. >> Did they give or did Sword take it? Because that's also the thing is like I think it's within like our whatever you
don't even know what sword is to the "Oh, we have to take this. It was made by Tony Stark originally. It's a part of government property." And then they're like, "Can we just stay peace?"
>> Well, if they sub then they'd seize Well, it was more Valentino that seized lot of Stark [ __ ] >> It's hard to know. I mean Tala was dusted and Shuri was dusted. So it would have been specifically Aoy who was
ruling Wakanda during this time and she must have which you know she did have dealings with the US government. >> That's true. Also I can see things just figure out everything else. I also forget that in this instant when uh
Thanos showed up to Wakanda immediately everyone was like oh they must have killed the other ones. So they were like they were fighting tooth and nail as sloppy as they could cuz they were like if they beat Strange in the other one, I
they know? They knew that Tony went out there. Yeah. Yeah. So it's like they >> They Yeah. They don't really know who the Guardians are until Rocket and Crew >> and Nebula. Yeah. Eventually. But it's they they're literally like they went
don't know where Thor is. >> Yeah. It's fun to think about when you seeing Thanos show up, he's thinking, "All right, Tony Stark and that kid from Queens as Spider-Man, they died." >> Yeah. Literally, it's I think the
traumatic part of all of this is played really well in Endgame, especially with like Wanda being gone. Just Wanda Wanda being gone, coming back, fighting a because I'm like, "Oh, yeah. I forget that Wanda has had to watch Vision die
like four times." Uh, but also killed her himself. killed him killed him herself and then had to watch Thanos come back [laughter] to life and do it again. SO, I'M LIKE, "OH, YEAH. I guess I would be mentally unwell. I would be
severely unstable with what I saw Thanos do to all my friends." >> You know, a pairing, correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think we ever see Steve any point. [snorts] >> No, not really.
they're obviously just on different fronts of this war. And then in Endgame, they're both fighting in that final battle, but really Strange has more of a connection with like with Tony Stark doing the whole one thing. So, at some
point during the funeral, I guess they talked, but do you think like how do you think that conversation went? >> I think Steve would abide by anything that Steve Rogers would abide by anything Steven
think Tony's first thing is the thing of math and be like, that's just mathematically not possible. But Steve being just the bronze is like, "No, I see your point." >> See, I think I think Steve and Tony
group chat, part of a trivia group together. Because really, Steve is or >> You're talking about Steven Strange. >> Steven Strange. Uh Tonyy's such a theoretical physics and what's possible out there in the multiverse the same way
Doctor Strange is. He was a medical scientist. I think like if you try to put Steve Rogers and Stephen Strange together, it'd be like, you know, a kind of like someone's buddy who who was a Marine who goes to the Magic Castle and
>> this is boring. [clears throat] Like I He's like, you're just hiding it in your sleeve, you piece of >> give Steve Rogers TONY STARK'S ATTITUDE. of like, I don't like magic. >> No, I don't think he would care. I
he'd be like, I never thought this was real. I thought this thing was fake. maybe he has a creative side. [laughter] >> Doodling in magic. >> I think he would do this every time the sling ring goes off. [laughter]
>> I think he'd be kind of freaked out. He'd be like I I served in World War II. [laughter] think he would think Red Skull like Red Skull and the weird magic >> Be okay with Wanda immediately. I think he could be fine with Strange and those
though. I think I don't think they'd be friends like Steve uh Steve and Strange and uh Tony would be though. There's no I don't think there's a fight about Um >> I think he'd be annoyed with how much
would bring up. Like he has this encyclopedic knowledge of everybody who Steve Rogers would be like, "I don't know any of this [ __ ] I know." Wong's listening to Beyonce and then Steve Rogers is like, "Here's my notes
[laughter] >> I think there you go. Wong is for uh is for Doctor or not doctor. Oh my god. Wong is for uh Captain America while
out together. Okay, that makes sense. That makes more sense. Anyways, but they that didn't interact. I always want to see like um not Yolena. I want to see time. Um and she doesn't really interact with Strange either.
