# How to Avoid Stop-Loss Hunts When Trading Trendlines

> Source: [How to Avoid Stop-Loss Hunts When Trading Trendlines](https://youtube.com/watch?v=xol4pgMZIEk)

## Summary

The video challenges the conventional trading practice of entering long positions at trendline pullbacks, arguing that this approach often leads to stop-losses being triggered by market manipulation before the trend resumes. It presents three real-world examples where traders are stopped out by sharp moves, only for the market to continue in the original direction. The solution proposed is to split the position into multiple entry points, placing additional orders within the stop-loss zone to average into the trade.

### Key Points

- **Flawed Trendline Entry** [00:00] — Traders are typically taught to enter on a pullback to the trendline in an uptrend, but this often results in being stopped out by a sharp move before the market continues upward.
- **Example 1: 10% Stop Hunt** [00:16] — Price approaches the trendline, triggers a 10% manipulation that stops out all traders, then makes a 40% impulse move.
- **Example 2: 20% Whipsaw** [00:31] — In an uptrend, traders go long from the trendline, but a 20% 'snot' (whipsaw) takes them out, after which the uptrend resumes.
- **Example 3: 50% Rally After Dump** [00:44] — An obvious trend, but the market quickly dumps to liquidate all longs, instantly buys the dip, and rallies 50%.
- **Solution: Scale-In Strategy** [00:44] — Avoid this by splitting the position into multiple entry points: buy slightly off the trendline and place 2-3 additional orders within the stop-loss zone to average in.

### Conclusion

The key takeaway is to avoid single-point entries at trendlines; instead, scale into positions with multiple orders to survive manipulation and capture more profit.
