## Summary

The speaker recounts the early days of his YouTube career, starting in a warehouse, and shares the pivotal lesson that transformed his channel: the key to engaging an audience is storytelling. Through a conversation about a lacrosse trade and a deep-dive documentary on player Paul Rabil, he learned that the gap between people caring and not caring is the story you tell.

### Key Points

- **Humble Beginnings** [00:02] — The speaker and his partner Sameer started their YouTube channel in a warehouse owned by Sameer's father, clearing boxes to set up their first office.
- **Skepticism About a Trade** [00:14] — The speaker dismissed covering a major lacrosse trade because no one was tweeting about it, assuming people didn't care.
- **The Pivot to Storytelling** [00:28] — His partner challenged him: 'We have to make people care.' This flipped a switch, leading him to spend a month living with Paul Rabil to document his life.
- **Deep Personal Story** [00:41] — The project evolved from a trade story to a deeply personal narrative about a man willing to go to incredible lengths to win, becoming one of the channel's most successful series.
- **Opportunity in Disinterest** [01:09] — The speaker concludes that the gap between people caring and not caring is the story you tell. Feeling that no one cares is actually a sign of opportunity.

### Conclusion

The video's core takeaway is that storytellers bridge the gap between audience indifference and engagement. When you feel no one cares, that's precisely the opportunity to craft a compelling narrative.

## Transcript

This building behind me is where Sameer and I spent the majority of our 20s. Sameer's dad is in the fashion business and this is one of his warehouses and he moved a bunch of boxes aside and agreed to let us use it as our first office.
[music] that we tell a story about a major trade that happened in pro lacrosse. And I looked at him and I said, "People aren't >> [music] >> tweets about it and there's some
about this trade. So, we shouldn't be talking about it. No one cares." And he >> [music] >> to make people care." And that flipped a switch in me and I hit the road and I spent a month living with Paul Rabil
documenting his life and it went from a story about a trade to a [music] deeply personal story about a guy who would go to incredible lengths to win. And that series ended up becoming one of our most successful on the channel and truly set
storytellers. [music] And so, the gap between people caring and not caring is the story that you tell. So, if you're thinking about you're discouraged thinking no one cares, then you're actually [music] onto
something. That's where you want to be because that's where all the opportunity because that's where all the opportunity is.