put these two together." But I do think there was some sort of talk that was really good to their points to be like, "Oh, who uh emotionally would fit better as a team?" And I don't think it would have been a fun team up to watch
>> to watch Captain America and Natasha and Strange. That would have been kind of >> Yeah. Um Kevin Feige, again, I guess the Rooster Brothers call it Strange characters just kind of are most interesting to compliment each other.
been so boring to watch Spider-Man Strange and [laughter] been like, "Get these two away." >> Yeah, it just a different vibe. Um, so to kind of complete our recap here, uh, Thanos now has all six Infinity Stones.
He powers up, but thank god Thor is here with this god-killing weapon. And you the magic of all six infinity stones. The one mistake that Thor makes is similar to the mistake Peter Quill makes earlier. He doesn't Peter Quill just
kind of did go over the head with that punch. Now Thor doesn't go for the head. And man, Thanos's going, "You should have gone for the head." Such a great line. Uh, snaps everyone away or half of everyone I I should say, away. Uh, it is
brutal. We see half of all life dusting, including but not limited to Bucky Barnes dusts, Tala dusts, uh, Wanda Maximoff dusts, uh, several other Wakandons dust. Uh, on Titan, we see
Wakandons dust. Uh, on Titan, we see Mantis dusting. We see Drax dusting. We Peter Quill. Mr. Stark, I'm not feeling >> Oh, I meant to say, well, Peter Quill also dust, but Peter say Parker also
>> is he the only one that's like, "Ow, this hurts." telling him that it's coming. >> Oh, it's okay. So for him his spidey senses and for someone like Daredevil HE WENT WHERE IS everybody's [laughter]
>> it's or maybe he's kind of like oh god it's way more quiet I can sleep now. >> No he's definitely like this is a bad sign. This is an omen. Oh my god. Could time and then just all you hear is like a street light blink and a car crash
a street light blink and a car crash into another and no talking. I'd be like now. There's whales in the Hudson. Do you think he thought it was the it raptured? >> I bet there were a lot of people who
did. They're probably like, "Oh man, all that church going I did." >> I definitely bet Daredevil's immediia thought was rapture and I didn't get it. literally kills people. [laughter] >> Yeah. Um so yes, uh Steve Rogers
realizes we lost. Oh, we also forgot Groot dust away. His final I am Groot according to James Gunn is him telling Rocket daddy, which is so sad. Um, and then goes back to his farm. He sees the sunrise on a grateful universe. And we
cut to credits. And then there's a postredit scene, or maybe a mid-redit scene. Nick Fury and Maria Hill. We see some blip fiction here as both of them dust. Uh, and a helicopter crashes. People are panicked on the streets. But
right in the last second, Fury gets that old pager out and releases a distress call to Captain Marvel. uh she'll show up in the postredit scene of her movie that comes out the next year. All right, so we've talked a lot about just kind of
movie. Um but let's talk about specifically the Russo brothers as they're now looking at the factions of teams. Um for Infinity War, they had the Avengers that were kind of split up into
with the Guardians, they had to pair up basically Thor and his whole journey. Um, and then from the Guardians, you had the offshoot group of like the Thanos and his adopted daughters. Uh, and
>> Yeah. So, you kind of had to like balance all of these things. And you had like a separate group that the Russo brothers had. So, they really had like five or six groups that they were balancing. For Doomsday, you have the
the similar thing. You have the main Avengers, the OG Avengers, and you have the new Avengers, aka the Thunderbolts. So, you have two groups of Avengers that guess. the new new Avengers or well I guess the Avengers you're referring to
>> Yeah, Sam Wilson's Avengers with Scott Lang and with a Falcon. >> and the oneman that is supposed to be now a Black Widow or What do you mean
>> the other girl? The other girl uh that was in uh Brand New Not Brand New Day uh supposed to be the Jewish superhero for >> Oh, that's right. She's not in this absolutely she's a part of the group? >> She's not. No, they don't really care
>> It's so crazy if she's not Well, I don't think it's crazy. I don't need it. I truly do not need it. But like, she's one of the She's their She's their Black consider her She was a former Widow agent.
>> Yeah, but I think she's the new Avengers handtohand combat girl. That is Yolena's all. But >> they tried to edit her out of that >> But But they didn't. >> They didn't. And I don't think I think
again, no one's going to put on his team. They don't need uh they basic we their team. >> Captain Marvel. >> Yeah, she's their basic arguable leader. >> That'd be crazy if Captain Marvel is
Wouldn't that be her Thor? Their Thor would be Captain Marvel. their team, but she has cosmic powers that Thor doesn't have. Avengers are mimicking always like the same kind of tears that every Avengers
group has. I think the Thunderbolts do mimic a B version of our original Avengers. So Sam Wilson's would also kind of have to mimic our Avengers. And character? That's Brie Larson. Okay, that makes sense.
>> I don't think he's going to want to be like, I'm on the Avengers, right? >> Well, I think it's it'll be interesting to hear. I obviously Sam Wilson cares enough about the Avengers to file a trademark lawsuit, but like I think the
like checking the boxes list that they used to have. They just kind of have has the same kind of experience and the same power set? I think when Thor gets teams of Avengers fighting for him to be on, he's going to be like,
>> "No, I'm not on a team. I have a daughter. I'm here to just help fight." in. He's like, "I'm not of this time anymore." Like, I think that's just to siphon them off. But also, things aside, they do they're the the Let's go back to
the Thunderbolts. They have the New Avengers. They have the Fantastic Four. >> I don't think they're including any of the kids except for um Ant-Man and his it. >> But we don't have anything about America
>> No, but Zoi Gomez will be on the red carpet for this. She goes to every >> Yeah. I don't think Riri's in it. >> No. K Bishop, but Hawkeye is. >> Jeremy Render's not in it. >> No, Jeremy Rener just said in an
me less money. >> Okay. I didn't know. Well, that's the TV >> I don't think he's going to be there. But um but yes, the you also have the Wakandans and you have the teleal. um another important division. Uh and
similar number of groups that the Russo brothers are balancing. We're talking about like five to six groups. >> I think it's easier uh and this might be actually not true at all. I think it's easier to create a a team with what you
people because they we haven't spent everybody else from the other like Spider-Man and Strange and the them that it was like oh this actually does need to work well like it needs to
work well. I think we haven't seen enough of the Fantastic Four. So, think there's a lot of like only up from here for them. I don't think it's gonna be I'm not gonna be irritated if they put like Sue with like a bunch of boring
we don't really >> they're not like they're the Fantastic about Thunderbolts, too. Even though we spent time with individually a lot of tier to their own movies. So, I'm like, "Oh, yeah. Wherever we put them, nowhere
>> You know, it's interesting with Infinity War. Uh, it seemed like the Russo brothers and the Marcus and Mcily, their task was even harder because they had to figure out a way to have an object that all these characters were defending.
or in the possession of an infinity stone. And so it kind of created these six almost like mcguffins, these talismans that like you had to structure the whole movie's geography and plot around. With Avengers Doomsday, they
we're just really talking about three different homes. Imagine three houses that are like caught up in this flood and they're about to smash into each all these people is kind of more existential. It's more just like you
have to defend your home. You have to defend your entire right to exist. Um and you cooperate with the people whose house you're about to smash into. Um or do you kind of play the pirate game of game theory and just like, okay, we can
let this one go, right? And you and I work together. It's like the final four of any survivor season or the final five before you get to having to make fire. Um, you kind of have some interesting factions forming and you have like uh
breaking ranks within the factions. And >> I do think there's going to be a time get together. They're already under the clock and there's not going to be enough time for them to come up with a decision in the allocated time they have. So
be like, "Hey, I I have to think about my planet. I have to think about my can't see I can't have what happened to me what happened to that X-Men one. Yeah. So I think that's what's gonna ultimately be like the big the biggest
like hurdle for them is like if we can't do this in enough time, first or their reality going first, >> right? Do we do we punt basically? Do we sacrifice place so that we can live to fight another day?
right now, the Talon Neil and the Wakandans are not going to have a good everybody regardless. [laughter] Like our endgame is not really to help And they're going to be like, "So, we should get rid of your reality. Your
HOW ARE YOU going to help? >> The um uh the thing that the Russo at Cineacon and every other time, they keep comparing Dr. Doom to Thanos. They really want the average Mar or the average filmgo who maybe didn't come to
Thor 4 or Captain America 4 or Ant-Man 3. um they know that these Infinity War crowd and Doomsday crowd or and Endgame crowd will have a chance at coming back up Thanos as like that was the last true big bad, but they say Dr. Doom is worse
and they use terms like well he's, you know, he's a ruler, he's a technologist, he's a magician, you know, he can practice magic. And so they're trying to fearsome villain. I it's interesting to look at how Thanos was someone that like
suddenly all of these Marvel heroes had to face and none of them had a backstory or relationship with him other than Gamora and I guess now Thanos or Thor and in Nebula. Um and Thor only had the backstory just from the prologue of the
be like who is this guy? Uh and he wants these rocks that are everywhere. Okay, with with Doomsday, the Russo brothers also kind of set themselves up by actually did have a backstory with some of these characters, at least with the
Fantastic 4 and with Reed Richards, you know. U I I think the X-Men might be like, who is this guy?" But um but it seems like the fact that Doom has such an obsession it sounds like with Steve Rogers, then we can kind of do uh we can
find this character's route into the conflict a little bit better because he all these people rather than just something that they have. >> Yeah, 100%. >> Yeah. So, I think like when people talk
about the task of Avengers and Doomsday is going to be way harder than Infinity task for the Russo brothers. Even though they were coming off of the heat of the building blocks were still very incomplete when their task came about
for developing the story structure for Infinity War. Whereas like Doomsday, story of one big bad who had a relationship with some of these characters and wants to basically take their homes and merge their homes
together for a a better home for himself and his progyny. that too as the Russos because they're like, "We're jumping on this movie, but whatever." Like they're like after Infinity or phase four. Yeah, after
Infinity War and Endgame, they were like, "Okay, see you." Uh, and now that going to make a movie that only ties to what we have, >> No one needs to watch the Wakanda Forever, Multiverse of Madness, any of
Brothers, that's my number one question is how many of these Marvel Disney Plus shows did you watch? My assumption is that they're aware of all of them and maybe they did watch all of them, but
like did you really watch every episode of Ekko? Joe Russo, what happens in Ekko >> He probably doesn't remember it. is going to be like, "What's Ekko?" >> He's going to know what Ekko is. But like Joe Russo, did you watch all of
What If season 3, Joe Russo? I don't think they did. Anthony did though. I bet Anthony did. Joe's just like Joe's like, "I don't need to." >> Marvel doesn't even hide it. Yeah, Marvel doesn't hide it themselves that
the Marvel television and Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, it doesn't really matter. I I guess like I bet when they talk boy locker room talk they're shows because what are you gonna do about it like we're not going to bring
watch the shows. >> I think it's not going to matter to Doomsday ultimately if the characters not in it if parts of their story don't really fine. I'm just curious. I'm like curious like do you think they at least
they watch >> I think they probably watched and that's a lot of things that they didn't have to. I'm sure someone at Marvel told them exactly which ones they should watch and Ekko was not on that list.
can understand even if I really like these like I loved Wonderman isn't even necessary for them to watch. >> It isn't. But I think they watched it it and it's nominated for an Emmy. Yeah. >> Um I think that naturally they're still
going to be on streaming uh the Russos. They did the movie for Netflix. So I they will watch any Marvel movie that's nominated for an award. >> Okay. I think the um but if their character if they are so a character
like uh Yolena Bova if they have this character in the movie and Thunderbolts they need to have at least watched Hawkeye need to watch Hawkeye to understand Yolena anymore.
>> because and I think that does and that part plays to what they need to talk sister a little bit and to the degree that Hawkeye was just her trying to get revenge. She's not doing that anymore. >> I bet they did watch Hawkeye.
battle is just family and just being like, I don't know who I am still after as you know that tone, you don't need to watch any of Hawkeye. watch any of Hawkeye. >> Um, for um uh John Walker,
watch the Falcon and the Winter Soldier. You could if you want, but do you really to his horrible behavior in Thunderbolts. So, do you really want to lot and I think they're doing this strategically. I don't think you need to
put a lot of time into characters that don't have like a big oomph, if that to put a lot of time into Ghost because why? And I don't think they're going to put a lot of time into US Agent because why? Um, even US Agent was known for the
your wife because you're a horrible man?" Like, why give him more of a like are working with the Telekal? >> They have a task. And I think to understand the humor of the character, it helps to watch. I honestly think I
division and the Falcon, the Winter Soldier, cuz those were new and that they had um and they were characters that they had directed before. So, I aware of what was happening in Wanda Vision just because like, you know, so
Vision just because like, you know, so much of the lore of Vision and Wanda was super relevant to Endgame and Infinity War. Similar with the Falcon, the Winter kind of first put Bucky and Sam together in that back seat in Civil War. So, I
think they introduced Anthony Mackey to the MCU in in Winter Soldier. So, I Certainly though, Loki is the most important one for them to have watched. naturally. Yeah, I think they probably just watched I mean that was eventful in
>> and also that was where the phase was Dynasty. So it's like yeah I'm watching this because that ultimately is going to >> I mean it's quantum quantum is the question like did you guys watch I think
good movie. [laughter] >> I guarantee they watched it and was like >> They would probably they were probably confused at a lot of parts. Uh cuz I part about Marvel is I'm like, "Yeah, they do rely on James Gun a lot to do a
lot of the like deep space shit." I love that James Gun was the one that did a how fast they're going through space and making portals and all these other things." Um here's the here's the uh here's the stones, here's Nebula, here's
Gamora, here's all these things. Uh we have and then we have [laughter] we have the Russos that are like I don't want to touch this. Like that is too much. That's too dense. We like how like the grounded
this ground like I think there's a reason why they love touching on Bucky and Steve Rogers a lot. It's very conflicted sad old white men. Yeah. to this really well. >> I think um we've talked about it in
brothers don't really seem to have a great handle on Hulk. Um but I think Spider-Man Brand New Day, so I'm not too worried about it. the sandbox. What the [ __ ] information are you giving me on Hulk? What can what
I can create something for Hulk that doesn't uh immediately take over >> I think the Hulk is just exists at such the extreme and I think the Rooster brothers like characters that can kind of hover in the salty and and I think
Ruffalo and I think they really love the character of Bruce Banner >> but you're working with like 21 characters. you're working with 21 don't think there's genuinely a story line you can give Hulk that also shares
the screen with 21 characters evenly. >> Yeah. And I think I think any line both that you give Bruce Banner basically in these movies they could also give to uh these movies they could also give to uh to Roadie to Wong and to uh Paul R.
about dealing with a bunch of characters that you didn't create is uh that was Taskmaster so quick. They were like all of Taskmaster's jokes were also applied to um >> um Century and then like we had two
people that didn't know what was going on constantly. So they would have to characters and it was like it's just the same character we have to get rid of that the Russos are like these are the characters we're working with cuz they
can all stand away from each other but the ones that are too close you got to >> But you know what the Russo brothers are the best in the sandbox at the MCU right? I think so too. and they're best at the Strange Alchemy. Uh I mean, James
Gun's okay at it. Uh Jos Sweden was pretty good at it in the earlier phase, all of these pieces and make like a seamless, well structured story, not just a successful film, but like just like were able to manage it. And that is
an underappreciated aspect of directing is I I was watching an interview referenced this recently where it's like yes when we think of directors we think of like the ceil approach of like the mison sen and h having like just the
perfect shot you know but like a good director the other 50% of your job is just staff management department heads making sure that like you can have a hundred people who all row in sync and Christopher Nolan can do that and I
they're best at I think is just scale and staff management and making sure they can manage all these egos And I think um that really shows when I when I revisit Infinity War and Endgame, I really feel much more confidence going
into Doomsday because like as much as we feel like this is just reheating old >> nachos >> success, old nachos, right? Um they are able to get so much more uh unique synthesis out of uh and synergy out of
never really thought of before. coming up with great surprises, great strange alchemy, and just based off of the little things we've seen of Doomsday so far. Hopefully later today, bigger news about Doomsday that we all have a clear
They're the best at that. And I think Doomsday can deliver. >> Yeah, 100%. >> Um, I think this story of how Doomsday or how Infinity War was made, we kind of know how it was made at this point. It
get straight to the box office challenge. Okay, so Avengers Infinity War had a record-breaking uh opening weekend domestic. It made a [ __ ] ton of money. It made $257 million opening weekend.
opening weekend. We've never seen anything like that. Great. Number two. So this is April 27th, 2018. So April 2018, think about where you were in your 2018, think about where you were in your life. Number two at the box office was a
uh I believe the second or third weekend of the first of a of an original horror of the first of a of an original horror series. Horror sci-fi series directed >> the same actor >> directed and starring.
directing it. >> And he directed it. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> I had to have seen this. you've broken down the sequel for New Rock Stars
>> or or its prequel maybe. >> You got to give this to me now. >> It was directed by someone who would be playing Reed Richards in a future Marvel movie after this. >> Oh. Oh. Oh, duh. It is A Quiet Place. It
did come out 2018. When you said scary, I was thinking like Insidious Conjuring. I should have been like post-apocalyptic or something. I don't know. I I movie is not scary. IT'S MORE LIKE, "OH, GET OUT OF THERE, PLEASE. [laughter] YOUR KILL
>> So never just don't have the baby. >> I DON'T HAVE THE BABY. WHY WOULD YOU BATTERIES? WHY WOULD YOU GIVE IT BATTERIES? WHY WOULD YOU GIVE IT >> Yeah. What? Yeah, be by the waterfall. It's loud [laughter] there. [gasps]
>> Um, so that made $11 million in its uh second or third week. Did very well. Um, this third movie, I don't know anything about it just based off of the title alone. It's >> 2018. Uhhuh. Is it a Tyler Perry movie?
>> I'll let you know in a second. Um, this was a female comedian who had had another movie that came out a couple years >> 2018. >> Yeah. Uh,
>> Yes. I won't tell you the name of the female comedian, but also in it is Bizzy Phillips Bryant. >> Scoville. Bizzy Phillips. Busy Phillips. Rory Scoville.
>> It's a comedy, but the lead actress was in Train Wreck. Feel Pretty. >> I don't know. I don't know that movie. Did pretty well. >> I don't know that movie.
>> Um the number four movie at the domestic box office was um >> Okay. >> Uh based off of like an arcade game,
>> Correct. Rampage. Number seven, a lot of people are looking at The Rock's box office performance since like the I love the the Fast and Furious movies and a lot of huge hits. >> Well, that's not fair because Fast and
Furious is major. Um, but I do think I think he I think he also does really think he I think he also does really well in his own like I don't know. I to lot of money. I feel like for a normal person, this is good enough, but for
him, he's like, "No, I was a wrestler once." Um, the number five movie. I'm surprised that this was in the top five, but it is another movie that people because Infinity War was also in box office was also
>> This was underneath Well, Black Panther came out in February. April. >> Yes. Correct. And and Black Panther came out in February and we're now at the end of April and it still was top five made
$4.7 million. And and that just shows forget that Black Panther was another billion dollar movie that year. Um, so it's kind of fun that you could go to the movies at that weekend and see
Panther if you want and a lot of people did. Um, at least hundreds of thousands >> I I think I saw Black Panther twice. >> Okay, so let's talk about worldwide. Worldwide uh box office for the full year of 2018, huge year. Uh, and I think
was number one. Yeah, >> it made two over $2 billion. It's still >> Okay. >> Um, did very very well. Number two at >> I tried. >> But it is one of these other movies
Panther. >> Black Panther was number two. Oh, it made over a bill, you said. Yeah, >> it did. It made $1.3 billion. >> How much did uh Infinity War make >> $2.0 billion that I mean just huge year
>> Marvel said we we're coasting. I mean, they also had another movie come out the top five. No, it's not. >> Is it Sony? Is it Spider-Man? Came out July. >> Oh my god. 2018. Big year.
>> Three movies that all did pretty well. Yeah. Number three at the worldwide box office was uh a Universal Universal uh release. It was the second Universal uh release. It was the second of like kind of the sequel trilogy.
>> 2018 Universal. >> In this, I'm going to give you a hint. In this movie, we find out a little girl in it is the clone of dinosaur. >> [ __ ] a. >> Not great. Not horrible, though.
"Yeah, we're in 2018. We just did this one." Yeah, it's Fallen Kingdom. >> Did very well. It came in just behind Black Panther at $1.31 billion. >> Let me tell you, you might not like those movies, but I don't know. They're
but yeah. >> Oh, I mind those movies. I I actually I mind Falling Kingdom and I mind the new one, Rebirth. >> Oh, yeah. Um, all right. So, number four was another Disney release, but this is
a Disney animated release. It's considered the highest grossing or one >> in 2018. >> 2018. >> 2018. And this is the first one. >> It's the second one. It's a sequel.
>> Uhuh. >> Um, the sequel. And it's the best thing that came out of Disney. >> Um, I mean, it's a different animation >> Oh, it's Pixar. It is. >> Oh. Oh, okay. Oh, what was Pixar's
sequel in 2018? >> In 2018. In 2018. >> Oh, it was the Incredibles 2. [laughter] >> I You literally had me thinking for so everything but Incredibles. I was like,
but all their originals came out in like the 2000s." And I completely forgot. It was like 12 years. Damn it. Yeah. >> $1.2 billion. >> Yeah, it [laughter] was great. I mean, Disney had a huge freaking year.
>> Oh, damn it. Yeah, it was The Incredibles, too. Good year. I was in >> Mhm. Mhm. And then number five is the one that we often forget, but it is the highest grossing DC EU movie that came out in December of 2018.
>> December of 2018. Um, and it made over a bill. Um, and it made over a bill. >> Yes. Uh there is a scene where William Defoe is on a beach with a young actor whose performance is kind of made fun
>> Wait a minute. >> My my my father. out >> live action DC EU. >> Oh, why do I say Spider-Man as Super William Defoe on the beach in a DCU
>> they're they're climbing in. They're jumping. What is this? You have to dive >> Oh, god damn it. It is Aquaman. I KEEP FORGETTING. WHY DO I keep forgetting Incredibles 2 and Aquaman. Yeah. And I saw all these movies in
>> You I forgot William Defoe. >> William [laughter] Defo. A lot of people >> There's too many people in that damn movie. Yay. Ya's in movies. Too many. I hate that Nicole Kidman's in his movies. Like it's too much.
>> Uh so 1.1.2 billion dollars did very well for for DC Peter Saffron has the job that he has there right now. Um, all right. So, those were the movies of 2018. I think we we covered a lot on how Avengers
Infinity War will be kind of predictive for Avengers Doomsday. I think really it should restore our confidence that the Russo brothers can handle movies of this miracles by just the right combinations of characters and the right conflict and
